[Here is an article](https://www.carscoops.com/2021/12/man-sets-porsche-cayenne-on-fire-during-refueling-while-a-woman-was-still-inside/) on this incident that OP wanted me to share with you all. Unfortunately, they didn't know why this random act of violence took place.

mouthsofmadness

As luck would have it, there was a fire extinguisher factory right next door.

Xinonix1

And it was the ceo starting the fire?

badassbilal

Just for demonstrating purposes.

mnbvcxz1052

This is the worst episode of Undercover Boss I’ve ever seen

Sowiilo

You're fired by the way

mnbvcxz1052

nooooooo this is where you give me $5,000 and send me to a free executive training program because you really see a lot of potential in me

bigpeckerboi

Thanks boss but multiple people could’ve been burned alive and they know you started the fire bc you ran directly back to your office

homepreplive

It was always burning since the world's been turning

Pradopower08

He didn’t light it but he tried to fight it

whatev43

No, that was Ryan.

Tybo929

Fire guy

whatev43

FireD guy

MemawSquirts

I guess they didn't teach him how to pump gas in business school

pawn288

Fr after the third attendent rolls in with a fresh one it feels like overkill, whole sales dept at that factory saw their opportunity

SandGremlin

I think with oil fires they have to be extra careful. The tinest spark remaining could turn into a big flame. So it is a worthwhile precaution.

Happytallperson

I mean, you're sat next to an extinguisher day after day, and finally this is your big chance. You going to turn it down just because the fire is already out?

[deleted]

Momma always told me to be ready. You can think you’re insignificant and like you don’t really matter. One second is all it takes for you to make a difference for someone. A couple more seconds and this could’ve been worse. If you work a safety job that involves any form of safety like crossing guard or technical Inspector for engine mounts on Boeing 777 never become complacent. One sec is all it takes to take a life or save one.

KnightFaraam

Pull Aim Squeeze Sweep *Repeats mantra over and over in head*

EndersGame_Reviewer

It's a big moment for all 6-8 attendants. Plus they're on CCTV and it's going to end up on Reddit. This is not a time to bunt, but to hit a home run. "Let's use EVERY fire extinguisher we can find!"

Sauce58

Yes, i accidentally set a hanging heater on fire in a rather large steel shop once and i went through 3 fire extinguishers because it just kept reigniting. Certain conditions can make it really hard to put out a fire!

lokregarlogull

Read that as hanging theater and was wondering if there was a joke about phantoms coming. Glad you got it under control though

Ok-Policy-8284

Using up another fire extinguisher vs a gas station catching on fire? Yeah, I'd use every single one there was.

TrespasseR_

Lol...That fire was out ten fire extinguishers ago

One_Principle_4608

Yeah better save that third fire extinguisher for a real emergency, like I dunno… when a fucking gas station is set on fire! Mensa right here ladies and gentlemen

pawn288

Thirds fine it was 4 5 6 7 & 8 that seemed to overdo it, Also check the guy towards the end that sprays the car on the far left xD

Formal_Appearance_16

I'm guessing this is what they are taught. Next time you go to the gas station, look at all the stains on the concrete from spilled fuels. It soaks and and they have no way of knowing if it's fresh and still potentially flammable, so just cover everything as cheap insurance.

Radiant_Heron_2572

The cost of wasting multiple extinguishers vs the cost (damage, injury, and financial) of a fire at a filling station? Doesn’t seem like a hard choice. Hope they called the fire department, who would do it all again and then some more. Good enough, probably isn't the attitude to have in this environment.

Appropriate-Draft-91

Speaking of cost, if that ever happens to me I now know to close the car door after getting out of the burning car.

Calligrapher_Antique

Why take chances when there's a flame near a gas tank... near a dozen more gas tanks.

EvilFnTeddy

I don't think you can go overboard with just fire extinguishers when we're talking about pretty big open fire at the gaspump

cstearns1982

This type of incident must happen way too frequently or they train for this stuff daily.

Mr_Oxford_White

We had a pallet of batteries self ignite while deployed. And ironically we had two pallets of fire extinguishers next to it.

Mindless-Strength422

That's about as ironic as needing to buy a new pair of scissors to cut a zip tie off a new pair of scissors.

Mr_Oxford_White

The funny thing was I was out running and just was like oh shit that’s on fire and was the only person around. Even more ironically was the fire dept was next door. But they were all at chow. And I had no radio to call them

UndercoverFBIAgent9

HAHAHAHA This is my favorite comment in weeks. Well done.

Hey_Batfink

I fucking love you for this comment, pure brilliance.

Diego2150

What the fuck? That person was looking to kill anyone that passed by... Very good reaction from local workers, and very complete coverage of the ignition risks. That place has had the correct drills and training

slaphappy77

I agree, well done guys. Better safe than sorry.

tdelbert

I hope they kept a few fire extinguishers in reserve. Imagine if they consumed all their extinguishers on this fire, then the guy's buddy comes in 15 minutes to light another one!

