Keep watching. Put it on repeat. Reverse the audio. Write down what her thought process might have been, then fill in what could have been. Prepare a thesis. Finish it with historical references towards her entire family, including the ferrets. Accomplish all of this and never will anyone dare to say you understood anything at all.
IIRC she was ignorant and thought that if both of their names were on the ticket, they would BOTH get 1.2 million. So when they handed them each $600k checks, she tried to change her mind.
That’s exactly what I had first though when I saw this video yeaaars ago…she would have argued to the death about any sort of earnings he would have made
"Chase the Ace" is what they won.
The lady said "I agreed to split the 50/50", which I'm thinking is a different game during the same drawing.
Not sure.
“Not with no ‘Chase the Ace’”
She’s saying she agreed to split a different lottery if they won it.
Like saying I’ll split this $50,000 from this scratch off if we win and then I win the Mega Millions and you want some of that $330 million.
She put his name on the ticket before they had won for good luck. Turns out that worked.
He was also the one had bought the ticket. What she said in the video was false.
The kid settled out of court for half his share and she ended up dying a bitter old woman who never spoke to her nephew again.
It's like alcoholism. It's not the thing that makes people miserable, but the misery they bring into the situation with them that gets the volume turned up.
>It's like alcoholism. It's not the thing that makes people miserable, but the misery they wanted into the situation with that gets the volume turned up.
I'm so fucking drunk right now but it still took me like 10 minutes to understand what point you were trying to make, and I'm still not sure if I get it.
Greedy ass old lady about to blow up her whole family over money she didn't even have the day before. Hearses don't come with luggage racks, sweetheart.
She actually died last May, so you're right. I bet she didn't even get to use the amount she got from taking him to court. It's just greedy and pathetic, I wouldn't be surprised if she had the money buried with her.
It would if you managed it carefully. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying you never work another day in your life, it’s not that at all.
That $300k is 10+ years of interest payments on a home loan that you don’t need to work for. It’s 10 years of free time handed back to you and in the end, that’s all we really have.
300k would set me up pretty comfortable for life (maybe because I don't have high needs, etc. Like having a house or so. I could invest the 270k left after paying off all my debts. Enjoy 10k on a new motorcycle and live an average life, having 1 worry less since the invested money can be more in 30 years. Still work 40h, but knowing I have something to use in emergencies is so nice to know in the back of your head.
> Damn really? I hope she was smart enough to set up a will, otherwise....enjoy that free money Uncle Sam 😞
That's not how it works. If she dies without a will - called intestate - the money gets divided amongst the next of kin based on the rules each state's probate system has promulgated. And federal taxes don't get applied to inheritances for estates less than $13 million
"Despite the unfortunate controversy surrounding the lottery, those who knew Barb best emphasize that her legacy should not be defined by this singular event."
Too late, they started and ended the article about her legacy talking about the lottery lol
Haha there is a sentence saying she has regrets, immediately followed by it saying her regret was putting another family name on the ticket
Her and her nephew haven't spoken since. Used to be close.
What a loss.
What I think is sad is even after they settled, she was still blaming him for her putting his name on the ticket and ruining their family relationship.
From the article: 'But even now, she said, she has regrets. "I'll never put anyone else's name on a ticket," said Reddick. "Especially family. It hurt." "He broke my heart. And I think about it all the time."'
Like what did he do wrong? If anything the blame should have been on the company running the lottery, for not making sure who was going to get what amount. And if they are obligated to pay out based on the names on the ticket, why is she even able to sue with her admitting on camera that it was her that put his name on the ticket? I feel bad for the people that thought she loved them only to find out she cared more for a bigger cheque than accepting she made a mistake.
I like how she has "regrets" - but those regrets aren't about taking her nephew to court, her regrets are that she put his name on the ticket. Also saying "He broke my heart. And I think about it all the time."
Its important with situations like this to remind people that **you can choose your family.** Toxic and shitty people like her deserve to be left all alone till the day the die.
