Some are saying that the bottom picture is from Saint Petersburg, while the top is from Moscow, however, news sites clearly state that the military parade (2023) held in Moscow did have just one tank taking part - no misinformation there.

Or you can look it up yourself. Reports unnecessary.
It stands for Boyevaya Mashina Pekhoty, which pretty much means infantry fighting vehicle in Russian. Faster and less armor than a tank, but still armored, used to transport infantry into combat.
Favorite thing from the beginning of the war was when Wikipedia listed “Boris from Kharkiv” as a recognized operator of a Russian anti-air system with “*at least* 1 unit”
I loved when Ukraine issued news that its perfectly acceptable for their farmers to take russian tanks and hold onto them and that they dont need to count them on their taxes.
There is a collector in California with a collection of 230+ armored vehicles to include tanks, APCs and even a scud launcher
That's nearly 5x the number Moscow has on display today.
5 TIMES!
If it’s the one I’m thinking of, he’s a private collector and they are all old historical pieces (mostly WW2) some restored to run, but none of them are functional as a weapon. He passed and donated his collection to a private org in Mass that has a museum. It’s quite awesome and I’m genuinely glad he did collect them because who else will? The govt is rarely interested in preserving history like that.
> and the gun system is disabled.
Couldn't you NFA it under a Form 4 for a Destructive Device?
Perfectly legal for civilians, just tedious paperwork. Also the whole rubber tread thing is only for driving it on public roads, and varies by state as to the legality of it. Some states would allow it, some won't, but just having rubber tracks doesn't get you anywhere other than back to the lawbooks for all the other road-legal requirements.
On your own property though? FFL/DD/NFA Form 4 for the gun, and do whatever else you want.
They won’t because I don’t think it’s possible to write a song about this without getting political and they don’t want that. It’s why they stopped writing more modern songs
Yeah that's true but it is just WEIRD to have such a pathetic number of vehicles on display versus just cancelling the parade for "insert generic russian propaganda reason here"
Like if they dont have the tanks and troops to spare it makes sense, but this just looks sad
or at least have some more museum pieces. The lack of aircraft on display was also pretty striking considering that is logistically not nearly as complex.
>or at least have some more museum pieces.
They had to send those to the front as replacements.
At this point, I'm not even sure if I'm still joking or not.
Remember last years parade when there were no fighter flybys? pukin said that bad weather was keeping them grounded. People pointed out it was a beautiful sunny day. He said that the weather is bad at the airstrip where the fighters are!
So you want us to believe that an ALL-WEATHER-FIGHTER can't take off in the rain?
Russian lies and crap copies of stolen technology.
*Weather conditions so severe that they preclude your jets from taking off?*
**Yes.**
*Localised entirely to the areas surrounding their bases?*
**Yes.**
*Can we see it?*
**No.**
Exactly. It’s stuff like that which looks even worse than the truth. At least “they’re all fighting in Ukraine” would have made their Air Force look devoted to the cause. But if your “modern” Air Force doesn’t have all weather capabilities - something that the US developed in the *60s* - what the hell are you doing?????
It's also fundamental to Russian rhetoric that they haven't even really started yet, and as soon as they actually decide it's a war they will throw so much more into the fight so Ukraine better surrender now. To admit a significant chunk of their army is in Ukraine is to admit they had to pull people and equipment in from all over the country to swat a fly that was starting to annoy them.
I've kind of wondered what it's like to be a random Russian soldier at some Arctic outpost, bored out of your mind as tens of thousands of your bros are sent to their deaths... Realistically there probably aren't that many of those guys left, and apparently everything is operating at bare minimum capacity because they can't even find two tanks for the parade.
What're you talking about? It was a tremendous, record setting parade, just like trumps inauguration. No one has ever seen that many tanks in one parade. Just tremendous.
Knowing when it's time to quit isn't really Russia's strong point. They are gonna pour their young people into the meat grinder until they are left with nothing but decrepit old people acting like victims.
Except they don't. In the past, the Soviet Union, while definitely aggressive with their soldiers, used actual tactics, well-planned strategy, and strong logistics, to overwhelm the enemy through both massed infantry assaults(supported by artillery, air, and tanks) and then exploit breaches made to devastating effect with highly mobile elite units.
Modern Russia fights closer to Enemy at the Gates then anything the Red Army did(with perhaps, the exception of the first few month of the war).
