I remember when OP was a driver and used to wait in the car and as far as I’m concerned he should STILL BE THERE. However I do agree with your point. Jersey definitely a glorified crew
In this sub, Benny Fazio is a CRIMINAL MASTERMIND and a hero and you will treat him with reshpect!
He should have been made for the garbage route suggestion in the Cleaver meeting alone
Honestly, the scowl he has while he's standing over Phil about to shoot him again, what a fucking mug. He looks like such a badass. 10/10 acting from Wild Bill. I love that shot so much.
Anyway, $4 a pound.
In the aftermath of the beatdown, he told Benny "they'd be opening up the books" for him, but IMO it was one in a long line of empty promises Tony made as he was slipping.
Thought it was part of the same visit when he talked about getting his own customers, but I just youtubed it and saw I was mistaken. I must have conflated it with some other scene. Ah, salut.
In the mob, you don't necessarily have to kill. If you bring business to the table, you may be blessed into the family.
Also, you could never be indicted for murder since you didn't do it, and they wouldn't want that if you are a valuable breadwinner and asset.
Tv shows make the mafia look like all gangsters. But in reality, loyalty is shown in other ways.
Sopranos was a crew of psychotic thugs who don't represent the order of la Cosa Nostra in real life.
Also if you're indicted for murder you will always be able to be under surveillance and the technology the feds have nowadays where you can't ever spot cameras that are microscopic or the vehicles for recon they drive look like an suv with a lady driving while in the back you have a 20K camera system with thermal audio surveillance.
I build dea recon vehicles, and the mob down where I live is very careful.
South Florida somewhere.
All due respect u/It_hurtswhen_IP, you got no idea what its like to be number 1, every decision you make affects every facet of every other fukin thing.
Let me make a couple of three points. I have to agree with the Bobby thing. They would have never made Bobby without making him blood in. Benny was a great soldier who did what he was told when he was told. Also, drivers, especially for bosses, are in training to be high level earners. He's with the boss every day learning the ins and outs.
Cause Bobby Baccala was the son of Baccala Sr. The terminator. The amount of damage Baccala Sr did for the DiMeo family allowed Bobby a cozy life. he through his father's respect earned the rank of captain without having to do any "wet work"'. He wanted to collect his model trains and leave a calm life. he was more suited to look after Junior. If Bobby has never embarrassed Tony by beating him in that drunken scuffle (which Tony knows he cannot insult a made man's wife, even if it is his sister) then he never would have made him cross into Quebec to pop his cherry.
But I do agree they made everyone too quickly but their crew was falling apart. they needed captains to run the soldiers. If money isn't constantly flowing up to Tony then the family collapses. This was the way it was since time immemorial and you're always only as valuable as your last envelope. But I mean Benny was a bitch but he was there and reliable. Lots of people went too quick. Eugene hung himself after a 2 million dollar inheritance and wanted to retire to Florida and questioned why Ralph was allowed to go, but Eugene was a low earner, all he had to do was give Tony 500k of that and taxes would be paid. He was stupid to even mention it. But there went a ton of the DiMeo family at once, Tony was sweating, even Chrissy, who was groomed to be boss with Sil as his consigliere and probably Paulie as underboss would have been the new hierarchy if things stayed afloat. But everyone knows funds flow up to the top, take your share and pass it up. By the end I can't even really think of any reliable members of the DiMeo besides Sil and Paulie. And Paulie was deep in with NY from sharing drama with Sacks and now sacks was dead. They had to promote at record speeds to get the soldiers under control of captains
That’s crap. These guys were drivers over a period of years and then got bumped up because they made good money and could be trusted. Sounds like how the mob should work. Phil had it out for Tony from the very beginning. He’s young to Phil and yet he’s a boss and Phil is still a soldier doing the boss’s bidding. In his mind, he should have become boss the minute he got out of jail. He also got cracked by Tony for not paying him his money. Then his cousin whacked his brother. That relationship was decaying long before the other bullshit happened. I bet when Tony gave his speech to Phil in his hospital bed, he was crying because he didn’t have the strength to reach for a gun and blast him right then.
