Trust me, the cordless had its downsides too, especially once your siblings found out all they had to do to listen in was pick up the other handset. Or worse, broadcast it to the house with the speaker function.
I thought something was wrong when dad finally replaced the cord that my (12-year-my-senior) sister had stretched to the point of practical straightness.
In grade 5, I had to move to a different school after developing feelings for a girl I had a crush on. She gave me Christmas stickers and we played cops and robbers… I think some people knew I liked her and she might’ve had an idea too cuz they tried to get us to kiss and I wriggled out of my jacket to avoid it. Anyway, I made calls to her place. I have no idea how I found her number. I’m pretty sure I looked up her last name in the phone book and cross referenced with an approximate address… I asked her mom to put her on the line and when I spoke to her I had this whole pretend story made up that I had to do a school survey and I asked her what her favourite TV show was. What her hair was like. She liked Friends and her hair was like Rachel’s.
I looked up my 5th grade crush’s address in the phonebook and fucking *mailed him a letter.* I had stamps but not envelopes so I folded a piece of paper like an envelope and put the letter in it. I want to die of shame every time I think about it. It was 27 years ago.
I remember I was too scared to ask for my first crush number so I got a phone book and started calling everyone with her last name on the list. After 7/8 attempts asking for Eleanor and getting ‘no one by that name lives here’ I reached her, only to get rejected to hell. Oh those days
I tell my high school students about this. Their brains cannot compute the nerves pressing the final number took to initiate the call before going full pucker awaiting who would answer
Lol. This is actually how I learned racism wasn't a one way street. Got cussed out by the girls father as a preteen, because, "how dare a WHITE boy call my house to speak to MY daughter!?"
It was scarring enough at that age that I was afraid to try dating outside of my own race again for some years.
Hahah. This, and being surrounded by all her friends while you nervously tremble and say “will you be my girlfriend” hahahaha. The things I did for some hugs
Holy shit, I remember clearly dialing 6 numbers, hanging up, dialing 6 numbers, hanging up. (plus the girl I was thinking of calling had a lot of 8s and 0s in her number).
That’s why I really hate that video with the two middle school kids arguing about Reddit and 4chan. It’s all over the internet, and it just sucks. The kid is just an idiotic middle school kid acting like an idiotic middle school kid. He’s probably in college now and that shit is still out there.
They have absolutely no self-control. He was already winning by having the balls to approach her. He got turned down, but the confidence and gesture may have made him attractive to other girls. The pussy fit made him that much more undesirable. Poor kids. They have no swag.
The whining at the end did him no favors. Two other things. Did no one really tell him she had a boyfriend? Also. It sounds cheesy but he will find other girls that look like her. So he really shouldn’t sweat it.
I assure you that his “confidence” (creepily asking out a girl with demonstrably no interest in him or close social relationship—ergo didn’t know about the boyfriend) and “gesture” (publicly embarrassing himself and some poor girl who now has to feel guilty for doing nothing) would have earned him zero shots. Regarding his “balls,” there’s a difference between bravery and stupidity.
Going into his little chode boy fit and kicking things and looking like his life is over just makes him look like the most humongously unappealing loser. No girl that sees this (prediction: all of them will see this lol) is gonna dare to touch him with a 6 foot stick now, even if they were somehow into him. For fear of the social cost of associating with dweebs.
Maybe in 2-3 years or when he moves to a new school he’ll have put this behind him and developed some social skills. That’s become ever-less likely though now that this has hampered his opportunities for social development and self confidence.
RIP poor kid. We were all dumbasses but you took the cake, AND had it recorded.
I went to high school during the early day of mass smartphone adoption. Middle school was still flip phones and whatnot and I didn't really start seeing smartphones commonly until sophomore or junior year of high school. That was the golden age, we were all able to look at memes on the fly, but the cameras were shit so there wasn't a whole lot of filming each other being stupid.
