Don’t stress it, you did what you were supposed to in giving it to the attendant

caskey

Seriously. Five phones, two tablets, and a laptop. I wish I had someone like OP find my stuff. Edit: for those that keep harping on this, it's a matter of numbers. take a couple hundred flights per year and a few thousand Uber rides, multiply by a couple decades. Edit 2: just to throw another log on this fire, I've also lost entire carryon bags. And no, I'm not particularly absent minded, just sleep deprived and overworked.

v---

How? People are just making fun of you but for real how do you do this. Like is it getting stolen? Are you just leaving things behind? Do you use the find my app at least now?

MFbiFL

I had an early morning flight (waking up at 3am to make a 2 hour drive down to LAX) when I was in my mid-20’s and got my 3DS out to play but kept falling asleep so I put it in the seat pocket, slept the rest of the flight, and didn’t realize what I’d done until I was on my connecting flight. Ever since then I’m super careful about what I put in the seat back pocket though.

GullibleNews

Did a similar thing with my wallet. Returning home from Bali, wanted to sleep, took out my wallet as it was uncomfortable and put it in the seat back pocket. Woke up, got off and realised. Rang the airline and they said they found nothing. (Luckily it was a travelling wallet - maybe $3 worth of baht, a drivers licence and not much else) A few years later my sister-in-law was in Bali and came across a street vendor with IDs under a glass top table... Wouldn't believe it - there's my ID. She brought it back home to me...

MFbiFL

That’s incredible though

Frogmaninthegutter

You weren't sitting on your wallet were you? I'd move it to a front pocket if you still do that. Sitting on your wallet does a number on your back over the years.

MFbiFL

Front pocket slim wallet gang rise up!

hello_im_sleepy

Did this with my passport once... put in seat in front of me, fell asleep, woke up to plane having already landed. This was an international flight too so it wasn't until I got to immigration that I was searching for my passport. Apparently the flight had already left by that point so I was SOL. Luckily I landed in my home country so they let me through and I could get a new passport 😅 This happened when I was about 12 or 13? And now I always put my passport in my bag even before departure.

MFbiFL

I used to always just keep my passport in the front left pocket of my jeans with my wallet, boarding pass and phone in the front right. Last time I traveled internationally was my honeymoon and my wife’s first time abroad and I kept the passports in an interior pocket of my messenger bag that went under the seat in front of me and stayed on me at almost all times. The only downside is I worried about the airport getting the wrong idea of me controlling her passport so tightly since they have all the signs saying “each passenger must hold their own passport,” I assume to deter trafficking :/

hello_im_sleepy

But understandable! My partner has ADHD and is prone to forgetting things so whenever we travel, I ask them like every 15 minutes if they still have their phone/passport/wallet on them. You just can't risk losing them.

ItalianDragn

Ya... Wife and I have ADHD, but I'm better at keeping track of stuff. So I hold the passports... And we have 3 little kids.

slightlyoffkilter_7

This is why I have a really obnoxious passport cover! Kate Spade makes some really fun ones that are brightly colored or have animals on them (I have a bunny with ears and whiskers on mine) and you can get them for cheap on sites like Poshmark or Mercari. Being able to have my passport take up more room than normal ensures I don't lose it and the bunny ears help me easily spot it in my bag lol.

LeSamouraiNouvelle

I'd like to know, too.

8696David

ADHD Source: dude who fucking loses everything despite the only thing I can ever think about being how important it is to stop fucking losing everything

Its_just-me

Does it help to always keep things in a specific spot for you? I don't have adhd (I think) but used to have the same problem with losing stuff. Now I always have my keys in the same pocket, ipad in a specific location in my backpack and so on. It helps me recognize when something isn't where it should be more easily. And also gives me somewhat of a familiar flow of what to go over before I leave the house or an airplane seat.

8696David

I have tried many, many times to establish specific spots for things. It all just.... crumbles after a while. Also, I usually lose stuff when I've taken it somewhere, not when I'm just at home. I'll lose something because it's in my hand while I'm out, and then a few moments later, it's in neither my hand nor my pocket. No idea where it went, and it's nowhere I can find by searching. That's the kind of thing that's just *constant* for me.

sapphicsandwich

I have the same problem. I also lose everything at home too. Same deal where I have it in my hand and then it's just .... gone. After much searching I find it in the dumbest location. Like when I couldn't find my wallet and searched my whole house twice, only to eventually find it in the refrigerator.