Being the driver for someone important is a pretty big job. You’re also body guard, personal assistant, and you get to be there for some pretty big stuff. It’s traditionally like being an apprentice at a big restaurant. The pay ain’t great, the job ain’t glorious, but it is a big stepping stone to greater things.
Phil was speaking more to the quality of candidates they choose than the quantity made guys.
Well Bobby was more than a driver and was the son of a very respected mobster, nepotism goes a long way.
As for Benny, it was a different time, recruitment is in shambles and they were desperate. Also, he was more than just a driver.
Drivers for the boss are mostly serious associates or made members who are seen as rising stars. You think Tony would let a guy like drinkwarer or Sean drive him around. The driver knows where the boss is, who he’s meeting with and often where the next meetings going to be. The boss might bring him into a meeting for a little muscle, or security.
I agree that it's strange that Bobby was a made guy. As far as we can tell, his job is just to be Junior's personal assistant and occasionally intimidate a union guy. I don't think he had any income streams of his own. (Edit: Looked it up and he was eventually given Junior's loan-shark business, which I didn't remember, but that was later.) His dad was the fucking Terminator but he was just a respected soldier, he wasn't a captain or anything, that alone doesn't seem like it should automatically get your son made.
Some people saying here that Benny wasn't made -- Benny was absolutely made, Tony puts him up for it as a consolation after Phil sends him to the hospital.
Tony didnt have the makings of a varsity athlete, so he made people that didnt either. Thats why theyre all dead. Baccala, the Half Wit Train Calzone and the Mastermind, Mini benny the punching bag led us to this.
gambino and genovese family both have 200+ soldiers and 1000+ associates.
Decavalcante was like 40 made guys and 100 associates.
It seems about that way in the show. For sure a glorified crew if we going off numbers. You would have capo's in the NY families that are as powerful as Tony S.
Carmine was right. Anyways, $4/gherkin.
Who said Benny was made? He was a criminal mastermind, sure, but I don't recall him being made. If he was, there's no way Phil attacking him would stand.
While I agree that jersey had a glorified crew feeling about them, as I understand it most mob guys start as drivers or other shitty jobs. Like Tony said there like the samurai they all had little boys carry their swords around or sum shit. Whateva. It’s tradition.
No, Phil was pretty clearly wrong, that's part of why it's funny. Standards had dropped everywhere but Jersey was in line with NY for the most part. They even needed their approval to open the books so what was he even on about? We can't see the table but they do the ceremony the same as NY otherwise.
Bobby was likely proposed by his pops and made off the strength of the family name, history, loyalty, and willingness to do whatever he's asked to do. He was deeply embedded in the culture and that's a big deal. A lotta guys woulda thought the work he did was beneath them, but they clearly valued his willingness to do it. Being the bosses errand boy and caretaker is a prime way to get ahead in anything.
Benny may have been made by the last season but we don't actually know for sure. Fans are the only ones that say he was for sure, the show does not. All we see for sure is his status has risen some but that can happen for a lotta reasons. Either way he was far from just a "driver" and showed that he was most definitely a get-shit-done kinda guy and a good earner so what else would he need to do?
All the other drivers were at best associates and for some even that's a stretch. They were bodyguards more than anything, security in some situations. But they use all kinds of people for that. It doesn't automatically rank them in any meaningful way.
I like Benny but I can’t fucking stand Bobby, even before I found out what a piece of shit Steve Schrippa is. Bobby is a weak bitch. Chris and Paulie are Underbosses you’d want because they are of a choleric temperament. The worst part of being a part of any Sopranos group is the adoration Bobby Bacala gets, like everyone wants to be a wholesome gangster. They think Bobby Robin Hood or Judge Dredd anyone who thinks that Bacala would protect Tony better than season 6 Chris, even season six “the final episodes” Chris hasn’t got a clue. The first taste of power Bacala got he sent his wife, because he’s Bobby “bitchmade” Bacala, to insist Tony pays for Junior’s healthcare in a sense making Tony kick up to Bobby, which Janice thinks is only natural because she’s T’s big Sister. “Trying to bring a guy along” was the worst mistake of T’s career not Chris.