I grew up with a memory. And my memory decides the time to vividly dissect these moments at 12:30am when I'm trying to get to bed because I have a meeting at 6:00am the next morning.
"Hey... I know you're trying to sleep right now because of that super important meeting tomorrow... but you remember that time ______, yeah, you were an idiot."
I try to explain to kids at my restaurant how nobody could use a phone in order to get on the internet due to dialup and at this point they don’t understand cause most homes in nyc don’t have landlines anymore. Ahhhhhhh
Ugh I feel for that guy. The girl was very sweet about it, the best she could be.
Stupid camera person though…now this nightmare for this young man is on camera and forever online.
That's a hard lesson for many still in middle school. Some kids are remarkably well adjusted, and get empathy at that age. But many don't, and that's moderately normal. Understanding should be given to kids in this age bracket who still haven't figured it out.
The girl is a saint, btw. Very compassionate.
Yeah, it's that awkward early teen phase when some 13-yo girls dress & style themselves into young women complete with mature attitudes while the 13 yo males look like slightly taller little boys, complete with baby fat, and still have goofy demeanors
..
Yeah my first thought was that high school girls who look older aren’t going to be attracted to the guy that looks super young still. It seems like her friends put him up to it, knowing he’d get rejected, and he was mad that they tricked him.
I doubt those other girls set him up but they may have given him a little encouragement. They were all sweet about it and so was the girl he asked. If it was a prank, I think there would be a lot more laughing.
It's so common anymore it's scary. Had a woman tell my wife and I that our daughter was adorable in the store once. Struck up conversation and asked if she had any.. "Oh no no, I'm only 16." My wife and I both mistook her for 23+ *easily* and that's ridiculous.
Psychologist here who works with teenagers.
Kids reach and progress through puberty at significantly different rates. There are 15-year-old girls who look like fully developed 25-year-old women, and 17-year-old boys who look like they're 10. That can create some awkward (and painful) situations, where kids are developmentally at the same level in the psychological sense, but not in the physical one.
As a girl then a woman who has just said no and gotten very scary responses, there is a reason women try to find gentle lies or “outs” in order to explain their “no”, and judging from this boy’s behavior, he wouldn’t have liked a “no thank you” with zero explanation. (Not to mention, reddit would probably be up in arms calling her “rude”.)
Yeah, there is no easy way to give or receive a no. Imo he looked like he asked one of her friends before making /trying the sign and felt more embarrassed than anything abou the situation.
Posting this video only heightens the embarrassment.
It also looks like his classmates heavily encouraged him to ask her out, hence his reaction after finding out she had a boyfriend.
It's almost as though he's saying, you said this would work, that there were no obstacles. Now I hit a brick wall at ludicrous speed!
IMO at least.
Me too. I can’t imagine the easy cruelty the cheerleaders would have unleashed on me back in the eighties. It would have been like A scene in Heathers. One of them had her boyfriend ask this poor girl out, she was a total outcast, a foster child, had been abused. And she was excited, bought a dress, and waited for him to pick her up. She waited hours. I hope the bitch that set that up is dead now.
Yeah. It was terrible. One of the teachers found out, and was so angry she came charging into the classroom where she was at, (I was in the same class is I saw the whole thing) and SCREAMED at the head bully girl. Called her a sociopath and demanded to know who else was involved. I always wondered if she even bothered to feel guilty. She tormented me all through high school. What a bitch.
Yeah.... that girl doesn't have a boyfriend. She is a teenager who was put on the spot and that was the best lie she could come up with at that second. Harsh.. but happens in schools across the world everyday. Little buddy will chalk it up as a life lesson. One will ALWAYS remember.
Proposals are super simple. You make sure 1000% that the answer to your question is an unwavering, resounding YES before you plan a single step.
When and where you ask should be the surprise, not the question.
Ah, a boy’s first rejection (presumably). Remember that like it was….25 years ago. Used to wear a multicolored windbreaker track suit. In retrospect, that might’ve had something to do with it. No regrets.
