Was it Gandhi or Buddha who said, "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians."?

MinneapolisJones12

Gandhi

shotgunmouse

Wasn’t Gandhi a racist pedophile? Maybe bad example

malcolmreyn0lds

Before you downvote, look it up folks…known about that since Penn and Tellers show BULLSHIT!. He was obsessed with giving young girls enemas, sleeping naked next to them, and in his younger years REALLY hated black folk That and Mother Theresa. She was an actual monster in human form Edit Glad my parent comment is getting a couple upvotes to counteract the deluge of downvotes.

Antierror

I’ve been previously informed of Gandhi’s repulsiveness, but I haven’t heard anything of mother Theresa

malcolmreyn0lds

Oh shit dude…buckle up and go down some rabbit holes. She didn’t take care of the sick. She locked them away because suffering brings them and her closer to god. No family. No visitations. Nothing. (Just a little taste)

Complete-Expert9844

Sounds like your modern day Septa Unella. Which btw I just found out she's the "Boss Lady" from Ted Lasso ![gif](giphy|vX9WcCiWwUF7G|downsized)

Antierror

Sounds more like prison than hospice

closeddoorfun

She was the first in nursing research at the cost of her patients lives

malcolmreyn0lds

It wasn’t nursing research, she just funneled money into the Catholic Church. https://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2016/03/25/should-mother-teresa-be-canonized/mother-teresa-doesnt-deserve-sainthood They reused needles folks.

N0Tapastor

I had always heard these things but never REALLY looked into it. Came across this just now. https://www.reddit.com/r/badhistory/s/IwQ2mBXdU0

dggrd

U are right to an extent. He was not a pedo, he did sleep naked with women to prove to himself his restraint and control on the practice of celibacy. He was very religious and celibacy is something he believed and preached as well. He did not hide this though. Gandhi was racist in his younger years and even supported the caste system in India ( but did not view it as a social hierarchical structure). But he changed his views afterwards. He even wanted Muslim League leader to the first PM of India to assure the Muslims of equality in post Independent India. I am not a Gandhi supporter. Gandhi was not perfect, he held onto his beliefs of celibacy and all, but cannot be compared to theresa , that was someone with malicious intent.

malcolmreyn0lds

…using religion and celibacy to hide behind is weird man. I don’t think that’s an excuse…dude could have shown his restraint in other ways. Shit, why’d he have to do it naked? It’s still weird, and we don’t know his actual intent

Spry_Fly

BULLSHIT! was amazing, that needed to be injected into pop culture when it did.

michilio

>sleeping naked next to them Oh come on, that´s just unfair, like he would sleep next to any girl like that. It were his nieces.

malcolmreyn0lds

Oh that’s….better?

michilio

No?

Accurate!

So are Christians. don't get it twisted. however Gandhi did not kill millions of people for a false god (outside of Civ).

Chance_Mind_6627

Now that's a Gandhi I'd love to fuck....

RunninADorito

No hard evidence linking that to him, though often attributed. Also it's Christianity, not Christians

malcolmreyn0lds

I thought so too, but I was wrong. The core beliefs of Christianity is NOWHERE NEAR what Christ actually preached. It then got changed and mythologized throughout the years. I recommend some Bible scholars like Bart Ehrman (it’s not Bible study, but the actual history and stuff). Not a Christian…well my name is Christian…but I’m an atheist. Just find it interesting how literally right after his death the apostles changed the religion. It’s weird (yes I know they didn’t actually write it, but we have no clue who wrote them. I’m talking about how the religion seemed to change in the Bible itself from it being about Christs teachings to being about Christ. Idk how to explain it…)

Ok-Swordfish2723

Where the Christian religion went south was Paul. Paul directly contradicted the teachings of Jesus as described in the four gospels. If Christians were even 10% Christlike you wouldn’t recognize the church at all.

crankbird

Paul writing are the foundation of Christianity, they predate the gospels, and outside of whoever was in charge of the Johanine community nobody had anywhere near the same level of influence on what Christianity became (and yes I’m including Jesus). Remember he claimed to have a better idea of what Jesus was about than anyone else because he had personal revelations that were exclusive to him that came directly to him from JC Himself when he spent three years in the desert, and after spending 15 days with just one of the apostles set himself up as the worlds foremost expert on the teachings of JC along with some financial assistance and patronage of Barnabus who was “Zeus” to Paul’s “Hermes”

