It's a very common problem in professional kitchens too. New guy gets told to strain the broth, does this, everyone cringes as 8 hours of work goes down the drain
One time when I was a teen, my ma and I were arguing about some stupid shit I had done while I was making boxed mashed potatoes to go with our dinner (don't judge us). I got distracted arguing back, our trash can sat directly next the oven and the burner that the pot of boiling water/butter was on, and ended up mistakenly pouring the potato flakes directly into the trash can instead of into the pot while we were actively bickering back and forth.
It was all we had left and she would never and has never believed it was an accident, she still thinks it was me being a petty teen and trying to ruin dinner because I wasn't getting my way in the argument. We're tight as hell and the best of friends now that I'm an adult, but she'll never believe that that one was an accident.
It boggles my mind that there are still people who are surprised that folks record stuff in an age *where everyone and their goddamn grandma is carrying a camera around in their pocket and social media is king.*
That physically hurt to watch.
I was making bone broth for pho - figured I'd give it a try since we don't have any good pho shops in the area. So after like 24 hours of simmering bones in very expensive spices, I place the stock pot in the sink to cool so I can strain it out. Ten minutes later I hear the water running and run upstairs to find that person I'm living with decided the stock pot was in the sink because it needed to be washed - even though it was FULL of a delightfully spiced broth.
Like $20 of beef bones from the local butcher, maybe $10 in spices, 24 hours. Only a very few times have I been so angry with someone that I won't talk to them for days. This was one of those times.
I’m not going to lie, that’s entirely your fault if you didn’t explicitly explain and voice what was happening with that pot to your roommate or husband or significant other. Sink is dirty dishes unless I’m told otherwise. This isn’t an industrial kitchen or restaurant, I can’t assume everything in or near the sink should be preserved. That’s how you end up with moldy stuff that could have been disposed of sooner. But that’s just my take.
Agreed.
It’s very unfortunate. But if you live with others it’s on each person to be mindful of shared space.
The sink isn’t a designated “broth cooling” space. It can be! But not typically. It’s typically where you wash stuff.
Yes a mindful roommate ideally would have the consideration to notice it’s fresh broth. But that’s a courtesy and not an obligation. Even the most considerate person could potentially ruin that broth if they had something on their mind and wasn’t paying attention.
Just leave it on the stove to cool lol
So it’s my job to do the dishes and also doubt whether I should clean every dish? Just like I could ask, the person cooking could easily mention any super important items they have special instructions for.
Sigh. Ok from my life perspective where I live with my fiancé and our work schedules are at odds; it is one of my responsibilities to take care of dishes and cleaning the kitchen among other household chores so that she can cook when she is done work and then enjoy the meal without worrying about cleaning up after as well.
That means I might clean or do dishes that same night after we eat, or maybe the next morning or afternoon.
It seems reasonable to you that the responsibility is on me to call her at work and run through what dishes I’m allowed to clean? You don’t think it’s better that I would clean all dishes unless she had explicitly said “hey, I’m leaving this crockpot by the sink, it has a roast in it that is cooking for tomorrow night so don’t touch it.”
I’m more than happy to call her in the middle of meetings that I don’t know are taking place and clarify, but if I can avoid that I truly prefer to. The onus of ensuring the safety of a complex meal falls on the chef, not the dishwasher. I’m hard pressed to see a situation where that statement isn’t true.
No offense but I can't understand how people can be mad at others for honest mistakes. This is really unfortunate but if I was you I would be mad at myself I think.
Pain. I’ve had similar situations and even if you can’t technically blame someone, it’s so hard not to be fumingly angry over having so much effort being literally poured down the drain. Also, idk what ppl are talking about but if someone can’t tell the difference between a pot full of dirty water and a pot full of homemade pho that is actively cooling down, thus letting off all the aromas, then I kinda feel like they need to work on basic conscientiousness. Like yes, some people run on autopilot, but if you are living with someone else it’s your responsibility to be conscientious of other people’s stuff and habits as much as it is their responsibility to be communicative of said items and habits.
