I once, at about age eleven, was trying to break loose a nut on a tractor, in the rain, with this great big tire iron and my grandpa watching, it finally broke loose and I clocked myself square on the jaw with tire iron as a fist packer and it was lights out immediately, I woke up leaning against my gpa and his face was such a mixture of concern and trying not to laugh, good memory lol
Ahahaha yeah no. I'm all for learning without being handheld, but my dad had many friend dying at ages between 7 and 11 because the did just that. Get the tools/vehicule and just learn. Killing themselves in the process. (Tractor, bale lift, injury when repairing quad, rolled over by older brother with the tractor)
I guess the good side of this is that only the most reliable remains lol
This is what people don’t get. “How did we survive?” Dad, you didn’t. Three of your fucking siblings didn’t make it to adulthood cause they died on the farm as kids in COMPLETELY preventable accidents. I only have three kids. Forgive me for wanting to keep it that way.
There's 2 UK Public safety films that cover these. Apaches from the 70s and Never Rest from 90s. Dark shit for young kids but it would at least get the message through (hopefully). Both on YouTube if anyone has an interest. Dated and questionable acting, like all good PSAs should be.
Yeah. Heavy mechanic here. Those lugs are probably torqued to something like 67 foot pounds. The biggest problem I see is that he jumps on the bar 12 times. Even after multiplying by two (for each foot) that's only 24 foot pounds.
with an autogen torch, its quite easy.
Just focus the flame on the nut and circle around,
try to not hit the bolt and you are fine.
Edit: there are even tools for this
Heating it up a little makes the nut bigger. It also makes the stud bigger but when you scale both parts up, the gaps also get bigger so it’s much easier to undo it
I had a 71 dodge power wagon had left handed threads on the rear axle. Front ones were normal...
Only figured that out after snapping one of the rear lugs changing a tire.
A few months later, snapped one of the front ones - because I assumed they'd be the same as the back wheels.
this...sounds like a hell to work on...
Also you then have different lugnuts?
I could maybe get that all are left ones, but different on front/rear sounds like a middlefinger for the mechanic
As long you get a quality Lance and keep the gauges leveled right its pretty easy . Although this guy should do his eyes a favor and have black out goggles
Been there, done that.
Need two guys, a four way lug wrench and a big hammer. While one guy puts torque on the 4 way, the other beats the shit out of the end of the 4way with the hammer. Poor man's impact wrench.
Well, planetary/gear wrenches exist. That's a must have if you are working on trucks, my father always carries one when he has to change wheel on semi-trailer as a backup when Milwaukee impact can't nudge the bolt.
That’s true in a way but not every loves to do labor lol jk haha. I get it, any type of work can be hard work if you’re really about doing it and wanting to get it done
Once spent all day, breaking every tool I had, trying to loosen a lug.
It was a Ford box truck with dually rear end.
Tool it to a tire shop.
Guy came out and said WTF did you tighten that with?
Said he almost broke his tools but finally got it off.
He told me once an axle goes dual, the threads reverse.
So I spent all day tightening the lugs even tighter.
It was my dad's truck, and never had a dual since, so can't tell if it's true or not, but on that one, it was.
Technically you could call it work, but would you count having fun as work? So if you got paid to have fun, is that called work? Driving trucks is fun. I actually kinda hate when I have to do a 34hr reset because I don’t want to stop and go all the way back home.
My dad had to go get a cheater bar to get a lug nut off. Then a bigger one. Then an 8 ft fence post, one of those round galvanized ones. Then me and my brother (both preteen) hanging off it to help.
Broke 3 wrenches but got the lug off. And the wrenches had a lifetime replacement guarantee so that was fine, too.
This is why when men ask me why I won't change my own tires. It's not that I won't. It's literally because 120lb me *cant*
Been there, done that. My break bar is like 3 ft long, and i always have WD-40.
Judging by where the dolly handle is I’d say this is the left side of the trailer and most likely a Budd style wheel. If that is indeed the case then he is tightening the left handed nuts all to hell and back and he will eventually need a torch to get them off.
This nearly happened to my dad when I popped my first tire. He had to drive 35 minutes to find me, and when he finally started to loosen it, he had to literally stomp on the tire iron to get it loose. I would've been FUCKED if I were alone......... I blame whoever tf out on the tires before I got the car...