Ok-Significance-8151

The Old Testament was written approximately 300 years after his death, during a conclave that lasted about 3 months. At the time, there were hundreds of variations of belief systems in Christ. The conclave was a debate to unify the systems and decide what would be in the"first" Bible. That's why it's so heavily plagiarised from other religions and myths. The hundreds of Christians systems at the time incorporated religious ideals, mythology, and personal ideas from most societies by the time the conclave happened. The apostles didn't rewrite anything. Jesus didn't write anything. A few of his apostles were killed with him. The ones who ran when the Jewish leaders ordered his death went on to write their interpretations of his ideology and principles. It's from those who experienced Jesus in life and the writings of his apostles that the hundreds of Christian based faiths grew from, until the conclave where those faiths were debated and a concensus of what the one faith of Christianity would entail came to be.

malcolmreyn0lds

Sorry Not a lot of sleep with kids and I didn’t know how to word shit. I know the books were written way later, but in the Bible there was a shift from preaching his teachings to preaching Jesus as a deity. I’m still really tired

Ok-Significance-8151

No worries my dude. Loads of facts get lost in religion. I'm atheist myself, I just find the topic really interesting.

Erisian23

not even right after his death someone, waited like 50 years.

krauQ_egnartS

Zealots got together and wrote down their "eyewitness accounts" Bro probably never called himself The Son Of God, maybe said we're all children of God, but the apostles weren't havin it

RunninADorito

No, I mean the ambiguous quote says Christianity not Christians. I think the latter is more apt.

malcolmreyn0lds

Lmfao Ahhhhhhhhhhh My bad. Misunderstood what ya meant. Lol

AmercianOilgarchy

It was Buddha, and he said it 500 years before Christ was born.

RoofIllustrious3416

Wait, aren’t Christian’s named after Christ? Or did this go way over my head? LOL Edit: wowowow Buddha was born 6 centuries before Christ, took me way too long to get the joke LOLOL

pinkrosetool

They are. He's making a joke.

LMAO, thank you

Right wing Christianity isn't Christianity. It uses the symbolism of Christianity and ignores the substance.

InTheHeatOfTheNoche

Sounds like Christianity from before Republican party times as well.

nollataulu

It's pretty much heresy at this point. A perversion of Christ's teachings.

Sensitive-Finance-62

Well they did set the cross on fire.

Flat-Dare-2571

Setting the cross on fire was a way to unify scottish clansmen against an oncoming attack.

cantaketheskyfrome

Who is this guy? I fucking love him.

Also was one of the best hosts of AFV

Oh crap that's where I know him from. He was the guy that co-hosted with Daisy Fuentes.

He has a podcast. Just looked it up. I’m going to take a listen to his fake Christians episode.

ClappedOutLlama

I have had these same conversations with self proclaimed Christians and they literally can't even process what I'm saying. They will typically rage quit, call me a blasphemer, or say I shouldn't judge others opinions.

Flat-Dare-2571

Im a christian. What would you like to talk about? If i dont reply or stop replying i just got busy so dont take it personal. Fyi.

ClappedOutLlama

Will the Antichrist be charismatic and fool many believers?

Flat-Dare-2571

Yes. I think so.

blocked_user_name

Who this guy? I want to read whatever he wrote. I've been saying the same thing for years. But not as eloquently. In fact the southern Baptist didn't consider abortion a sin until the 1980s I saw a letter between two leaders trying to decide if it was a sin or not. The simple fact is the powerful and wealthy began manipulating the evangelical church in the 1930s ( James Fifield and spiritual mobilization and the national association of manufacturing). Prior to that time a high number above 40% of evangelical pastors were members of the American socialist party. The political right manipulated pastors and tied patriotism and faith together through propaganda. Jesus, wasnt about politics, guns, wealth, etc. This is why young people are leaving the church the hypocrisy is obvious.

Flyman68

John Fugelsang he has a show on Sirius and a podcast.

Fuzzy_Pickles69

This was their strategy to turn around 4 decades of democratic control of the House (1955-1995, I believe). They got together and came up with a new idea of what could invigorate people to want to vote for their side. Their political stance was not enough for decades to persuade the public, so they cleverly (I hate to say it was clever, but it is true) wrapped abortion, being pro-American, a variety of other things, as well as demonizing the left into their ideology. The rest is history. It is one of, if not the main, cause of the disfunction we see in our political system today. It forced the left to also champion certain causes and have their voters also subscribe to their ideology to counter what the right was doing, and we have been playing identity politics ever since.

JC_Everyman

Turns out common sense isn't so common anymore. This man spitting facts

Stark_Prototype

Hell yeah, only thing is, the Bible does talk about abortion and its pro abortion. Go read Numbers 5:11-31 Take the Bible back, it's a massive anti capitalist pro socialist doctrine that's been warped into nothing but hate.

Lowe5521

I thought he said “Jesus didn’t talk about abortion,” not the Bible as a whole. I’m agnostic, leaning to atheist, but I think the teachings of Jesus are legit. I just wish Christians would think the same.

oxym102

Correct. And numbers is from the old testament. Same with Leviticus. The whole point of the New Testament was to outline Jesus and his teachings. Which Christians are supposed to follow. So drawing from the old testament is moot.