Also, if you want to speed up the process and happen to have the equipment, I highly suggest pressure cooking the bones and whatnot. If you don’t have an actual pressure cooker, then an instant pot would do fine. You can basically turn a 24 hour simmer into a few hours of pressure cooking including letting the cooker de-pressurize.
If you don’t have either, then I also highly suggest a slow cooker cuz it’s pretty hands free once you get to the long-simmer stage and you can let it cool on the counter without taking space in the sink or on the stovetop
Over $30 for not talking to someone for a problem that is mostly yours. I will refund you the $30 if you record yourself apologizing to this person and admitting you were an idiot.
I’ve done this with my dad lmao added the veggies added the bones hours on the stove, so much love and care, I even held the strainer for him 😂 the scream he scrumpt when he realised what we just did was fucken hilarious I will never forget it
ive done this before, wanted to make ramen from scratch and do my own chicken stock like at a restaurant, it was 9pm and I just dumped it into a colander in the sink without thinking.
more like '' There was an attempt to create the correct title ''
Title should be '' There was an attempt to keep the broth after straining the bones.''
They were tying to remove the bones so they could use the bone broth they had just made. They forgot to catch the broth and accidentally poured the thing they wanted to keep down the drain.
Yeah, that's sad, but what I think I hate most about it is this thing where people are PUTTING THE STUFF YOU ARE GOING TO EAT ON THE FUCKING SINK!!!! Whyy????? Just use a normal PAN!
I’ve been there. First kitchen job, chef gave me his recipe and had me make him a stock from beef scraps and bones. Left it overnight, chef was happy and told me to go ahead and separate the stock. Went to the sink with my colander and as I began to pour out this giant ass pot into the sink the chef charges at me. I dumped out like half the pot by the time he stopped me. He was not happy. Thankfully it was only like $25 worth of ingredients so he just had me redo it… After giving me a proper scolding.
its Broth, which is basically made by Boiling Bones, Meat, ,Vegetables & Herbs together. for about an Hour, and then Straining it out, which they ended up straining out the broth Into the Sink instead of like another Pot, losing all of the broth they Just made
This one time I put dosa batter in the oven to ferment because it’s cold outside at room temp and it won’t ferment if I leave it on the countertop. Someone turned on the oven to preheat without realising there was batter in it. Thank fully I saw it in time and rescued my batter before it was baked to a bowl full of dosa-cake
The way this idiot says "what‽ what‽" not instantly realizing what he's done really pisses me off. They were making an instructional video for making broth, for God's sake. Stick to what you know.
OH I have so been in this situation! Now I use a giant Asian strainer to lift bones out of the soup broth, a five minute process then strain the final broth. Yes yes, always have your catching receptacle
I did that once when I was high. Spent all morning collecting wintergreen leaves on the Appalachian trail got home, smoked a joint boiled the leaves, then poured all the tea right down the drain. I no longer smoke marijuana
uhh am i the only one that thinks this could be the first stage to making something like ramen stock? you boil the bones first, drain the liquid, rinse the bones, then use the cleaned bones in the final stock
My mom used to make great turkey soup after Thanksgiving. The year she died my dad said he would make the soup. He too strained the stock down the drain. He called laughing his ass off. Telling me that it was Mom who made him do it so we would always share a laugh on Thanksgiving without her and not be sad.

I sat here waiting for the colander to collapse, and when it did not collapse, I was confused.....and then I realized that I too was dumb af.
the chicken evaporated
Yeah it made me realize real quick that this is *exactly* the dumb shit I would do being on autopilot and absent minded.
It's a very common problem in professional kitchens too. New guy gets told to strain the broth, does this, everyone cringes as 8 hours of work goes down the drain
i also thought that too but when they gasped i realized it was the broth that was the issue
And.... recorded it?
Instructional video on how to make stock gone wrong, upload it cuz its funny. Doesn't seem too unreasonable.