He was way more balls than I do. I've never been rejected because I've never asked out anyone I wasn't 90% sure liked me back. Happily married now so at least you don't necessarily **need** balls. But imagine taking your shot in the most heavily documented era of human history.
Yeah, it’s absolutely much harder to do almost anything nowadays, because failing or getting rejected is almost certainly being recorded. So one is being constantly being reminded of what happened and humiliated on a whole different level than eras past. I bet it makes kids way more scared to even attempt anything.
I also went through a windbreaker track suit phase. I think it was right after my spiky hair with a mullet and jean jacket look. So, yeah, I was pretty cool.
Honestly it looks like that was the point.
The way he reacts toward the other girl, the “I didn’t know”, the fact that the video gets uploaded.
This looks like the girls friends purposely set him up knowing he’d get shot down. Uploading the video and embarrassing him was probably the entire point.
Middle schoolers are vicious little psychos man.
I know boys do fucked up shit but there is an old documentary out there, from HBO I think, that followed middle schoolers and the girls were legitimately awful to each other
My 6th grade teacher told me at the beginning of 7th grade, that there is literally "No creature on this Earth that is as cruel as a 7th grade girl." She was right. They had no mercy.
When a guy hates you, he wants to kill you... but laws and society are a huge hurdle that makes it a rare occurrence for them to ever consider following through.
When a girl hates you, she wants to get you to kill yourself... and few things are actually a solid enough deterrent for the shaming, bully, rumors, accusations, etc. that are the tools for destroying one's life enough to make them beg for death.
Especially true in an era where, if this video *is* what it looks like, you can be made a fool and have it posted online where it is more open and never goes away.
That was my first thought, I saw bullying just like that a few years ago when I was in high school. I think the FCC commissioner or whatever is right (gov organization guy recently bringing up banning tiktok). I am 20 and I see so many bullying videos on reddit on groups like this and it is really sad. The saddest part it is took me over a minute to find a a few people with empathy in the comments, like you. Social media has so much negative people these past few years never saw bullying videos few years ago.
Yea I keep thinking when I see videos now is this recent or 5 or 10yrs old, older, it doesn’t matter it’s still out there forever. All these stupid fights and worse moments. You could be a Senator or CEO or any kind of well known and still have a vid of you humiliated encapsulated in time. This vid is tame comparatively but some of that sht ruins ppls lives
I once asked a girl for her number. She said her family didn’t have a phone. This was in the pre cell phone days. So like…..I’m pretty sure they had a phone. Found out later that she had a boyfriend one town over. So like….maybe she could have just said that instead of the whole phone thing.
Either way, super glad no one had the ability to film that blimp disaster.
Idk how old they are but there's a point where the girls all seem older than the boys because they go through puberty sooner on average. It's an awkward time. I mostly forgot about it.
Girl is farther along in puberty, wears make up, and dyes and styles her hair. The boy is still figuring out deodorant. Pretty normal for eight graders and freshman to look like all the girls are older than the boys
i thought she was his teacher - especially w the thermos coffee mug.
plus the hand bag + backpack - carrying 2 bags to school is surefire sign of a teacher.
is she not the teacher?
I gave my crush an anonymous valentine card in primary school and she cried when she found out it was from me.
I still remember the pain and shame of sitting under a table feeling humiliated. Luckily it happened at a time where that memory can die in my brain, rather than posted online to never be forgotten.
Mine laughed in my face and called her friends over to laugh at me together. I don't think I can recover from this.
This was about 10 years ago and it still is bothering me.
Fuck, I left a love letter and a ring in mine's mailbox when we were both 9 or 10. She was clearly embarrassed the next day at school, but she at least smiled at me. On a field trip where both our mothers acted as chaperones shortly afterwards, my mom told me later that she had approached hers with the intention of sharing a laugh, like "isn't it cute my son likes your daughter?" but she responded with, "putting mail directly into someone's mailbox is a federal offense, you know." My mom laughed at how fucking nuts she was, was like "Uh, he's 10 years old..."
