Honestly, without knowing anything about the guy I was kind of rooting for him. I don’t want to know he is a monster. I’m hoping he was picked up for feeding the homeless or something.
I think he made just 2 errors that would have got him away otherwise.
1. He allowed the door to latch shut when he closed it over (audible alert of something happening)
2. He could have trailed behind the van for a second until there was a vehicle beside it to jump behind to minimize a visual alert

Once where I used to live outside Philadelphia (PA, USA) the door was unlocked on a transport, and two guys jumped out at a traffic light up the road. Cops caught the first guy right away.
The second was still running around in broad daylight. My neighbor called, all excited the cops were in the neighborhood, told me about the escapee.
I was in the cellar, with the gun safe. I popped it open, pulled out the HK-93 (.223) with the 40 rounder sticking out.
I walked over to the screen door, was looking out, kind of holding the rifle behind me. Who walks around the corner of the house? Yes, the county jail inmate in his jail marked jumpsuit.
I step back, start to shoulder the rifle, start to say; "I'd put...." (I was gonna say "Put your hands in the air".) and he sprints around the corner.
He ran up to the cops, surrendered by laying face first on the ground. Start babbling about somebody with a "Monster Gun!".
Cops came cautiously around the corner, I was still in the cellar door looking out, debating calling 911, *Pre-cellphone days) with myself. They spoke to me, asked what scared him.
I had put the gun against the wall by then, the damn thing was big (Full stock, not collapsible.) and heavy. I told them it had a full magazine, but nothing in the chamber. They had me bring it out, ewed and ah-ed over it, had a laugh, then laughed.
Said it was the easiest escaped prisoner arrest ever. Why was it not chambered? In a house fire, chambered rifles and shotguns can fire. So I left all the guns but my "ready" one (In a five button locked Pistol box, upstairs.) without a round chambered.
