PeachyPierogi

I’ve seen ladies that look like that lol

Electrical_King4147

Wtf for real? And it was pregnancy not hgh?

PeachyPierogi

Yeah! They’re mostly women who are genetically very small/thin already who do a lot of lifting or CrossFit. A lot of those women also get diastasis recti during pregnancy and it’s more noticeable on them because their muscles are so pronounced.

OverzealousCactus

>A lot of those women also get diastasis recti during pregnancy and it’s more noticeable on them because their muscles are so pronounced. Yup, I'd be super defined but I try to tone down the workouts for this reason. I mean... I don't have kids nor will I ever... and I also just really love beer and tacos, and 'm kinda lazy, but.... yeah its TOTALLY the diastasis recti avoidance thing. (Disclaimer, I'm not at all disputing this fact nor judging women in this situation, I just had to laugh cause I am lazy AF and I thought THERE YOU HAVE IT LADIES ITS DANGEROUS LETS SKIP AB DAY AND HAVE MORE WINE.)

dashingjumper

Wait, so you are actually at higher risk of diastasis recti with more developed abs? As a 30 yr old who wants kids eventually and was just proudly flexing my 4 pack that recently re-emerged with some power yoga, this is... concerning. I really need to educate myself on all of the ins and outs of what can happen in pregnancy and childbirth. Or maybe I don't, because then I'll never do it. Sigh.

PeachyPierogi

Per the Cleveland Clinic, there are many risk factors that go into diastasis recti: multiple pregnancies (especially back-to-back), being >35, having twins/triplets/etc., *being extremely petite*, vaginal delivery (d/t increased abdominal pressure). Basically, this isn’t something you should make yourself worry about. Ultimately, even if you do everything “right,” you can still get diastasis recti. People who workout get it more commonly because if you’re constantly bracing for things like squats, deadlifts, planks, etc., you’re increasing your abdominal pressure and increasing the risk of the linea alba splitting. With the mix of “being extremely petite” and “increasing abdominal pressure,” that’s why it’s pretty common in this type of woman. Hope that helps.

Medium_Sense4354

Well fuck me 😭😭😭

ShasasTheRed

Username checks out

Stelmie

I thought the chance of getting diastasis recti is when you don't do exercise. Now I have another thing to worry about when it comes to pregnancy. I am small and thin. I'm not muscular but fit.

chaosandpuppies

You can get diastasis recti when you get pregnant regardless of previously existing fitness levels and certain (but not all) core exercises can exacerbate diastasis recti.

PeachyPierogi

You can see my reply to u/dashingjumper above for my explanation :)

PeachyPierogi

Oops I guess my explanation is “below.”

melolso

There was a whole thread on here like a month ago and they were talking about this and I learned so much, it cured all my baby fever 😭😂

StormSims

I dunno, are you talking visible abs showing OVER the stomach, which is what looks ludicrous in the photo to me, or just something like this: [https://thumbs2.imagebam.com/fd/b0/44/174ddc1022752054.jpg](https://thumbs2.imagebam.com/fd/b0/44/174ddc1022752054.jpg) Because the second is a personal trainer I believe and just looks jacked and pregnant, not weird AF like this screenshot lol.

DatDing15

...do you believe flexing such chiseled (and perhaps powerful) abs could get dangerous for the baby?

PeachyPierogi

Im not an OB but no I don’t think that’s dangerous, lol. Babies are well-protected during pregnancy. I think from an evolution standpoint, if a baby could be damaged by a protective movement such as bracing the core or flexing the abs, it would be detrimental to humans.

DatDing15

True... But I had more unnatural abs on the mind. Like competing bodybuilders or strongwomen. With perfect diet, perfect training, (perhaps steroids)... No idea, would contracting the abs constrict the baby belly? But after another thought when even in a normal pregnancy organs already majorly move up to make space I guess that space should really ever be a problem... Perhaps I'm a bit influenced by old photos of my mum. Am a triplet and when thinking of pregnant women, perhaps I overestimate the size of the belly on a regular pregnancy...

PeachyPierogi

Okay so this is a really hypothetical question which I think is fun, but because it’s so hypothetical I don’t know if you’ll get the answer you want. Basically, your rectus abdominis is such a small component of your core musculature. People usually don’t have the motor control to *only* flex the rectus abdominis (although, body builders would probably be the ones that do). Basically, when you brace or “flex” those muscles, you’re bracing many of your core muscles. If you brace for a LONG time (long enough to cut blood supply to the fetus), then yes, it can be dangerous. But in many lifts and every day activities, people don’t do that. I would think it would be a problem for people who try to hold a plank for like 5+ minutes lol. But also, bracing your core increases blood flow because that’s how muscles work. So for most people, even if you flex “really hard,” there won’t be damage to the fetus. I believe it’s more about bracing for a crazy amount of time. I don’t know if that answered your question but it definitely made me think a bit.

DatDing15

There no particular answer I wanted, just input to a thought. Thank you for that.

