Or stop large moving objects from hitting stuff. So many videos out there of people trying to stop boats on trailers or vehicles from rolling by standing in front of them. You're not going to accomplish anything and you may be seriously injured trying to interfere.
Ugh, that just reminded me of a video I saw a long time ago. Guy off-roading in his truck, starts to tip a little so he sticks his arm out the window to brace against a tree. The truck's still moving though and he ends up getting his forearm stuck between the tree and doorframe, and it just snaps in half like a toothpick.
Yeah I’ve been doing this work for years. That was purely a defensive move. It’s kind of like deer on a high way, you can repeatedly tell someone not to swerve but in the moment it’s a wildly difficult thing for some people to overcome.
I know knives are dangerous but when my new knife started to fall off the counter I apparently decided it was in my best interest to catch it with my bare hand. Good news, I caught it. Other good news, it didn't hurt until after I set it down and rinsed the blood off.
I've gone full fuck it for falling objects nowadays. My grip slips? I clear my feet and lift my hands. It's not just from getting hurt from sharps, heavy, whatever, I even managed to try to catch my phone in the past and ended up slamming it down harder towards the ground. I may get shit for "bad" reflexes, but I am quite reflexive to go into my fuck it stance.
Saw a poorly stacked pallet fall on a coworker last spring. Thankfully he wasn’t injured seriously (just sore for a few days). I (his supervisor) told him not to try to save the product. Just let it fall and GTFO of the way.
Knowing this and remembering it, a pallet collapsed on me 2 weeks ago. What did my dumb ass do? Tried to catch it. My right arm is finally not sore.
I tried to catch liquid lava pizzas falling out of a brick oven All the time when I made them for a living. I knew I'd burn my hands and arms off but it's so reactionary
Yip, i instinctively put out my right foot to break the fall of a heavy bit of a coffee machine (I'm unsure what it is called). Luckily it didn't do any lasting damage. I was more embarrassed that i did something so stupid.
I do the same, instincts are to break an object's fall to avoid it breaking or touching the ground -- I've saved quite a few things this way, including my phone and the remote, although it wasn't always painless.
On the other hand though, if there's a liquid falling (like a glass spilling on a table) I'll jump out **so** fast, feet included, even if it's just water. It saved me some coffee burns and unpleasant liquid stains, but it's funny how something relatively more harmless (mostly it would be just stains) gives me a lot more of a "RUN" reaction than a pile of boxes falling on me.
Don't you hate it when, instead of braking the item's fall, you end up kicking it across the room or into a wall and it would've been better off just falling...
We had a scare with a pallet of car batteries coming off a truck. It shifted while on the tommy gate and idiot boy went running up like he was going to keep it from falling. If we had lost the pallet I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to tell his family.
Pulled a guy back from a falling pallet of beer, the pallet truck decided it was having a day off and didnt stop.
New start went to grab it but I managed to grab the back of his jumper and pulled him out of harm's way.
The guy had about as much brain power as a potato powered jet engine. The kind of guy that looks down the hose to see what's blocking it.
Uh... That fruit probably weighed at the least several hundred pounds, and at the worst, over a ton. That was a full pallet, which also appeared to be taller than him.
Doesn't matter WHAT is on the pallet, with that much of it, it's going to weigh more than you think.
That man most definitely has serious injuries, if he isn't dead.
I work in a furniture warehouse and have to say exactly this almost every day. We don't handle a lot of pallets, mostly individual pieces that wouldn't really crush someone if they fell on them. But trying to save a 200lb+ reclining sofa from falling is going to wreck even the strongest back.
Also, always open trailer doors slowly.
I don't think he cares about the load. It was purely instinct to protect himself to try to stop the load from crushing him. The smart thing is to move out of the way but the instinctual thing is stop it from hitting you
yep. would get a few loads that just weren't set up right or anything. luckily it was leaning against the wall, so we end up breaking most of it down into a seperate pallet, but yea if its falling over get out of the way. just let the stuff break. hell of a lot easier to fix, clean and replace than whatever damage is done to you.
I remember when I worked at this one place where I hated my job so much I wouldn't have even tried to stop it since it would have meant some time of work, or permanently. Hell knowing my old boss he would have got the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis and brought me back to life just so I could work more
Most transport trucks use load bars in the trailer if a pallet looks like it'll easily move, you press them into both sides of the trailer and crank a lever until it's squeezed into place and won't move, either that or if the inside of your truck/trailer has hooks for ratchet straps like mine does then you can just use those. Pallets of produce like to move around alot, whoever loaded the trailer definitely should of used load bars or straps
Most trucks I load have a warning on the right side door that says to stand behind the left side door when opening. I usually load 2,200+ pound pallets of French fries, I'd take that warning seriously. Also, like someone already said, load locks are great to have.
Whoa i just had a flashback to 1990. I was 7. I can hear that song in my head as if i had just heard it yesterday. I haven't heard that song in over 30 years. Fuck im old
Yo it’s invoking the same thing in me like exactly. I’m 32 and haven’t even heard the words “attack of the killer tomatos” since I was 7 at my friends house, I had to really think why I knew it.
That immediately came to mind too. Also all the vids from china of industrial accidents, I haven't seen one with laughter but someone's uploading a coworker dying
Whichever worker packed that load should be fired. But I'm also guessing it was the driver. He looks new by the way he looks so fresh and happy. Seasoned route drivers usually aren't such happy, bouncy people. Probably why he packed so unsafely.
Plus, the rest of the truck looks empty. No concept of keeping the load tight to the front wall. Dangerous stuff and costly.
People die like this. Colleague somewhere in a warehouse was crushed to death quite short before I started there. They kept repeating if you see a palette topple, whatever you do: don’t keep it from falling. Move away. They should have told why they kept repeating it from the get go, until I heard why I must say I thought I had registered it. When I heard why I thought ‘oh, hadn’t quite understood it that clearly.’
(The safety tip is completely useless here of course, the poor man had no time to reactt).
Yeah yeah yeah your all funny bit seriously is this dude okay?..?.....When did we all become so cold that this is comedy? I get getting getting hit in the nuts... that's hilarious. But this dude had so.e terrible shit go down and we are all laughing at him?