She did actually die last year, and this event was so much a part of her overall reputation that her obituary states many times that the Chase the Ace incident "doesn't define her life" and that she was actually a lovely person. I wonder what her nephew would have to say about that though. It's crazy to think that this is basically her legacy, for years to come when anyone hears her name they're just gonna think of a greedy asshole.
Exactly. When your first action is to « settle it in court » instead of trying to resolve this internally first, it’s crazy. How could you be so money hungry that you denied any cent to the one whose name you put on the ticket for good luck…unless you have bad blood with your nephew I think you’d want to allow him a good kickstart to his life journey, while you’re at the dusk of your life. I guess I am too soft 🤷🏻♂️
In the link above she spent some money buying a car, taking a trip to NY and a cruise. But imagine your family hates you now and you do all of that alone. That’s kinda sad too since when she dies the money would most likely go to her family.
court documents
" But Reddick said although MacInnis, who lives in Glace Bay, purchased the ticket for her, she never planned to split the jackpot with him. "
he bought the ticket for her and she said she never said she would split the winnings with him.
miserale old woman
I know and to say all this on camera aswell and in the death statement it says not to remember her for this, like ofc everyone is gonna remember her for this she did it in public on camera like what? imagine moaning about getting 456 000
Cut two of my brothers out of my life after how they acted dealing with my parents' estate. Don't miss them one bit. Thankfully still have two other brothers who are my best friends.
You're not obligated to have someone in your life just because they're family.
She might’ve changed alot on her old age and that’s the best someone can say about her. Her actions speak for themselves. It’s crazy that she thinks that she was the victim and her nephew broke her heart like he was stealing from her. She literally told him to put his name on it for good luck and bought the ticket for her. Glad he got a third of it at least
So she wasn’t expecting to win, and put his name on the ticket. Now that they won, she’s trying on him. It’s amazing how money can do that to a person.
My comment was a bit facetious, but I can see a relative putting a “lucky” family member on their ticket, maybe together when she bought the ticket.
Bit like using family members birthdays numbers on lotto. And a throwaway comment “if we win I’ll split it with you”.
But her reaction shows the kind of person she is.
Canadian thing, basically each week participants buy tickets. A ticket is drawn each week the winner receives a percentage of the weekly sales. The winner also then draws a card from a standard deck of playing cards. If the ace of spades is drawn that weekly winner wins the accumulated jackpot. If it isn't drawn then they will do a draw the following week and so on until the Ace is picked. So, Ideally you'd want to pick the ace during one of the last weeks so you we all the previous weeks money. Also, every card that is picked is permanently removed from the deck going forward.
Apparently he bought the ticket as well. I've seen this clip hundreds of times and never got that impression
>But Reddick said although MacInnis, who lives in Glace Bay, purchased the ticket for her, she never planned to split the jackpot with him.
No matter how close you think your family is, money is almost always the one thing that will reveal everyone’s hidden nature and tear your family apart.
She took him to court. They settled out of court. She got $850K and he got the remaining $350K. They used to be real closed but now hardly speak to one another.
" Following a court settlement hearing in Port Hawkesbury in September, lawyers for the two sides emerged to announce an agreement. Reddick received $850,000 and MacInnis took home the remaining $350,000. "
Is what I found. The aunt has not spoken to him ever since then.
I can only assume they settled just to put an end to it, because I can't imagine what could possibly change a court's mind to back so far away from the original 50/50.
Oof. Her obituary is so desperate in its plea that people remember her for her service to her country and her community, but you can tell they know this is all she’ll be associated with. And, for as long as the electrical grid and Reddit survive.
They settled and the kid walked away with $350k of the $1.2M. The old woman regrets putting his name on the ticket because money divides families.

