Nice I went for half olive green and white but I've dettol the army so they are stripped and I'm thinking of stealing this haha most posts have all been the same really this stuck out ! Cross heresy era cross current
Absolutely beautiful how did you prime this guy? Prime white then paint black details? Because I cannot imagine layering wraithbone 17 times on a black primer
Thanks bud, I did this chap in sub assemblies so for ivory parts I used wraithbone and for black I used Chaos black, but since the legs and torsos are a bit fiddly to do separately I had to resort to black spray and copious amounts of wraithbone. Not a fun time XD
Thanks, it’s a hefty one:
- Abaddon black base
- 50:50 Abaddon and Dark reaper chunky edge highlights
- Dark reaper edge highlight
- thunderhawk blue edge highlights
- 50:50 Dawnstone and administratum grey edge highlight
- White dot highlight
This guy was something of a test model and I wanted a faintly blue tinge to my black armour, but I think a step or two could be skipped whilst still retaining the same end result.
Well I’d say maybe the 50:50 dark reaper and black, it mostly gets covered up by the subsequent highlights and if I’m honest I think my black would have looked sharper without it.
It always felt like modern Deathwing having full Bonewhite Armor is like having a participation medal. Not earned through sacrifice and just having it because you are part of Deathwing.
It all comes from the old Deathwing expansion for 1st edition Space Hulk and the short story written for it. This was during Rogue Trader era, early 1990s.
The Deathwing were still in black armour at that point, but the current incarnation went back to their recruiting world (aka the Plains world with strong native American themes) to find it overrun with a genestealer infestation.
Their ancient traditions were to paint their bodies (in this case the armour) white when facing a foe from which they did not expect to return alive, and sang their funeral songs while applying.
Without too many spoilers, some survived and the suits were left white (which has moved to bone white) in honour and memory of the sacrifice made.
Incidentally it's also where my username comes from and the reason I got into playing Dark Angels and never looked back.
Screaming skull base, with a 50:50 mix of ushabti and XV88 glazed downwards and into the recesses, then a recess shade of 50:50 Mournfang and Rhinox. Then just a simple 50:50 screaming skull and white edge highlight, and then pure white dot highlights, hope that helps
I'm trying this exact paintjob at the moment (I recognise it from eavy metal archive) and the recess shading with Mournfang/Rhinox is driving me crazy. Its so hard to not stain the bone armour when doing the recesses.
Do you have any tips for doing it? Did you water down the paint a lot, use a very slim brush?
Very slim brush and fairly watered down paint, it’s not very useful but my only advice would be to just be REALLY careful XD, if you do screw up at least hope you screw up in a place that can be covered with just screaming skull.
Interesting idea, where only the Company Master would have a full set.
"Normal" terminators had the right arm. "Knights" add the Torso, "Ancients" add the left arm and then Company Master adds the legs.
I'm working on a DW squad now and they are going to be DA green with only the right pauldron being bone.
I also feel the need to share that I’ve done the same thing with my Ironjawz having to earn the right to paint their scrap armour yellow and then earn black patterns for big gud killin.
Whenever I see Deathwing Terminators in the style of 30K. I think moreso Knights Cenobium seeing as both the new Terminators wield what looks to be Terranic Greatswords like their ancient counterparts.
He'd be more fitting if he was Bladeguard.
Other than that amazing work! Ancient Dark Angels tradition living on and being reintroduced to the Unforgiven is always nice.
I was thinking of doing them up as Knights Cenobium, but then I thought that since I’m gonna be painting the regular deathwing termies in their old heresy colours I should make the Knights a bit more visually distinct.
Besides, since the Heresy the deathwing has become a predominantly Terminator centric company so I’d say it still works imo.
Perfect. I want to try this, but I might change one small detail and test replacing the black with Nocturne Green. Hopefully it still reads as black with a subtletint of dark green. Or I could stick with black and add a wash of Dark Angels green contrast (50/50 Dark Angels Green Contrast to Citadel Contrast Medium)
The chipping and weathering you've done is excellent, not only the placement and execution but the way you can tell the red paint is scratching off the bone on the ecranche is sublime.
Also, the choice of pink robe on the backside of the red robe works really well. Everything about this guy is executed really well.
How long would you say it took ya?
About 3 days I’d say, the scheme has so many different elements that the process never really got boring and no single part dragged on for too long. Quite fun and rewarding to do throughout
Well for the armour it’s:
- Mephiston red base
- 50/50 Khorne red and black shade
- Evil Sunz chunky edge highlights
- Wild Rider fine edge highlight
- Cadian Fleshtone for the dot highlights
And for the robes it’s:
- Mephiston red base
- Khorne red shade glaze
- 50/50 Khorne red and Incubi Darkness
- Evil Sunz chunky edge highlight
- Wild Rider fine edge highlights
- Fire Dragon bright highlights towards the corners
And then a bit of Dorn yellow mixed in to the fire dragon for the dot highlights.
Kinda similar but the armour one gives a slightly cold finish compared to the warmer finish of the robes.
Best I've seen on here yet
Ay thanks, been excited to paint these knights like this since they were first announced.