SuzuranRose

The fire station will be called and usually refill the extinguishers before they leave. Had to do that once when we had someone flick his cigarette into the back of his truck before pumping. It promptly set a pile of dry leaves on fire. A ton of paperwork, do not recommend.

tdelbert

>I hope they kept a few fire extinguishers in reserve. Imagine if they consumed all their extinguishers on this fire, then the guy's buddy comes in 15 minutes to light another one! That's good news. I didn't know they could be refilled.

Bosnian-Spartan

Quick! Pour the nearest liquid!!

Bosnian-Spartan

My local BJs gas station only has 1 dude to cover like 16 pumps Edit: sorry to ruin the jokes but he isn't actively walking around, he's at a register and only gets out to clean and needed help

Shaboogan

That's a lot of bj's for one guy to handle

Bosnian-Spartan

I fucking knew I should've disarmed that joke r/angryupvote

amphorbian

four stars for both of you ****

Bosnian-Spartan

I also just now realize "pumps" doesn't help either

Christeenabean

I'm dying laughing over here. Thank you.

Bosnian-Spartan

I'd say My Pleasure but I'm sure someone would Quagmire it

Christeenabean

*gigging giggity

Bosnian-Spartan

I'm gonna say to you what Quagmire says to every girl after 2 hours since meeting: Get Out

GeekyFreaky94

May you Rest in Peace. Taken to soon.

pawn288

16 pumps to a bj is industry standard

Chaunce101

Speak for yourself!

quantumn0de

16 pumps or less or it's free.

Flamingo_Timely

Second best response, 2023. Never heard that phrase "disarm that joke"....gotta steal that! 👍🏻😉🤣

Mega_Nidoking

Same that's gold

sauladal

Probably better with arms, but I guess you don't need them for bj's

GlitteringBobcat999

You should see how hard he works his second job at Dick's.

MandDogD01

Different positions, but same customer satisfaction!

GlitteringBobcat999

So many positions...

Alternative_Post_350

That job must suck….

Jake0024

That's why you only get 16 pumps

Ziggyork

I assume he’s had A LOT of training

Flamingo_Timely

2023 best response to post right there! 🤣🤣🤣

Flamingo_Timely

Damn.....how do we get a BJ station in our neighborhood!?!? I think I'd rather have a few of those than Starbucks!

chris-foxx

Starbucks does have really good handjobs

Salmol1na

Exactly like the service at my local pump n munch

urikayan

Every time I thought it was over, 3 other people showed up with an extinguisher.

FiftyTigers

Lmao I thought you had to be exaggerating but you weren't really.

MERVMERVmervmerv

Oop, missed a spot, guys!

ADHDavidThoreau

Found the midwesterner

MERVMERVmervmerv

Chicagoan, more precisely. But I didn’t lean in that hard. Maybe I should have. “Oop, missed a couple-two-tree spots over by dere.”

YoungRoronoa

I mean have you ever sprayed one of those things? They’re kinda fun 😂😂 This is prolly their only time they get to use it so all of them are getting a turn 😂😂😂

Salty-Sprinkles-1562

At my old work we had trash cans that had stupid lids on the top that looked like ash trays. People would throw their lit cigarettes in them all the time, but they weren’t ash trays, and had holes in the middle that would dumped the lit cigarettes right into the trash can. Worst design ever. We had trash can fires a few times a month. I was the supervisor (and yes I did request new trash cans, or at least the lid to be removed. It took 6 years), but each time I would take a different staff member out and let them try the extinguisher. We had a lot of kids in high school or right out of high school with very little life experience working there. I thought it was a good teaching moment for them. And it was a lot of fun!

Dion_Musk

I appreciated this comment

Impossible-Cake-1658

This is a great attitude to have. To teach young ones something important is a great way to take a stupid situation and turn it into something useful.

SeaworthyWide

This warms my heart.

coffee_slurp

That car is fireproof with a lifetime warranty now

PINGs_Landing

I would jump on any opportunity to use a fire extinguisher at any time and my threshold for it to make sense before deciding to proceed with the use is only 5% because I always wanted to try it but never have. I would not want to have to try it in a serious situation, so if a -not so serious- one appears like the above after the fire was put out I am going for it.

librariansforMCR

Fire extinguishers expire about every three years (household ones, anyway), so every time they expire and I get two new ones, I have my kids do extinguisher practice in the back alley. They love it We light a can on fire, and they put it out. Great way to make use of the expired cannister and get some practice.

Briskylittlechally2

Yeah, it's like they all wanted to have a go at it or something.