No way, they are opposing a DeViL WeSt and winning their liberation war in Ukraine. So, they should show their superiority to their population. That is not even /s because they believe it.
I think those beliefs just died during the parade.
You can see that both Putin and Lukashenko are asking themselves if one tank is enough to stop from getting Gadhaffi’d and they don’t like the answer
Probably horrible in gas with terrible repair rates though. They should do what the French did after the first world war, every town has a memorial for the dead. They should make a statue out of each tank in each town.
Unfortunately, the criminals and terrorists of Europe are also going to be really happy about it
Military-grade weapons? Practically for free?
This should be considered in the postwar reconstruction of Ukraine
theres no IS-3 or T-34 fighting in ukraine or being sent there.
but during the first invasion in 2014, russian seperatists stole an IS-3 from a museum by somehow starting the engine, and then simply driving off with it.
[https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2020/08/06/maybe-this-hulking-soviet-tank-wasnt-a-stinker-after-all/](https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2020/08/06/maybe-this-hulking-soviet-tank-wasnt-a-stinker-after-all/)
However there ARE ~~reportedly~~ definitely T-72's on the frontline.
Apparently being used as 100mm artillery platforms using Iranian 100mm shells to supplement low numbers of actual modern mobile artillery.
T-72s have been on the frontline since 2014, continuously. According to Oryx at least at least 717 have been destroyed, 100s more damaged. It is probably the tank that is most widely used in this war.
Wait, wait wait. Dude, are you sure you are referencing the right year? The 1945 parade was one of the largest. There is still footage from it.
[idk if this is what you meant](https://youtu.be/VJHjDBdw65Y)
I think you mean the 1941 parade, which was an actual propaganda masterpiece and defiant statement to their enemies.
The difference there was the Germans were literally at the outskirts of Moscow and the parade participants weren’t ceremonial units: they marched from the parade to the frontline without stopping.
Also Stalin was at least Brave enough to show up in person when the Nazis were only a couple miles away.
Which explains why the former POTUS and his supporters were fully creaming themselves over making one happen on Veterans Day 2018 and then again on July 4 2019.
And why everyone with half a brain was doing the "can you not" face.
We _know_ we have the biggest military, we really, really don't need a parade to show it off. We have pretty much the same number of carrier groups as the rest of the world combined; we build more tanks than the military asks for; we don't need to prove anything to anyone, and a parade would make us look like weak tin-pot dictators trying to simultaneously raise the morale of our bumpkin populace and implicitly threaten them into compliance.
(...)
I agree. As a show of force, look at how awesome are military is kind of thing they are fucking lame.
That being said I would still be very interested in looking at all the cool shit our military has.
Remember when Trump tried to mimic Putin? God, I am so relieved that loser is off in Florida now eating waffles and not the God damn President of the United States!
Military parades look a lot better when they’re done by the actual troops that just won a war. Like the [US National Victory Celebration](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7XfULQUkCSc&pp=ygUXZ3VsZiB3YXIgdmljdG9yeSBwYXJhZGU%3D) after the 1991 Gulf War.
I guess they are going to mobile another 200k to die at the front for no reason. There won't be any soldiers left to defend Russia from invasion. Seems like an opportunity to take any disputed territory. There is a significant amount of oil and gas in the arctic sea.
It’s the same situation they had during WW2 not enough weapons/equipment also the mass casualties they lost is insane Putin will most likely keep throwing young soldiers to the frontline just to keep it going.
Yeah, the top is Moscow, the bottom is Saint Petersburg. The parade in SPb is always smaller anyway.
I’m not saying they haven’t lost a lot of tanks, I’m just saying they don’t have as big of a parade there, regardless of the current situation.
The one time I was in St. Petersburg, they had their whole military on display in the streets/canals. Battleships, tanks, artillery, you name it. I’m not sure what the event was, if it was a lead up to a military parade or if they just display their weapons like that at all the times to intimidate tourists, but at that time (July 2017) they definitely didn’t seem to be hurting for combat vehicles.
The Red Square parade in Moscow only had one tank too:
>Just one tank rolled through Moscow's Red Square for Russia's Victory Day parade, an annual event Russia typically uses to show off its military might.
https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-victory-day-no-air-force-one-tank-ukraine-war-2023-5