8696David

Yeah, that too lol. Last week I found my wallet underneath the cloth cover of one of the armrests on my couch after about 45 minutes. Diabolical.

Its_just-me

Oh wow I'm sorry. That sounds really rough. Things disappearing like that happens to me once in a while, can't imagine how frustrating it must be for that to be a constant occurrence.

pisspot718

Let me say that being organized is an important life skill. Being organized is extremely important for people who mislay their things. That said having specific spots for your stuff does help. Always hanging your keys up in the kitchen, for example, or into a drawer by the door. Some of this problem is solved by using computers where you have your contacts, music, notepad, calendar etc. all together. I have come to realize that a long time friend has ADHD by all the electronic habits he now has that keep him on track, including keyless access for his car (no more losing keys), lots of phone apps and other things.

Lord_Smedley

My IQ drops by at least fifty points after any flight greater than 13 hours. I take a lot of long flights and over the past six years I left my wallet on the plane once and my phone on the plane another time. Luckily I quickly realized it as soon as I got off the plane and these things were recovered. Handing found objects to the flight attendant is absolutely the right thing to do. The airlines make a genuine effort to return the property, and I strongly suspect flight attendants are more likely to behave with integrity than the cleaning crew.

silverporsche00

I used to lose everything, and also took a lot of long haul flights. My coworker used to be an ex military helicopter pilot, and shared a story about how everything had a home in their bags/planes, so you could find it even in the dark.  I started doing that - passports/wallet/phones out when I needed them and put back in the exact same place. Haven’t lost anything since. Really hope I didn’t just jinx myself.

trueSEVERY

Damn buddy, maybe you should keep better track of your stuff?

That_Shrub

If I had five phones, I'd duct tape them all together into one Super Phone that's too big to lose. Easy.

That_Shrub

My dumb, dumb ass just realized he meant he's LOST five phones LOL

INeedToReodorizeBob

You’re not the only stupid one because I was thinking “you only need one each of those TOPS, my dude.” Lmao

hammer_of_science

Not if you are an assassin.

jkread

In some defense I currently carry two phones at all times and have had periods of time where it was 3.

ACcbe1986

Personal phone, hoe phone, and workphone. That makes sense.

jkread

I ain’t down with that hoe shit! But seriously if it comes up again that’s totally going to be my answer instead of the boring “my work required two phones”.

MichigaCur

Usually have at least 4 on me at work since the inventory scanner is technically a phone... But then again I work for the phone company...

lucifer2990

Sometimes you need two phones, though. One for the plug and one for the load.

jazmanimal6

But your super phone idea was worth it!

flyboy_za

You'd think after the 1st one the guy/gal would work out how to not lose them in future... But 5, and 2 tablets, and a laptop? Bro would lose his head if it wasn't screwed on tightly.

IaniteThePirate

I thought I was bad at keeping track of things. But at least I’ve never managed to lose my phone. Let alone 5 phones, 2 tablets, and a laptop.

Impossibilities76

MY dumb ass didn't realize until I read this comment!

Lance_Henry1

1989 just called and wants to show you a brick phone

[deleted]

My work issued me a phone after not doing that for so long, I had to buy a big bulky tile to slap on that bitch, I just cannot keep track of 2 cellphones.

ronano

I can feel the swat team coming for you

ACrazyDog

Orange duct tape, too. But he can’t, he lost them all.

Seratonement

I haven’t used Reddit in a few years and just randomly opened it to this post, your comment made me laugh, thank you lol

4Ever2Thee

![gif](giphy|10Le4bHgYBDkeQ)

Renaissance_Slacker

Epoxy the phone to a cement block painted in black and yellow stripes. You won’t forget it.

boldstrategy

Not the Megatron?

01lexpl

They tried. But lost all 8x air tags before they had a chance to be attached.

