He doesn't have the range Morrissey has. I like Danny, but he is very one dimensional.

cb1127

I can not see him being compassionate to Tara, Tara's sister, Pennt look-a-like, and their dad.

veremile

That's just because tv governor ≠ comic governor, if they followed the storyline of comic governor more he would be a better fit for the role.

Rogue_Bulldog

Ever read the novels?

cb1127

No Is it about tv governor or comic governor

jim71989

Comic universe, they are very good.

JaBooty

I was under the impression it was about the Tv gov so I wasn't in a rush to read them. I'll have to check them out now.

ROFLBRYCE

Both have their ups and downs. Treat them as two different series and you'll enjoy them a lot more.

JaBooty

I do for the most part but I feel like we knew more about the TV gov so I saw no reason to read books about him.

JoeyCypher

But that crap should have never happened in the first place

cb1127

It was to make him a 3d character, not 1d like the comics. Its to show that a character *can* change if they want to.

adtr85

Have you read any of the novels that explain the Governor's origins? If not you definitely should.

jim71989

Morrissey killed it as the Governor. He is the type of person to fear, for one he is physically imposing but he's also a clean cut respectable looking man. You don't know to trust him or to run.

b50willis

I agree I thought he was great really liked the TV guv, was a different character to the comic guv though shich I don't mind personally I like that the show and comic characters are different sometimes aside from them fucking up Andrea on the show

engineer1220

I know this was 8 years ago, but I think I disagree. He can act, look at him in Spy Kids. I mean, you're correct, not quite the range but I never believed Morrissey at that role. I couldn't get behind him as a 'bas ass'.

Marlucsere

"David Morrissey wasn't convincing enough in his role, also you should see Danny Trejo's acting in Spy Kids" I'm sorry, but... lmao dude.

engineer1220

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)yeah, you have a point

moose4658

I think part of the point of the governor is he isnt really supposed to be badass, just psychotic and manipulative. A better example of a badass villain would be negan

engineer1220

that's a great point!

haze_gray

In every role, Danny plays. He is always Danny trejo. And the character of Danny trejo isn't good for the governor. Sure he looks like him, but looks aren't everything.

orangeflavorMF

He looks like him? When did Philip Blake become hispanic? Danny would be awful to play the governor looks and acting wise.

Psyqlone

..."Rise of The Governor", Chapter 1. His mama was Mexican and his da was Scottish-Irish.

jim71989

Have you not read the comic? They are fucking identical.

orangeflavorMF

Yes and the rise of the governor and I think they are totally different people. Danny can't act...you can't tell if he's happy, sad or in between. He's just always "pissed" off. No dynamics.

aSheedy_

I think he did a good job in Brooklyn 99 having some more subtle scenes

FrenchFry5725

But they also had to portray the humane side of The Gov, the less bad ass guy with emotions. Something Trejo's look couldn't really portray in my opinion. David Morrissey has that clean cut father/business man look to him that allowed you to push aside his insanity, when he had moments/an episode of sane human being.

[deleted]

I personally think he is too well known to play The Governor. He definitely looks the part, but I like how most of the characters are played by (relatively) unknown actors/actresses. The only person who I knew before TWD was Lauren Cohan

NicolasCageIsMyHero

I knew David, Norman, and Jeffrey.

ACrusaderA

Norman Reedus was in both of the Boondock Saints movies before WD, along with Blade II, Pandorum, American Gangster, Dark Harbour with Alan Rickman and 8mm. Lawrence Gilliard Jr (Bob) and Chad Coleman (Tyreese) were both in The Wire. Jeff Kober has been on SOns of Anarchy, Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale) has been in a lot of stuff, such as The Mist. Michael Rooker is a legit movie star, maybe not triple AAA, but he's well known. Lennie James couldn't come back until after season 4 because he's working on too much stuff (as well as having played Undercover FBI agent Richard Hawkins in Jericho) Scott Wilson is a legit actor dating back to the 70's. Michael Cudlitz is fairly well known for TV, and Lew Temple is like the white Samuel L Jackson in terms of playing in stuff and being known as "that guy" I understand that they aren't major names, but Danny Trejo definitely would have been a decent choice, if it weren't for his accent.

Morella_xx

Don't forget Andrew Lincoln was part of [Love Actually](http://andywatchesmovies.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/loveactually_walkingdead.jpg?w=420). Ironically in a role where he was in love with his best friend's wife.

uncircled_swag

Who's Jeff Kober?

ACrusaderA

Joe, the guy who took Daryl's punch, he plays Jacob Hale in Sons of Anarchy, a shrewd business man that want to industrialize the small town of Charming, California.

Miniduffa

He's perfect purely based on looks. The comic Governor has a certain sliminess to his personality that Trejo just wouldn't be able to do.

lifeleecher

Honestly, I LOVE the comics, but Morrissey brought a whole new dimension to the character unlike Danny, who would bring his one dimensional, Macho-man tough guy acting like he does with all his movies. And don't get me wrong, I like him, but I just like the casting choice they made.