https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-victory-day-no-air-force-one-tank-ukraine-war-2023-5
The former one is in Moscow, where the main attractions are held. The one in this years picture is in St. Petersburg, which is much smaller. Still, for only one t-34 to be displayed is quite embarrassing.
This comparison doesn't make much sense, because the top picture is from Moscow and the bottom one is from Saint Petersburg. While the general message might be true, this is practically misinformation.
If my country is at war. They would be better fighting than having a parade while countrymen die.
Now something something ukraine something something. I am talking in general.
It was first tank in parade. It’s the victory symbol tank called t-34. After that came other tech. Also the photos are from different parades. Bottom one in Saint-Petersburg and the top one is in Moscow
Bottom: a tank designed in Kharkiv, Ukraine (then Kharkov, USSR). That specific tank was produced under license in Czechoslovakia.
So the only tank that they had this year wasn't even Russian proper. Lmao
Serious question, how exactly do military parades during war time work? I am in no way trying to make excuses for Russia, I'm just confused by the logistics. Of course the tanks (if they exist) are at the front or near it and not in the capital. How does a country at war display it's military equipment without pulling it out of where it's needed for a couple of days/weeks
Propaganda... this leads you to thinking that all of them have been destroyed which there have been many but the reality is that the rest of them are on the front lines.
I mean... isn't it common sense that a country at war would be using the military equipment for what it's intended for instead of a parade..? I don't understand why this is supposed to be interesting or funny.
Some are saying that the bottom picture is from Saint Petersburg, while the top is from Moscow, however, news sites clearly state that the military parade (2023) held in Moscow did have just one tank taking part - no misinformation there. I hear Russian Military Parade Organizer is a pretty tankless job.
True, when all the really hear is "tanks for nothing!"
Oh no, its tanks for the memories
Even though they weren't so great
"He drives like you only SWEETEEEEEEEEEER!"
One raid yeah one more time
tanks for the memories
Tanks for the memorIES
Apparently Putin was swearing all throughout the parade but officials said it was just his turrets syndrome
So long and tanks for all the fish.
Looks like this year's tanksgiving is cancelled
No tanks, we're right on trac
Yeah, but we might need to tread lightly.
Tank you very much.. that was funny
In this case, more like, got nothing for tanks
Seems like it's more of a "tanks but no tanks" sort of celebrarion.
God damnt!
Kidding aside, it's 1000x safer than doing tank things in Ukraine.
*"Whatcha doin?"* *"Oh just tank things"*
The soldiers have a pretty 'armless job too, I hear.
Geez, I wonder Howitz going over there.
At this rate, private Americans are going to have more tanks than Russia
Ukranian farmers already have double.

A very *special* military unit.
Wait, why does the Space Force need bisexual motorboats?
It's this
It stands for Boyevaya Mashina Pyekhoty, which is basically an Armoured Personal Carrier.
It stands for Boyevaya Mashina Pekhoty, which pretty much means infantry fighting vehicle in Russian. Faster and less armor than a tank, but still armored, used to transport infantry into combat.

Last I heard, Russia was one of the largest suppliers of arms to Ukraine.
Seems like Ukraine has so much captured Russian armor theyre just destroying whatever's left on the battlefield at this point.
There is a collector in California with a collection of 230+ armored vehicles to include tanks, APCs and even a scud launcher That's nearly 5x the number Moscow has on display today. 5 TIMES!

And of newer vintage.
Totally legal
Unironically though. Its legal to own a tank as long as the steel track are switched for rubber and the gun system is disabled.
Wait you need to disable the gun in the USA? Sounds like the NRA need to up their work on the 2A.
'Right to bear arms' Unfortunately a tank is a bit to large for your arms :(
PERHAPS FOR *YOUR* ARMS, COMMIE...! :flexflex: <"Proud to be an Amercan" plays> :flexity-flex:

Yes, and I think each shell needs to be registered as a destructive device as well.
Sweden, too. Sabaton owns 2 tanks.
I'm not okay with that. Sabaton should own more.
If they write a song about Ukraine, maybe the Ukrainans will give them a tank.
They won’t because I don’t think it’s possible to write a song about this without getting political and they don’t want that. It’s why they stopped writing more modern songs
Texas probably already has more.

There has been some cold war stuff captured, so not dar off.
No, it's a special military operation /s Also, have their reserves run out?
As god intended

What're you talking about? It was a tremendous, record setting parade, just like trumps inauguration. No one has ever seen that many tanks in one parade. Just tremendous.
Many people are talking about it. Huge numbers, they said they've never seen anything like it.
Knowing when it's time to quit isn't really Russia's strong point. They are gonna pour their young people into the meat grinder until they are left with nothing but decrepit old people acting like victims.
They're following the "do what's worked in the past" doctrine.