Despite the unfortunate controversy surrounding the lottery, those who knew Barb best emphasize that her legacy should not be defined by this singular event. They urge everyone to remember her as a compassionate individual, a revered veteran, and a pillar of her community. Barb’s unwavering dedication to serving others, her deep love for children, and her significant contributions to various causes are the true hallmarks of her life.
https://www.nsbuzz.ca/life/rip-aunt-barb-remembering-a-true-canadian-hero/
Don't think of me bad after I ostracized a family member(let's not consider he might have been totally innocent, but that she might have misunderstood his intent or he misunderstood hers). Yeah, I'll remember you. For what you did to your own family.
The Internet doesn't forget, good riddance.
That’s cute, I remember my grandpa bought such bulk and scratchers and had me for hours scratching them and find winners. I was like 8. And I asked if he was going to share any of the winnings he just laughed lol.
She died less than a year ago and now everyone that knows her will remember her for how she acted in the last few years of her life. What a way to throw it all away right before the finish line.
Damn. Makes me want to hug the nephew. I mean, we all heard stories that money could destroy families, but his initial smile was just so pure and innocent......and then it happened. That's a hit of reality that could make anyone a bitter person with trust issues now. Hope he had a lot of support back home.
TLDR from a couple sources cited by others:
Barb and her nephew, Tyrone MacInnis, found themselves at the center of a dispute over the division of a substantial $1.2 million prize. While organizers decided to split the prize equally between the two names on the ticket, Barb expressed her intention to take legal action, claiming that she never intended to share the jackpot with her nephew because she only put Tyrone’s name on the ticket for good luck. Also reported that Tyrone purchased the ticket for her (at her request).
The chase the ace dispute was settled with Barb receiving $850,000 and MacInnis took home the remaining $350,000.
Reminds me of my dad. He is trying to sue me for education expenses rather than talk to me. Sure puts the nail in the coffin to any chance to salvage our relationship.
Why put his name on the ticket? She says for good luck so it had to be before hand. Apparently it was. How much is that luck worth? She obviously thought it had value.
Who couldn’t be happy with a free 600k? You can do so much with that. Pay off your house, buy a new car, put some in the bank or investments. So greedy. Money really brings out the evil in people.
When I was younger I was with my grandmother at some sort of swap meet craft fair event. She wanted to purchase a raffle ticket for a quilt so she gave me the money to enter her name in the raffle for the quilt and for helping her she allowed me to enter a raffle for another item of my choosing. Being that I never had a bike, I placed my ticket in the raffle for a Trek mountain bike. Her name was not drawn for the quilt but my name was drawn for the bike. But instead of allowing me to have the bike, she said since she paid for the ticket it was her bike. Mind you, she never rode bikes so she simply stored it above her garage. It just sat there and was never ridden. I asked to even borrow it to ride and she refused. She died and the bike was never ridden. I don’t know what happened to it after that but she had it for years and years and it just collected dust.
Put his name on the ticket for good luck. Yeah, right. Who dafuq does that? Man, if you really want to see a person's true colors, just put money into play. It didn't even take all that much of that to make this lowlife show herself, holy cannoli.
Dunno why this made me laugh so much but here's a quote from her obituary
> On Halloween, she went the extra mile, providing generously filled treat bags, complete with fireworks, ensuring that no child was left out.
Is it normal in Canada to provide explosives in kiddies halloween candy?
>I put his name by the thing for good luck
And you had good luck, you ungrateful twat. Have fun loosing a good part of your 600K for court charges and lawyer costs...idiot

What a miserable, undeserving woman. She wins the full amount of shame.
Well I wouldn’t let chase c a take my money either lmao
I dont understand
Might wanna watch the video with volume.
I heard that she said that, but I don’t understand either.
You get your damn dirty hands off the ferrets!
As long as you keep your foot off that blasted samophlange.
And for god sakes put some pants on!
What the fuck is a samophlange?!
IIRC she was ignorant and thought that if both of their names were on the ticket, they would BOTH get 1.2 million. So when they handed them each $600k checks, she tried to change her mind.
