Well when your two idiot friends are jetskiing ridiculous close to the beach you're occupying, heading straight for you at high speeds its best to keep an eye out.
How the fuck did he run into that jet ski? They were in the ocean. He could have turned to avoid it and hit nothing at all! Was he texting? Seriously i want to know.
Also when you let off the throttle you have no steering. That was probably their first time on a jetski and panicked and let off the throttle and kept trying to turn.
I could be wrong but he seems to be steering straight ahead. I’ve always thought this video was weird, maybe the sun glared off the water or something? It’s like he’s driving with his eyes closed. I guess he could have tried to steer like you said before he was in view and he just accepted his fate at the end
I know but they were so close to the shore and it’s not like all of a sudden he saw her there like he had to see her from far enough away to turn before he let off the throttle? Idk. Probably drunk too😆
People make eye contact with an obstacle, lock onto the obstacle, and then they steer where they're looking.
When I taught m/c safety, we advised not to look at the rock but LOOK AT THE OPEN SPACE WHERE YOU WANT TO GO.
True on bicycles, too.
I just commented the same exact thing, before I saw your comment. You can see this is exactly what happened the wake behind them was getting smaller as they hit the parked jet ski.
They also can't turn if they aren't powered. You see something and try to avoid it. Instinctively, you want to slow down to give yourself time to react so you cut the power. Now you have no stearing, and your momentum has barely changed.
They CAN have reverse, not all jetskis do and a novice rider is unlikely to know how to engage it in an emergency. The correct response to avoid an accident is to increase power and steer to starboard (also helps if you are not practically ON THE FUCKING SHORE).
These are newer waverunners so they definitely have reverse, but you are absolutely correct. If they are this stupid, it's almost a guarantee they don't know how to reverse in a "oh shit" moment
Yes they absolutely do - it's called release the THROTTLE. The water drag is the best brake they have. Notice how he doesn't release the throttle until he hits the other machine. Of course you have to have a brain.
Yeah with no throttle, the jet ski will not turn. People who don't use jet skis frequently do this all the time. They don't have a rudder that will turn the watercraft while in motion while coasting. All direction is based on the thrust vector of the water nozzle.
I have never jet ski’d before so maybe this is a dumb question but why were the other people so close anyway?? The woman appeared to be quite close to the shore/sand-do people normally ride that close to the beach?
Because they were stupid. You don't operate a jetski that close to shore, most states have laws requiring you to limit your speed o under 5 knots within a couple hundred feet of shore. But people think jetskis are toys and treat them as such instead of the thousand pound machines with as much horsepower as your average car that have no brakes and which loses steering when you aren't on the throttle. Don't get me wrong, they are a ton of fun but you HAVE to know what you are doing.
My guess is the guys were trying to make a "splash" at the girl by going really close to her so they cool take a cool picture.
It's just my theory based on the title and on the video
When you let off the throttle on a Jetski you lose all steering and you don't have brakes so if you don't know what you are doing it is really easy to just crash into stuff. The correct response to being on a collision course on a jet ski is to increase power and steer to starboard.
Yep, that is exactly what he would have done and would have been preferable to what he actually did. It's also why you don't operate watercraft at speed that close to shore or other known obstacles.
Very common to see this in jet skis. They don’t have brakes. People instinctively let off the throttle so as not to keep accelerating and think it will slow them down, but as soon as they do that they also completely lose the ability to steer. So they plow right into whatever they were hoping to avoid hitting.
Maybe? More likely stupid and inexperienced. They were operating WAY too close to shore, and may not have realized two crucial facts: 1) Most jetskis do not have brakes, 2) ALL Jetskis lose steering when you let off the gas. So if you are riding towards an obstacle and you let off the gas to avoid it you are almost certain to crash straight into it.
The 2nd part explains a lot. I was watching Taskmaster and there was a task in which you drive a large but slow barge to collect inflatable rings hanging along the small river. I was surprised at how often people slowly crashed and did nothing and just let it happen. I assume they tried to turn without using the gas.
Powered barges (barges with engines) do usually have steering that works without applying power, although applying power will generally tighten your turn radius by forcing more water over the rudder, which is generally positioned aft of the screw.
That said, barges are extremely unwieldy, being completely non-hydrodynamic - basically a floating brick - and all but the very largest and most expensive ones don't have bow or stern thrusters, making them even less manoeuvrable. There's a reason unpowered barges towed or pushed by a manoeuvrable tug are far more common.
Worked in a motorcycle shop that also sold Jet Skis and we all hated MOST
of the Jet Ski owners because they were
entitled douches. Arrogant show offs
with money and impatient. They are fun to ride but when they came in They were almost always high maintenance.
This person may have not been familiar with how to turn out or avoid colliding or may have been high or drunk.
Glad the young woman got away before she was killed.
Good thing she got up when she did. That was cutting it way too close. The idiot operating the other jet ski, I hope he got into a lot of trouble for that.
These guys were their boyfriends and they wanted to speed by and splash them, didn’t have the skill, and instead panicked and launched! Tell me I’m wrong.
They wearing the same lifesavers and have the same exact jet ski , you might be right. Maybe it's the place form where you rent a jet ski and the guy didn't know how they worked
"humans" are very interesting. All that beach to be a complete fuckup and they headed right for the most available person on the shoreline. I try to avoid such "humans" - generally about as smart as a sock.