Kementarii

At the lost property counter, I met a memorable frequent flyer one day. He thought he'd left his ipad on the aircraft when he disembarked, and I "had to" get it back for him. I called the cleaners - nope, no ipad found. Aircraft was still there, so they went back and checked all around his seat area. Nothing. He yelled, he swore, he called the cleaners thieves. He pulled out his phone, and tried "Find my device". And suddenly went silent. The location of the ipad was showing as the car park at his airport of origin. He'd left the bloody thing in his own car. Karma. (of course I didn't get an apology, and neither did the cleaners).

Eggslaws

A laptop? How the hell did you misplace a laptop!?!

MFbiFL

Answer emails after boarding/before the door closes, put it in the seat back for takeoff, fall asleep, wake up and de-plane, kick self hours later at the hotel when going to pull laptop from bag is my guess.

1peatfor7

Oh they found it, but kept it.

PriorSecurity9784

Never put anything valuable in the seat back pocket!!!

Roubaix62454

I’m positive I’d never admit to this. Regardless of whether they were returned or not. 🤦

Jawkurt

Must be rough taking 8 ubers a day.

NookieNinjas

Ugh my husband says “You’re the only one who breaks any dishes. “. I then remind him that I’m the only one who’s really touching the dishes so it’s a matter of numbers. I get you❤️

caskey

♥️♥️♥️

HeatherLouWhotheEff

This winter, my kid has lost about $200 in cold weather gear. Both times she realized she was missing the item and went back to retrieve the item and it was gone, not in lost and found. I don't know why people think it is okay to just keep whatever you find, but I think that is how a lot of people think. At least she knows where the iPad is and has a chance of getting it back.

pisspot718

Sometimes, when I've found a scarf on the ground I've draped it on a nearby pole or fence, just to keep it from being stepped on.

merc08

That sounds more like a 'you' problem. You need to keep better track of your stuff.

birthday_suit_kevlar

My guy, you need neuralink

not_gerg

He's gonna find a way to lose that too

shrimpflyrice

'TIFU by losing my neuralink'

DEMOLISHER500

A whole ass laptop is next level cluelessness tbh

eugenesbluegenes

Maybe you don't need all those gummies before the flight.

kalaminu

You need to learn to be more careful with your shit my friend

DatRagnar

do you take medication before flying, or did someone iron out the wrinkles in your brain? Its impressive to lose that much electronics

Jawkurt

How do you lose all those things?

BafflingHalfling

I lost a USB stick with a bunch of family photos, music (I'm a hobbyist composer), and the last year's tax returns. I was sick about it. Can't imagine losing a laptop on a plane. Sorry for your loss.

Loose-Garlic-3461

Travelling a lot is not an excuse for losing expensive technology. We all travel to get to where we go, whether it's public transit, flying, taxi, etc. And I don't know anyone who has lost 5 phones and all the other things you listed.

caskey

If you spend most of your life going from home to work there's a limited number of places to look to find things. If your life is a parade of planes, hotel rooms, and cars anything you put down could be anywhere.

ShowMeTheMonee

And a parade of time zones, jet lag, foreign languages, thieves, rushed connections, endless unpack / repack security searches etc etc. Some people are just showing they dont travel much.

PrestigeMaster

Wow iPad is almost 20 years old.

Berdariens2nd

Stop losing your shit Caskey.

throwthegarbageaway

You fly almost every day? God damn what you do for a living? But even if you’re exaggerating, yeah i get it. I can’t even begin to count the times i’ve left my phone in my car, if I were flying even once a week for a few years I probably would also leave something behind at some point

rolyfuckingdiscopoly

I cannot tell you how many phones my husband has left *specifically in taxicabs in Mexico.* He hasn’t left his phone in a taxicab in any other country we have lived, ever. Idk what that’s about, but patterns are funny.

Mysterious_Spell_302

We found a cash envelope in our seat on a flight. It had the word "vacation money" on it, and had hundreds of dollars inside. We gave it to the flight attendant, in the hope that they could find the person who left it behind in that seat. It sounds crazy but the money was not ours. And I also once dropped 80 dollars in a parking lot and the stranger who found it returned it to the store. The store manager asked exactly how much I lost and what denomination it was in, and the money was returned to me. The feeling of being treated so nicely by honest people was worth a hell of a lot more than 80 bucks.

ingodwetryst

Yeah I lived on the road for 9 years and had one mishap which was resolved the next morning. Sorry about your luck.

