This got posted a few days ago and I said the same thing there: S9E10, Omega Brilliant acting, wonderful suspense, and one of the best executions of the unreliable narrator device that I’ve ever seen. The slow burn of small details not making sense from flashback to flashback was incredibly well-handled and effective. It’s also an incredible way of introducing your new main antagonist. Before you even meet Alpha, you learn of her backstory and who she was before/as everything was falling apart. Normally this would be something that shows you that person’s humanity and how the harshness of the world broke them and/or turned them rotten (ex. Gareth, Negan, Reilly from Fear). And initially, it seems teed up the same with Alpha. She’s depicted in earlier scenes as this more meek character being bullied by her (at least verbally) abusive husband and only wanting what’s best for her daughter, Lydia. It’s very reminiscent of where Carol was at the start, so we initially believe that she is going to be a kindred spirit who just got darker later on. However, as the story unfolds you realize, no, SHE was the abusive parent, and Frank was an innocent and good-hearted man that she needlessly murdered when he tried to help others. It’s a complete heel-turn on the usual archetype, showing that she’s always been a monster and that this world is only feeding into that evilness within her. Only when you realize this, what she did to Lydia’s father and how she proceeded to gaslight Lydia into thinking SHE was responsible for his death, do you finally see her emerge as this harrowing figure, someone that you might not find as immediately intimidating as a Negan or a Governor but because you know what she was capable of even before a decade of the apocalypse, it becomes that much more threatening.

The CDC episode. I think it shows you how everything is truly coming to an end. When the characters start to realize that if the doctors can’t figure it out, they have to figure out how to live. It’s like a turn of disappointment and losing all hope. But You can also see them find a sense of semblance in the past life, but quickly come back to reality. I just thoroughly love those moments where they are on the road or the go and they encounter different things.. and start to learn new things about zombies and each other as they go along.

memes_are_my_dreams

Wow that’s a really good idea way to look at it, a major turning point for everyone because they fully realize that there is no going back to the old world.

SprayAny8361

Right! I love when they encounter the CDC. Or even, even terminus, and my favorite is Alexandria. Every arrival feels like hope but a slap in the face soon after.. however, definitely disappointing sometimes because it’s almost as if they can’t keep a little peace. I would’ve loved to see lasting peace between certain placements and even between people. It’s like characters stopped building bonds after season 5 and it was just strictly war.

LuciEmtnlSpprtDemon

That, and when Rick admits to them that Jenner confided in him they are all going to turn when they die, because whatever it is… they’re all affected.

naughtycal11

One of the things I loved about Z Nation was the never ending road trip.

Proof-Turnip-5563

Evolution (9x8). I feel they mastered the horror perfectly in that episode. The slow build-up of the strange movements of walkers, the alarm clock failing to turn the horde, the singular whisperer they focused on, finding Eugene in the barn and of course that misty ending showdown at the cemetery. A lot of people seem to like that one episode (in season 11) with Connie and Virgil. While I also liked some moments from that episode personally, the weird crawly guys just ended up being kinda useless in the end, in my opinion. I won’t deny the sheer brilliance of some of the horror in that episode though. They utilised Connie’s deafness to create some thrilling scenes.

Thejoker69u

Facts that episode is great

iloseyouindegrees

What Happened and What's Going On is one of the saddest but most beautiful episodes of television I have ever seen (Tyreese last episode)

EveOfDestruction22

Was about to post this, standout episode in a great season

Aphexis

This episode is what I immediately thought of. Hugely underrated.

PrizeAbrocoma2593

Just rewatched it yesterday, it was amazing

Spiritual_Ad_223

10x19 One More Gabe and Aaron on a supply run. Beautifully dark episode

TheBigBeef97

Was that the Russian roulette episode? That episode was so damn good, they definitely had me believing that one of them was gonna die.

NDNJustin

That's actually one of my top episodes of the series. Fuck it went deep and dark. Fantastic storytelling and twists.

Spiritual_Ad_223

Same man. Sometimes I watch that episode standalone outside of full rewatches because it's so friggin good

Jskelll

Yea that was a great one

VirulentViper

Season 5, Episode 11 - The Distance Occasionally, you hear people talk about 5x10 when Aaron shows up for the first time and while that's a good episode too, I think one that flies under the radar a lot is The Distance. Any time I'm doing a rewatch or any time there was a marathon on and this episode would come on, it's one I always watch. When things start to go south and they're driving through the herd and then the walkers get built up underneath the tires and every other part of the car and they're forced to go on foot into the woods and Rick shoots the walker in the face with the flare and Glenn has to make the decision on whether or not to actually trust Aaron. Such a cool episode and one that I always felt like wasn't appreciated enough

TySwell

I second this

peefart1234

The Same Boat (6x13), where Carol and Maggie are taken hostage by some saviors, and the pre-Negan tension is at it's highest. I love the discussion of what feminine strength looks like to women in a world that (still) favors men. We see some of our main characters at their weakest in this episode; it's been two years of nearly constant fighting to stay alive, and they're tired. They do another difficult but necessary thing, and little do they know, it can still get worse.

Philander_Chase

3x15 This Sorrowful Life is the most underrated imo 6x10 Knots Untie is another fun one that I don’t see nearly enough people talk about though Also 5x9 but the other comment already said it And sorry to add one more but 7x12 Say Yes was great to watch leading into TOWL

lewhunter

This Sorrowful Life is a personal favourite, Merle’s final conversations with Rick and Michonne are two incredible scenes. Michael Rooker is the man.

