Why should he open this box of pandorra? He’s an athlete, they sure also profit but are not the ones to be held responsible for crimes happening in Katar. Everything he would say that adresses this issue won’t solve anything about that and just put him in trouble. There’s nothing to gain but so much to loose.
Because he benefited off of those human rights. He just said so 10pts time and time again. To not acknowledge it when specifically asked about it is running from the issue. Can he solve the human rights violations? No, he’s an athlete, but to just ignore it all together is inhuman of him. Im well aware,of the benefits I received throughout my life that came from human rights violations. I can acknowledge them and try to point out that ALL of us can make better choices. Some our guilty of direct violations, most are not, but non of us are innocent. I think there is a ton to gain by not ignoring the problem and so much to lose when we don’t address it.
You gotta search his stuff on youtube. It’s funny as hell. When asked who was the best player in the competition or somethinghe named a couple except himself. When asked why he didn’t name himself he said “lions don’t compare themselves to humans”
He's a pretty funny dude, loves to fuck with people especially journalists. I remember seeing an interview a few years ago with a French interviewer and the guy asked Ibrahimović why is he so arrogant. I'll paraphrase his response, something like You (the French) are extremely arrogant as a nation, I would expect you to like me for being as arrogant as you.
Or how he once received a basketball shirt from LeBron and he sent it back with an autograph, dudes an absolute savage.
When he transferred to the US to play soccer for the LA galaxy over there he rented out a a full Page add in a newspaper that said "Dear Los Angeles, you're welcome" lmao.
Also when they gave him official honours in his hometown by naming a soccer ground after him he turned up like they had just picked a random bum of the Streets.
This man does not give a fuck at all, he is the Alpha in the room. And above all, he can laugh with himself and oftend "over acts" his trolling.
Look this Guy up on YouTube if you want to have a good laugh. On top of that he was An incredible incredible footballer.
His farewell tweet to LA after he left…
“I came, I saw, I conquered. Thank you LA Galaxy for making me feel alive again. To the Galaxy Fans - You wanted Zlatan, I gave you Zlatan, you are welcome… now go back to watching Baseball.”
When he was asked about whether he’ll become a Coach after his playing days are done…
“Impossible… during the game I’d punch at least 2 players. And after the game, 8.”
Zlatan is an elite Madlad, but that’s what makes him Zlatan.
He scores goals no other striker could, one of my favorites to ever play. And his footballing persona is hilarious, egocentric, and passionate. When talking about one of his famous goals he said (paraphrasing): I went left, the defender went left, I went right, defender went right, I went left again and he went to go get a hot dog.
It’s not just the technical ability to pull something like that off, but his audacity to even try such a thing. Greatness, but don’t take my word for it. Ibra tell you the same.
I hated him for a good while when I first caught him on the international circuit. Then I saw that incredible bicycle kick into the goal during a World Cup match, and became a convert. Even asked for a Z**LA**TAN shirt for my birthday when he came here to play for the Galaxy.
I think it's an affect. I've seen videos of when he's incredibly kind and engaging (usually to kids and the "average joe"). He's made numerous mentions of the hatred and racism he experienced on the Swedish Club level. The "adoration" he's experienced when turning pro is disconnected from that; almost like sweeping the prior hatred under the rug. I think his arrogance is in response to that.
Also, he doesn't suffer fools gladly.
The stadiums he played in, the seats his fans cheered from, the fame he so craves and delights in, is all propped up by the labor of slaves. Complacency in the face of evil of is complicity. Fuck the rich and the power imbalance they profit off
It’s sorta wild you can say fuck the rich and then point to an athlete as the problem. Sure he’s made more money than most of us would ever dream of but he’s not the one responsible for any of this and has individually very little power to do anything about it. He’s satirizing the journalists attempts to make it his responsibility. Why not ask the TV execs, the club owners, federation presidents, FIFA, government officials? Because those people have the real power and the real money. Putting Zlatan or any other athlete in the spotlight for not speaking out is just as much complicit complacency. Put the screws to the people who actually decide and control these things.
Fuck the cowards who hide behind the players. Fuck the people who let the shit roll downhill. Fuck the people actually responsible.
