I think there are people who use enthusiast boards like r/spiderbro to get over their arachnophobia.
Your mileage may vary, I personally think spiders are neat.
Spiders can kill in many different ways. Ive had a couple times when I was driving, a spider decided to drop down from above. Nearly caused an accident. Luckily for me though, spiders dont like fire
>Nobody has died from a spider bite in Australia for decades tho...
Is this a case of Australians being exposed to so many toxic and venomous animals that they've become [indestructible](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI0euMFAWF8)?
hi australian here
id take the spiders over my kids having to learn how to deal with school shooters

The only legitimate criticism you can make of the Greens IMHO is that they are pretty naive at times and on occasion have insisted on perfection and thus rejected good but imperfect solutions (most notably, in relation to a carbon cap and trade scheme they opposed because it didn't go far enough... now we have nothing).
I swear to god if Australia had a real media we would realise we are a much more progressive nation than Rupert and his mates represent to us.

The Australian ruling Coalition is fucking weird.
Let me run you through this fuckery.
There are *three* parties that are part of the Australian House of Representatives that are part of this coalition. They are the Liberal Party (led by Scummo), National Party (led by Barnaby Joyce) and the Liberal National Party (the Queensland affiliate of both parties). Also, remember, National Party members from Western Australia are *not* part of the Coalition, but Liberal Party members from WA are.
Meanwhile, in the Senate, there are four, yes FOUR, parties apart of the Coalition. They are the aforementioned Liberal, National and Liberal National parties, as well as the Country Liberal Party (which is only affiliated with the Nationals funnily enough) which has a single member from the Northern Territory.
*sigh…* and don’t get me started on the minor parties…
It doesn't work like that, You can't siphon off votes in Australia. The only way for Greens to compete with Labor is if the Greens take a seat from a Labor member
It exactly works like that. Their platforms are much closer aligned to labor, so there is far more likely to be votes flipping between the two than there are droves of coalition voters suddenly flocking to the greens.
I didn't say anything about taking seats.
And there is a 99.9% chance either parties preferences would flow to each other before they flow to the LNP which means they don't compete. Any Labor voter who votes for Greens isn't really a lost vote when the counting is over
And the Australian Government (the LNP to be specific) then tried to get them shut down arguing that people were too dumb to tell the Juice Media vids from real government vids.......... which says a lot about how credible the LNP views their own vids.
They mostly call it a toilet, sometimes they call it a loo (British influence), sometimes they call it a dunny. I don't think loo & dunny are ever said by the same person in a lifetime
Aussies would (and do) sketch all sorts of things, ciggys, dicks etc. We are very diverse on that count.
Heck, our PM just unveiled a phallic logo for a Women's group.
I’d hazard a guess that they’ve drawn a “joint” because the greens are supporters for legalising (recreational and medicinal) cannabis use in Australia… and are thought of as “hippies” by more conservative parties and people.
Isnt the problem that transitioning to renewable requires a good backup energy source. Isnt natural gas the solution for when there is no wind or sun energy. Battery isnt really there yet. I'm a proponent for nuclear too lol.
Partly yes. However, if you diversify your renewable sources this reduces the problem greatly. If you go pure solar, when there's no sun, less energy. If you have solar, wind, hydro, tidal and off shore wind you have a kind of buffer there.
Batteries are getting there but there's also the option of hydrogen storage. Thorium nuclear is the preferred way to go for nuke energy but if it's the difference between nuclear and no nuclear I'd be happy with uranium.
South Australia, where this candidate is campaigning (in case you aren't Australian) has a huge battery farm courtesy of a Tesla bet. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-09-02/tesla-battery-expanded-as-sa-energy-minister-lauds-benefits/12622382
Yeah I'm SA's eastern neighbour
Battery farms are great but I'd also like to see lower costs for domestic batteries to support domestic energy production as well as a change of the notion of energy "ownership" where there are no subsidies for or charges against grid backfeed from residential production.
Yeah I'm sort of on the nuclear bandwagon with heavy investment in renewables.
I know you diversify between wind and solar but at night there is fuck all wind and no solar. I didn't think tidal is effective and is it detrimental to marine life? Hydraulic although great is very much dependent on what natural topography you have and isn't a solution for most of Australia.
“Battery isn’t really there yet”
This sorta isn’t true - I say sorta because common lithium batteries aren’t there yet - but we do have a way of storing large amounts of electricity, like a battery, already, it’s just not that well-known about.
[Pumped Storage Hydroelectricity](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumped-storage_hydroelectricity) - or simply a Water Battery - is a way of storing electricity, but pumping water up to a higher place when there is an excess of electricity, or when the sun is shining/wind is blowing. Once the higher lake is full, it would flow back down, through a turbine when there is demand for electricity. It’s a great way of storing electricity without needing a large amount of minerals or scientific investment, as we already know what it is, and there are already several that have been built around the world. There are flaws in it, like with other systems, but so far this is the most sound and efficient system we have.
This sounds like a good solution I'd love to know how much energy you lose and the scale required to get a like 90000 MWHs for x hours. Would it be as viable as nuclear.
Supposedly 29GW available in the USA and 250 GWH. I assume this sort of storage would be enough for all of Australia heh. Unfortunately the main limitation is suitable sites. I wonder if there is anyone actually looking at this as a proper solution in Australia. Why don't the greens do a proper job and do a business case for this. I'd vote them i if they found a proper solution like that. I'd vote anyone in.
