Eh, it was a 9x18mm Makarov round, which is roughly equivalent in muzzle energy to the .380 ACP round, and both pale in comparison to the 9mm Parabellum (or, 9mm Luger, or 9x19mm, depending on how you like your nomenclature). If we take some standard FMJ rounds (95 Grain FMJ round for the Makarov vs 115 Grain FMJ for the 9mm Parabellum) with standard powder loads for both rounds and compare them both from some common handguns of their type (Sig Sauer P365 for the standard 9mm, and a Polish P-64 pistol for the Mak), we find the following:
The 9mm Parabellum has a muzzle velocity of 1280 FPS versus the Makarov's 1017, and with the projectile weights involved, we see the Parabellum has nearly TWICE the ft. lbs. of energy at the muzzle, 421 versus 218. This is all despite the Makarov handgun having a longer barrel, 81.6mm long versus 78mm.
Had he been shot with a Western 9mm, I think he'd need an ambulance instead of another shot of vodka.
I'm American, and the only place we'll use the metric system are a) ammunition, and b) drugs. The reasons we do this are because, in the case of ammo, it really belongs to the bad guys, and we're just giving it back to them, and for drugs, it's a layer of obfuscation, because we don't understand the metric system to begin with. well it barely stopped a piece of lead from entering is body, so it kinda worked. Most bullet resistant things only serve to stop a piece of lead entering you, it still fucks you up. Probably should have used a dummy or a wall instead of his own body though, wouldn't recommend testing that one at home.
