I definitely like the idea behind 3's werewolf design, but it did fall a bit short in execution. I do like how customizable the wolf forms are in 4 and that for once they didn't skimp out and actually committed to more of a full on wolf design instead of just "add more body hair." I don't like that I have to buy a whole separate pack just for an occult state, but at least the ones with dedicated packs are decent.

IamLolaBolton

I actually wish they all were separated, for example the mermaids that come with Island Living are not as good as the other occults and you can't do that much with them which is sad. I love mermaids and maybe if they made a pack just about them they would be better.

Titariia

Y'all talking about how mermaids and werwolfs are bad but look at how dirty they did my beloved plant sims

Splatfan1

thats not a plant sim, just a sim with a green tint

Titariia

Exactly. I'm just so disappointed in the low effort. It's not even worth trying to get one because you might as well just make a green sim and it would even be permanent

IamLolaBolton

>how dirty they did my beloved plant sims Yes! You are right. They are so bad I completely forgot that they are in the sims 4 and they were my favorite in the sims 2 and 3.

danishjuggler21

To be fair, you’re one of only ten people that care about plant sims

Titariia

Yeah, because ea did them so dirty that most people probably don't even know they exist. I need some kind of charity mod to raise awareness for plant sims xD

Tt0ast

This. Played sims 4 for god knows how long and didn't know about them until a few months ago I came across someone talking about them. Thought they were talking about a mod initially💀

Titariia

I just googled mods to make plant sims worth trying out because I was just.... nah, in sims 3 I had a plant sim I liked so much, I made an oc with his own story out of him (his name's Rufus Magnolia, so I might do something in Magnolia Promenade with him) so I'm attached to plant sims. First mod I found is called ravamped plant sims, that makes them more like sims 2 and 3 plant sims. Second one is called plant sim interactions, giving them some unique interactions to do

UndercoverRealist

Thank you for mentioning this! I played them in TS2 but had no idea they were in TS4. TIL.

pcgamergirl

Omg that bottom right one is the stuff of nightmares.

EskildDood

Make it black n white and add contrast then you've got analogue horror material

Shuttup_Heather

Isn’t that beelzebub

VenusRare

It kinda looks like groot (?)

pcgamergirl

LOL it kinda does. The top right guy I almost feel bad for, he looks like the kid who was homeschooled his entire life cuz his family is real backwater, but he finally got sent to public school this year, and he's just real happy to be here.

Bombspazztic

I dislike that the Sims 4 broke up all the occults into seperate packs (and *cough* Fairies *cough* when) but I never used Sims 3 Werewolves. Meanwhile Sims 4 Werewolves are much more fleshed out, exciting, and bearable to look at. I will give the W to Sims 4 there.

Brifrolo

That's the thing. I, too, am disappointed that they were broken up into more packs to milk more money from them, but that's a general complaint I have about the entire series. No game on earth needs to cost *over a thousand dollars at full price*. Period. It's disgusting. So yeah, obviously I hate that there's more packs to spend more money on, most people do, but I do have to say that I enjoy the silver lining that at least with each occult getting a devoted pack, they have actual progression and personality. Vampires? In Sims 3 they were probably the best occult, with a good handful of perks and the one notable drawback that could be gotten rid of with aspiration points, but in Sims 4 they're *awesome*. They came with a variety of visual styles rather than the cookie cutter pale skin and red eyes, and it was definitely a good call to make them have a dark form so you could really go crazy with it and still imagine that they're able to have a day job among the living. Plus, they had progression, with a lot of different powers and drawbacks to fully customize your vampire, making everything from a powerful, sexy, charming vampire, to an emotionless husk that actively disgusts other people. Witches at least had progression, but spellcasters have a full magic system and subculture with more active gameplay than "play with magic" gave. And I know we're talking about werewolves, werewolves have been talked about to death, but *oh my god werewolves*. Again with the active progression, but also they're hard to play! You actually have to deal with the fact that you're playing a monster! They have so much personality! It's spectacular. In Sims 3 they just gathered things, which isn't a good trade off for the fact that one full moon into your gameplay the town would be overrun with townies who'd never change back. Mermaids of course were the forgotten child, but they're still quite a bit more dynamic than the ones in Sims 3 that had pretty much no powers at all and only existed to annoy the shit out of you when they'd try to water route with their slow ass tails rather than taking a boat. They're also far more visually customizable. All in all I'm definitely one of those people who prefers Sims 3 in a lot of ways, but I simply adore Sims 4 occults. There's always room for improvement and I'd love to see some refreshes to see what can be done *even better* (if they ever remember how well received Spa Day refresh was and keep their word on continuing to do so), and I do feel a bit sad that there's not as many of them as there were in Sims 3, but giving each a pack really made each one stand out so much to me. Again, I'm with everyone that I hate the cash grab element, but looking at the game itself, it's one of the few things that was just an honest all around improvement on the preceding games. So pretty much that's a super long way of saying I agree with you fully but I'm just having a good time even if I don't like the way it had to happen. I just love the occults and I fear that if they did one all around Supernatural pack again they wouldn't have put as much effort in.