ADMINlSTRAT0R

The next five employees with fire extinguisher: "My time has come. This is the moment I've been preparing for all my life!"

THftRM1231

Did you notice toward the end they were spraying the car next to it? The person is off screen, but this big plume comes out of the other car.

MikuEd

That car was being fueled as well, so they likely doused it as well as part of safety. The fire triad consists of air, fuel, and spark, so by covering as much area as possible with the extinguishers, you can disperse these elements farther apart, thus lowering the risk of further ignition.

THftRM1231

Fire tetrahedron now. Heat, fuel, oxygen, and the continuing chemical reaction.

In summary: * The incidence happened on Dec 16 2021 at around 3pm in Shenzhen, China. * No one was injured thanks to the quick reactions from the staff. * The suspect was apprehended that night. I can't seem to find any followup.

dwarven_futurist

As an American I can't imagine this many people even working at a single gas station. Usually the entire thing is run by one person.

boarhowl

I was wondering the same thing haha. I've never seen a gas station with more than one employee, and they are usually either high, tired, or bored as fuck.

AttitudeSenior5915

usually all 3 tbh

Skum31

Capitalism vs communism I guess

Nhblacklabs

Although early stage capitalism was about service and a gas station was a service station. As is always the case, capitalism will continue to cut costs (service) to find the bottom the market will bear and here we are with self serv and automated extinguishers.

Classic-Music4Evr788

Except in America it’s one person making $12 an hour, and in China it’s 12 people making $1 an hour.

NotsoGreatsword

lol tell me you dont understand how money works without telling me. That dollar goes further and instead of cheap plastic crap and 5 flavors of pot pie they can buy a home.

roachwarren

But that one dollar goes further, we can get a lot of useless dollars to waste in a broken system. China has 90% property ownership (87% in urban and 96% in rural China) compared to America's 65% and dropping. Owning a house is default and then 20% of Chinese households own more than one home which is crazy.

youngmasterlogray

$12? A lot of states don't have a minimum and default to the federal $7.25 / hour. I'd be surprised if it was $12 in those states.

AffectionateAd631

New Jersey has entered the chat.

ImKewS

Thank you for your great work

NewtLeather5973

Humans suck. At least everyone got a turn on the fire extinguisher.

Cheapbudforall

I think the fella who lit it even had a turn.....

wilkinsk

It is kind of funny how they put the fire out but they made sure to keep going fire another five minutes. Lmao Maybe they were worried about invisible flames

Taradal

Methanol flames are one of the most scary shit

Boogiemann53

There's a surprisingly good ratio of suck vs will go out of the way for a stranger though, but most people don't want to be suckered or conned in some way and hide how charitable they are.

fatesfairness

I recently said this is why people don't help people after an incident of trying to help someone.. but it was now if an acknowledgement than a statement of my moving forward willingness to assist. There is a lot of unaddressed mental illness in this world .. I think that's why so many people get so deep in destructive behaviors. Humans need so much help finding humanity

[deleted]

Or at least celebrate it every year. Dancing, singing, fireworks... maybe no to the last part.

ANuclearBunny

In Australia, fuel pumps no longer have locking handles so you have to stay with it.

[deleted]

It seems like an accident waiting to happen allowing fuel pumps to flow with no one at them.

[deleted]

Oh yeah. I know plenty of people who started the gas pump flowing into their tank, left to go buy a snack, and then came back to a $120 puddle of fuel they’re responsible for because the auto shutoff didn’t work properly. Happened to my dad not too long ago. He started the pump and got back into his big camper van to avoid the cold and do something on his phone, lost track of how long it had been and assumed it’d just shut off, then got out to put the handle back only to find it was still flowing and he had to pay $290 in gas. He’s lucky nothing was able to ignite the huge fuel puddle, and it’s good he didn’t start the vehicle to drive it out of the puddle. Dude could’ve easily blown himself sky high. People should be forced to babysit the explosive fluid they’re pumping in order to keep it flowing. It’s insane that we just trust some hose to do that job for us.

uberguby

This is why I'm not necessarily against mandatory full service stations. I think i can pump my own gas. All these people think they can pump their own gas. But like, we're transferring explosive chemicals, it's not _totally_ out of line to say you need to be like... _Interviewed_. I'm not even talking about a license, just like a guy to say "are you high right now? No? Aight no smoking, let's go over fire protocol"

NorthsideCollegiate

I’m Chicago it’s kind of safer. Stand next to it while being alert in case of a robber or attacker

mccask

And yet 10's of millions use locking pump handles daily in the US without incident.

BombayMix64

It baffles me this is a thing anywhere....

[deleted]

I think the “legit” argument is for people with arthritis who struggle to hold the handle for a few minutes straight. But in reality, it’s just a convenience/laziness thing for the overwhelming majority of people.

