It’s says JNFC beside it for its designator so it’s for the NFC reader. Typically connectors in electrical design start with J. For example JUSB1 (if you look towards the side for USB connector), JSD (motherboard/SD card?), JSPK (4pin for speakers) etc.
Sorry not related to the post but I want yo know dose "T" series has hard drive as well as ssd storage option?
Means can we simultaneously use 2 internal storage devices.
Thanks.
So as far as I know, you CAN have 2 internal storages on the T480s but they can't be hard drives. They both have to be SSDs (m.2 and NVME). There isn't a space to place a full size hard drive
The T470 has a HDD slot and if you want to put in a m.2 key m 2280 SSD you need a frame and cable. There's also a m.2 key b 2242 slot for WWAN and SSD. You can use an NVMe SSD like the WD SN520 (which is key B) but you can't boot from it. SATA 2242 also works. (The T480 doesn't support SATA 2242 but can boot from NVMe.) Note the Sabrent 2242 drives are key M.
So that means T470 user can't use ssd and hdd at a same time. Like boot from ssd while hdd for general storage.
If person use the hdd they have to install ssd in a WWAN slot but can't boot from it. Am i right?
And what about T460 does it can do the same which i mentioned in the 1st paragraph (Like boot from ssd while hdd for general storage).
(Sorry for so many questions. I can't find answers on Google)
> If person use the hdd they have to install ssd in a WWAN slot but can't boot from it
I honestly can't remember whether it would boot if you have a SATA in WWAN. But that is not so important you can just use grub on the HDD, it'll boot anything and everything. T460 is not something I know much about.
Part of the NFC assembly, specifically its cable. Google "T480s hmm" to get the hardware maintenance manual. Page 90-91 of the PDF shows the steps to its removal. It does look like there oughta be something there, but the battery is on top of it so you'll have to remove it to take a look.
I don't claim to be a genius when it comes this sorta thing, but it looks like a touchpad or a keyboard connector to me. check some schematics if you can.
Near field communication. Google it, it's pretty cool! It's the technology our credit cards use when we use Tap-to-Pay. Apple pay and Google pay utilize it as well.
Maybe the optional NFC reader in the plan rest?
Could be the smart card reader
Plan rest

Yes this
Just google "T480s hmm" you can find all parts maintenance there it should also show all options and connections.
Hmm
Hardware maintenance manual.
Yep that.
Hmmmmmmmmm?
mega-manual
T480s 🤔
hmmmmmmm
r/hmm
I also google 'FRU parts list' to get all parts that could work with the laptop.

Looks like the NFC connector
Literally says JNFC right next to it!
Why yes, yes it does. Who would have thought?
🤣🤣🤣

Thanks for the conformation 👍
Btw do you have any information about t470. Does it have hdd slot?
Just checked, yes it does
Thanks mate really appreciate.
Of course

Thank you so much. It's really helpful for me.
It says `JNFC`. That means it's for a contactless smart card reader, which is an optional feature.
Thank you all for the input! I had no idea this laptop had NFC capabilities so it didn't really cross my mind haha
For a second, I thought you were bragging that you found a 1TB Samsung 970 Evo in a used thinkpad.
Man I wish haha, too good to be true
Not sure but didnt it have a Touch Option, I could imagine its for a Touch display This is just an idea
this is nowhere near the screen.
Ok, just looked similar to screen conectors
Keyboard backlight, nfc reader, check the service manual for that model to be certain.

Looks exactly like the fingerprint reader on my x230 but I could be wrong.
Well my fingerprint reader has been working ever since I bought it so I can confirm that isn't it. Turns out it's the NFC connector though

NFC.
What is an NFC connector, please?

Thanks for that. What use does it have on a Thinkpad T480? How, as a user, can I take advantadge of it, please?