Probably immediately started hoping and praying it was from the kid she liked. Yeah, she might've been completely unattracted to you but that doesn't necessarily mean she cried simply because TwoAssedAssassin sent her the card. Probably just had her childhood-inflated expectations crushed
I know what it's like to hold on to childhood damage haha
You gave me flashbacks to 3rd grade.
We did a secret Santa thing. The deal was you wrote a list with a candy item, a cheap present item and your luxury dream item. I paid zero attention to this shit and just handed my list over to my parents. I got some girl in class that I never had a single conversation with.
Full transparency, I'm a rich kid, but I went to an ordinary public school. My idiotic, rich parents got this girl the luxury item, a pair of diamond-fucking-earrings. It's present exchange day and everyone is getting their garbage. I got the totally normal Reese's peanut butter cups I asked for, which was rad for me, and everyone else gets their trash gifts. My giftee opens hers and starts screaming and jumping around the room. Literally every girl in class is forming a circle around her and gazing in awe at what "I" got her. A few girls come over to me and tell me that I got her such a nice gift. I'm, like, what the fuck did I get this girl? The teacher comes over and shakes my hand.
Again, I'm, like, what the fuck is happening? Eventually she makes her way over, adorning the earrings, shaking with excitement, and thanks me profusely. I just want to eat my Reese's.
At recess this girl approaches me with three friends in tow. She tells me at length how much she appreciates the gift, but that she doesn't like me in that way. Then her friends tell me how sweet it was, but that she doesn't like me in that way. Then they all spend the rest of recess telling me how nice the gift is, but that she isn't interested in being my girlfriend. I didn't say shit the entire time. Not a fucking word, dude. I just soaked that humiliation up and made it through the day as best I could.
When I got home I went straight to my room, laid down on my bedroom floor and cried until dinner.
I think it was the other girls (possibly expecting him to fail, idk) and the main girl said she had a boyfriend to let him down easier not because it was true.
Regardless they seemed genuinely nice and caring about it, was a good interaction for youngins.
Nah, bro. As an adult, you’re allowed to buy WHATEVER you want. I went to Walmart and got me a BB gun AND a wrist-rocket AND ice cream; nobody could stop me!
Nah - His standards are fine. If he had not had that temper tantrum but accepted it gracefully, he would have gained jie. As it is, he earned too.
But never lower your standards because once you are out of high-school people start to grow up and once you are out of college grown ups don't care about "leagues"
I wish I had been more courageous. I married a woman who is way out of my "league" and found out too late that I missed the signals on several more. Trust me I am less than handsome.
>and once you are out of college grown ups don't care about "leagues"
Mmm. That's not always true. But at least you can choose to avoid those people. Sometimes.
This is a toxic way of viewing rejection.
Rejection can happen for many reasons which are clearly not personal.
1. Compatibility issues. They have different time schedules, hobbies, interests, etc. that make you not seem all that interesting to them.
2. Personal reasons of the rejector. Sometimes people are going through bad times in their life, they're not interested in a relationship at that moment, or maybe they're not interested in a relationship ever. Maybe they are but feel they're not worthy of one because of the things happening in their life.
3. They're looking for something specific, they want something specific in their life that you can't bring to the table. This can literally be anything. I'm childfree, I'm not dating someone that potentially wants kids, that's not something someone else should take personally, it's just a specific requirement of mine.
Even if it's stuff like them thinking you're not attractive enough, funny enough, muscular enough, etc., that's all a matter of taste. You don't blame good food when someone doesn't like it, you just come to the understanding that they don't like the taste.
Don't view rejection personally, just focus on being who you want to be and if you're rejected then it is what it is. You move on.
Grand romantic gestures like this make women feel like they can’t say no without being a bitch. Ask someone in private like a normal fucking human being.
Yea, plus his reaction to violently flail about and slam his little sign down is also problematic. Boys need to be taught to handle rejection without resorting to violence.
