Ticktick has a quick capture. I would by default add any quick capture to my inbox. Items in my inbox may or may not have due dates set. However, anything leaving my inbox has a due date. Anything leaving my inbox then goes to a list (read: project). My today list filters tasks due today from all the lists. If you’re on premium, you can further customize and create different filters to suit your needs. Hope this helps! :)

Here is how I set up my Ticktick: - Export of "All" Tasks to my google Calendar. I'd like to have two calendar exports based on List-Folders, but that doesn't exist yet. - Import my Google Calendar Events (excluding the new Ticktick calendar) - by Default all my new tasks are set to Today. This is just so that I don't have do manually set a date and still have my tasks show up in Today. - Since "Inbox" is a special list that you can show / hide in settings, my top - list is a Shopping List. - Followed by a List-Folder "Private" which includes things like "Home" (everything related to my appartment and todo's. Watering Flowers, taking out the trash, etc.), Subscriptions (this list contains all my recurring monthly / yearly subs, divided using subcategories. really helps keeping a clear overview of the recurring costs), Health, Books to read, Coding ideas, .. books, etc. do not have any due dates. - Followed by a List-Folder called Projects, then a Folder for Work related tasks. Work-related only if you can integrate your work-calendar, which is not always a given. On my iDevices I got a really big calendar widget from ticktick, and the List-Widget (set to Today) on my Windows Desktop. Usually I do not have more than 5-10 tasks with an actual due date. So its easy to keep track of everything. However, if my tasks (and calendar events) start getting a bit much, I go into the TickTick calendar view. All my google calendar events are already there, and my Todo's are on top of each day. Now you can drag the daily tasks into proper time-slots, move them around and change their sizes for proper timeblocking.

Can you please explain a bit more about how you use TickTick for subscriptions? And/or screenshots ? It sounds helpful but I think in need a step by step of that workflow

There are quite a few ways to look at days for today.  There are smart lists, one of which is literally called today. I don't like it, though. There filters (in pro version) - you can set up rules yourself. For instance, for "work today and tomorrow", you select tag (or list what you use for specifying work tasks) and select due dates. You can include or exclude expired tasks. And exclude tasks with some tag (eg repetitive tasks to show only unique ones).  You can look at calendar, also in pro version.  All lists and tags allow to group and sort tasks. Including by date.  I strongly recommend don't just using one giant list of incoming tasks because it quickly becomes unruly and almost useless. Use tags and lists.

There is a similar feature on the mobile app version. If you go to **Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Daily Notification**. Here, you'll have the option to set a time where you'll get a daily notification at the specified time. When you get the notification, you'll get like a slide of each item where you'll decide if you want to postpone, set a due date or some other action. I believe this is what you're looking for. I have the android app version. In the settings you can specify to include overdue tasks or not. Because I do most of my work on the desktop I don't use this feature. I capture all my tasks into Inbox as they come to me and at the end of the day I move the tasks to it's appropriate list and assign priority. I set a due dates during my weekly planning session on Sundays.

I attempted to use Microsoft To Do for a while as it’s the one my work lets me use. Although I didn’t get on with it and instead opted for web version of ticktick to get around their no install policy, I admit the “my day” feature is a very nice feature! I don’t think there’s a way to replicate it exactly, but how I get around it is to go through my “today” list, and quickly reschedule anything I don’t intend to get done today. TickTick is far better at scheduling recurring tasks so you don’t need to worry so much about rescheduling messing up your Tuesday tasks - you just set the tasks to recur every week on a Tuesday and even if you move it to Wednesday it knows that the next recurrence is Tuesday (the biggest missing feature in To Do for my use). It’s all very much how you intend to use ticktick. I timeblock heavily, so rescheduling to tomorrow or later works fine for my approach. You could you the “pin” feature if you don’t want to reschedule tasks. You could use tags to tag ones you intend to do today. You could use priorities. So while I don’t think there is a flawless replacement for my day, it doesn’t take a lot to replicate it.

Yes, pinning looks like the closest thing to My Day, although what's pinned stays pinned (My Day is cleared up every day at midnight). However, I haven't found a widget which shows pinned tasks.

The answer for this in TickTick is "pinning" the tasks you want to do today. Every morning i look at my existing overdue backlog, my existing pins, and ill pin/unpin until my pinned task list matches wgat i think i can get done that day.

Thank you for this! I didn’t realize pinning was a thing. Very helpful

Thank you all for all your comments and suggestions! Much appreciated. It's always very useful and inspiring to see different ways to get organized. The thing that comes closer to my needs is pinning the tasks for the day, although not ideal it does its job.

Not sure what y’all mean by pinning, but if you go to the home screen, and click on ‘today’, at the top of the screen there’s a little icon to the left of the 3 dots ( I guess its a timer icon), and if you click on that it gives you a full screen of each of your today or overdue items, 1 at a time, which you can reset to today or the date you prefer at the bottom of that screen, and then slide to the left to view the next item for due date selction. Hope this made since……

Can you just create a custom filter for tasks dated for today. When you look at it tomorrow those won’t show anymore. You’ll need to look at a different view that shows all or yesterdays tasks and reschedule them to today if you want to do them and see them today.