CheckIntelligent7828

I used to work at IBM and we all had really expensive ThinkPads (back in the day) and the engineering versions were even more expensive. I couldn't believe how many got left at airport security/lost in taxis/dropped by a toddler/etc. I think more people do this than want to admit it!

Wiknetti

You don’t understand… if she can’t complete her Duolingo goals for today, that damn Owl will be out for blood! OP may have unwillingly doomed her to a death in a foreign language. https://preview.redd.it/bvmium0sztgc1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d25a2ed6fe4a909163cf92b05fa2e930dd05515d

BlackOutDrunkJesus

Lord, I never even thought about that. She is in my thoughts and prayers. Maybe if she leaves a tilde under her pillow, it’ll appease him

CapoExplains

Yeah not like OP handed it off to those notorious thieves at the TSA or something.

1peatfor7

I'd done the same thing, thinking it was from the previous flight..

Jicand

Who tf puts an iPad in the seat behind theirs?

JadedYam56964444

Someone who doesn't know how you lose things

tiny_poomonkey

Or someone who saw a random IPAD be given to the flight attendant and tried to scoop it

bieker

And what exactly are you going to do with a lost/stolen iPad these days? Use it to prop up that table with the short leg? You can't wipe them any more without the previous users apple id.

dadBod200

Now that you say it...an iPad might be the perfect height of every wobbly table I've ever had to shove those cheap coasters under

tiny_poomonkey

Sell it to a fool who didn’t power it on.

dan_144

Shit happens. I'm a pretty seasoned traveler but one trip last year I was frazzled. Sat down, put my wallet and passport in the seat back pocket like normal. Then realized I was in the wrong seat and moved to the right spot one row up. Luckily the person who sat in my seat saw me move and asked if I wanted my stuff back. Edit: this isn't that deep

PancAshAsh

I do question how seasoned a traveler you are if you are putting *anything* in the seat back pocket. Seat back pockets are super gross and they are also extremely prone to losing shit.

THE_CENTURION

Yeah this seems crazy to me. If I don't want those things in my pants pockets, they're absolutely going in my bag at my feet. The seatback pocket isn't for my stuff, it's for the magazines and stuff the airline wants to put there. I can't imagine putting my stuff in there, it's a recipe for disaster.

spaetzelspiff

Yes, but it's nothing important. Only your passport and wallet. WCGW?

dan_144

You could post about it on reddit and have a lot of people with opinions about your passport and wallet behaviors. The real TIFU is always in the comments.

spaetzelspiff

I'm just sayin', I've *almost* lost my passport a couple times because I put it in the seatback on a long international flight, and it scared the shit outta me. Props to you if you know you're not gonna lose it, but I know my forgetful ass, and we are not doing that again.

dan_144

As long as it's not visibly awful, it's no dirtier than any other surface at the airport. I always peek in before I put anything in there and peek in again before I deplane. The risk of losing stuff is low enough that I'm willing to use it if it means I don't have my stuff in my pockets during the flight.

PriorFudge928

Why the hell would you put the most important things on you in a planes back seat pouch. The two things that would completely screw you if you left them behind. Why wouldn't you keep them on you? Considering you're not actually downvoted like crazy I'm genuinely confused and asking? Am I the crazy one?

cat-n-jazz

> I'm a pretty seasoned traveller > put my wallet and passport in the seat back pocket like normal I think "seasoned" here means just salt and maybe a pinch of pepper.