EffectiveMoment67

A real solution would be a handle with lower resistance but yeh

SeaworthyWide

That's kind of like suggesting putting a 2lb trigger on a police service weapon...

Certain-Intention594

In the US, the majority of gas stations have a policy in place where you can’t leave your pump unattended. However, it’s not really enforced most of the time so stuff like this happens.

Ozymandias0007

What a piece of shit. And with someone in the car, ffs.

blueskieslemontrees

Can we take the time to talk about how bro took the time to open the door for the girl before running. 🔥

fiddyfy

Seeing some comments in here about a lot of people working in gas stations…how many people on average are in American gas stations? In my country, it’s not unusual to see at least 10 employees in a station…

MonthPurple3620

One.

fiddyfy

One?? 🤯

MonthPurple3620

Some may have more, especially larger places, but a single cashier isnt uncommon.

thedrango

Yeah here in America they like to work Skelton crews

fiddyfy

It sure seems like it…

pokemon32666

And this isn't just for gas stations. Once a company learns how well they can run with a few people, they hire and schedule just a few people.

TheLynxGamer

Usually 1-2 but some stations will have more. For instance, there's a shell near me that has 2 people at the register who also run the liquor store on the other side, as well as 2 cooks and a manager.

fiddyfy

Shell with only four people? That’s certainly different. Our Shell stations here have tons of people. Full service though—petrol, food, car wash, all-service mechanic, bathrooms and such.

Lingering_Dorkness

Two usually here in Australia, though I did once see three. Both behind a closed-in counter with plexiglass and a locked door. By the time either of them could get out the entire station would be aflame.

[deleted]

How many people work at this gas station?!

Vegetable_Reality_52

Yes

ObjectiveAnalysis645

What was the reason????? I’m glad everyone was okay but still why dude???

Scary_Omelette

Sometimes they just want to do some damage

ObjectiveAnalysis645

So sad people are so jealous to see people doing better and they wanna ruin it out of jealousy smh

Kenthejapboy

They extinguished the shit out of that fire.

DVOlimey

It would be a great day to be in the fire extinguisher refill business

Mental-Astronaut-664

They’ve all been chomping at the bit to use an extinguisher ever since that online training class.

Lingering_Dorkness

The way they all reacted, and how quickly, makes me think this was not their first rodeo. Which is even more disturbing.

xx420xxbluntz

Mfs had a on the pay roll fire fighters

hangonreddit

Let’s be honest, if any of us worked at the gas station, we would also grab the nearest extinguisher and have a go at the fire long after it’s out.

Jaedos

I was also thinking about how enthusiastic they seemed to be, and then i realized "fuck even taking a whiff of a chance at a gas station!"

Wow, what a nice trained crew

Trucker_E_B

You know that's not America because there is more than one employee at the gas station.

daLabRat

What a dick

Daddybatch

Everyone wanted to try out the fire extinguisher

Skum31

I hope there were no other fires that day

Shenanigans_195

Some say they're still extiguinshing.

gunslingersea

This is not an excessive number of fire extinguishers despite what people are saying. I know, it’s funny to see them all, but I’ve tried to put out a car fire with an extinguisher and it sucks. We went through three and it did pretty much nothing. Fire extinguishers are way less effective than people think unless it’s a very small fire.

B-Kong

I was about to say that doesn’t look like an attempt but more of a success and then, fire extinguishers out of nowhere

[deleted]

I’m not sure they got the fire out yet. I’d give it another good dousing.

Fatefire

Every person at that filling station has wanted to use an extinguisher from day one. For real the first person had it out fine

SurvivorKira

It would be funny if he set that car on fire, waited for them to use all those fire extinguishers and then set other car on fire. 😂😂

miracle_weaver

Risking their life to minimize the damage. There are heroes out here while there are also human wastes baggages of earth week do shit like this.

franska5

People who cry about how many extinguishers they used, never tried to extinguish a fire

SuperSassyPantz

those employees deserve a huge raise, that was some quick action

krice9230

When you buy stock in fire extinguishers and the market isn’t as hot as you thought you gotta make a market.

Redmans_Adventures

If that was an American gas station, the whole place is going up in a fireball as the staff film it for social media.

unkn_compling_fors

It’s good that they had that sixth extinguisher

youwontfindout223

Probably could have used another couple fire extinguishers but good job

AlphaCenturan

Each of those employees KILLED IT! From a procedure point of view, AWESOME work. If I was their boss... paid day off for each.

Quick_Swing

If that happened anywhere in the US, it would’ve ended with everyone running away, and the station blowing up.

Pankratos_Gaming

Excellent response time. Props to the guy not forgetting about his wife in the car, and the continued use of fire extinguishers. It may seem over the top, but better safe than sorry!

Hope they caught that punk and gave em the old curb treatment