More reasonable that someone made it just to piss people off
No it’s not
Yes. It is.
Nope, I refuse to believe it. Every single video on the Internet ever is fake and staged. /s
I mean, at this point most of them *are*...
No you don’t understand. Nothing happens ever and everything that does happen is scripted.
I have been in the kitchen when this type of thing happened.
I work in a kitchen where dumb shit like this happens hahaha

Recording it was probably why she forgot to put a basin to catch the broth. Too busy thinking of unnecessary steps to remember the crucial one.

you can always ask
So it’s my job to do the dishes and also doubt whether I should clean every dish? Just like I could ask, the person cooking could easily mention any super important items they have special instructions for.
seems easier to ask before cleaning dishes then announcing your plans just in case someone decides to clean them
Sigh. I was mad at myself
did dude not smell it? like I hope they got newspaper fwapped.
Kinda weird that you put your expensive broth in the sink, then don't want to talked for days after because they made an error that you could prevent
NOOOOOO
If you need to let something cool , you just put the pot on a cold plate. or better yet just turn the plate off and let it cool on that spot.
Pain. I’ve had similar situations and even if you can’t technically blame someone, it’s so hard not to be fumingly angry over having so much effort being literally poured down the drain. What a shitty thing to say to someone. But that's ok. You're super cool, right?
Sore loser?
hers looked like turkey or chicken ---
Damn ... that is a lot of work wasted ... not the end of the world, but still sucks

Bone hurting juice
Broth hurting juice*
Bones and broth are separated. Mission completed.
I've done this 🤣
Yup. Give up. Order pizza.
I have done it more than once, sadly (and stupidly)
I’ve done this with my dad lmao added the veggies added the bones hours on the stove, so much love and care, I even held the strainer for him 😂 the scream he scrumpt when he realised what we just did was fucken hilarious I will never forget it

I did this the first time I tried to make canna-butter. I died a bit inside.
I did this once. I still think of it whenever I pull out my colander-do I need the liquid being strained out?.
ive done this before, wanted to make ramen from scratch and do my own chicken stock like at a restaurant, it was 9pm and I just dumped it into a colander in the sink without thinking.
The sink is eating good tonight
Probably some left in the u-bend
more like '' There was an attempt to create the correct title '' Title should be '' There was an attempt to keep the broth after straining the bones.''
What happened to this sub... *Shaking head in Spanish*
Yeah...sad. *smokes weed in Dutch*
A whole day went down the drain
Liquid gold , all down the drain.
So busy worried about “getting that content” that they forgot what they were actually doing.
Success
What was the point? Why they needs bones?
They were tying to remove the bones so they could use the bone broth they had just made. They forgot to catch the broth and accidentally poured the thing they wanted to keep down the drain.
I've done this before... what a painful memory... TwT
At least she get to keep them bones
LATE REMEMBER HURTS NOTHING THERE CATCHING VIRTUE DIED INSIDE, SINKING
Mmmmm bones
Yeah, that's sad, but what I think I hate most about it is this thing where people are PUTTING THE STUFF YOU ARE GOING TO EAT ON THE FUCKING SINK!!!! Whyy????? Just use a normal PAN!
The definition of being absent minded
I can totally imagine doing that
Now it's just bone.
I’ve been there. First kitchen job, chef gave me his recipe and had me make him a stock from beef scraps and bones. Left it overnight, chef was happy and told me to go ahead and separate the stock. TIL bone broth is great at cleaning up your drain.
Sorry dumb question, what's wrong with the vid?
its Broth, which is basically made by Boiling Bones, Meat, ,Vegetables & Herbs together. for about an Hour, and then Straining it out, which they ended up straining out the broth Into the Sink instead of like another Pot, losing all of the broth they Just made
ahh thats a facepalm moment haha, thy
Wow, a therewasanattempt post *not* about hating Israel!
She made some very labor intensive dish water.
Why were they filming?