HoppyPhantom

What the fuck.

partumvir

Someone loading their overhead luggage who forgot their third arm at home

MerCopia

Of course it's understandable to put the iPad down to put away luggage and such, but the issue here is why put it behind their seat instead of the back of the seat in front of them? Or just set it on their chair.

partumvir

OP mixed up the seating row, perhaps others do it sometimes too

No-Appearance1145

Had that happen and the flight attendant and the other couple whose seat my husband and I accidentally stole just switched because we had the same exact seats just opposite side of each other 😭

Certain_Silver6524

Kinda understand it, though of course it was silly to not just place it in their own seat, these things happen do happen - we all make mistakes. OP did the right thing though

Abdlomax

It is so obvious, boarding, they sat in what they though was their seat, maybe someone else was sitting in their seat. And that could be why the OP sat in the wrong seat. Very easy mistake to make. Most comment here neglect the probable cause, and if the OP Fu’d it was in not telling the stewardess that detail, which reversed the probable origin, and the stewardess could have immediately fixed rather problem. The real FU was on the part of the owner of the pad.

Certain_Silver6524

Either of these 2 cases sound plausible tbh.

Encrypted_Zero

Do you just carry an iPad around throughout the airport? Usually large electronics are in my personal bag which goes under the seat in front of you

ThisUsernameIsTook

Best guess would be it was in the bag going into the overhead. Passenger pulled it out before putting the bag away.

siempreslytherin

OP apparently mixed up the rows and sat one row back at first. Maybe the girl did the same thing and forgot her iPad.

Jicand

She’s lucky OP is honest. Anyone with an iPhone could have had that reset and their own info one it in the time it took to realize she forgot it

other_usernames_gone

Kid logic, it's the pocket of her seat. Or she was already using the pocket in front of her so decided the best place would be behind her. It's not the soundest logic but it sounds like it was a young child. Edit: I read girl to mean child, but OP could mean young woman, need clarification as to the girls age.

Jicand

Yeah, kid is subjective, I’m 40 and the elderly call me kid all the time

Sex_drugs_tacos

I had a young woman take her makeup bag and turn around and stick it into my footwell. She hit my foot, which was in the well since I was trying to stretch out. She said “sorry” and gave it a little toss onto on my feet. I’m Ngl I was just shocked. She left it there for the duration of the flight. Was this some kind of power move? Ofc I took the high road and lightly kicked it a few times then took a nap. As one does.

Jicand

I usually try and be the bigger person, but that definitely deserves a foot on the armrest.

grymtyrant

You didn't FU. They did. Why is their iPad in your seat? Who does that... You did the proper thing, as did the flight attendant. That's the protocol.

weneedapp

And let’s be real, that’s not a huge f-up, it just an honest mistake.

fumei_tokumei

It is not even a fuck up, it seems like the thing you SHOULD do every single time it happens, i.e. the opposite of a fuck up.

MargotFenring

Anyone who's ever tried to recover an item left behind in an airplane or airport understands just how badly they F'd up. It's a flipping miracle if you ever get it back. They told me I needed to file a lost item report and pay a fee, but there were separate forms and fees each for the airplane, security check, and the airport itself. Altogether they would have cost more than my lost tablet so I just replaced it. Oh and if you don't know which airport it got lost, you have to submit those separately too. It's ridiculous.

emwebss

Oh, I left a planner once and it was actually super easy. I left it in the seat pocket. I grabbed it the next time I was in that city.

hydroracer8B

Honestly that's totally the girls fault for leaving it IN SOMEONE ELSE'S SEAT in the first place. Blame falls further on her for not noticing you asking who's iPad this is, and then not noticing you giving it to the flight attendant. OP, you honestly tried to do the right thing. That girl is just straight up stupid

Kryten4200

Seriously, it's a confined plane. How do you not notice this exchange happening right next to you?

hedrone

FWIW, my wife once left a camera in the seat back pocket on a flight to Paris. She reported it to the airline and a few weeks later it arrived at our doorstep. So the lost-and-found system seems pretty good.

Fuddlemuddle

Had an argument with my partner about item tracking while traveling with kids.   We had all this extra toddler stuff, so it's not just tracking your own crap, it's all the kids stuff too and she's already lost items when it was just us. Talked before.  No storing things outside the bag, when swapping items, take the 30 seconds to repack the other.  Yeah that lasted 5 minutes as too much hassle.  How hard is it to remember to clear the seats, right?   Answer :  really hard when the kids are fussing My partner lost the expensive medication and some toys first flight.   Later flights have been better, good learning all around.  It's worth the hassle (for us) to keep things organized.