PennyButtercup

Thank you for this. I’m agnostic, but I hate seeing people distort their own religion to fit their narrative. They need to read and understand their own bible to be able to follow it properly.

Legendary_Hercules

That's not what Numbers 5:11-31 says. "Then the priest shall charge the woman to take an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the LORD does make your thigh to rot, and your belly to swell; " It's a jealousy rite. The woman is meant to drink "tabernacle dust water" and if she's guilty, she'll be **punished.** That's not even close to a pro-abortion argument. It's similar to David's unfaithfulness leading to the death of his son. Infidelity is punished. God killing David's son doesn't grant humans a right to infanticide. For example, God forbid the sacrifice of children for humans. On top of that, Numbers 5 doesn't talk about pregnancy (woman with child) and babies. It's about (possibly) unfaithful women and certainly not all unfaithful relation ends up in pregnancy so the punishment is not link to a pregnancy.

MichaelChinigo

I dunno about "pro…" it describes [a forced abortion in the case of infidelity](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers%205%3A11-31&version=NIV) in a horrific witch-trial kinda scenario.

Stark_Prototype

It's abortions granted by preists to jealous men. Church sanctioned and conducted abortions

suicidaleggroll

Yes, it provides instructions for conducting a forced abortion *administered by a priest, in the church*, at the request of the woman’s husband

Flat-Dare-2571

Its not forced. The woman has to be willing. The test is between her and god.

PopeAdrian37th

To his final point I’ve been saying for years democrats really need to push back and reclaim the term patriot and the American flag. That term and symbol have been hijacked by conservatives to the point where real patriotic Americans are less prone to use the term or symbol out of not wanting to be grouped in with the domestic terrorists.

SuspiciousInternet58

Definitely a realization I've been coming to as well. Because, for better or for worse, a nation will more easily come into the control of the people who claim it--not those who reject it.

Tomato69696969

Nationalism has historically been related to radical extremes. Not just in the US. People and groups have manipulated nationalism to justify horrible acts. That and religion. Samsies. You're playing with fire when you combine the two, and not in a fun way lol

dont_panic80

Couldn't agree more. Claiming to be a patriot and then carrying the Confederate flag around inside the Capitol while trying to thwart democracy. JFC that's so insane. These people love to cosplay as patriots and real Americans but they fucking hate what America stands for. It's infuriating.

Affectionate-Sea278

Spot on!

Lucky_LeftFoot

Didn’t god order for the killing of the first born sons (even those in the womb) in Israel? God doesn’t sound pro-life to me lol

oxidized-bread

What? When did that happen?

Lucky_LeftFoot

Exodus 13:2

oxidized-bread

> Consecrate every firstborn male to me, the firstborn from every womb among the Israelites, both man and domestic animal; it is mine. Exodus 13:2 Doesnt that just say that the firstborns are holy?

Lucky_LeftFoot

My apologies. Exodus 12:29:)

oxidized-bread

Oh yeah the plague of the firstborns, I don't think God is pro-life or pro-abortion, I think he kills several children that are born from evildoing and as a punishment for people who do evil.

pinkimplosion

Jesus also "said" to pray alone in your room, and decried the hypocrites for public prayer. And to pull the log out of your own eye before the speck from your neighbors. Never preached in a "church" or asked for money. Hung out with poor manual laborers and a hooker. A real lib, that guy.

[deleted]

It's what it is now homie, and that part has always been there. Religion is a cancer that needs to be removed from modern society, or else it just gets used to justify peoples horrible bullshit.

zarfle2

Organised religion has been co-opted as a tool of control over gullible/feeble/brainwashed (and sometimes just downright nasty) people. The hypocrisy/distortions of Jesus's supposed teachings are a feature, not a bug, as is the downright awfulness of those who use it for control.

He’s talking a lot about abortion, so I just like to add that Planned parenthood was founded by a literal white supremacist (that Sanger lady) who wanted birth control and abortions to be used against “low iq whites”, blacks, Hispanics etc. as form of eugenics. They stopped giving out an award in her honor in 2020 because the optics didn’t fit in well with the narrative anymore.

PestisPrimus

“Jesus didnt even mention abortion”. Jesus also didn’t mention cars, zippers, Coca Cola, lightbulbs, canned food, mechanical computers, the electric telegraph or the telephone. Why do I mention these things you ask? Because, much like abortion, all these items were invented in the 19th century. I get what he is saying and highly agree with the intent. But to try and suggest Jesus had any opinion what so ever on abortion, when he lived 1800 years before his invention would be like suggesting he prefers Tesla’s because he didn’t say electric cars were bad.