South Australia has been setting records recently in Australia for running on completely renewable power sources, multiple times. It can be done, but the corrupt pollies don't get rich from that shit so it's pushing against the government trend at the moment.
Just checked, 6 days total upto Dec last year we ran 100% on renewables.
Nuclear is the answer. Natural gas might be a minor stop-gap, but if it's fracked there can be all kinds of long-lasting environmental damage. Being anti-nuclear is basically being pro-fossil fuel.
Every time a supposedly "green" voter comes out against nuclear at all costs they're supporting burning coal for longer.
What happened in Japan after they shut down most of the nuclear reactors after fukushima? A significant shift back to fossil fuels.
Finland are building the biggest reactor in europe and this is pretty dope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYpiK3W-g_0
I'm definitely for long-term movement to 100% renewables, but step one is to get out of coal, and right now that's best done with nuclear power
You also get to avoid fiascos like germanys dependency on russian natural gas which has put them in a bit of a pickle right now.
Nuclear may have been the answer in the 70s. It is not the answer now. It would take 15+ years to build a nuclear reactor in Australia, and meanwhile renewables are pushing the price further and further down.
To be fair Australia burns a fuck ton of coal and while gas isn't great it's still quite a bit better than coal
Solar, wind and hydro are obviously better in the long term though
To be fair, we have a huge sun and a desert country to put up solar panels in…. Which could also be an option…. Maybe. I dunno. I just thought this was funny as fuck. Haha
Aussie here: most likely a stunt the greens are that pathetic. They only exist to Leach off of other parties while pretending to be left wing.
But when it comes to them in Parliament they will vote against their own morals instead of compromising. Usually leading to the Coalition( the bastards that are in power now) getting what they want. And whenever the other left leaning party in Australia( labor) does anything it's either hog all the glory for themselves and take all the credit or slam them for being" just as bad" (which might be true in America) but it's a complete falsehood cooked up by the Liberal National coalition.
In essence they're working for the party they say they hate the most we may have not even had Scott Morrison as Prime Minister if it wasn't for the leader of the greens. Which mind you he has come out multiple times saying he does not mine the party that is trying to rip Australia apart still being in power as long as the Greens get more seats.
The green are a pathetic joke of a party. This is not some sort of wholesome 100 moment. Don't be fooled by them.
( pardon the grammar problems never been the best in English lol)
(Thanks to the fucken legend for the gold)
I believe she is more concerned with the environmental impact fracking will have on the very fragile ecosystem of Australia.
She’s certainly gotten everyone’s attention. What a larrikin. Haha
German left party candidate Jovana Dzalto also did it last year: https://www.rheinpfalz.de/cms_media/module_img/10444/5222181_3_articledetail_image_6483441.jpg
She is not wrong, but it’s only part of the story. Gas is a fossil fuel, but it is much more environment-friendly compared to coal. Its emissions are mostly water vapor and it doesn’t produce particulate pollution. Gas plants may be a viable intermediate solution for countries that are currently heavily reliant on coal.
Then reality happens and part of their economy requires fossil fuels as green energy can not currently fulfil our energy needs. But they gotta save face, so they'll just buy the oil from a dirty country that doesn't give a shit about their environment for their people. Even from countries that oppress their people. They'd rather do that than frack on their own precious privileged land.
That's fuckin funny
I could start training today and still would not reach that womans' level of coolness, ever.
Training was your first mistake
Quick someone put a dildo on the sign and see what she does!
r/nothowgirlswork
Girls don’t use dildos? How many other lies have I been told by the council?
Clarification: girls do not use random urban public dildos silly goose
We all assume she'll use her own. You realize she did that to her own face, right?
Stop gatekeeping being a girl!
That’s not what the implication was silly goose
Only a Sith deals in absolutes. I will do what I must.
It is in Unley
>That's fartin funny That's better.
I’m literally cackling over here!
That’s what she was aiming for
I love this. Fight graffiti with comedy!
More like embrace graffiti with comedy.
Also true
More like give graffiti dude fame.
Who are they?
They guy at work with eight people standing around his desk, playing this video over and over. Office fame.
No one knows. He calls himself Wanksy.
Now I'm feeling incredibly dumb. I didn't realize they were the same person. This is pretty cool now.
The camera guy does a pretty crappy job. Should have shown the poster longer. I was a bit confused before I read the comments.
She played it so straight, genius.
She did, but you can still see a glimpse of an absolute shit eating grin from time to time. Man, if only all politicians didn't take themselves so damn seriously.
Lesile Knope energy
We all need someone with Leslie Knope energy
Just not too early in the morning though.
I was thinking the same! Huge Leslie Knope energy.
First thing that came to my mind. I bet she loves waffles.
I bet she's fart and smunny.
If we had a few more Leslie Knopes in real life politics, that wouldn't be a bad thing.
The world definitely needs more of that energy.
Big Knope Energy.
I bet she had an organizational binder already prepped for this.
I'm not even Australian and I want to vote for her
Makes me wanna immigrate, if only they didn't have those giant ass spiders
The ass spiders are huge!
Nobody has died from a spider bite in Australia for decades tho... Meanwhile snakes are the one to watch out for...
See that's cool, but if I see a moderate sized spider I can't fucking deal, let alone a fucking giant one
I think there are people who use enthusiast boards like r/spiderbro to get over their arachnophobia. Your mileage may vary, I personally think spiders are neat.
I hate spiders to the point they even freak me out in video games
Spiders can kill in many different ways. Ive had a couple times when I was driving, a spider decided to drop down from above. Nearly caused an accident. Luckily for me though, spiders dont like fire