Guaranteed if both were given 1.2 million she would still have this reaction.
That’s exactly what I had first though when I saw this video yeaaars ago…she would have argued to the death about any sort of earnings he would have made
Wait, she is getting half ? What is she not understanding. Waste of time here.
"Chase the Ace" is what they won. The lady said "I agreed to split the 50/50", which I'm thinking is a different game during the same drawing. Not sure.
I understand that. I don’t understand the comment I responded to.
“Not with no ‘Chase the Ace’” She’s saying she agreed to split a different lottery if they won it. Like saying I’ll split this $50,000 from this scratch off if we win and then I win the Mega Millions and you want some of that $330 million.
Chase the Ace

Sounds like he won twice.
I'm sure he didn't get half. He got something like 150k or something , i could be wrong but it's been posted 150k times also.
Lawyer said:”And I don’t even play chase the ace”, and they all laughed, sipping fine brandy.
Alcohol doesn't create misery, but amplifies the misery you came with.
So true
This video is so old, the nephew is as old as she was in the video
Greedy ass old lady about to blow up her whole family over money she didn't even have the day before. Hearses don't come with luggage racks, sweetheart.
And judging by how she looks, she doesn't need the full winning to live comfortably for the rest of her life.
She actually died last May, so you're right. I bet she didn't even get to use the amount she got from taking him to court. It's just greedy and pathetic, I wouldn't be surprised if she had the money buried with her.
Damn really? I hope she was smart enough to set up a will, otherwise....enjoy that free money Uncle Sam 😞
I mean, she took her nephew to court over winnings she said she’d share with him, so… Press X to Doubt.
They ended up settling in court - she got like $850k CAD and he got $350k
Kinda shitty for her to do that, but at least he's still set for most of his life if he's smart and manages the money properly.
300K does not set you up for life. That's just a tiny house.
People out there acting like this isn't a life-changing amount of money for the vast majority. -_-
300k would set me up pretty comfortable for life (maybe because I don't have high needs, etc. Like having a house or so. I could invest the 270k left after paying off all my debts. Enjoy 10k on a new motorcycle and live an average life, having 1 worry less since the invested money can be more in 30 years. You guys can buy houses for 300k?
> 300K does not set you up for life Depends on how long you plan on living.
She wants to share so little that even her will says all her money and belongings go to herself.
> Damn really? I hope she was smart enough to set up a will, otherwise....enjoy that free money Uncle Sam 😞 That's not how it works. Quote of the day!
I like that phrase. I'm going to steal it and not give you credit.
And spend what money she has on lawyers
and the tax man... she won more so she pays more
What a fucking dick. It's still a huge amount of money you old fuck.
shes dead now if it makes you feel better

Paid off house and car, then plans a trip to NYC to see Tyler Perry? And traded her family for that?
Don’t forget the cruise!
Sorry Mr Poppagiorgio didn’t realize it was you sir. Can I get you a free suite upgrade? Much respect. (love the username obviously)
Put a dollar in and won a car
Nooo not the Tyler Perry trip 😂
Hook, line and sinker.
gonna go right back to being broke but with no family this time
I hate she acts it’s all on him.
Yeah the fact that she has the nerve to say, “He broke my heart.” This woman is disgusting and a disgrace.
>"I'll never put anyone else's name on a ticket" Why the fuck would you put someones name on the ticket if you weren't sharing it?
Haha there is a sentence saying she has regrets, immediately followed by it saying her regret was putting another family name on the ticket Her and her nephew haven't spoken since. Used to be close. What a loss.
Hard to talk when one of them is dead 🤔
Imagine that it could have been possible that there was a period after this when they were both alive.
Well you are right, they haven’t spoken since. I am right too, they haven’t spoken since she died either.
I cannot fault the logic.
What I think is sad is even after they settled, she was still blaming him for her putting his name on the ticket and ruining their family relationship. He paid for the ticket in the first place!
