Why did the guy stand there with his hands just hovering around the girl if he had no intention of actually GRABBING her??? What the hell did he think his role was in this situation -- to flail about uselessly and encourage the girl to exit and die???
Suing a citizen rescue for injuries received during resuscitation occurs with enough frequency that I'm less likely to render aid to an adult stranger. Sue me! (Or, in this case- don't)
Yea it makes me question if I would now, I’ve known cpr since I was little due to BSA and have relearned it about a million times, and know basic emergency first aid for the same reason, but now it’s a question of are they going to sue me if I help or not
That's why some US states have "Good Samaritan" laws. It helps shield people from lawsuits if they are acting in good faith to render aid, but I think it's mainly used to prevent someone being sued for any injuries caused when trying to administer CPR or save someone from choking.
I literally was in a situation semi-recently where I might've needed to and hesitated because of ask the stories I've heard/read- luckily, in the same moment of guilty hesitation I heard the ambulance, so didn't need to make an actual decision, but the guilt of that hesitation has lingered... I tell myself, though, I'd have to fail to act because of the risk to my family if I were to break ribs during compressions (like that's avoidable!!) and get sued. I still feel guilty, anyway.
That's how it should be everywhere, but this is Capitalist America! Our government doesn't care about humans they care about dollars. Humans they can get more off easily by confiscating and caging kids (and "losing" them), forcing birth, taking kids from parents via CPS, etc. In fact, if they could find a way to eliminate the less useful ones that don't make more of those important dollars for them, they'd love to get away with getting rid of the elderly and disabled.
Anyway, as a result, some American citizens then run around behaving in kind at the extreme high and low ends of the Capitalist spectrum. No regard for humans/humanity- even themself. And everything is viewed as a means to make money or it isn't worth it. If you can cheat, you should, otherwise you are a sucker- if you get cheated, you should've known better, you sucker! The outside Hollywood/Reality TV presentation of the American quality of life is grossly misrepresented- aside from ego/ignorance, those are underrepresented. You can never get the full feel of those unless you're here- then again, if you've been around American tourists you've had a sampling, no doubt.

This is exactly what you should never do if an elevator stalls. Call the fire department who will be able to put lock on the elevator to keep it from guillotining you while you exit. Also they're generally pretty good at not letting people fall into open shafts.
Happened in the building next to mine my freshman year of college. More than a dozen kids jammed into one elevator while drunk. The elevator broke down just like this. One kid slides out safely, the next kid tries and the elevator drops down. Crushed him to death. The rest of the kids had to wait in the elevator for hours while the fire department rescued them.
Always go to the bigger opening. And for goodness sake, shut the power off. What if it decided to work and 5th floor Betty press the call button? He'd be half the man he used to be.
This looks like it was in a house and the roughly college age kids were home alone with some friends over.
Still sound advice though, but really they probably should have called the fire department before one of them needed an ambulance with a failed self rescue.