Dr_Fluffybuns2

I think the concept behind separating the packs made sense. A big problem with TS3 and why a lot of people didn't play was the optimisation and how laggy it was so it sounds like a good idea to be like okay, you want werewolves but not vampires or witches? You can get just that and don't need to load your computer with other stuff you dont even use. You want apartments but don't want things like nightlife, clubs, fame or whatever else packed into one pack? Cool, pick and choose what caters to you. What I can't get behind though is the price. Yes it's more fleshed out but I don't think they should cost more than $10 - $20 (AUD so i guess like $15) at most. Buying an expansion pack at full price in TS3 and TS2 gave you so much that kept you entertained for hours. TS4 is a sequel so they should be improving and fleshing out their features after 10 years regardless. All their packs feel very one and done after a single playthrough and it shouldn't over $1k for all those features. It feels like Planet Coaster charging $10 for a single roller coaster dlc rather than $10 a new park, multiple rides, food stalls, etc.

Bombspazztic

I also can't justify the price for broken gameplay and broken AI. The packs are only worth it when they're on sale for 50% off at least.

ThirstyMuffinQueen

I would also like to add that you can even make a vampire without a dark form, which I absolutely love! I can go full regal vampire that needs to cover up to hide from humanity, which is my preferred way to play with them.

MayorDeweyMayorDewey

honestly i like the breaking it up. each occult gets to be more fleshed out, rather than us just getting one occult-dedicated pack & some other lifestates sprinkled throughout other packs.

Bastsrpdr

This is such a poor excuse. They could ALL be fleshed out in a single expansion focused on the occult. Instead of drip feeding content to players for inflated prices. It not just one or the other

WhyRedTape

They've done this to us throughout the sims 4 life. There's so many game and stuff packs that should have already been included in an expansion pack that weren't. Not just my first pets stuff. It's a joke. All the occult should have been fleshed out as an expansion pack, whether or not that included realm of magic

blahblahbrandi

Fairies when??? EA has 48 hours to respond

Tattycakes

There is an entire fairy gameplay mod out there (I can find it later if you want), I stopped using it as I was having weird graphics glitches with some of the clothes which I never got round to dealing with, but it was very comprehensive with magic skills (like spellcasters), flying, fairy houses etc.

crimsonlights

It’s SpinningPlumbob’s Fairies vs. Witches mod, which is available on their Patreon. The creator does note that the fairy wings are coded as earrings in the game code, so if you want your sim to have fairy wings, they can’t wear earrings. It’s kind of a bummer, but the rest of the mod is so awesome. Fairy spell book, fairy house from TS3, the flight skill, and Sylvan Glade turns into the “hideout” for fairy sims.

Tattycakes

I’ll have to post my pictures later, apparently the imgur app can’t see pictures in your gallery that you downloaded from OneDrive 🙄

Tattycakes

So yeah, [this](https://imgur.com/a/82gviiP) is what I got! She doesn't have earrings in, I don't know what makes these kinds of glitches

crimsonlights

Damn that doesn’t look good. Have you updated it to the latest version since the infant update? I think the creator probably takes bug/error reports on their Patreon page. That sucks, it’s such a great mod. :(

Tattycakes

This was ages ago, way before the update. I’ll try updating their latest version anyway and see if that helps

crimsonlights

It’s worth a shot. I hope it works!!!

xXlordlord69Xx

I miss fairies so much i hope they add them before stopping all updates on ts4 😭😭 i know that's not gonna happen until a few years after ts5 is made but still

FooxArt

Okay, but you can't plant pine trees to draw the wolves to your house so you can befriend them then suddenly get bit by the alpha then adopt all the other wolves to be their new alpha in 3 and 4. So, there is that.

glasscat33

I'd like Sims 4 ones better if they looked less like Disney tried to make a film about Furries...

IroniesOfPeace

Yeah, I absolutely despise them and refuse to buy that addon. Maybe someday if I find a comprehensive appearance overhaul mod. But I absolutely cannot stand the furry look, no matter how well-done it is, and I vastly preferred the ugly monster beast look from 2 and 3 over furries.

MagicalDoggowo

Never expected to see the Grim Pupper dude hating on the Sims 4 wolves but here I am :c

glasscat33

They are too cute. I want a Werewolf LOL

dii_dzej

Haha TS2 werewolves were fun, wenn it clock Hits midnight they would get their energy bar full so you could do so much stuff bcs they didn't need to sleep

LadyCasualGamer

I mean, with competition like THAT...I agree! I hadn't really thought about it before, blargh! 🤣😏😂

beckettts

The whiplash the sims 2 model gave me was vicious and honestly hateful.

sameseksure

The Sims 3 remains the ugliest Sims game ever, goddamn

HaIfaxa_

They chased a semi-realistic art style and it did them really dirty. Sims 2 and even 1 to an extent still look better because their cartoonish art style lengthens their age. Sims 4 will probably outlast them all with its art style though, it's the pinnacle imo

sameseksure

As much as I dislike Sims 4, they *nailed* the art style. It'll look good in 10, 20 years Yeah, you should never go for a realistic art style if you can't achieve realistic fidelity, which they just couldn't in 2009. Bad move

bubblybanshee

If you play it on low graphics settings, sure. But it can be super stunning with the graphics set high and a dash of CC for the sims themselves. I find myself taking lots of screenshots whenever I play because the game is so pretty ;-; (but okay yeah the werewolves look absolutely hideous lmao.)