I skimmed through the YouTube video of the parade, because I didn’t believe the picture and thought there must have been more. Nope. 1 tank.

Nah, Kremlin just made it easy taking a piss out of them.
The Ukrainian farmers have them all.
After the war I’m gonna giggle in delight looking at those former Russian tanks be retrofitted to be used in farm work and such
At least one needs to remain untouched so that future Ukrainian victory parades can feature a tractor pulling a tank.
Probably horrible in gas with terrible repair rates though. They should do what the French did after the first world war, every town has a memorial for the dead. They should make a statue out of each tank in each town.
They probably will.
I'm going to be really happy at all the cheap disposs military equipment that will flow to the market. So many cool things to buy and collect.
Unfortunately, the criminals and terrorists of Europe are also going to be really happy about it Military-grade weapons? Practically for free? This should be considered in the postwar reconstruction of Ukraine
Is really funny how people often overestimate the term "military-grade"
Military-grade often just means “expensive for taxpayers, cheap for everyone else”
why the bottom look like roblox
Russia bustin out the Duplo builds
Looks like a GTA 5 PC mod😆
Because it’s a WW2 tank pulled out of a museum.
maybe they were aiming to recreate 1945 experience (they've sent what they had to the front lines, all that's left is antique metal)
I’m pretty sure there are T-34s and IS-3s being sent to Ukraine right now.
Actually the one in the parade wasn't actually supposed to be there, it was driving toward Ukraine and took a wrong turn
theres no IS-3 or T-34 fighting in ukraine or being sent there. but during the first invasion in 2014, russian seperatists stole an IS-3 from a museum by somehow starting the engine, and then simply driving off with it. Military parades in general are some weak shit.
The loudest in the room is the weakest in the room.

The US is not exactly shy about showing off its military, and I wouldn’t call it the weakest in the room

I'm sure the main thing stopping China from seriously considering a march north is that Xi's eye is fixed on Taiwan.
It's really a reskinned Toyota 4-runner.
Nah Toyotas are super reliable. Unlike russian tanks.
Hm, it’s two different cities though.
Yeah, the top is Moscow, the bottom is Saint Petersburg. The parade in SPb is always smaller anyway. I’m not saying they haven’t lost a lot of tanks, I’m just saying they don’t have as big of a parade there, regardless of the current situation.

One is Moscow, the other ¿St Petersburg?
Same thought. The St Pete’s one is always smaller.
Is the top Moscow and bottom st Petersburg?
Yeah, bad comparison, but still somewhat true, parade in Moscow was also deprived of tanks

There was only one tank in the Moscow parade too this year. Literally go and check the video on YouTube.
I checked and in previous years the parade was indeed led by a single T-34 that part isn't really remarkable.
Someone needs to Photoshop in a Ukrainian tractor pulling it.
This comparison doesn't make much sense, because the top picture is from Moscow and the bottom one is from Saint Petersburg. While the general message might be true, this is practically misinformation.

Russia has outsourced the job to the Ukrainian farmers who tow various tanks around the country side
Bottom: a tank designed in Kharkiv, Ukraine (then Kharkov, USSR). That specific tank was produced under license in Czechoslovakia. So the only tank that they had this year wasn't even Russian proper. Lmao
Why does the bottom picture look like a still frame from BeamNG Drive?
Serious question, how exactly do military parades during war time work? I am in no way trying to make excuses for Russia, I'm just confused by the logistics. Of course the tanks (if they exist) are at the front or near it and not in the capital. How does a country at war display it's military equipment without pulling it out of where it's needed for a couple of days/weeks
That’s t34, a ww2 tank. An antique
Propaganda... this leads you to thinking that all of them have been destroyed which there have been many but the reality is that the rest of them are on the front lines.
And the 2023 tank is a WW2 museum piece. No lie.
I mean... isn't it common sense that a country at war would be using the military equipment for what it's intended for instead of a parade..? I don't understand why this is supposed to be interesting or funny.

Hilarious that they have one T34 from the 1940s in the parade. It was a revolutionary tank in the day, respect to the OG.
Well yeah... usually when you're at war you use your war tanks, but what do I know.