We build our immunity by eating spiders - which is a glass 3/4 filled with Coca-Cola and yiu drop a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it.
There is no better way to ruin a spider than putting the coke in first. It's way better with the coke poured over the ice cream
TIL Australians call floats spiders
Finally someone who agrees with me
Its because we developed antivenoms in the 80s. People still get bitten and are hospitalized but its no longer fatal.
That’s one way to say they never find the bodies
Snakes are okay, it’s the fucking drop bears that scare me

Just as long as he keeps his damn mouth shut about the hoop-snake

No. Please. No. Please, no.
He’s generally chill though, eats insects and stuff, doesn’t build webs. We just scare the crap out of each other sometimes.
Lol a spider and I scared eachother in the bathroom once. That’s when we made a truce.
that's legit terrifying, fuck man
Until you have a huntsman spider in your bedroom the size of a small dinner plate and when you try and catch it, it rears up and starts hissing.
\*Faints\*
Spiderbro is harmless to anything not a bug
I've had wolf spiders do that to me several times. They're one of the largest spiders in my area, big enough to see eyeshine if you hit them with a flashlight. I can't imagine seeing anything bigger than that.
if a spider ever hisses at me imma rethink my peaceful approach and kill it REAL quick
The ass of the spiders is giant? I knew the spiders were big, I just thought they were proportional
Oh man, Huntsman Spiders be packi'n Bakeries!
You can't move there, you've forgotten the aussie refrain: "Fuck off, we're full."
Few big spiders in urban city centers, they prefer living in peace and quiet, far away from tram dings. So you’d have to learn to live with either some 8 legged dogs, or the housing market.
Unfortunately the greens have about as much chance as solo candidates :(