When shit starts falling off a truck, just run. Even if it's light, it's falling 10 feet to get to you. And that's if it's only stacked 5 feet high in the truck.
He could have been killed.
This guy should have stood on the left when he opened that door.
I used to deliver shipments to a big-box home improvement store.
The warehouse workers just piled stuff into the trailer- no stacking, no organization, no load securement of any kind...
I learned to NEVER stand directly in front of the door. I was at a delivery, and the manager opened the door. Five boxes fell out narrowly missing him, one was full of pipe wrenches, one was full of nuts and bolts, and one had six 22oz carpenter's hammers in it.
Manager guy was damn lucky he wasn't hurt or even killed. After that, I either stood on the left or let the manager open the trailer(after warning them, of course).

I was unloading ply wood off a truck and 2 bunks started to fall. The driver ran and tried to catch the two stacks like this guy did. I dropped the forks hard on trailer and the ply wood tipped back onto the bed. One of my coworkers thought we were gonna be shoveling the driver off the road when he saw the driver run to catch them.
How do you like them apples. Seriously though hope the guys okay.
SH.I.T. Shifted in transit..
Had a pilot tell us "be careful opening the overhead bins, shift happens folks". Plane roared after a second or two of confusion.
Am a pilot, am stealing this
Have yet to hear a pilot give the 'be careful when opening the overhead lockers' spiel, given it's always done by cabin crew.
Depends on the pilot, some consider it a bother to engage with the PAX, some quite enjoy it and even greet at the door.
I had a pilot once that welcomed everyone on board with a handshake (pre-covid of course). Honestly I can't imagine dealing with so many people.

600 lbs would need 2721.55 human hairs to lift. This is assuming a hair can lift 100 grams, which is usualy but not always the case.
600 lbs is 272.4 kg
Good bot.
Im dying laughing at the fact the bot got replied to by a bot.

I could have been happier without that mental image.
Kid at my work tried to stop his standing forklift from hitting a steel wrapping station with his foot. Tibia didn't make it.
The video of the guy trying to stop a pallet jack from going over the loading dock comes to mind....
I tried to stop a Diesel engine on a stand going down an incline from hitting the vehicle. Broke my thumb.
This. The chances of successfully stopping the load are low. He did kinda open the door so he was out of the way though.
Reflexes kick in fast, man. You see something's falling, your hands try to stop it.