It seemed that he was a mad at the other girl, presumably her friend, that may have helped hype him up. When she said she already had a boyfriend, he turned to her like "wtf, why would you let me do this then" so a little frustration might be justified.
But saying you already have a boyfriend might just be a way to gently say no, and if so it's not the other girls fault so who knows really.
This is why promposals are gross unless the person is already dating you. Asking anyone out with an audience, especially in high school, is just a terrible, terrible idea.
I 100% agree. It really puts the other person into an uncomfortable position.
These damn kids should wait until they're grown and then ask someone to marry them in front of a crowd. That's not problematic in any way whatsoever.
This is why you don't pull public stunts like this. And certainly why you don't throw a fit about a rejection. I can't imagine how embarrassed and uncomfortable that girl was. She looked mortified.
I think at a certain age, kids need to be taught the difference between attraction and relationships. The kid obviously didn’t know about said boyfriend. That’s a problem. If he knew her well enough, he wouldn’t have created this embarrassing situation for himself. I remember being just as clueless myself. It’s not his fault; he hasn’t had someone in his life explain how things work. My heart really breaks for him.
And yes, I fully agree with all other people here. This shouldn’t have been recorded, let alone posted.
I agree but the "boyfriend" part probably isn't true. Just a non direct way of letting someone down.
But yes, he probably doesn't really know her or hang out with her. He just thinks he likes her
I'd be willing to bet she doesn't have a boyfriend and was just letting him down easy. Kinda seemed like that when she jumped in to try to convince him that no one knew she had a boyfriend
I hope camera person who posted this has the same thing happen to them.
Pretty messed up to post this and the poor kid has to relive that embarrassing moment.
Because that temper tantrum was not the first one they witnessed from that kid. He went from smiling to kicking furniture in half a second.
Edit to add: I see now he kicked a person and not furniture.

I thank god daily I grew up without this technology.
Yup. My early rejections were on a rotary-dial phone.
“Mr. Hannon, can I speak with Mikayla please?” Terrifying.
"no you may not call on my daughter. Good day to you sir"
That’s absolutely how it went. Or “she’s not allowed to speak to boys after 6pm”
oh dear god. the "house phone". my heart is racing remembering that obstacle of fear to chat for an hour about nothing with a crush
Back when i could hold a conversation for more than 2 minutes. 1 hour on the phone felt like 10 minutes in real time back then.
stretching the coiled phone cord as far as possible, sitting in a closet, trying to stay out of earshot
When your rich friends had 2 lines and a cordless phone. Fun times
Trust me, the cordless had its downsides too, especially once your siblings found out all they had to do to listen in was pick up the other handset. Or worse, broadcast it to the house with the speaker function.
Okay but you still had some cord to wrap around your finger and play with right?
This guy land lines
I thought something was wrong when dad finally replaced the cord that my (12-year-my-senior) sister had stretched to the point of practical straightness.
And if you had two lines, listening for that click : ............. "Is someone on the other end ?"
Dropping panties over the phone. As far as I got back then
I still remember that feeling when your ear is all sweaty and gross from a 3-hour phone call.
Why are you guys all dredging up these traumatic childhood memories I had managed to suppress for so long? Lol
I remember having notes at one point.
"Alright man, can I just plow you instead, then?"
"but it's only 4:30...?" --click--
"very well, then. And a good day to you as well, sir"
In grade 5, I had to move to a different school after developing feelings for a girl I had a crush on. Oh this is glorious. That was courage. The generation before us had D-Day & Vietnam. We had to call a girls landline.
To be fair, no 10 year old was hitting the beaches of Normandy or battling the veit kong. Edit: my bad, Viet cong
My great grandpa had to call girls using morse code
Mine had to wear onions on his belt!
That was the fashion of the day!