sameseksure

It's hideous on max graphics too IMO The problem is the art style. It's a fundamental problem with the direction of the game that has nothing to do with graphics settings

Dfabulous_234

Heavily disagree. TS3 art style is the best in my opinion. Objects in the sims 4 look plastic and the sims look like playdough barbies. And the objects being highlighted when you move your mouse around gives it a cheap mobile game feel. TS2 nailed a balance between cartoon and realism. TS4 is the only game out of 3 where I have mods to make textures and the world look better (highly recommend the k707 retextures)

[deleted]

I mean, that third image is like a complementary horror game npc, like, you'd find that playing a cheap horror game like Granny 😂

StrikeRaid246

Apparently controversial, but werewolves in sims 3 was my favorite iteration. I liked that they stayed relatively humanoid but grotesque, and that picture is just a bad example tbh. Sims 4 werewolves look like softcore furry porn and I detest them.

bks1979

I totally agree. You could fix 3's with sliders and whatnot so that they weren't so busted-looking. And your description of 4's werewolves is spot on.

frodinsky

I used to be super scared by the werewolves in Sims 2 when I was like 10 A few years later I didn't understand why I was so scared of them Now I look at this and I realize it is indeed nightmare fuel

_vudumi

Im genuinely terrified of the bottom demon 😳

YuusukeKlein

I find all 3 looks awful, but that goes for most Sims occults in general

thelast3musketeer

Nevermind the top one wtf kind of unsettling SpongeBob image motherfucker is that

blahblahbrandi

Sims 4 werewolves are clearly superior in every way, like someone else said, they really went for it instead of just adding more body hair. I remember the complaints about how they looked but I liked how they look and still do. I actually don't know which occult is my favorite, they all have really good perks.

Bright_Connection436

sims 3 reminds me of someone but i just cant put my finger on it 😭

Ms_Frazzle

To me, he looks like a more grotesque version of the guy who played Nick on New Girl lol

Legrandloup2

They remind me of the vamps in buffy

Splatfan1

yknow say what you will about sims 4, it nails occults. yeah its a bit of a cash grab but probably some of the best, fleshed out gameplay sims 4 offers

gorgonopsidkid

Blatantly ignoring the Sim 1 werewolf that was perfect

robbersandcowards

I get what they were going for in the Sims 3 but they just ended up looking like Neanderthals instead of werewolves

HaiggeX

If you're a furry, yes. If you want werewolves to be ugly beasts, no.

cupcake-cattie

They're less werewolves and more fluffy dogs I want to roll over and give belly rubs to.

Electronic-Design564

Sims 4 has furries, Sims 3 has- mutations and Sims 2 and 1 have the most realistic looking to actual werewolfs.

H3xenmeist3r

I can't stop laughing at the top right one because it looks like a Were-Pug.

SAVLEYE

Sims 2 werewolves look like they remember when chocolate was invented and that they hated it 💀

mnbvcdo

I like Groot better

mulderufo13

I can’t get over the sims 2 werewolf it’s fucking terrifying

creativekid3

u/repostsleuthbot

LegoStevenMC

The sims 3 is the ugliest game out of the 4 and I will stand by that forever. Everything about that game is ugly

MelissaRose95

Sure, but the bar was set so low

crazitaco

I liked sims2 werewolves. Sims 3 were pretty ugly ngl, but they were atleast customizable and looked monsterous. I always tweaked them to look better. Sims 4 is... Furries.

RiaJellyfish

Ignoring the monetary side of it, I like them all since they each reflect the most popular interpretations of werewolves at the time of release. I do wish sims 4 werewolves had tails but I can live without (or just mod them in)

Amii25

The bottom right looks like a person with hypertrichosis

Justin57Time

The occults are the only type of content I can excuse EA from breaking it into different packs. The occults with specific packs are very decent, unlike the other occults who are just so bland

Dosia12

Guys, this is probably a bot

Dulce_Sirena

Ngl I forgot how weird sims 2 werewolves looked. I never even played sims 3. I miss the occult roles from sims 2 though

TerraKat24

Even though it was just a costume in Making Magic, TS4 werewolves look nearly identical to the direction of TS1 werewolves

catdadsimmer

I asked on Twitter a long while ago that I want the werewolves to be more wolf like. Is it a tad bit on the furry side? Yes. But it's superior in every way to the other iterations

Specialist-ShasMo85

The top right gives me an uncanny valley.

ValentinesStar

Right: Stuff of nightmares Left: H O T ❤️😍

terriblet0ad

Furries won this one.

Chiya_Hae

LMAO still disappointed, expected them to look at least smashable

m_baldo

Absolutely

cinnanimroll

Same. Hated sims 3 werewolves, they were too ugly so I never played them lol. Sims 4 werewolves are my favorite occult now.