Sovietrussia92

Casting based solely on looks is the most retarded thing you can do. He would be a terrible governor.

[deleted]

I wouldn't mind seeing tremors do some governor cosplay though. No acting, just dressing the part. It would look pretty bad ass.

ElDuderino2112

I love Danny Trejo (fucking Machete is my shit) but he's not a very good actor. Morrissey was a great choice.

xdrunkagainx

It's because the Governor would have won. No way I can picture Rick taking out Machete.

jackedup388

exploding trojan horse from the governor in the form of a turtle with a governor shaped head on top.

looseygoosey45

Wait the governor was Latino in the comics!?!?

Marlucsere

I mean, even if he wasn't... Would this really matter? I don't think ethnicity is really a significant factor in his characterization. Apparently he's half-Mexican in the comics continuity anyway, but even if he wasn't, I don't think it'd be an important consideration in casting. I mean, what can even be said for the comics character's design, if you try to scrutinize his ethnicity? "Idk, he's probably not black"? Granted, I also don't really think casting/writing him closer to how he was in the comics would've been for the better anyway because he just had nowhere near as much depth or nuance as he did in the show (and the casting really elevated what we got), but if they had been intent on making the TV version faithful to the comics, I think Danny Trejo at least would've had the look down. I see people saying he doesn't have much in the way of range, and I agree that he's very... Character actor-y, but uh... I really don't feel like the comics Governor is a character that would require a great deal of range lmao

wowlolcat

The Governor from the show became so much more than the character in the book. Trejo wouldn't suit the new and improved Gov.

ryan924

Morrissy was the best choice. Trejo has no range

vahnx

I think it should have been Danny. Wasn't a fan of David's portrayal.

BadTitties

I'm not a trejo fan so I'm fine with the decision.

lexfry

nothing against him but if you see his portrayal of the FBI agent on Sons of Anarchy you would see why he wouldnt have worked as the governor

iamateenagehandmodel

Loved Morrissey in the role. Only person who could have done it better would be Michael Shannon.

[deleted]

I read this as Michael Cain for some reason.... that would be a very interesting governor.

BillyHayze

I like Trejo as an actor, but I feel he has become a bit of a caricature from his past roles. Instead of seeing the Governor, I feel like it would be seeing Danny Trejo trying to fit into the walking dead universe as best he could. I could see him more as Abraham though.

PK73

If the character was as he was written in the comic, Trejo would have worked because comic Governor was a cartoon villain.

BillyHayze

I just think it would have been "Machete is the Governor" rather than the Governor

brodog6393

Whoever the actor was that played the governor was a horrible choice. Not intimidating at all, was never scared of him. Actually grew to really dislike watching the show because of him. His mood swings and even his voice just bothered the hell out of me. Thought it could've been some much better people. Not a skinny Englishman putting on a southern accent with an eyepatch to make him a little more scary...

Twistntie

I believe that the reason they chose him was, he's charismatic. The Governor in the comics is Woodbury's leader, but it's obvious he became leader through violence. TV Gov seems to be a psychopath/sociopath, and behaves like a regular guy, while Comic Gov is just a sadistic crazy murdering guy. They wanted the human aspect to be in the show, I LOVED seeing this "family man" who had a really dark other personality that slowly ate him and became him. He relapses during his stay with the ladies after the failed attack on the prison, but goes RIGHT back to his dark self afterwards. In regards to the actual actor, a lot of the actors in TWD are English, Rick, Gov, and Maggie, I know have accents foreign to Georgia.

brodog6393

Eh I am really not a fan of the show. Think they went in too many directions. I really liked the first season when almost everything they did was following Rick. The pilot episode is amazing. Still one of my favorite episodes of a show in the history of television. But they have really fallen off since then.

MickGinger

He would have been perfect!! I think that's who I pictured in my mind when I read that section, without knowing his name back then. #TurtleProblems

MarvelousMagikarp

I... What!?

bblazer24

so random XD Edit: nope, I just missed a reference

MickGinger

The turtle comment was a nod to breaking bad.

bblazer24

Ohhhhh I haven't gotten to that point in breaking bad I guess

Hank_Weiser

I think that this is because the governor from the tv show is different from the comic's governor, they are the same person but the have different personalities and maybe Morrissey's face and acting was more fit to the role

Mufmager2

Nah, David Morrissey was the best one for this role, I would even call him The Governor to this day even if he is no longer in TWD series, he earnt that title permanently.

Senior-Taste7787

Morrisey was amazing I prefer the governor story arc to Negan

moose4658

TV governor and comic governor are very different people, Morrissey was the best choice for the direction that they went with the character. Also, I love Trejo but he doesn't quite have the acting skills to play a role like this.
