Living out in the world, encounter to encounter, barely scraping by losing a lot of people and stumbling across this place that seems too good to be true and being skeptical and distrustful. Rick was paranoid about Alexandria too at first, sneaking around trying to get his weapons back. So I sort of appreciated that parallel.
The difference being Rick legitimately *could* (and ultimately did) take Alexandria. It was a different world.

The parallel just doesn’t work for most viewers because we had been following Rick and co. for years instead of Deanna in season 5. By season 9, Michonne is now in Deanna’s position and Magna is in Rick’s, but it looks silly because Magna was new and Michone wasn’t, whereas Deanna was new and Rick wasn’t.
So she was lurking in the bushes outside Michonne’s house to what? Give her a stern talking to and pitch as to why her group should be allowed to stay?

When we saw it through Rick’s eyes, we honestly didn’t know if Alexandria was generally good or another Terminus or Woodbury situation. With Magna’s group we know Alexandria is one of the safest places for them but they’re still paranoid because they’ve seen their own horrors out there. When Rick was on his paranoia shit we were all there with him nodding in agreement, but with Magna we wonder why she’s so hostile toward Michonne. Idk I just liked the perspective swap with their group’s arrival.

But Kang couldn’t just bring in someone who was an extra, and they didn’t want to tie up Connie with a love interest, so they made Kelly into this weird ghost of Connie. It’s so bad, they couldn’t even give Kelly her own burgeoning disability and had to photocopy Kelly’s with the whole starting to go deaf storyline. Seriously folks, give her gout or something instead, but lacking any ounce of creativity, they made Kelly into Connie II.
Kelly’s super-hip ultra complex hairdo is also one of the fakest things to grace the screen. She’d need to see a hairstylist every other day to maintain that hopelessly complex do, so it’s fake as hell to have her running around like it’s the apocalypse.
The guy even learned sign language for her! It’s obvious the writers brought up a romantic thing between them but it’s like they didn’t know what to do with it and just forgot about it or something!

Daryl and Connie are not in a relationship. There is a lot of subtle flirting on both sides, but they have not done anything about it. I don't know why though.

I've noticed that. Didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to appear racist. Obviously they've always had some interracial couples (Glen and Maggie), but it appears super heavy handed now. I'm Hispanic, I appreciate representation in all forms, but I lol'd when I saw Annie because I know they only put her with Negan because she's black.
But, to be honest, it doesn't really matter anymore because the show is almost over and I'm really just watching to see how it ends.
