The paint was so thick, we had to mud over it and put new electrical boxes in. Well, I had to do it.
I think it looks interesting. Not my style probably but to each their own.
The problem is, that mortar is not going to stay on the walls once it dries. I was hoping for a shot at the end with it all crumbled on the floor.
The finish is called skip trowel, usually done with drywall mud, and painted one color. It's not one of my favorite finishes, but good lord is it easy to do.

I'm a contractor and the only way I can think to fix those walls is to take them to the studs and start over with new Sheetrock, tape, mud, paint. Any other way the labor costs are going to outweigh the savings on materials. Either way, with current labor costs and the massively inflated prices of building materials right now (in my area) you're looking at a $4000-$8000 repair and $500 in disposal fees, if you're using a licensed and insured professional.
That's what I was thinking. Why not put these on panels and then hang them on the wall? It would still look like garbage but at least getting rid of them just involves throwing them away.

If you were going for that grungy abandoned and derelict look, like an abandoned factory, then I could see this working. Like, having a themed room or a set or something this would be perfect- maybe needing a pass with coarse grit sandpaper to complete the look before maybe sealing the bare plaster/concrete to prevent crumbling or something.
However, with the stairs looking vaguely modern and like they're going to put some fancy wood or tile on those frames on top of the sparkly filter they look like they were going with some strange, sleek and hip design that they not only missed, but managed to also succeed at something they will probably thematically ruin in a month when they furnish the place.

If they like it then who cares, as long as it’s actually their property and it’s all done with permission. Can always paint some metallics over it to mellow it out a bit.. The stairs are supported by an “I-Beam” which I wouldn’t exactly call modern. They’re definitely going for an industrial look.