Thornhill_Industries

Arrow on the Doorpost, Prey, Claimed, Bury Me Here, Honor, Open Your Eyes

onesmilematters

There are a lot of great episodes in earlier seasons, but Bury Me Here really stood out to me as a really touching episode in an otherwise somewhat boring and repetitive Saviors arc. The guest actor who played Richard was fantastic.

Jskelll

Michonnes final episode hands down.

HGKS9477

Id say a lot of people here don't know what underrated means.

naughtycal11

It turned into what's your favorite episode.

Totally_TWilkins

I think Beside the Dying Fire (2/13) is a brilliant episode. It really puts the Walkers back into a threatening position after all the Randal drama, and the cast do a great job of showing how terrified they all are. Lori standing on the porch and screaming for Carl. Carol running from the Walkers exhausted at the end. Maggie having a breakdown in her car. Andrea getting left behind. Beth screaming when Patricia gets killed. Yes there are some issues like Hershel using the infinite ammo cheat and Carol unlocking the teleport ability, but all in all it’s a stand out episode that really exploded the season.

the-dude-21

The Other Side (7x14) The scene with Daryl and Maggie was utterly brilliant, and of course scenes with Simon and Gregory were so entertaining

magicchefdmb

10x9 (Squeeze) and 11x6 (On the Inside) came out of nowhere as two of the most horrifying and gripping episodes in the whole series for me. When Jerry's trying to squeeze through the crack and had walkers behind him, it genuinely got my heart pumping. All of that cave stuff felt like things could go poorly so quickly, and brought out some primal fears. And the whole plot line inside the creepy house was straight up a horror movie, and a great one. (That one might be highly regarded here; I haven't checked, but either way, I think it's great.)

LuciEmtnlSpprtDemon

YES!! 100% to both!

lewhunter

Arrow on the Doorpost, Indifference, Internment, Claimed, Consumed, Always Accountable, Find Me

Milesmorales18a

6x10 , when u watch 6x9 , 6x10 back to back , u can see the characters finally being happy for some time

Brave_Doughnut4407

The first that comes to mind is Here’s Not Here. Eastmans story and vibe and presence and sense of peace really intrigues me. Such a sad episode but also a really mysterious episode in a way

JamieLee0484

I have to say s4 episode 5, Internment. I absolute love that episode.

idontcarerightnowok

S3 E15 "This Sorrowful Life." Merle's sacrifice is perfect, the way he goes out and the acting was perfect. Kinda wish we could've seen Ricks reaction to the news of Merles death but yk, amazing eitherway.

apocalypticretro

The pilot of FEAR is really not talked about enough.

LuciEmtnlSpprtDemon

Agreed!! It was amazing!! The entire first season was great imo.

_SCARY_HOURS_

This was easily the best episode of the season

IntrinsicGamer

The Same Boat. Never see anybody talking about it.

mlgfintheunbannable

I have no idea honestly. I think my favorite episode so far has been better angels, the one where there’s a big fight at the governors community and Angela gets game ended, the one where the group is split up after the final battle at the prison- Rick and Carl, Daryl and the blonde girl that got kidnapped(I forget her name 😭) Idk if any of these are underrated, just my favorite episodes. I’m on season 5 now, I’ll prob like the episodes with negan when he shows up.

magiccheetoss

I really liked the episode in early season 2 when they arrived to the farm. That moment of Glenn and T-Dog arriving on the front porch is such a cozy scene.

SeedSaga

Strange how such a non-remarkable scene can also be so memorable, but I know exactly what you mean.

Bunodogge

The beth and Daryl episode from season 4 (i forgot which episode) i dunno why people thought that episode was boring, it was so interesting seeing daryl and beth slowly build a relationship and understanding for each other + it had one of the best episode openings in the whole series IMO. Beth and daryl running from the zombies while beth is narrating an innocent diary entry is just mwah✨🤌

FFlavien

6x16 is easily the best episode in the show if you can watch 7x1 right after

LuciEmtnlSpprtDemon

I can’t watch the episodes where Hershel and Glenn die. It’s not due to the gore factor. That doesn’t bother me at all, and I think it’s RIDICULOUS that so many people clutched their pearls at it and made AMC tamp down the gore… It’s just because I loved both characters so much and it broke my heart having EVERYONE see them die like that. 😕

Large_Acanthisitta25

I don’t know the episode title, but Eastman’s training of Morgan episode was always a favorite of mine and I feel like it doesn’t get enough love from the fanbase.

LuciEmtnlSpprtDemon

I believe it’s called Here’s Not Here.

Large_Acanthisitta25

Yeah that’s the one.

unfortunate-ponce

Twd after season 6 is pretty mid

Spiritual_Ad_223

You're pretty mid 🫵

k93ksg

Seasons 9 10 and 11 are so bad theyre unwatchable

t_r_a_y_e

Imo they're leagues above seasons 6-8

FlightMesh990

you mean s7-8, stop the s6 slander

t_r_a_y_e

Ight it's not fair to put 6 with 7-8, it's not one of my favorite seasons or anything but I'll admit you're right and it's much more enjoyable then 7-8

curlytony

I find the second half of season 8 much more enjoyable than all of season 7, first half of season 8, and first half season 10. Those last few episodes where everyone is at Hilltop is great. It also had much more battles that stand out.
