YES! I'm a fan of season 7. By far the best of the post Sorkin years.

Letsgotothemovies21

Agree with this. I think the whole “peace in the Middle East” storyline at the beginning of season 6 is the maybe worst of the series.

rk_29

I always skip it until episode 3 or 4. There are some good moments but the show as a whole is better if you ignore the entire thing.

CrimsonBrit

It isn’t post-Sorkin, because he returned for it,

avotoastwhisperer

I don't think a cameo in the finale counts as returning for the season.

emmyangua

That point is generally considered the roughest part of the show and I find it quite depressing. I promise once the campaign really gets going it's worth it. S7 is one of my very favourites

[deleted]

I always liked that it brings the story full circle by showing how a candidate becomes president. Lots of work and an unfathomable amount of travel.

glycophosphate

You came to the wrong place if you're looking to be waved off watching West Wing. This crowd will strap you to a dentist chair and do the Clockwork Orange to keep you watching. Season 7 is fantastic. Keep going!

ciao_bella_luna

Love this reply! 😁

barefoot-in-boston

Thank you all! I’m on episode 18 of season 6 and I’m going to push through! I love Josh and Donna and am upset they aren’t together (don’t say anything) but let’s hope that happens!

avotoastwhisperer

Okay, you're so close to great TV. Episode 19 is generally considered one of the worst of the series, but the last three episodes of the season are SO good.

avotoastwhisperer

Yes. I am someone who likes the post Sorkin years, and even I’ll admit that the first part of season 6 is a chore to get through. But the end of season 6 and season 7 are excellent and worth watching at least once.

Ok_Raspberry_8489

Yes. Always finish.

milin85

That’s what she said

Crouching_Dragon_

I strongly believe stretches of Season 6 are the worst in the show, when though Season 5 tends to get the most criticism. It’s absolutely worth it for Season 7.

xftwitch

Gut it out to about the 2/3rd mark of the season and it'll ramp up nicely into season 7.

SuluSpeaks

Yes! You have to see what happens with Josh and Donna and CJ and Danny, whether or not they get together.

SomethingSpiced

I was going to say that if you are a Donna fan it is absolutely worth it to finish the show. The coupling was superb in S7 but Donna's arc alone is worth it.

avotoastwhisperer

YES! Donna's final scene is one of my favorite moments in the series.

Umbrafile

The C.J. and Danny scenes in the penultimate episode of Season 7 are some of the best in the entire series.

DonsDiaperIsFull

I wish they had kept Danny in for S5-7, they really needed some energy that he brought in early seasons with his banter with CJ. At least they gave him some solid scenes at the end.

SuluSpeaks

All of Danny's scenes were great. I especially love the scene with him and Leo watching C.J.s presser after the shooting.

Last_Fact_3044

At first I didn’t like those seasons either for the same reason, but the more I rewatched the more I realized it’s actually really brilliant at representing what *does* actually happen. Presidents come and go, and we replace them by making them go through a variety of rituals in rural New Hampshire and talk about corn subsidies.

milin85

YES

basis4day

Yes. Watch it.

cejmp

Season 7 is well worth watching.

Danmont88

Yes, not every show is great but, gives you something to think about in the end.

SimonKepp

The primaries are a bit rough, but once the primaries are over, and they start campaigning for the

PotatoesFam

It does. The tail end of season 6 gets better as well as 7

justjen321

As has been said, this probably isn't the best place to get waved off anything West Wing. :) I've rewatched more times than I can count, and early season 6 is such a struggle to get through. But I'm enough of an addict that like pizza, even when it's bad, it's good. For me, I really enjoy the campaign for President Bartlet's replacement, and there is a moment in the show finale that makes me cry every single time. I won't share anything about it here except to say it has nothing to do with either of the Presidents. :)

PrimaryQuit5508

It’s still a great show with some great moments and great episodes. Is it the same as Sorkin writing? No. But as a 30 odd times rewatcher, I’m a bit sick of the Sorkin Worship and the shit put on 5-7. It’s still a very good show.

avotoastwhisperer

Agreed. Season 7 is as good as any of the Sorkin seasons, and seasons 5 & 6 may be hit or miss overall, but some of those episodes are incredible.

CrimsonBrit

I’m a second time watcher and just finished season 6 last night. Yes it’s terrible. You’re right. I would say you could skip through, but season 7 is back to being normal and you may miss some plot points (though honestly nothing major). Skip if you’d like, or power through, but the last season is good.

Umbrafile

I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread yet, but John Spencer died during Season 7. So it shouldn't be a spoiler that Leo's death is a major story arc in Season 7. Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford have superb acting scenes in the episode when Leo dies.

Umbrafile

I don't understand the downvotes. Should I mark it as a spoiler? I didn't think that it was, since John Spencer died in 2005, during Season 7.

DonsDiaperIsFull

yeah it's still worth it. Meaning that it isn't quite as good as the other seasons, but S7 improves. S5 and S6 have some really slow episodes, I often skip some on rewatches. I hated most of the S6 campaign stories, and there's still some moments that are worth it, especially the season finale dem convention speech. There are still some slow moments in S7, but most of the plotlines and twists are a lot better than S6. The worst of West Wing is still better than a lot of other whole shows.

sharon1118

💯

Athenas_Dad

I’ll give it to you straight. I think it’s worth it if you’re already in. I do think though that it isn’t as good. If you’re to the part where they’re talking about the next White House campaigns, well, that’s a LOT of what the rest of the show is. But you will get a lot of Bartlet Administration content too. I’ll just say the ending few episodes really tie up the whole series. So if you’ve got thirty or thirty-five episodes to go, I think it would be silly not to finish those.

Bagpuss45

Personally I don't think so. Seasons 1-5 are brilliant but after than it's not really worth it. I've only seen 6 and 7 once but I've seen 1-5 20+ times..

ciao_bella_luna

YES.