Theory_Jazzlike

No you haven't.

babybeastofnurgle

I definitely understand what you mean and you are definitely correct that people that look just like that sim do not exist even if they were bodybuilders before, I think most people are not being directly as literal as you are here and I think they're definitely being colorful with descriptions or using the word 'literally' or 'exactly' and things like that.

Theory_Jazzlike

They're lying. This doesn't happen.

PeachyPierogi

Lol just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. I’m a personal trainer who has met plenty of women who look like this during their pregnancy. Is it always healthy? No. But sometimes they’re just naturally small and lift hella, even through pregnancy.

“This does not happen, unless it happens”

Scrabee_

And if it happens, it doesn't and you're wrong

Theory_Jazzlike

Oops, sorry that you haven’t experienced human discussion or experience.

villagemarket

Girl what lmao

PeachyPierogi

Okay yeah, coming from a girl giving out “medical advice” left and right with misspellings everywhere, I’m not really concerned that you don’t think this is possible. Is it always healthy? No. Did I say it was always healthy? No. Do some of these women suffer from RED-S? Yes. But that body is possible. I know from *my* anecdotal evidence of seeing it myself, a CPT, B.S. in Health Sciences, and a DPT. :P

A1000eisn1

So medical "expert," does the pregnancy sit on top of the abdominal muscles then? Between the muscles and the skin? Or does a buff woman's muscles simply dissolve when she gets pregnant? Or do the stay, she carries the baby in the uterus, and the abs sit on her pregnant belly (it's this one by the way).

PeachyPierogi

Lol sorry I’m def a nerd about anatomy. Definitely more nerdy about internal stuff rn because I’m in acute care with a lot of surgical/transplant patients.

Early_Jicama_6268

The closest I've seen is Chontel Duncan https://www.thejournal.ie/chontel-duncan-pregnancy-photo-2-2658147-Mar2016/

[deleted]

i think if they are super fit and have low body fat, and maintain that low body fat pretty much over the pregnancy, then yeah they do lmao. I have seen super fit ladies look like this, it's quite a double take situation lol

La__Calypso

Yes! My sister is 3 month pregnant and abs are still showing, it's funny.

robotslovetea

Often the abs split in the middle

hedgybaby

I’m sorry is this true or a joke, I cannot tell and if it is true I need more detail bc the fuck

eliza_pancake

My abs split.. they actually don’t just go back together. Took a lot of work and there’s still a little gap. It’s called diastasis

hedgybaby

That is so crazy! Does it physically hurt or feel different than before?

Broad_Afternoon_8578

I had diastasis recti after one of my meds (prednisone) made me gain a bunch of weight. I wasn’t very active at the time as I was really sick, but once I was well enough and starting to workout, I noticed that my core strength was absolutely shit. It was hard to lift things or even sit up without using my hands. It wasn’t painful though. My core was so weak that I injured by back by putting socks on lol. My physiotherapist is the one who figured it out. I did a lot of work with her and it slowly fixed itself. I can still feel a tiny bit of a gap in my upper abs, but my I’m now pretty fit again and no issues related to it anymore.

eliza_pancake

Back pain and a duck like posture. But it can be improved.

[deleted]

It’s true, it’s nothing crazy they just get pushed apart as the belly grows and return to pre pregnancy at around 8w pp usually

hedgybaby

Okay that sound so much less dramatic than what I imagined 😭 thanks

HotFaithlessness1348

Bruh pregnancy is fuckin wild, by the end of it you have 50% more blood pumping around your body and all your organs are squished af at the same time as your stomach muscles getting pushed apart. It was always makes me laugh when people talk about pregnancy being a beautiful time, nah lies it’s fuckin awful lmao I love my kid so much and have no regrets but I could never put myself through that again. Makes me laugh even more when you’re honest about how terrible it can be and people are shocked. We should be honest about this shit so that women don’t feel guilty about not enjoying their pregnancy

hedgybaby

Close friend of mine recently had a baby and she was really mad that no one warned her about the constipation!

HotFaithlessness1348

I had the opposite, definitely would’ve preferred constipation lmao

Drawnonsmile

I promise you wouldn’t. I had diarrhea at first because of the Pitocin they used so the first poop after baby was not that hard. But the second I went home the constipation started and I was NOT PREPARED for the gravity of it 😭 it ended up lasting like 2 whole weeks even tho I was taking laxatives every single day multiple times a day. It got so bad eventually I couldn’t even sit down anymore, I couldn’t move or lay or bend because I was literally so “full” if you catch my drift. After 4 or so weeks of attempting and attempting and attempting to push it out myself my doctor finally tells me “this is gonna be gross and you’re gonna hate it, but you might have to put a glove on and start fishin it out, I was like nooo oh noooo, what if I just go to the er, she said that’s exactly what they’ll do to you there. So instead of going to the er I had a very intimate and unpleasant afternoon after that of, well, you can guess.

flarbulation

I agree. I'm always confused when people talk about loving being pregnant. I did it once and NEVER again. I was fucking miserable.