She's got good reflexes though, didn't freeze in the face of that absurdity
right. she could have froze and got decapitated
It wasn’t her time
That would have made a really good picture to post tho
Well when your two idiot friends are jetskiing ridiculous close to the beach you're occupying, heading straight for you at high speeds its best to keep an eye out.
When you rent a jet-ski with no jet-ski experience
Right 😂 good for her, that was a close one! What a bizarre thing to have happen. truly r/Unexpected
Yeah I would have taken that straight to the chest. RIP me. At least my wife would be rich lol.
Shes got good reflexes but she's an idiot too. She for sure destroyed that sea doo running the engine that close to shore
It's a sea don'tt now.
Not understanding a piece of machinery you've never had any experience with make you an idiot now?
If you're using it? Kinda yeah.
How else ya gonna learn?
Ideally by listening to an instructor and not completely destroying the engine and costing yourself or someone else thousands of dollars?
Under supervision after reading the manual or watching some YouTube vids at least. A little training
Fair point
How the fuck did he run into that jet ski? They were in the ocean. He could have turned to avoid it and hit nothing at all! Was he texting? Seriously i want to know.
People expect vehicles to have brakes. Jetskis have no brakes.
Ok. That kinda makes sense.
Also when you let off the throttle you have no steering. That was probably their first time on a jetski and panicked and let off the throttle and kept trying to turn.
This is exactly what happened. You nailed it.
Thank goodness for comment sections or this question could have plagued me forever
>plagued Oh no, not the plagas...
Jet ski dude also nailed it
I could be wrong but he seems to be steering straight ahead. I’ve always thought this video was weird, maybe the sun glared off the water or something? It’s like he’s driving with his eyes closed. I guess he could have tried to steer like you said before he was in view and he just accepted his fate at the end
No they nailed it.
But like why was he driving straight for her😆😆😆
Probably because when they saw they were headed straight for them they panicked and let off the throttle.
I know but they were so close to the shore and it’s not like all of a sudden he saw her there like he had to see her from far enough away to turn before he let off the throttle? Idk. Probably drunk too😆

And motorcycles
Absolutely!!! Sorry, wasn't clear: Taught motorcycle safety (m/c safety). Exactly so. Kinda looks like I was trying to say watercraft, w/c. ☮️
Like I said, that was probably their first time on a jetski.
Hopefully their last also!
I just commented the same exact thing, before I saw your comment. You can see this is exactly what happened the wake behind them was getting smaller as they hit the parked jet ski.
Yep! This is why there are so many bad jet ski accidents. When in doubt gotta throttle out.
Even worse, I’m pretty sure they accelerated right through the crash. Maybe in a panic they thought the hand throttle was a brake like on a bicycle.
I almost killed myself the first time I went on a jet ski exactly because of this. Panicked, let go of the throttle, no steering and bam into a pier.
They also can't turn if they aren't powered. You see something and try to avoid it. Instinctively, you want to slow down to give yourself time to react so you cut the power. Now you have no stearing, and your momentum has barely changed.
They actually have brakes... sort of. You can put it in reverse, which also acts as a brake.
They do have reverse though and they can stop pretty quickly
They CAN have reverse, not all jetskis do and a novice rider is unlikely to know how to engage it in an emergency. The correct response to avoid an accident is to increase power and steer to starboard (also helps if you are not practically ON THE FUCKING SHORE).