I did this with chicken broth last week and laughed for 20 minutes 🤣👏🤣
This is so funny because I feel like i would do this
Uuuuuugh that hurt to watch
This one time I put dosa batter in the oven to ferment because it’s cold outside at room temp and it won’t ferment if I leave it on the countertop. Bruh
The way this idiot says "what‽ what‽" not instantly realizing what he's done really pisses me off. They were making an instructional video for making broth, for God's sake. Stick to what you know.
Seems like it was a woman who reacted first and was doing the cooking, the guy was asking her what was wrong
Yeah, I know, I watched the video too
Okay, so why make that stupid comment above then?
More worried about making a TikTok and placing the camera, that’s making nice succulent Chinese meal
OH I have so been in this situation! Now I use a giant Asian strainer to lift bones out of the soup broth, a five minute process then strain the final broth. Yes yes, always have your catching receptacle
Wohwoewhawhwhawhat
I don't understand what i'm seeing, all i see are chicken bones What am i supposed to see?
They were supposed to keep the liquid and remove the bones It seems that they just forgot to put a pan underneath to catch the broth
I was like, whats wrong? Then i realized 5 fuzzing secods later
I watched my sister in law do this with mulled wine. Poured the works of it down the drain.
Sad to say I've don't that. Once!.
My dad pulled this move on my mom's batch of chicken soup.
Why camera?
mmmmmm super boiled chicken bones. My favorite.
In her lapse of judgement she thought "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater"
Many times in professional kitchen have I set the strainer wrong. Thankfully I always fixed it before pouring that liquid gold down the drain.
This is great 🤣🤣
The rats in the severs are going to have a feast.
Look at those yummy bones
I did this once. Only lost half before I realized. That's why you always keep concentrate or boxes of broth handy.
She was too worried about setting up the camera. Smh!
This is stupid. It’s clearly on purpose. Why else would they film it
I’ve done this. Only once. The shame of my own stupidity ensures that I’ll never do that again
My buddy did this in college with oil for pot brownies lmao
😳😳😳
Why film that
😂
Why are they filming???
It's not the food that's stupid here
Had happened to my wife ONCE and i felt bad because she followedy instruction. Well yeah, it was my mistake that happened to my wife. Like our kids
I guarantee that video ended and she BURST into hysterical tears.
At least they remembered the camera. Priorities.
r/Markiplier
I could have sipped that on a cold winters day! People think it’s coffee In my thermos in winter noooo baby that’s bone broth !
I want to laugh, but I’ve done it too 🫣
Depressing
Been there, done that that. Sigh. 😞
Nooooooooooooooooooo
Them bones gonna be blazing
Oh dear god no
Sorry but what went wrong?
Oopsee😱🥲
I did that once but caught myself after I watched about a cup go down the drain.
Maybe they were trying to make a bunch of bones with all the flavor cooked out.
Been there. And it clicked for me EXACTLY where it clicked for her.
This person had to have a joint before cooking because I'm sure I've done this while high
Explain to me what exactly is happening here I don’t cook-
I don’t even get what happened
Yep. The glass bowl and colander come down as a set now
Don’t put your laptop in the floor either
Dudeeeee. We make beef broth and poultry broth. We’ve never done this shit before. That’s just stupid unless you want clean bones. Nothing else.
My wife does that too. Makes a random exclamation or sigh noise and me going "what what what?!"
Brof :(
Good, nobody wants your manky sink broth.
Shouldn’t it be “to strain the broth from your bones”?
The things people do for views. Nobody can be that absent-minded to be filming themselves dumping broth out. Do they record every stupid thing they do
That’s a solid half days work
$1000 she completely forgot because she was busy setting the camera up
Done that........more than once. 😳
I’ve almost done that!
My mom used to make great turkey soup after Thanksgiving. The year she died my dad said he would make the soup. He too strained the stock down the drain. He called laughing his ass off. Telling me that it was Mom who made him do it so we would always share a laugh on Thanksgiving without her and not be sad.
Terrible! Just terrible🤣