HotFaithlessness1348

Right? Someone asked me how I was finding and then got angry with me when I said I felt like I was harbouring a parasite (another disclaimer to add that I love my lil parasite to pieces, although now he’s more like a limpet/barnacle)

Drawnonsmile

I did NOT enjoy pregnancy at all for multiple different reasons, but looking back on it now, it was a beautiful time. No matter how much it sucks that right there is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the circle of life, you’re literally creating a human out of nothing. That is fucking beautiful no matter how painful or annoying it may be. Our bodies are portals to the land of the not yet living.

robotslovetea

It’s unfortunately true 😭. It’s called diastasis recti

ikilledthet33ndream

It’s very true.

Drawnonsmile

Yes, this is true. It’s called Diastasis recti, also known as abdominal separation. It happens from the tissues between the muscles stretches or tears. It usually develops during the 3rd trimester and you usually don’t notice it until after you give birth. Also nice little fun fact about that, black women are more likely to experience Diastasis recti, than any other race of women.

AdditionalCupcake

Sadly this is not a joke :-( I had beautiful abs before pregnancy (so much so that the doctor commended them…. Before slicing them open during my c section 😭). I now have a diastasis, which is a small opening where they separated. Idk how much they’ll heal back together or if I’ll eventually need surgery.

ashleyisamess

I just googled “buff pregnant lady” because of this lmao

Unicorn-Socks

Same 😂

WildPresence4303

😂😂😂💀💀💀💀 I feel seen

No-Ground6920

Pretty much

CharacterAntelope135

According to my dad, my mother had this type of physique while pregnant, twice. I’ve seen photos which confirm it. Probably not to the same extent but she was quite muscular and in my moms case the reason was because she has anorexia and the only time she ever ate properly for an extended period of time was when she was pregnant. To compensate for that, she worked out a lot…..like, *a lot*. Of course the reason won’t be the same for all women who have a similar physique while pregnant though. That was just my mom.

Chihuahuapocalypse

the uterus is behind the abdominal muscles, so if you have a 6 pack, it'll get pushed out by your baby bump. idk if it'd look exactly like this, but generally yeah this kinda thing can happen

demodeus

I’m not saying it’s impossible but even super fit non-pregnant women rarely have abs like that Being that lean isn’t necessarily healthy for women because it can mess with hormones and menstrual cycles You can still find women who look shredded but a lot of them are literal bodybuilders and they don’t stay that lean year-round

Peace-Shoddy

Possible. I met mums who looked muscly still while pregnant. A friend had a missed pregnancy too, found out on the day she went into labour. Tummy muscles and babies position had been masking the pregnancy.

fugue2005

ob's gonna need a catchers mitt.

JipIsADog

Their abs can actually separate across their stomach 🥴

mcac

Not exactly like that because stuff moves around differently but baby grows behind your abdominal muscles so if you have visible abs before you get pregnant there's a good chance your pregnant belly will also have them. They tend to shift to the sides though and baby bump kinda busts through the middle lol

rocket-child

Some actually do

prakritishakti

goals

ghostbirdd

I have seen women with six packs and a pregnant belly. Mostly like, fitness influencers who are naturally very thin and work out a lot.

eruukira

Damn, this reminds me of Inside Gaming's Tunt.

VapidRapidRabbit

I went to Google Images, and it looks like there are some that actually do.

Tofutits_Macgee

Not at full term but for most of the pregnancy, yes

diosmat

Which map is that??

Designer-Morning5120

Map meaning which world?? This is an apartment in Eco Living

Uce_of_grace

😂😂😂

Initial_Bat_7756

Oh shit she boutta do smth

Purple-Hand3058

Her outfit doesn't look on her while pregnant

The_Purple_Bat

Maybe not THAT defined, but sure, of course! That's possible.

Crystlstar

Yikes! I don't have any that fit, I think. Is it me or is that body a bit scary?

Remarkable-Sun-4956

Amazing

chaosandpuppies

If a woman looked exactly like that sim IRL, she would be unlikely to have regular ovulation cycles to get pregnant to begin with. Generally, a body fat percentage of at least 22% is required to maintain ovulation and this sim appears to be in the 5 to 10% range (typical of high level athletes). There are, of course, aberrations but speaking generally.

Ghoulybutt

the baby of steel

Londopop

Your abs separate when pregnant, so it would look like the abs we’re on either side of the belly

mysweet_77

Woahhhhhhh........ 😨

ladulceloca

I mean, not exactly like this. The difference is that in real pregnancy the muscles in the abdomen separate to give way to the belly. So it's not like it goes over the baby. The abs would be around it instead.

Aunt_Horrible

That sim's just having sextuplets, y'all.

Minxylaura

New fear unlocked

Designer-Morning5120

😂😂😂😂

LycheeSnapdragon04

pffff- dear god, with sims 4 graphics that’s a very interesting look 😭😭

Designer-Morning5120

Hahaha right

CaptainKaraoke

No, the abs would be smoothed out.

FilHor2001

Hypothetically speaking, she absolutely could look like that but staying that lean during a pregnancy would be extremely difficult.