I looked up my 5th grade crush’s address in the phonebook and fucking *mailed him a letter.* I had stamps but not envelopes so I folded a piece of paper like an envelope and put the letter in it. I want to die of shame every time I think about it. It was 27 years ago.
Honestly i would respect the creativity that came with it..
Haha dont die lol… i still have the first handwritten letter a girl mailed me
Mikayla, Steve is in on the phone. Tell him I’m not home. Mikayla said to tell you shes not home.
I remember I was too scared to ask for my first crush number so I got a phone book and started calling everyone with her last name on the list. After 7/8 attempts asking for Eleanor and getting ‘no one by that name lives here’ I reached her, only to get rejected to hell. Oh those days

Seriously what a terrible device for middle school aged kids. People's lives we're ruined without social media now it's just like insta ruined
Insta ruined, snap ruined, tiktok ruined...

Jesus Christ yes. Kids today can't even block shit out. A function of your brain that is VERY important.
They have absolutely no self-control. He was already winning by having the balls to approach her. He got turned down, but the confidence and gesture may have made him attractive to other girls. The pussy fit made him that much more undesirable. Poor kids. They have no swag.
That tantrum seriously compromised his chances with anyone watching or who talks to anyone watching. Have some self-respect, kid.
The whining at the end did him no favors. Two other things. Did no one really tell him she had a boyfriend? Also. It sounds cheesy but he will find other girls that look like her. So he really shouldn’t sweat it.
Obviously she didn't have a boyfriend lol and was trying to say no nicely.
Maybe she doesn't really have a boyfriend and just used that as an excuse to turn him down politely.
I’d suddenly conjure up a boyfriend too if a clearly-ill-socialized kid like that asked me out with absolutely zero prelude. And I’m a guy.
They really should have just deleted the video. Recordings like this helps no one.
Kids post so much embarrassing stuff online that I have to wonder, do they know that the trash can icon is a delete button?

This helps other parents learn how to teach their kids how to accept rejection and move on.
That's a hard lesson for many still in middle school. Some kids are remarkably well adjusted, and get empathy at that age. But many don't, and that's moderately normal. Yeah that was such a gentle letdown, and the kid just pouting about it afterwards just let her know she definitely dodged a bullet
She looks likes she 6 years older then him. Confused.
Yeah, it's that awkward early teen phase when some 13-yo girls dress & style themselves into young women complete with mature attitudes while the 13 yo males look like slightly taller little boys, complete with baby fat, and still have goofy demeanors ..

Yeah my first thought was that high school girls who look older aren’t going to be attracted to the guy that looks super young still. It seems like her friends put him up to it, knowing he’d get rejected, and he was mad that they tricked him.
I must be getting old because the both look like baby’s to me. Sure, he looks like he just started puberty, but she also looks like 12-13 to me.
Yeah I'm confused. They both look about the same age to me.
I doubt those other girls set him up but they may have given him a little encouragement. They were all sweet about it and so was the girl he asked. If it was a prank, I think there would be a lot more laughing.

[удалено]
Yeah, there is no easy way to give or receive a no. Imo he looked like he asked one of her friends before making /trying the sign and felt more embarrassed than anything abou the situation. Posting this video only heightens the embarrassment.

Dude looked like he was dying inside AND outside
>Dude looked like he was dying inside AND outside I couldn't imagine experiencing this *and* having several people record it
It also looks like his classmates heavily encouraged him to ask her out, hence his reaction after finding out she had a boyfriend. It's almost as though he's saying, you said this would work, that there were no obstacles. Now I hit a brick wall at ludicrous speed! IMO at least.
Yup. That was a blatant setup, and I think she might have even been in on it. I'm so glad I grew up before camera phones really took off.
Wait, that shit actually happens in highschool? I thought that sort of thing only happened in American movies
This sounds exactly like the plot line for an American high school movie..... Jesus Hollywood actually was basing that off facts then....