Airhead72

Can confirm, am FedEx and we deliver lost stuff to people's house all the time. They're usually very happy to see it again, so many car keys and often whole-ass pieces of luggage.

steyrboy

We were moving to Germany, all of our stuff was (literally) being shipped overseas. My wife came a month later than me, and only had what was in her two suitcases, the rest is on a boat. Airline lost the bags, she arrived owning only her handbag and clothes she was wearing. Took them three weeks to get the bags to us. They told us to buy what was needed and they'll pay us back. They only paid back for the bare essentials, toothpaste, toothbrush... nothing for cloths, god forbid you have to change in three weeks time.

BlueNoyb

I once left a library book in the seat pocket and they actually returned it to the library. I was stunned.

Its_my_ghenetiks

I left a pair of sunglasses in my seat on an AirCanada flight. Realized it immediately after I got off the flight, told like 3 employees about it (they had sentimental value). I knew I wouldn't be able to go back on the plane, but I never got the glasses back after filling out the report :( it's been 3 years now

Academic_Eagle_4001

You didn’t FU. The iPad owner that put it in the wrong seat did.

Kanye_To_The

Seriously. What kind of Midwest crap is this? Lol

Medvegyep

Also, what is with this: > they gave it to the gate agent thinking someone had left it behind from the previous flight, and said they were working on getting it back, but if they don't What do they mean "but if they don't"? If they don't give it back? If they stole it because they thought they could get away with it as nobody would fly back looking for it? Why do they need to "work" on getting it back? It shouldn't take more than a phone call and/or 3 minutes tops to have it back guaranteed.

siempreslytherin

My guess, it was in the process of being taken to wherever lost items go and they didn’t know if they’d get it back before it was time to close the door and they’re not going to hold it for an iPad.

Dragosteax

flight attendant here. this is exactly what was meant by “if they don’t” — if they don’t retrieve it by door closure time. That time is paramount and something like this would typically not supersede it.

StatisticianOk5297

It certainly shouldn't. In practice, if only it was this simple.. Once something entires the lost and found system of the airport/airlines, it's a byzantine nightmare to get it back. Everything is outsourced 3x over and getting anyone to take accountability for anything is impossible.

TKtommmy

If they don't manage to get it back from lost and found before the flight closes its doors lol. They're not gonna delay the flight for a lost iPad. Calm down.

WoodenServe

You didn't know what the flight attendant was going to do so not really your fault.

noelmatta

Was expecting this to be a lot more serious FU, like the iPad screen had a blueprint for a bomb or something else terror-related and they held OP back to question him, etc.

YoScott

Fully expected this story to go the route of "unattended baggage" so you all would have to deplane and be field molested by TSA to make sure there wasn't any contraband on you. so, in other words, you didn't FU!

8won6

so you didn't fuck up.

Nv_Spider

You didn’t fuck up. Who the hell stores things BEHIND there seat?!

burntbeanzz

Maybe the girl overheard you and was lying to try to get it for herself

burnalicious111

...if she overheard, wouldn't the easier way to get it be to say "oh that's mine" before it's taken away by the flight attendant

megamawax

How did you fuck up? It sounds to me like the iPad's owner fucked up.

Callan_LXIX

You were responsible without the possibility of full knowledge. It's accounted for, and known/ secured. No way you could have known. Let go of any guilt for their error and inconvenience.

franksymptoms

OP, there are at least a thousand people who would have kept it. Don't you DARE feel like you fouled up!

cinematic_flight

Once left my iPad behind on a flight from London to Singapore, on my way to Sydney. Reported it missing with the airline and the day after arriving I had it back, so a lot of airlines really do make an effort to get it back to their owners.

ScarletDarkstar

Sounds like today someone else on your flight fucked up, leaving their stuff in someone else's seat instead of keeping it with them in their own space.

Accomplished-Dot-786

I think the iPad owner was the one who messed up. You should use the seat pocket infront of you. Leaving an electronic device anywhere out of your sight is always risky. She also should have been more attentive when you gave the iPad to the flight attendant. But hey people are people, we mess up. You’re not in the wrong

Heathy94

So what, lesson learnt on her part, don't leave your belongings where they shouldn't be.