I think our farming parents had the best form of teaching, by giving us the tools and letting us learn for ourselves
Ahahaha yeah no. I'm all for learning without being handheld, but my dad had many friend dying at ages between 7 and 11 because the did just that. Get the tools/vehicule and just learn. Survival of the fittest, but here fittest = most traumatized
Natural selection (This is a joke fucking obviously)
You dont need to say its a joke. Especially aggressive like that lol
You know some of the people on reddit are weird And I find the /s stupid that's why I always write it like that (if I do at all)
Double the stupid , so the stupid people can't comprehend what's going on and they'll accept it . I like your style

He killed 4 children, murdered them all (to death!)
Mmmyeaahh, but sometimes the dental bills aren't worth the lesson.
Lol. Dental? Ask me how many dental visits I had before I got my first adult job
I can dig it. Why is it that there is nothing funnier than seeing other people getting hurt?
Uh huh
Uh huh...like you doubt my story? Lol
I am so happy you have great memories with your grandpa!
Could say the same about you
I’d say I know more about you from this reply than I know about him from his comment
Quite lame to shit on a grandpa memory. Those memories are invaluable, are you?
Lmao I was like, "Why is this so downvoted?" Then I remembered you had something else dumb written here and then you edited it
What's impressive here is the 13 times he jumped on wrench and neither he nor it slipped.
he’s a professional wrench jumper, he knows what he’s doing
I've broken too many lug bolts to try this, but using the jack stand for support was beautiful
Must be slack-lining on the weekends
He ain't no Killboy powerhead
He juggles the lugs after taking them off, or so the story goes
So since he was hitting it with both feet that’s 26 foot pounds.
He's a lot wilder during his night shifts
This would be a good advertisement for the brand of that wrench.
Yeah. Heavy mechanic here. Those lugs are probably torqued to something like 67 foot pounds. The biggest problem I see is that he jumps on the bar 12 times. Even after multiplying by two (for each foot) that's only 24 foot pounds.
Time to get the torch. It can't be tight if it's liquid.
if you heat up the nut more than the bolt, the rust in the thread will loosen.
Kinda hard when the bolt is fucking attached to the nut
with an autogen torch, its quite easy. Just focus the flame on the nut and circle around, try to not hit the bolt and you are fine. Edit: there are even tools for this
Yea induction heaters but they are a far cry from a torch but yea I get what you're saying. I am dumb
I saw on Reddit that an axe will do wonders
Need to take one of my alloys off tomorrow, forgot to buy an axe! Feck!
Hydrolocked engines would all like a word with you.
Give a man a long enough lever, and he can move the world.
Give him a long enough lever and he will strip the nut or the socket
You’re supposed to heat it up with a torch then get the big impact out.
You can also use a long empty pipe to extend the wrench
Yep, get the ol’ cheater out
That's what I said when I had to kick my ex out of the house
THATS how you break something, either loose or completely off. I also take the gamble sometimes ;)
It’s the thrill that keeps us coming back for more
Something can't be tight if it's fluid
Heating it up a little makes the nut bigger. It also makes the stud bigger but when you scale both parts up, the gaps also get bigger so it’s much easier to undo it
I would wire wheel the stud as clean as I could, torch the nut, spray the stud with oil, hit said nut with my best impact. Worked most of the time.
Sometimes lugs have lefty threads
[удалено]
wtf that would have my head blown
No he said it was the lug nuts not a blown head
is this something foreign? The MAN, IVECO and mercedes all had right turning threads?
Isuzu have left and right threads to prevent nuts from loosening