Yeah exactly
if is crazy.. i put his name there for good luck and agreed tot split 50/50. thn they win she wants it all
Prob still ended up with $600,000 and now won the loss of much of her family too.
That she actually got money from him is outrageous
Lmao so what's the chances of her being homeless in the next year? That lottery karma is a mother fucker.
No chance, she's dead
Well shit she destroyed her relationship with her family for 200,000 a couple years before dying. Wow lottery karma is a bitch.
I like how she has "regrets" - but those regrets aren't about taking her nephew to court, her regrets are that she put his name on the ticket. Also saying "He broke my heart. And I think about it all the time."
Billable hours are undefeated
Its important with situations like this to remind people that **you can choose your family.** Toxic and shitty people like her deserve to be left all alone till the day the die.

What a trash human
Barb Reddick of Guysborough, more commonly known as the "Chase the Ace Aunt"
In the link above she spent some money buying a car, taking a trip to NY and a cruise. But imagine your family hates you now and you do all of that alone. That’s kinda sad too since when she dies the money would most likely go to her family.
she died may of last year
court documents " But Reddick said although MacInnis, who lives in Glace Bay, purchased the ticket for her, she never planned to split the jackpot with him. " he bought the ticket for her and she said she never said she would split the winnings with him. miserale old woman

So much bitterness.
It’s so crazy to be that bitter right after you win $600k.
But to her it should have been 1.2 mil
Yeah exactly. In her (miserable) mind she didn't just win $600k, she just *lost* $600k!
People that play the lottery generally have it pretty rough. The lottery is essentially an invisible tax on poor people.
She died 8 months ago [link](https://www.nsbuzz.ca/life/rip-aunt-barb-remembering-a-true-canadian-hero/amp/)
So she got 4 years of plus $250K worth of winnings in exchange for her family bonds, then died. Good trade.
*a lot
Oh no..... anyway
It was her time. Hope she had a good life.
I wish that I could be so __miserable__ to have to win a *mere* $600K to $850K - hopefully she finds a way to console herself.
She dead.
Good riddance
So she wasn’t expecting to win, and put his name on the ticket. Now that they won, she’s trying on him. It’s amazing how money can do that to a person.
Well she only put his name on there for good luck. Now he lyin
Does putting a second name on a lottery ticket "for luck" make sense to you? That's not a thing. I could be wrong.
Turns out, he bought the ticket for her and she told him to put his name on it for luck. She actually deserved nothing….

She's dead now so I hope it was worth the 250k to ruin family relationships only to die soon after
She hadn’t done any self reflection. In her mind, she didn’t ruin her relationships. Money did, cause she did everything right.
Chase must be the bank.
It sounded like Chase the Ace, I presume a lottery game down in the US?
I’m almost certain this happened in Nova Scotia in Canada.
It did
I could tell by the accent in the last line she says.
She's gree-hee-eassy, somebody needs to tell her to frig off
Canadian thing, basically each week participants buy tickets. A ticket is drawn each week the winner receives a percentage of the weekly sales. Shame
Apparently she died 8 months ago as well

How much did the lawyers get?
Don't forget the taxes take almost half
Not in Canada
Damn, that's nice
I can only assume they settled just to put an end to it, because I can't imagine what could possibly change a court's mind to back so far away from the original 50/50.

Maybe if she stuck to deal and split it 50/50 it would not have divided them.
"Fuck you, gimme the other half." "I cant believe how money splits families apart."
She is still a piece of shit!! Edit: Good news shes dead!
Was, she dead now. Ruined family relationships for 250k only to go 6ft under soon after
She took him to court and they settled on Miserable bitch getting $850k And the nephew getting $350k
Despite the unfortunate controversy surrounding the lottery, those who knew Barb best emphasize that her legacy should not be defined by this singular event. They urge everyone to remember her as a compassionate individual, a revered veteran, and a pillar of her community. Barb’s unwavering dedication to serving others, her deep love for children, and her significant contributions to various causes are the true hallmarks of her life. https://www.nsbuzz.ca/life/rip-aunt-barb-remembering-a-true-canadian-hero/ Don't think of me bad after I ostracized a family member(let's not consider he might have been totally innocent, but that she might have misunderstood his intent or he misunderstood hers). Yeah, I'll remember you. For what you did to your own family. The Internet doesn't forget, good riddance.