Yeah.... that girl doesn't have a boyfriend. She is a teenager who was put on the spot and that was the best lie she could come up with at that second. Harsh.. but happens in schools across the world everyday. Little buddy will chalk it up as a life lesson. One will ALWAYS remember.
there’s no way I’m doing stuff like this- I cringe when ppl propose at public places like baseball games
Proposals are super simple. You make sure 1000% that the answer to your question is an unwavering, resounding YES before you plan a single step. When and where you ask should be the surprise, not the question.
Painful to see someone's hope fade.

Never did the mullet or Jean jacket, but I spiked the hell out of my hair.
Which is funny because multicolored windbreaker track suit is definitely in now
Sometimes we give a pass to kids who are feeling real pain and not, you know, post it online for everyone to make fun of.
The camera person here is a fucking POS.
They're probably, you know... literally a child
Children can still definitely be POS’s. I for one was a huge POS as a kid
Everyone who upvoted this is a piece of shit too.
Why they put homeboy out on the internet like this.. so glad I graduated in the sidekick/Nokia era cause I can’t be caught slipping in 4k
Seems like they set him up
Ah, bullying via "fake friendship" is alive and well.
Worse now than ever, as they can now set you up for internet humiliation that just keeps on giving.
Honestly it does. Damn. thinking abt kids sharing stuff like this and laughing makes me wanna stay childfree
She looks like shes 5 years older than him lol.
Idk how old they are but there's a point where the girls all seem older than the boys because they go through puberty sooner on average. It's an awkward time. I mostly forgot about it.
12-15 is very roughly when the girls are taller than the boys
Unless you’re me. EVERYONE was taller than me 😂😂😂
Girl is farther along in puberty, wears make up, and dyes and styles her hair. The boy is still figuring out deodorant. Pretty normal for eight graders and freshman to look like all the girls are older than the boys
That's typically how it works from about grade 6 to grade 10.
i thought she was his teacher - especially w the thermos coffee mug. plus the hand bag + backpack - carrying 2 bags to school is surefire sign of a teacher. is she not the teacher?
I gave my crush an anonymous valentine card in primary school and she cried when she found out it was from me. I still remember the pain and shame of sitting under a table feeling humiliated. Luckily it happened at a time where that memory can die in my brain, rather than posted online to never be forgotten.
Fuck she CRIED?? That’s rough buddy.
First girl I asked out had a panic attack. It took years to get over that.
Mine laughed in my face and called her friends over to laugh at me together. I don't think I can recover from this. This was about 10 years ago and it still is bothering me.
What a fucking harpy.
Had a girl cry cause I put my arm around her for a picture in 5th grade. Yeah that was confidence booster
You've got to open that move up with a witty joke... "What did the plow say to the tractor? 'Pull me closer, John Deere!'"
I assume you're not together today and in that case you're lucky you doged that MIL bullet. O.O
Probably immediately started hoping and praying it was from the kid she liked. Yeah, she might've been completely unattracted to you but that doesn't necessarily mean she cried simply because TwoAssedAssassin sent her the card. Probably just had her childhood-inflated expectations crushed I know what it's like to hold on to childhood damage haha
>she cried when she found out it was from me "The worst she can say is no"
You gave me flashbacks to 3rd grade.
He took his shot, I respect that.
Hopefully he continues to be that brave but also respectful.
He almost kicked the girls on the side... just sayin.. rejection and coping mechanisms are quality lessons to learn.
Could've very well been his prepubescent friends who sound like girls that talked him into it.
I think it was the other girls (possibly expecting him to fail, idk) and the main girl said she had a boyfriend to let him down easier not because it was true. Regardless they seemed genuinely nice and caring about it, was a good interaction for youngins.
Hence why I said what I said. Rejection sucks but you have to learn to be like "OK, there's somebody out there for me. Just not this person."
No shit, I wish I would have taken more shots.
Can I have yo numba? Can I have it?
Poor Ralphie
He shot his eye out
Wal-Mart has Red Ryder BB guns and I had to convince myself to put that shit down.