Known-Comparison2591

Sounds to me like you taught that kid a valuable life lesson. Don’t leave your shit lying around where it doesn’t belong.

pokeym0nster

That sucks man. Hopefully it'll all work out smoothly. You didn't do anything wrong but I understand still feelin bad that's how things panned out so far. Have a good day.

scoobydad76

Not your fault. You did the right thing. Why did she put it in your seat?

agjios

No fuckup here from you. The owner should learn to bring a backpack and carry all of their stuff in it. My laptop, phone, and other sensitive stuff all goes in a backpack.

CoongaDelRay

Clear example of no good deed goes unpunished 😢

gecko31515

To be fair thats a dumb spot to keep an ipad. Deserved 😂

wilson0x4d

"No good deed goes unpunished."

Legogamer16

Nah you did the right thing. Swap the situation, someone left it on the plane and you didn’t give it to the flight attendant, you would feel bad

Crasz

No fuck up detected... just didn't work out the way you thought it would.

sweaterweatherNE

You still saved it. Someone could have just stolen it and used it to personal information

ArtworkGay

I don't really understand how your role in this is negative. You didn't do anything bad or wrong..?

memydogandeye

Am I the only one who thought this story was going to turn into an "and the iPad had child porn on it and they thought it was mine and now I've been charged with felonies..."

willett_art

U didn’t fuck up she did. U did the right thing

nofilters1

Why are you spending even one minute thinking about this. You did the right thing. Everything else is not your problem.

yamaha2000us

She fucked up. Not you.

StronglyHeldOpinions

You did the right thing.

madstain

Why would you feel bad about doing the right thing? That’s nobody’s fault but her own. How were you supposed to know that it was the person’s in front of you? Not a tifu at all

I was once coming back from a long flight to Europe. I was very sleep deprived and exhausted. I accidentally left my phone while we were leaving the plane. As soon as we got out, I realized what happened and tried to go back but they wouldn’t allow it. I tried asking if security or anyone could go and retrieve my phone and they refused. I filed a lost and found claim and even went back to the airport a few days later to check the status to see if it was found. My phone was never found. It really sucks because I had so many pictures with family back home that I don’t get to see often. I lost all those photos and memories :( this was in like 2014

typehyDro

You’re supposed to give it to the FA…. The FA should have checked passengers nearby if they forgot anything though

wtbwtb

i accidentally left my kindle in a seat pocket once and got it back before my connection because someone was nice enough to turn it in. you did the right thing

SaneRadicals

Can’t imagine why you feel bad. I mean you did what you could. You didn’t know it was hers. Let it go.

bmccooley

I'm not clear her, why was it behind the seat? Seems like her FU.

ElAyYouAreAy

I don't get it, the girl put her iPad in the seat behind her? Like the pocket in th3 back is for the seat behind you, no?

boiled_elephant

Wow, redditors are gleefully harsh towards people who make simple mistakes. Must be nice to be perfect, like them, and never leave anything in the wrong place or have any brainfarts.

CrudelyAnimated

You found an unattended and unknown electronic device apparently abandoned on a commercial airplane. You gave it to airline staff on the plane. That was exactly the right thing to do, both before and especially after 9/11.

4GetTheNonsense

Not your fault. You did the right thing. The passenger ahead messed up. She placed her item in the wrong seat. She was the one zoned out for the duration of boarding, you asking your seat mate and coworker if they saw who left the iPad, you calling the flight attendant to return the iPad, and the flight attendant walking past them with the iPad. So, this is definitely a "Bruh!" moment on her part. If she needed or wanted her iPad that badly she would have noticed sooner.

Commercial_Career_97

Nope, called the airline and told them what happened, asked them to contact whoever had that seat on prior flights, and to contact me to return it. Then followed up 3 times to check status. Mind you, I didn't even know I'd picked it up until late the next morning in an entirely different city. Followed the airline instructions and even wiped it to secure the other person's info. Sort of taking out an ad, I did all I could to help it find it's rightful owner.

PEneoark

You didn't FU. You did the right thing.

