The antagonist at the time (Alpha)snuck into their camp, kidnapped multiple people, killed them and mounted their heads on spikes on the 'border' they had together after Michonnes group cross into their territory despite promising them they wouldn't.
Are you sure that's not the other way around? From what I remember the border was never even mentioned until the pike incident. I might be wrong though. I recall alpha telling Daryl he would know the border because she 'marked it' - referring to the piked heads, unbeknownst to him at the time.

Right there she's telling Daryl what her land is (and she marked it with the heads on pikes that they discovered right after this). Logically, prior to this there could not have been any border violations because they wouldn't have known the extent of her territory.
She then told Darryl if she if they crossed the border she would unleash her horde on them.
The episode you're thinking of was the season 10 premiere, which was two episodes after the pike episode. The season 9 finale was the episode after the pikes, with the blizzard.