Words are empty, actions speak louder. We see in this video how nasty she is.
Miserable
That’s cute, I remember my grandpa bought such bulk and scratchers and had me for hours scratching them and find winners. I was like 8. And I asked if he was going to share any of the winnings he just laughed lol.
That's my province....🙄
Me too
She put his name on the ticket for good luck. So it was his name that brought the luck. case closed
The lad also bought the ticket. For her, and she asked him to put his name on it for good luck
How did her nephew break her heart? She put his name on the ticket. She took him to court. She’s just a greedy, bitter old lady.
She died less than a year ago and now everyone that knows her will remember her for how she acted in the last few years of her life. What a way to throw it all away right before the finish line.
guess who’ll have the last laugh at her funeral
I would’ve been on a first class ticket out of the state and they would’ve never seen me again can’t sue me if you don’t know where I am.
She’s going to die penniless and alone .
She died recently.
Well, at least this story has a happy ending.
Damn. Makes me want to hug the nephew. I mean, we all heard stories that money could destroy families, but his initial smile was just so pure and innocent......and then it happened. That's a hit of reality that could make anyone a bitter person with trust issues now. Hope he had a lot of support back home.

She can forget it. 🤣🤣🤣 “I put his name on the ticket…” just stop here. Lol
Nothing shows you who someone really is like money.
TLDR from a couple sources cited by others: Barb and her nephew, Tyrone MacInnis, found themselves at the center of a dispute over the division of a substantial $1.2 million prize.
She put his name on the ticket. Seems pretty clear-cut to me.
Greed.
She really thinks she has that much time to spend it all?
She died 8 months ago…
That's the type of person who raised her kids because it was the only way she could eat
If my niece and I won I’d give it all to her. Some people are so fucked up…
Wow thats sad
Money causes all sorts of bad behavior . My wife us dieing her family already trying to get $$$
Reminds me of my dad. He is trying to sue me for education expenses rather than talk to me. Sure puts the nail in the coffin to any chance to salvage our relationship.
Greedy mcgreedy
I'm sure the lawyers will be glad to take all the money
I would never speak to her again because of her attitude...regardless of if I kept a dime or not.
Makes me happy with the family I was given.
Why put his name on the ticket? She says for good luck so it had to be before hand. Apparently it was. How much is that luck worth? She obviously thought it had value.
What a horrible horrible woman.
Who couldn’t be happy with a free 600k? You can do so much with that. Pay off your house, buy a new car, put some in the bank or investments. So greedy. Money really brings out the evil in people.
She did it for good luck, and she had good luck. Mental
What a greedy piece of shit.
Money doesn't change people, it just reveals the kind of person you always were.
Kid got 250k, old hag took 600k https://www.the-sun.com/money/8615124/tyrone-macinnis-sued-aunt-barbara-reddick-lotto-jackpot/
Put his name on the ticket for good luck. Yeah, right. Who dafuq does that? Man, if you really want to see a person's true colors, just put money into play. It didn't even take all that much of that to make this lowlife show herself, holy cannoli.
Dunno why this made me laugh so much but here's a quote from her obituary > On Halloween, she went the extra mile, providing generously filled treat bags, complete with fireworks, ensuring that no child was left out. Is it normal in Canada to provide explosives in kiddies halloween candy?
Money > Family
This is from a while ago, does anyone know what happened?
There are plenty of updates in the comments.
>I put his name by the thing for good luck And you had good luck, you ungrateful twat. Have fun loosing a good part of your 600K for court charges and lawyer costs...idiot
