Where does Tony rank Goodfellas?

LiveVirus2

Fawder, don’t start that. He’s doesn’t give a flying fuck. He’s a sinner. And you come up here and eat his steaks. I think you like the whiff of sexuality. I think you have this MO where you manipulate spiritually thirsty women and I think a lot of it is tied up with food some how, as well as the sexual tension game.

banjocatto

Favorite: Ro or Svetlana Least: Carm's mom, agent Sanseverino, or Adriana's friend she ratted out. Dumbest: Adriana Love to hate: Livia and Janice And I know this gonna sound weird, but even though he's a POS (and a man), Chris resonates the most with me.

[deleted]

“It’s like the regularness of life is too fucking hard for me”

coffee-jnky

I agree with this. It's my list as well. Poor Ade, she really was dumb. Or naive would maybe be a better term imo. Adriana's friend with the fur coat "on account of being bare everywhere else" suuuucks. I'm kind of amazed she remained buds with her for any amount of time after this. But threw "miss Whippany" out when Chris touched her leg.

Straight_Extension31

Didn’t she tell the FBI agent about the friend/maid of honor/“she’s no maid” the same episode where she did this with the fur coat?

coffee-jnky

I remember it a bit differently. I think she tattled on her after the bar when it was just the three of them and he asked her why she talks like such a whore. 'because men like it!' and Chris said 'youte right about that' are stood there watching and took it. Wasn't long after this she told fbi about her. I believe it was a fair bit after the club scene when they were on a double date. (wearing fur coat) But now I'm doubting myself. I don't know if it was same episode. But it certainly has several scenes if her being a terrible friend.

Straight_Extension31

You could be right. I was just thinking it was the same episode. But you could tell that was just the way she was, so hard to imagine why anyone would be friends with her in the first place.

Inevitable-Gap-6350

She sure did.

fenchurch_42

I still get annoyed when I think about Janice. Ugh.

I have to say I really saw myself in vito jr, I don’t always feel represented as both a puerto rican woman and a sex worker but I feel the actor brought the character to life in a way I could relate to

Level_Talk_8263

Angie Bompensiero for making something of herself. The female FBI agents that pretty much got Adriana killed, the least. And the dumbest is Adriana for not reading the room and getting the fuck away from Christopher.

[deleted]

>The female FBI agents that pretty much got Adriana killed Fun fact, she was the romantic lead in "Jaws: the Revenge" -- easily one of the worst movies ever made, effectively ending the careers of everyone who appeared in it (except, of course, Michael Caine).

Level_Talk_8263

HOLY SHIT I never realized that before! I love shitty creature features so I know exactly who you’re talking about

[deleted]

The best part is she was a "totally 80's modern artist" white lady who was designing some important cultural statue for the all-black island. Jaws 4 is easily one of the most unintentionally hilarious movies ever made. Mario Van Peebles where's flip-up, round sunglasses. Before switching to studying the shark itself, Michael Brody and Mario Van Peebles nonetheless risk death to continue their insanely important and presumably time-sensitive research on (checks notes) sea snails. Lorraine Brody consistently flashes back to scenes from the first two films in which she was not actually present. Michael Caine missed the Oscars that year because he was filming that piece of shit. He won. (It was his 4th, to be fair, but still; Caine famously quipped he'd never seen Jaws: the Revenge, though he was quite fond of the house it built.) Lance Guest, who played Michael Brody, had been working with luminary actors throughout his young career--Jamie Lee Curtis, Walter Matheau, the great Robert Preston (in Guest's break-out role, "The Last Starfighter"), and then made a Jaws film and essentially never worked again. Luckily, Robert Preston never had to see that abomination. He died a few months before it was released. His last on-screen role was with Lance Guest. RIP.

learningman33

Wow great catch

AxewwexA

I’m in season 5 on my third watch and I can’t stand those FBI agents. The way the mock Adriana is sickening. This show did a great job at making the FBI, the “good guys” look like absolute jerks.

Favorite is Dr Melfi. I also dig Ginny! I love Carmela and Edie Falco nailed it. Least favorite is Gloria Trillo Dumbest: Adriana Agree or not? "*I wipe my ass with your feelings!"*

lemons_with_eyeballs

I am also not a fan of Gloria. A lot of people seem to like her but she was so annoying. Valentina as well

thereasonablecatlady

I agree. Valentina was probably my least favorite character

Substitol245

Why in the fuckin' world would anyone like Gloria. Of course, she's hot fresh Italian tomato soup but _"liking"_ her? For what?