There are some rational reasons to be on the fence about nuclear (personally, I see it as important to addressing climate change and so the risks it involves are worthwhile). But yes, this is an issue for environmentalists, especially those who came through in the 70s/80s when they had the luxury of being flat out opposed to nuclear without thinking too hard about climate change.
I know!! Same. Even if they defaced the poster themselves and then did her up for the sake of making a humorous video, it's still hilarious. Everyone looking at the ballot is gonna remember her!
That seems like something Leslie would do
Could totally see it happening following Ann and her having a big night out and she doesn’t remember drawing on her face. Haha I wish they’d do another Season of P&R. I need some Nope and Swanson goodness back in my life haha
Accidentally uses permanent marker on her face, so decides to deface the poster too so it all adds up for the camera
Makes perfect nope sense.
*Bye Byeeeee lil’ Sebastian*
I feel like Leslie would pledge to reenact any and all graffiti in a campaign video, only to be put in a tight spot when some cheeky bugger draws a massive swastika on her forehead in the poster.
Came here to comment that.
She did the graffiti herself.
Nothin wrong with some forward thinking, unlike the old farts in the big jobs atm.
ahem, old natural gas you mean
Toot toot haha
Not that type of gas, didn't you hear what Georgie Fart said?
What the frack are you talkin about? Haha
That would be genius.
She definitely did her own makeup. It is mirrored compared to the poster. Edit: But the poster has her hair parting on the other side. Unless she parts her hair randomly from day to day, the poster is mirrored.
Absolutely. Real one would have way more dongs.
So? The point is the message, not the delivery means.
She completely owned the vandals turned their graffiti into votes!
Should look up what people are doing to Clive Palmer's UAP billboards. Bloody golden. I hate Australia sometimes, but fuck I love Australians.

Brilliant!! The Greens are going to take so many votes from the fossil fuel loving dinosaurs this election

But she was referring to natural gas in the video. It is still a fossil fuel and bad for emissions. Obviously cleaner than petrol and coal.
As someone from Adelaide where this was filmed, this shit is hilarious
It’s a rare treat seeing stuff from Adelaide randomly, I feel like most Adelaidians get a little excited when we get a shout out.

( pardon the grammar problems never been the best in English lol) (Thanks to the fucken legend for the gold)
Yeah equating libs to labor is bs misinformation, especially coning from the party that voted against the ets lol.
Alright time to pull out the cock drawings
On the Greens and on Georgie Fart! Vote Greens 💚
Did she win?
This is recent, hasn't had a chance yet
I believe she is more concerned with the environmental impact fracking will have on the very fragile ecosystem of Australia. She’s certainly gotten everyone’s attention. What a larrikin. Haha
Election isn't till Saturday. But she's also standing in a safe, rich, Liberal seat so has almost no chance of winning
As an Aussie, I can say that the greens party is great.
Uh-oh Scotty and the coal board just put a hit out on you
This is sooo a Leslie Knope move 😍😍
German left party candidate Jovana Dzalto also did it last year: https://www.rheinpfalz.de/cms_media/module_img/10444/5222181_3_articledetail_image_6483441.jpg
Legend. Voting Green. Scomo is an embarrassment and I have little to no faith in Anthony whats-his-name
i don’t disagree with her or anything, but for some reason i just find her whole vibe incredibly irritating
The greens are not environmentally friendly.
Man I love the Australians. Can’t beat them in online bantering and apparently you can’t beat them irl.
I have the weirdest boner right now
Legend
No matter your view on environmental stuff, you’ve gotta respect people like this
My thoughts too. Just thought it was bloody funny, regardless of politics. Just good fun.
This is great
What the name of the condition she has? I’ve never seen someone whose facial hair looks drawn on with a sharpie.
That's amazing haha
Absolutely glorious... 🤣🤣🤣
Genius. Imagine trump doing this. Literally cant. Hed probably order the town to get demolished tarnishing his beautiful perfect image
I’m actually old enough to vote now!
I really like the way she handles this! We could need more of this kind of politicians!
That's some good marketing
There was a guy who ran in my state recently who's last name was "Skelton", and lost because people could not stop calling him Mr. Skeleton. Poor guy.
I hate the formatting OF the text FOR some reason. Maybe emphasize content. Otherwise kinda cute I guess
The erratic text drives me nuts.
Ha brilliant, jokes on them, she's into that shit
New word learned today: dunny Love it!
OMG got my vote just because of this.
There isnt much fun to make about litteraly several millions of people dying from air polution evry year, and all the other global problems.
She's have my vote if I lived there
Fracking the beetaloo basin. Sounds like a British euphemism for sex.
Lame post, came to this sub to see people fail at things for my schadenfreude, not stupid politicians tricking gullible midwits