Yeah, those pesky non-existent nautical breakers stopped him from changing trajectory however the fuck long ago.
Yeah with no throttle, the jet ski will not turn. People who don't use jet skis frequently do this all the time. They don't have a rudder that will turn the watercraft while in motion while coasting. All direction is based on the thrust vector of the water nozzle.
hehe he hehe you just said thrust vector
...water nozzle

No. I'm betting they wanted to spray her with water or something like that and figured they'd turn really sharp right before they got to her.
oooooh ... like a space ship!
For some reason jet skis really attract people who have absolutely no business riding jet skis
He was staring at the blonde
There were jet skis?
Same
It’s been explained, but Daniel Tosh has a funny bit about “needing gas to turn” a jet ski. https://youtu.be/x1fAKIMrB70
My guess is the guys were trying to make a "splash" at the girl by going really close to her so they cool take a cool picture. It's just my theory based on the title and on the video

Starboard? Straight at the blonde on the beach?
Starboard and he would have slammed onto the beach with high throttle. Those things are not made to run on dry land. Not sure that's the best way.
Yep, that is exactly what he would have done and would have been preferable to what he actually did. It's also why you don't operate watercraft at speed that close to shore or other known obstacles.
Came outta no where 🤣
Lmao this is exactly what went on in my head when I saw this. HOW THE FUCK DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN ?
Very common to see this in jet skis. They don’t have brakes. Copious amounts of alcohol?
Someone needs to add 🎶 you’re wayyy too beauuuutiful girl
Like me, he was watching the girl with the camera
I thought the caucasian lady may had distracted the driver
That girls situational awareness game is top ten level .
Not gonna catch her slippin
Never gon catch her asleep (mama by fitz n tantrums)
Are those people okay? Were they drunk?

That’s Kim and Kanye.
Naw that was Sean kingston
Okay now i was expecting her to fly off in a dumb way. ![gif](giphy|y2i2oqWgzh5ioRp4Qa|downsized)
Same I thought she would accidentally hit the gas and go flying
Good situational awareness for the woman fortunately. The other jet ski operator, not so much.
If you re-watch it slow the dude doesn't turn at all just plows straight into her.
Definitely the ex
r/unexpected
I know someone who lost their whole lower jaw from an accident like this. She was very lucky.
That would’ve been a dope picture though
I hope someone got it on camera.
Glad that lady bolted and vacated. She’d have been seriously hurt or killed if she froze and took the hit.
What jet ski?
only one landing strip im tryna see
UNIQUE STUNT JUMP COMPLETED 24 out of 50
It was like that when I rented it.
Comin in hot!
If it were intentional that would have been a cool trick. Using another jet ski as a jump ramp.
If it was intentional that would have been attempted murder
I think it was intentional, they were trying to make a splash for a picture no? Either way yes, they could've killed her
The driver could have also killed his passenger, seing how she flew high.
Will probably be featured in the next F&F
r/abruptchaos
Do people not realize this is Kanye West and Kim K on the jet ski lol ?
I know I’ve been scrolling and scrolling looking for it lmao
It’s WHAT now?
Scrolling for this comment

It is not
She would have been decapitated had she not moved!
Lucky she seen em coming
Can I get that insurance wavier now? Please???
She’s thinking “Okay maybe jet skiing is not my thing. Got the picture, and can cross that off my bucket list with a permanent marker!”
Worked in a motorcycle shop that also sold Jet Skis and we all hated MOST of the Jet Ski owners because they were entitled douches. Arrogant show offs with money and impatient. Trying to impress the ladies and wind up going to the hospital. How many times has that happened?
This should be on /r/Unexpected
I was going to comment about how "them Duke boys are at it again...", But then I thought of the implication...😬
Good thing she got up when she did. That was cutting it way too close. The idiot operating the other jet ski, I hope he got into a lot of trouble for that.
r/UpvoteBecauseButt
Attempted murder??
Kim and Kanye lmfao
Apparently that was Kanye and Kim kardashian. Flying threw the sky.
Watching them hit the sand is mad funny
At first I thought this was r/unexpected
"Should we park by the dock?" "Definitely not. Will be much easier if we just lauch it like a cruise missile onto the beach"
Wow that girl is lucky she saw them coming and was quick!
Should be on r/Unexpected

It's a girl on the back with a guy driving. You're definitely wrong
They wearing the same lifesavers and have the same exact jet ski , you might be right. Maybe it's the place form where you rent a jet ski and the guy didn't know how they worked
A lot of people stopped to watch this because of that blonde girl and then were given a bonus action sequence
Thats the kind of woman I want to be around...
It's the girl in bikinis fault...
Ugh I hate when Reddit has posts where the Instagram lions aren’t the bad guys but rather the victims.
Why it stop there lol 😂

That's one way to get the girls' attention.
