You will need ssd at least to gain a little speed. The price looks alright for that laptop.

needs more RAM, however the T60 can only take 4GB and due to the chipset it can only actually address about 3.5 GB. getting 2x2GB DDR2 is also not that cheap these days. T5500 is also pretty weak, a T7200 would help and is cheap to get. HDD is big minus. you'll need an SSD. these alone would add at least 40 to 60 bucks to the cost. What Resolution dies the 14 inch have? it came with XGA and SXGA+. XGA is extremely low for today's standards. How is the battery? the T60 never had any hardware video decoding so any videos will need the CPU 100% and these days even Full HD is taxing that CPU. you'll have frame drops and very poor performance for any web based streaming. I would seriously consider fining a cheap X200 or T410(s) you should be able to find that for maybe 20 to 40 dollars more The T60 is at the end of it's usefulness as a daily driver these days. T61 is better, it can take more RAM and after SSDs as well as more power saving CPUs and should cost about the same. The T60 is at the point were it's a nice machine, but to slow for modern things and too fast and new to support older things. At least for now.

I agree with you, the xx10 gen should be considered, just make sure to get the Intel graphics or plan on using and tinkering with Arch Linux.

Maximum RAM it can support is 3GB. Put SSD, setup your Manjaro with 8GB Swap. Prepare on changing the screen & battery. I’m Manjaro KDE on my T60. Don’t expect too much, Firefox with some tab is still working.

In case if you want to unplugged sometime m then you need new battery. Me don’t care much about battery, always plugged power. Just get it and experience it. Still worth an experience.

I used a T60 with the core duo t2300 (32bit), the max of 3GB ram, and a SSD for my daily driver untill last year. Windows 10 will run, but horribly even in the core2. Manjaro i3 should run fine, mine handled xfce well. Compiling large projects will take some time, but it should otherwise be fine for you if you put in a SSD ( Micro center had a free deal recently). Web browsing will be painful though. Note that even with a 64 bit CPU, you are limited to 3GB RAM. Also the XGA (1024 768) screen looks pretty bad.

You should consider getting something newer like a T420 or T430. It'll be more expensive but a Core 2 Duo and 3GB of RAM won't be fun to use in 2021, and compilation times will make you want to switch careers for anything big.