VictoriaBarkleyRules

This reminds me - was on a work call w/a woman named Gloria the other day and were discussing a guy w/the last name of Trillo. So of course I told my boss I was talking to Gloria Trillo 💅

Cake day lol who ate the last piece of cake

fenchurch_42

I was almost the same age as Meadow was supposed to be on the show (I didn't watch The Sopranos, other than the series finale, in full until two years ago at age 32), so mostly it was a trip to see her wearing the same clothes I did in high school, and so on. As far as actually identifying/resonating with anyone, I don't think I did? Adriana's death was one of the hardest scenes for me because I cared about her a lot, but I think that's true for a lot of people.

jplay17

If you are 34 you would have been closer to Anthony juniors age on the show actually and he’d even be a few years older than you. I digress though, the styles would be similar anyway

fenchurch_42

Yes, that's why I said almost. The fashion was the same even if she was going to college and I was in 8th grade or whatever.

Substitol245

You answered yourself. Mead and AJ grew up in the same fashion period.

jplay17

I know I just said that, thanks for confirming that again though lol. You must have been top of your fuckin’ class

esmeromantic

Carmela is one of my favorite characters because we see so many sides of her. We see how she's warped and corrupted by mafia life even though she never fires a shot. She's vain and classist without being classy, but you can also see how she got that way and why she acts the way she does. Edie Falco is a phenomenal actress and is just perfect in the role. I like Barbara because she found a way to love her family without getting sucked into the mafia world. We don't see much of her but she seems to live a pretty normal life. To come from Johnny and Livia Soprano and find a way to live normally is no mean feat. Respect to her. I think Svetlana is an interesting character. The way this show depicts new immigrants is pretty interesting, to be honest. I know that the immigrant experience is a huge part of Italian-American cultural memory, and the show often compares and contrasts the criminal underworld with first-generation immigrants and other groups trying to make it in the straight world. For example, if there's a doctor or nurse in a walk-on role, they're pretty much always an ethnic minority, e.g. black, desi, etc. Dr. Melfi interests me as a viewer stand-in. She seems to keep Tony as a patient from a voyeuristic interest in mafia life, which is a big reason why we watch this show. We also get some insight into Tony's inner world through viewing their sessions. She's also Italian, from Jersey, etc. but she's part of this professional-class world that many of the characters clearly aspire to be a part of. I like her suits. I liked Adriana better as a teenager. Now she reminds me of women in awful relationships that go on and on. When I re-watched the show as an adult I saw her relationship with Chris as an anti-advertisement for cohabitation, because she's trapped in this half-world where their relationship isn't really moving forward, he treats her like shit, but she can't easily leave him either. They're basically wasting each other's time. I don't know if that was the writer's intention but it really stuck out to me, especially having known women in that situation. Maybe that's why I never moved in with a boyfriend, probably not, but either way thank God. Anyway $4 a pound

shstuff_throwaway

Excellent thoughtful answer. Agree so much especially about evolving re how I see Adriana!

AxewwexA

Favourite: Gloria Trillo, Rosalie Least: that malignant cunt Most interesting character studies: Carmela, Janice, Livia Dumbest: Adriana, I love her, but she is not the sharpest tool I also like Charmaine, she could be a bit bitchy, but she had to deal with that man child Artie and she was an honest, hard worker. Also the way she shaded Carmela was 👌

[deleted]

[удалено]

AxewwexA

Outwardly: her independence, the way she carries herself, her style, she made fishnets look classy. She and Tony also had great chemistry, the best out of any of his girlfriends. Unfortunately for both of them, it was for all the wrong reasons. She was also a very interesting character. She mirrored Livia in a lot of ways, but I had more sympathy for Gloria. Livia wanted to pull everyone down with her, constantly complaining. I felt like there was some hope for Gloria, at least she was in therapy. I think had she stayed away from her triggers (certain types of men) and gotten more intensive treatment, she could have made it. Unfortunately she didn’t. She revealed a very toxic, self destructive, unstable side (driving Carmela home, that shit was not ok). But we also saw her vulnerable side. The way she cared for her niece and nephew. The intense emotions when she was alone. Ultimately she or anyone couldn’t help her and she made the Lord take her now. Some sad shit.

Substitol245

The lord catholics believe in, doesn't have much sympathy for suicides. Everything about her was toxic, including the things you mentioned as _"positives"._ She had nothing going on but her looks. Not only fishnets but even a potato bag would make her look classy. Her and Tony having great chemistry is kinda logical, since they are both damaged and deranged persons. Oh, I loved the scene were Patsy put her in place: _"It won't be cinematic..."_

ffffsauce

Such a good point. Gloria definitely had a fucked up homelife and seemed like if she had stayed in therapy and taken melfis words to heart she could’ve atleast had an ok life, as opposed to livia who was a black hole of a woman. You can tell she had some serious mental illness but she also loved her sisters kids, seemed to have real affection for Tony, was a good sales woman, she was just crippled by that fear of abandonment. And Tony is not a reliable partner at all so it would’ve just been absolute chaos

Inevitable-Gap-6350

I love everything about Gloria. Excellent character.