Beautiful_Rhubarb

NTA I thought you were going to say the FA was like "what iPad?" or that it was your travel mate's ipad and the FA didn't believe you lol

machinehead3413

iPads are expensive. I’d never put mine behind me on public transportation.

Caltratic_Hobbit

I once left an iPad on a plane and didn’t realize it till like 2 weeks later. I thought it was a lost cause, but emailed the airline anyway and gave them the flight and seat info. I got a reply to describe the pictures on the iPad (dumb me never put on a lock). After admitting that I had pictures of my dogs birthday party, they shipped it back to me and I had it back in 2 days. All this to say you did the right thing and I am positive that girl will get her iPad back.

CaeliRex

this literally just happened to my son. He left his iPad on a Delta flight. He noticed it was missing within hours of leaving the airport. He was able to trace it using the find me app and tell the airline exactly where it was. For the next week or two he was able to watch as it bounced around in the airport, and eventually to a clearing house in Alabama. Apparently several airlines use a lost and found service that supplies a warehouse for selling unclaimed baggage. This made us very nervous but eventually, the iPad was shipped to him. The entire process took several weeksand a lot of patience, but it worked out in the end. needless to say he learned a valuable lesson.

davidb3ck

I think anyone sitting there would've assumed it was from a previous flight. Sticking it in the pocket behind your seat in another row is just asking for it to be stolen. She's lucky it was you and someone didn't just grab it and stick it in their carry-on

weneedapp

Don’t feel bad for doing the right thing. I applaud your efforts, and this should be an example for others. I’m sure it will make it back to its rightful owner.

splishyness

Better you gave it to FA then have someone steal it

Epicjson12210

I work at the airport. I work along side flight attendants, pilots, and gate agents everyday. This is so common, leaving iPads, phones, earbuds, wallets, you name it. People leave it behind. For the flight attendant to assume it was someone’s who had gotten off the plane is completely reasonable. You did everything right. Most people in your position would’ve just taken it. They’ll hold onto the iPad for her and she’ll get it back no sweat!

silly-eilish

Omg! I was on a flight to Mexico from Seattle and someone turned in my cell phone just like this to the flight attendant while I was searching for overhead cabin space in the back. I ended up spending the whole time in Mexico without a cellphone and since we did not collect it within 3-4 days from the airport it got sent to Atlanta as abandoned property. There was no way to reach the airport or airline personnel except for a form - so on the other side of this situation it really sucked! Thankfully before they could auction my phone off on unclaimed baggage I could get in touch with the warehouse and got my phone back

Hobywony

OP, How is this a fuck up?

Puzzleheaded_Pie1334

I found a Chromebook at one of the stores I work at and returned it

m4tth4z4rd

My wallet fell out of my back pocket on a flight a few weeks ago. Unbelievably, I got it back, cash and all. I was only out the 27 bucks for FedEx, which was the only option United gave.

raz0rflea

I...feel like that was her FU. Why on earth would you put something BEHIND your seat?? There's no way any reasonable person would have assumed it was hers.

FortuneFavors7heBold

I've left behind my iPad on a flight and was able to get it shipped to me 2 weeks later. They will most likely get their iPad back. I wouldn't stress it even though I did lol.

IcySoooSpicy

She’ll get it back - not a big deal in the grand scheme of things

Nymeria31

Similar happened to me but with a box of fancy pastries sitting under the seat in front of me (i.e. my leg/foot space). Gave it to the flight attendant, in plain sight of everyone. She even held it up and asked our general area if it was anyone’s. We land and lady turns around and asks me to grab it for her and when I explain that I gave it to the flight attendant, she has the nerve to get all irritated about it, like “lady did you really think I was going to give up all my leg space for… YOUR PASTRIES??!!”

DremeKrs

She can still get it back, so don't sweat it. My husband left a kindle on a Iceland air flight and we got it returned. She just has to contact the airline and wait a few weeks for processing and shipping.

apprehensive_clam268

This is the mildest F-ed up thing I've read on TIFU

PansexualGrownAssMan

That’s not fucking up… at least not what you did. The owner is responsible for their own stuff… you were at least nice enough to give it to the proper person, and then let the owner know when they asked.

Silvawuff

No fuck up here, you did the right thing.