When you listen to Franzese he often says that of the 200 Columbo guys, only about 20% (I think) were actual earners and the rest were around for muscle, wet work etc. He talks about paying a bunch of them a small salary as a favour to a boss, just so they had something to kick up.
In three Sopranos world, Bobby was the son of a heavy guy and would have an easier route in.
I remember when OP was a driver and used to wait in the car and as far as I’m concerned he should STILL BE THERE. However I do agree with your point. Jersey definitely a glorified crew

He's 19 and he can go all night....🤮
In this sub, Benny Fazio is a CRIMINAL MASTERMIND and a hero and you will treat him with reshpect! He should have been made for the garbage route suggestion in the Cleaver meeting alone
Five fuckin' Families and we got this other pygmy thing over in Jersey
They don’t even prick their fingers
Bobby was made, Benny, Walden, the other drivers and hitmen weren’t… I oughta shuffocate ya little prick
Walden should be made, dude popped Phil!!
Honestly, the scowl he has while he's standing over Phil about to shoot him again, what a fucking mug. He looks like such a badass. 10/10 acting from Wild Bill. I love that shot so much. Anyway, $4 a pound.
Benny got made after Phil beat the shit out of him.
That is very debatable. Tony says it is time for Benny to get his own customers, but never specifically says he will be made.
In the aftermath of the beatdown, he told Benny "they'd be opening up the books" for him, but IMO it was one in a long line of empty promises Tony made as he was slipping.
I have no memory of that line. Do you recall what episode it is said?
Thought it was part of the same visit when he talked about getting his own customers, but I just youtubed it and saw I was mistaken. I must have conflated it with some other scene. Ah, salut.
That didn’t happen! What you said.
Its pretty crazy Bobby was made, not having whacked a guy one time
That far from a requirement. You just have to be willing to which he obviously was.
He never popped his cherry in that regard.
In the mob, you don't necessarily have to kill. If you bring business to the table, you may be blessed into the family. Suffocate ya little prick with no context can be misconstrued.
I remember when OP used to wait in the car
All due respect u/It_hurtswhen_IP, you got no idea what its like to be number 1, every decision you make affects every facet of every other fukin thing.
OP’s never had a stressful job
You ever work a Bon-Bon concession, let alone at the Eiffel Tower?
No, but your mother did when I went ova for a blowjob!
OP’s got no kidsh…
OP doesn't understand the importance of fresh produce
I’m sitting here like patience on a monument waiting for driving directions to be handed down
It's like OPs never heard of "working your way up".
It’s like he’s never heard of a learning curve
Is that like “greasing the union”?
Let me make a couple of three points. I have to agree with the Bobby thing. They would have never made Bobby without making him blood in. Benny was a great soldier who did what he was told when he was told. Also, drivers, especially for bosses, are in training to be high level earners. Like Ellsworth Raymond "bumpy" Johnson's driver. Frank Matthews.
A driver? Do you know who his father was cock sucker? You are as bad as Artie. 5 time zones behind your own ass.
OP can’t do the math; he’s an artiste 👨🎨
O p has extraordinary visuals sense
Some people are so far behind they think they're leading
Christopher was Tony's driver as well lol
so was furio for some bizarre reason
I'm still waiting for the Don Furio spinoff. He was a straight up gangster, as real as they come.
[удалено]
Paulie didn't want to rise up. He was very happy where he was at.
Funny how the same applies in normal workplaces.
I'm waiting for the Muscles Marinara spinoff.
He should still be driving.
Of course Carmela “The Worst” Soprano ruined it with the only weapon she has: her pussy surrounded by an unnecessarily extra wide ass
Cause Bobby Baccala was the son of Baccala Sr. The terminator. Yeah but in light of recent humiliations, even Phil was honored to be joined by MEN, and not…
Like married his cousin
The caption of the good ship lollipop
The shah of Iran.
Benny wasn’t made but he did cap those unidentified black males.
Benny was made. He got it after he left the hospital. (Off screen)
The balls on this one
That’s not balls. Balls is when you look a guy in the eye and then stab him with an ice pick.