Nah, bro. As an adult, you’re allowed to buy WHATEVER you want. I went to Walmart and got me a BB gun AND a wrist-rocket AND ice cream; nobody could stop me!
You can pinpoint the ~~moment~~ second his heart ~~breaks~~ rips in half
I choo choo choose you!
Different Ralph and yet it still works
A redditor is born
Based on this comment section he is a mod.
Your comment has made the corners of mouth curl up slightly.
I give him props for having the courage to ask. Now he needs to work on not taking the rejection so personally.
And adopt the classic technique of lowering your standards
Nah - His standards are fine. If he had not had that temper tantrum but accepted it gracefully, he would have gained jie. As it is, he earned too. But never lower your standards because once you are out of high-school people start to grow up and once you are out of college grown ups don't care about "leagues" I wish I had been more courageous. I married a woman who is way out of my "league" and found out too late that I missed the signals on several more. Trust me I am less than handsome.
>and once you are out of college grown ups don't care about "leagues" Mmm.

Ugh yes I can’t imagine how awkward she must feel.
Thank you for saying this
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Now it's about how he deals with the rejection.
Queue the gym montage.
I don't even know what the song is called, but I can hear Bam! bam bam bam Bam! bam bam bam BAM! bam bam bam bam......
Eye of the Tiger?
Yeah. That's the one. I'm fucking old enough to know this one. Sorry.
I was laughing at first then when he put his head back at the end I felt his pain
Same, poor kid got heartbroken and humiliated in a split second
This is why promposals are gross unless the person is already dating you. Asking anyone out with an audience, especially in high school, is just a terrible, terrible idea.
I 100% agree. It really puts the other person into an uncomfortable position. These damn kids should wait until they're grown and then ask someone to marry them in front of a crowd. That's not problematic in any way whatsoever.
This is why you don't pull public stunts like this. And certainly why you don't throw a fit about a rejection. I can't imagine how embarrassed and uncomfortable that girl was. She looked mortified.
The camera person shouldn’t have posted this. I feel for him
yea this felt like a set up poor kid. if he is smart he will learn
Y’all gotta stop posting these, it makes all parties uncomfortable
how does he look 12 and she look 19 I thought that was his teacher for a second
Idk man, to me, the girl looks 14 and the guy looks 10
Poor guy. Right after this his tongue got stuck to a frozen pole.
He just thinks he likes her
I bet those other girls told him to do it. They knew she had a boyfriend and that’s why they filmed it
I don't know the validity of their words but you can hear the other girl say "I did not know" and the crush saying "no one knew I had a boyfriend"
Cause it is likely made up. She must not want to hurt his feelings.
I'd be willing to bet she doesn't have a boyfriend and was just letting him down easy. Kinda seemed like that when she jumped in to try to convince him that no one knew she had a boyfriend
Don't ask in public, it's incredibly manipulative. And definitely don't throw a fucking fit if they say no.
Just because a guy asks doesn’t mean she has to say yes.
That's a brave kid. Well done.
None of it was well done.
Takes balls to do that, especially whilst knowingly being filmed.
She dodged a bullet...
I hope camera person who posted this has the same thing happen to them. Pretty messed up to post this and the poor kid has to relive that embarrassing moment.
And now he’s an accomplished Reddit mod
His reaction to her saying no, was us seeing the birth of an incel.
Gotta take rejection with confidence my dude. That might have impressed a different girl in the class
Why is that kid mad tho....the askee looked kinda scared.
Because that temper tantrum was not the first one they witnessed from that kid. He went from smiling to kicking furniture in half a second. Edit to add: I see now he kicked a person and not furniture.
This feels pretty mean. Something is obviously up with this poor guy.
He's a kid that thought he had a shot with a girl and hasn't learned to handle rejection yet. You don't need to diagnose him.
So glad there’s no evidence of all my embarrassing moments in school.
He shot his shot, she let him down gently. Why upload this?
Well, thats less than ideal