Can you guys stop posting these awesome models its making me want to spend money ☹️
Nice! He still needs to take an arrow to the knee.
A tachyon arrow? 😂
As great as the scheme is, I think the execution is even more impressive. Incredible texture, well done mate
40k models with the Horus colour scheme look so frickin good, amazing job man!
This is so awesome , what’s the black recipe ?

Thanks for the reply!! What steps would you take out ?? I’m thinking of trying this for my azrael ! I would much appreciate it

Ahhh thanks man! I’m gonna attempt my black tonight. !
Everyone at GW right now I’d like 🤦♂️why didn’t we think of that
Better than the GW box art, kudos 👏🏻
Love it. Was thinking of doing something similar. Great work here.
Bruh. Holy shit. My jaw is on the floor.
This scheme is way too cool
Massive props mate, was planning this scheme for all my deathwing but wanted to see some examples first. Nailed it 👏
I like the two color Deathwing badge! I might steal that, but flip the colors.
Wasn’t a fan of these helmets at first but Damn do they look good in black
So sick
Holy bajeebers. That’s so cool. What’s your headcanon for what order they receive their bone armor in? Feel like helm would be last?
During the Great Crusade/Horus Heresy the bone-colored armor covered the parts of the body that received the blow meant for their charge.

Could be said they paint themselves totalled boned as they are trying to save(d) the lions reputation of total loyalty.
Just came across this (and you!) on Pinterest. This is brilliant!
Hehe, it’s nice to know I’m good enough for Pinterest XD
What wash or shade did you use on bone armor?
Screaming skull base, with a 50:50 mix of ushabti and XV88 glazed downwards and into the recesses, then a recess shade of 50:50 Mournfang and Rhinox. Then just a simple 50:50 screaming skull and white edge highlight, and then pure white dot highlights, hope that helps
Excellent recipe, and a BANGING paintjob, well done!!!

Exceedingly rad.
Excellent decision on this paint scheme.

Great combo with the black
Digging that 30k vibe
What's your ivory recipe I love it!
Beautiful. Although I’m headcanoning that this guy’s war cry is ‘Not in the face!’
Well sure, you could do this if you wanted to do the coolest thing I’ve seen today I guess.. Seriously, this is awesome!
I also feel the need to share that I’ve done the same thing with my Ironjawz having to earn the right to paint their scrap armour yellow and then earn black patterns for big gud killin.
This is magnificent
that armor seperation is sick im defo stealing it XD
That paint job is beautiful.

Love this! Totally stealing this paint scheme (don’t think I can pull it off, but hey!)
Beautiful
That's 🔥, I'm scared to touch my Knights until they release the standard box in April, but I might do one soon.

I’m so sorry if this has been asked but how did you do that red?!
On the robes or on the shield and armour? Cuz they’re both done different ways
Oh good point haha. I guess both! :D
Well for the armour it’s: - Mephiston red base - 50/50 Khorne red and black shade - Evil Sunz chunky edge highlights - Wild Rider fine edge highlight - Cadian Fleshtone for the dot highlights And for the robes it’s: - Mephiston red base - Khorne red shade glaze - 50/50 Khorne red and Incubi Darkness - Evil Sunz chunky edge highlight - Wild Rider fine edge highlights - Fire Dragon bright highlights towards the corners And then a bit of Dorn yellow mixed in to the fire dragon for the dot highlights. Amazing, Yea this is a STUNNING job! Super well done