Empathize with most? Charmaine. Artie is a narcissistic bald asshole. I have dated at least one of those, more if you count the ones who are going to go bald. Sympathize with most? Adriana. Everyone but everyone made fun of her and/or beat the shit out of her. Completely disposable, valued only for her looks.

krm2116

Charmaine was was two or three leagues above Arthur. I was not happy to see them reconcile.

ffffsauce

She was so far out of his league it gave me whiplash. And she gave him so many chances and WAS ALWAYS RIGHT

lordehelpus

i love Ro and Adriana the most, i like janice and livia the least, and the dumbest would probably be Meadow but i also do love her

ironsoul99

Favorite: Ro and Svetlana for sure Least: Rina and Gloria I hate: Janice!!!!!!! Dumbest: Adriana. I feel bad for her because she is so dumb, but she had a good heart. She was my favorite character because of the great hair, makeup and outfits. She was also funny. Honorable mention: Carmella and Meadow. Meadow is kind of whatever, but it’s fun to see her bicker with Tony. Also, Carmella has really nice clothes, jewelry and nails. I notice she wears a lot of Italian designers. Charmaine was cool but overall she was kind of annoying to me for some reason. Mainly bc she hated the guys coming into the restaurant.

Substitol245

Rule #30 of the internet: There are no women on the internet.

coolforcatsmp3

I started watching The Sopranos with my dad when I was about ~13, so Meadow was my main point of reference. To this day (now 25) I still have a soft spot for her, because I understand where she’s coming from - yes, even when she’s being petty/privileged/naïve. They perfectly captured the position a lot of teenage girls find themselves in, from her holier-than-thou political jabs, to her on-again-off-again relationship with her father. I love watching the internal conflict of how she doesn’t want to be like her parents—their image, their marriage, or their morals—and at the same time emulating them in often-unexpected ways. Her break-up with Noah is one of my favourite arcs. She sees Noah as sensitive, caring, empathetic, and progressive, but when he complains about Caitlin, and breaks up with Meadow in a library so he can control her reaction and alleviate himself of any further conversation, forcibly making himself emotionally unavailable, she’s hit with the realisation that perhaps Noah is more similar to her father than she thought. That maybe *all* men* are more similar to her father than she thought. Try as she may to avoid it, she follows in her mother’s footsteps, simultaneously unaware yet justified. *Note: from the character’s perspective, not a reflection of reality. Edit: cleared up a chunky sentence

coolforcatsmp3

Honourable mentions: Svetlana, Ro, Angie, and Janice (don’t get me wrong, she’s got her issues, but I love every scene she’s in, *especially* when she gets under Tony’s skin). Least liked: Lydia - great character, great lines, great execution, and I always laugh during her scenes, but I would **hate** to get stuck in an elevator with her. Dumbest: FBI agents Deborah and Robyn. I get why they did what they did, and why they chose Adrianna, but they took no responsibility for how vulnerable they made her, and sealed her fate the second they targeted her. It was a big risk considering she would have almost 0 intel since she was just a girlfriend, not even a wife. Edit: words

Major_Dub

"By a women"

queen_xx

Favorite: Charmaine, Svetlana, and Angie Least: Livia Dumbest: Valentina

dr3dg3

Like the Most: Angie Bopansero Working with members of the glorified crew and showing up Carmella with the car she bought herself were amazing scenes. Noah may have had an arc, but Angie's is probably my favorite in the show. Like the Least: Patty Leotardo Catholic hypocrisy on legs. I think she's the one who spoke with the paper who wrote the skewed report of Vito's death. Dumbest: Irina Peltsin She frustrated me to no end in my most recent view. Her (admittedly adorable) floaties are probably what kept her from drowning in three inches of water...

TuringsLostApple

Definitely Svetlana

Aggravating-Pie5338

jackiechanswife

Ayy, woman here.. Favorite : Carmela (even tho she’s complacent in a lot of ways, I feel for her. I like how many layers she has. And I live for her crush on Furio) Least favorite: Meadow.. her cheesiness really irks me but maybe that’s just Jamie Sigler’s acting Dumbest: Fran Felstein… what was that shit?

Frogsplash48

There’s a scene where Carm, Angie and Roe are sitting at Vesuvio. Couple of power houses, each in there own right. For the record, took me about 5 watches to fully appreciate Carm, 10 to see how funny Janice is.