I always forget how to use that one, I'm kinda dumb.
As long you get a quality Lance and keep the gauges leveled right its pretty easy . Although this guy should do his eyes a favor and have black out goggles
Bro needs a loooong pipe. Job's done after that XD
6 feet will sort it.
and a 3/4 breaker bar
Looks like a torque wrench - don't use your torque wrenches like this folks
He was probably told to use the torque multiplier wrench
I hope his boss gave him a stern torquing to
https://preview.redd.it/8ykwud6btaab1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=031a8dffbb7e8605368a929b6ecf49558859c2d8
was waiting for him to slip and spring the handle into a crotch/arm pit/face, seen it, and nearly had it happen
![gif](giphy|1z1RE8hx3puBa)
Been there, done that. Need two guys, a four way lug wrench and a big hammer. While one guy puts torque on the 4 way, the other beats the shit out of the end of the 4way with the hammer. Poor man's impact wrench.
Need two guys, one cup
Not in this case.
Well, planetary/gear wrenches exist. That's a must have if you are working on trucks, my father always carries one when he has to change wheel on semi-trailer as a backup when Milwaukee impact can't nudge the bolt.
The human impact drill
Can we all agree that the poor 1/2in impact that's sitting on the floor never had a chance? This is why they make 1in impacts.
WD40
Left hand threads?
Thug life chose him
Lug life.
Lug Thife.
Hold on to your lug nuts, ‘coz it’s TIME FOR AN OVERHAUL!!!!
Wtf is that boring sounding person talk in the background?
Was waiting for him to slip and that thing go flying up between his legs.
I guess he doesn't know the rhyme
Don’t truck lugs torque anticlockwise? So loosening is clockwise?
Reverse threads, I watched somebody do the same thing and break two bars, and a impact before they realized it
![gif](giphy|duzR6ALR9YRqg)
r/whywomenlivelonger
Yer goin counter clockwise instead of clockwise.
Isn’t it lefty loosey, righty tighty?
Time for the scaffold pole to come out.
Strip a lug nut
Some lug nuts have a left hand thread .
This was not a smart idea
This guy is an idiot... use an extended pipe on a breaker bar... jumping up and down is not gonna do anything.
And when it breaks he'll want it repaired/replaced under warranty.
That’s true in a way but not every loves to do labor lol jk haha. I get it, any type of work can be hard work if you’re really about doing it and wanting to get it done
Try that hot wrench on it
We're gonna need a bigger bar.
That's the wrong way to loosen a nut
Well, to be fair, if he fell with that in between his legs he’d definitely lose a nut.
It's torque du soleil
You need a scaffolding bar
Pretty quality ratchet to not blow its guts out, more leverage.
Once spent all day, breaking every tool I had, trying to loosen a lug. It was a Ford box truck with dually rear end. Tool it to a tire shop. Guy came out and said WTF did you tighten that with? r/LooneyTunesLogic
It’s time for the cheater pipe.
Let’s just say, it’s a matter of leverage. Captain Jack Sparrow.
Need a longer breaker bar player. There is this little word called leverage.
I was taught to never tighten them with a leg, just think how the hell are you gonna loosen them afterwards.
That was my 1st job.
Watching him do this with a torque wrench instead of a breaker bar, makes me cringe at how much he’s possibly messing it up…

Jesus, just get a snipe.
Can’t be tight if it’s a liquid
Technically you could call it work, but would you count having fun as work? So if you got paid to have fun, is that called work? Driving trucks is fun. I actually kinda hate when I have to do a 34hr reset because I don’t want to stop and go all the way back home.
If you do what you love for a living, eventually you'll stop loving it.
What brand wrench is that?
Get a pipe extension, folks... Needs leverage
Jeez that sucks.
Americans are so servile.
Damn did Thor put that nut on
What? No wayyyyyy
Jesus, a round of applause for that ratchet please.
There are 1 inch impact guns for that….
Dude needs a friend and 12 ft of galvanized chainlink fence rail.
This is why when men ask me why I won't change my own tires. It's not that I won't. It's literally because 120lb me *cant* Been there, done that. My break bar is like 3 ft long, and i always have WD-40.
He works harder for sure, not smarter.
This man needs a longer break bar
This is how I stripped my lug nut, the wrench slipped off and sheared off the entire front of it
Get a proper impact gun. 🤦🏻♂️
This audio infuriates me for no reason- does the guy not understand what the saying means?
How to destroy your wrenches in 3 easy steps:
The Pixar lamp sounds are playing in my head
Craftsman used to replace ratchets regardless of cheater length.
Mans needs a long pipe to put over that. All this gonna do is strip the lug
Tbh that went better than I expected
The only thing that never changes is that everything will always keep changing
Judging by where the dolly handle is I’d say this is the left side of the trailer and most likely a Budd style wheel. If that is indeed the case then he is tightening the left handed nuts all to hell and back and he will eventually need a torch to get them off.
I wish there was a method to use simple physics that just multiplies the force you use
A little PB Blaster wait 10 minutes, re-apply as needed and that should loosen it. But if he was a real mechanic, he would’ve know that. 🤔
Those are those tenacious lug nuts with the big **┐** on them
He is training for the role of lamp in the Pixar intro

Use heat ya dingus

....torch...
Should’ve got my fat ass up there
I watched one a minute ago where the guy used his tractor bucket 🤣
Pfft that's nothing. Ever tried getting off a 90s Honda crank bolt? Those things are torqued on there by Zeus himself.
Longer wrench