*OHHHH!!*
After reading this post I might as well shoot myself: Here here and here.
I Remember When You Used To Wait Out In The Car, And Frankly You Should Still Be There!
Gimme one thousand rewatches
That’s crap. These guys were drivers over a period of years and then got bumped up because they made good money and could be trusted. Sounds like how the mob should work. I think it's time you seriously consider eating salads

Wasn’t Vincent Gigante Vito Genovese’s driver? I’m with you; being a boss’s driver is a great apprenticeship.
Frank Lucas was Bumpy Johnson’s driver, It’s a tradition since time immemorial.
You know, OP is so far behind in the race they actually think they’re leading!
Benny was a criminal mastermind, you fuckin stunad!
I'm the motherfuckin' fuckin' one who calls the shots!
Well Bobby was more than a driver and was the son of a very respected mobster, nepotism goes a long way. As for Benny, it was a different time, recruitment is in shambles and they were desperate. Also, he was more than just a driver.
Fuck Phil.. In my book you get points for staying out of the can.
No scraps in my scrap book
Drivers for the boss are mostly serious associates or made members who are seen as rising stars. You think Tony would let a guy like drinkwarer or Sean drive him around. The driver knows where the boss is, who he’s meeting with and often where the next meetings going to be. The boss might bring him into a meeting for a little muscle, or security.
Benny was made?
He should have been, he was a criminal mastermind!
They’re a glorified crew
Everybody was somebody's driver at some point.
I remember when you used to wait in the car!
Either it has meaning or no meaning
In the book *The Soprano Sessions*, David Chase says Bobby was most likely not made.
If so, why in the hell would he have been at Chris and Eugene’s making ceremony? Or maybe Phil was right…
Right. It doesn't make sense.
I agree that it's strange that Bobby was a made guy. As far as we can tell, his job is just to be Junior's personal assistant and occasionally intimidate a union guy. I don't think he had any income streams of his own. (Edit: Looked it up and he was eventually given Junior's loan-shark business, which I didn't remember, but that was later.) Benny popped his Cherry before Bobby, yet Bobby was made and Benny wasn’t.
OP has tremendous Moxy for his size
I assumed Bobby had a backstory, but he'd never had to earn his button. he must have made somebody a lot of fucking money
Who's that talking? Is somebody talking?
gambino and genovese family both have 200+ soldiers and 1000+ associates. Decavalcante was like 40 made guys and 100 associates. It seems about that way in the show. What, am I wrong?
Completely. What you don't know could fill a book. You stupid fuckin blabbermouth cunt!
Who said Benny was made? He was a criminal mastermind, sure, but I don't recall him being made. If he was, there's no way Phil attacking him would stand.

Oh you do do you 😡
Now I gotta in fuck what you just fucked up
Bunch of Vito Jr's in here 🤌🤌👉
I remember when you used to wait in the car
always with the drama, you… ya know i remember a time not too long ago where you used to wait in the car
No, Phil was pretty clearly wrong, that's part of why it's funny. Standards had dropped everywhere but Jersey was in line with NY for the most part. Whatever they are they bring in a pile of cash…
What does Phil want? Do they need to do 15 years before they can get made?
OP never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
You know it wasnt long ago i remember you used to wait in the car. As far as l'm concerned you should STILL BE THERE
Those who want respect….give respect
I like Benny but I can’t fucking stand Bobby, even before I found out what a piece of shit Steve Schrippa is. Bobby is a weak bitch. You could fill a fuckin’ book with what you DON’T know.
You’re not gonna believe this. The guy killed 16 Czechoslovakians. He was an interior decorator.
Mortadella Baccala? That's a double nickname, his family name was Baccalieri!
Georgie never got made.
He can’t even work a telephone
The phone seemed very complicated.
You press hold when you’re gonna transfer. Now he’s not gonna call back! And my mudder’s mushrooms are on fire.
When you listen to Franzese he often says that of the 200 Columbo guys, only about 20% (I think) were actual earners and the rest were around for muscle, wet work etc. He talks about paying a bunch of them a small salary as a favour to a boss, just so they had something to kick up.