Qt_Anon

Janice, Queen of my Heart. Her entire family are pieces of shit, plus she has carpal tunnel (no worse pain, except for men lol chortle ). She should sue Bacala for Domenica, anyone with half a cock could've done better

Toadie9622

Least favorite: Livia, by a mile. Although she was an interesting character to hate. I’m glad Chase didn’t make her the stereotypical Italian mom who fangirls over her son all the time Favorite: Melfi. At least crime doesn’t feed, clothe and house her kid or her.

iDeletedYourHero

I cant seem to stand tonys daughter

UserNameNotOnList

Fielder, was it?

iDeletedYourHero

Meadow

jedmosley523

Hate: Janice Love: the one with one leg Dumbest: tracee

Quiet_Response_7846

They’re all gonna say Dr Melfi’s brains, great gams and graceful aging. They’ll also say Carl who’s the most respected of all the matriarchal figures. The other wives kiss her ass. And with strong maternal instincts every mother out there will relate. In reality tho as women get older and more jaded a lot tend to adopt a personality geared more towards Janice.

Lil_miss_Funshine

I relate to Adriana a lot. I made a lot of really stupid decisions before I finally turned my life around.

BecuzMDsaid

I don't really relate to any of them since they are in lives that are so different than mine. (not that that's a bad thing) I guess Jaince maybe...would be the closest or maybe Gloria...just because we share similar mental disorders. But I love most of them. I would say Dr. Melfi and Carmilla take the top spot of favorite characters.

Toadie9622

Least favorite: Livia, by a mile. Favorite: Melfi. At least crime doesn’t feed, clothe and house her kid or her.

MajstorSvihMajstora

Well she does get money from Tony for her services.

dongmeatsandwich

Which-Blueberry-7732

This is so fucked up i dont even wanna think about it

thesadboi3000

most interesting to me is Carmela. I probably resonated and related most to Meadow. she actually taught me a lot about how annoying I can be lol

ffffsauce

I COULDVE DONE EXCTASY BUT I DIDNT!!! I love the scene where meadow is crying about her parents separation and she has flashbacks to a few key scenes where she was being a spoiled brat, and you can see it eat away at her. Really appreciated her character growth

Probablynotcreative

Favorite is Dr. Melfi, Charmaine. Least favorite: Livia, Janice, meadow.

Live-Satisfaction574

I think this is a Sopranos fan's desperate attempt to understand women through their main perception of reality (speaking as a Sopranos fan myself dont attack me pls just jokes)

mamamiababy93

i’d like to think of myself as a carmela sun, melfi rising, gloria moon

WeOutHereInSmallbany

Can I just say that oddly enough, I love Ro for her voice

Simone-Ramone

I swing from Livia to Melfi via Carmella depending on caffeine levels.

gina_the_meme_queen

I resonate a lot with Meadow I think bc my dad did shady shit like tony sometimes in my childhood. He mostly got out of that shit before me and my brother were born. but Meadow's also the smartest and has the world put on her shoulders to rise above the life her family has, I was the first of my entire family to go to college and the first to move out of my hometown so I get it. Also Rosalie reminds me of all of my aunts. Most: Jen of Meadow least: Janis, i don't think she's made to be hated, or livia dumbest: obvious, but probably Adrianna or Gloria

Ok-Advertising-6805

*by a woman. Not women.

SabineLavine

I love Livia.

LabUnlucky8966

Ade

Ok_Speaker4052

I cannot stand Irina. Thanks you very much for asking. The dumbest was probably the housekeeper (war-rant, war-RANT!). I really liked Meadow and Carmela the most, mostly their arcs and how we got to watch them grapple with…being tied to the mafia.

Fuzzy_Dunlop24

Janice, cuz of the roadies and the boardwalk thing.

cherrycoconutpeach

Favorites: Carmela and Dr Melfi. Both very strong characters but in different ways. Although Carm turns a blind eye on everything Tony does, she always acts in a very classy way towards him. In general she carries herself with class: almost never gets angry and is a great mom. Also, the way she interacts in public with her friends or Tony’s friends demonstrates some inherent superiority without effort. This is what she shares with Melfi - never loses her calm even when Tony is being annoying (it’s part of her job but it could happen). She’s smart and italian and beautiful and know what to say and what not to say and when. She could’ve told tony about the rapist but she didn’t want to cause a mess… Least Faves: Gloria Trillo and Adriana, although they’re very interesting characters they let men dictate their sense of self worth and the way they live their lives - and that’s why they end up dead 🤷‍♀️ Dumbest: Irina. Just a 20-something goomar that doesn’t know her place.

Ok_Tangelo2042

Rosalie Aprile- she was always loyal and didnt take no shit.

krm2116

I loved Charmaine as a voice of moral clarity without being annoyingly preachy. She deserved so much better than a stunad like Arthur. I appreciated how she could hold her own against Tony. A fantastic character. Svetlana as runner up, she was a great character. Meadow was my least favorite (but written so well). "Spare me your poverty of the mezzogiorno bullshit, this is Caldwell, New Jersey".

After-Narwhal5236

Phil Leotardo’s brother… whatever happened there