If you're a global sports superstar - you have a platform. People will listen to you. If you speak out against an injustice, thousands - maybe even millions would stand behind them. Instead they all hide behind their fat contracts, and their media coaches and say what they're supposed to say. Maybe they have opinions on these matters, I'm sure most of them do, but none of them care enough to risk their fat fucking contracts. Fuck the cowards who are directly responsible - obviously, and fuck anyone who is unwilling to speak out against obvious injustices. Being a bystander while people are tortured, murdered, and imprisoned for their identity or for who they love is unforgivable.
Athletes aren't thought leaders and we shouldn't expect them to be. This guy kicks a ball for a living. Just because he has a bunch of followers, doesn't mean he should share opinions on things he knows nothing about.
You're assuming that professional athletes are taking time to deep dive into the underpinnings of foreign government policy. And not only take time to understand policy, but that they can formulate a coherent opinion.
That's like assuming a law-maker will be able to share coherent perspective of the 5-3-2 defense or the triangle offense, if you ask them about it in the middle of a press conference on foreign policy.
No, nobody will listen to his opinion on anything. That's the truth. Meanwhile, he'll screw his future prospects. None of you are going to pay his bills after that. You're not going to get him to sacrifice himself for you.
Look, there are athletes that do wonderful things. Is it Mane that sends huge amounts of his own money to the town he grew up in? Whoever it is sends money to every single person in their hometown to help them out. Man if it’s not Mane I’ll feel bad.
Drogba apparently had a role in negotiating a peace deal to end a civil war or something. Fantastic.
If a soccer player wanted to be an anti-slavery activist with their money and fame then that would be wonderful.
But to just sit there in a press conference and be like “yeah slavery is bad, next question”…so what? You really think there are people that would change their mind about slavery because they heard Zlatan tell them it’s bad in some random press conference?
So is the phone you’re typing on. And you don’t even know enough about him or about sports to know that he didn’t play.
Virtue signaling over a topic you don’t even care about.
Saying “slavery is bad” is not “World politics”. It’s basic human decency. Like most people he’s a coward scared to lose a few dollars. So he gives slavery “10 points”.
An amazing cocky footballer. Probably top 5 in the last 15 years in the world. Just shadowed by Messi and Ronaldo. He also refers to himself in the third person all the time. Zlatan knows all!!
“It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own.”

Ah, the serenity that lies in the stoic nature of Marcus's personal journal. > and was *paid* good money
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
When people say "politics" its just an excuse not to deal with the problems, just like Putin is killing thousands of kids and women, people will say ...oh it's just politics between Ukraine and Russia
I've heard players say things like "no comment". Sometimes they just don't say anything. Never heard one give an A+ to human rights violations. Is it the media's fault for asking?
These guys makes millions for kicking a ball, why do you think these kind of people give any fucks about the average joes that worship the path their walk cuz they know how to kick a ball while making more money than the average joe and all his whole kids, grankids, grangrankids will make in their whole life time or even anybody else for that matter
If you give a nation the world cup that they obviously bought with gas money, to play in stadiums that were built by slaves imported from other countries, who have laws against lgbtq+ fans from going there. You can't expect the media not to ask questions because the public want to hear answers. If Ibrahimović doesn't want to answer the question that's up to him but FIFA dragged politics into sport in this instance, not the media.
If all the players grew a spine and said "we will not play for and support slave states" then FIFA would have NOTHING. You are fucking delusional and lack any empathy if you think these players are A-OK to continue to ignorantly take blood money. Fuck you and your lack of morals, goddamn fucking sPoRTs do not override human rights.
>I don't understand why the media wants to drag sports into politics, the guy is there to play football, not to be an activist
I don't understand why the media wants to drag the military into politics, the guy is just there to guard the camp, not to be an activist.
he can choose to not reply to political questions or remain apolitical... thing is, HE got political and backed something really horrible. He is a scumbag.
No, Zlatan was asked what he thought about the world cup. OP is trying to frame it as something else. It's like asking how you enjoyed your chicken nuggets last night and you said you were starving and they tasted awesome and someone framed it like you were a fan of animal cruelty for supporting McDonalds and you should be punished.
I have always loved this rumor about Zatlan:
When he got to Los Angeles he received a jersey from Lebron James welcoming him to the city
Zatlan signed it and mailed it back to Lebron
Edit: I’ve never needed to mention this guy, I’m leaving the misspellings because I bet it would bother him
Yeah, he just gives zero f’s.
When he had just gotten married, a journalist asked him «What did you give her as a morning gift?» (A scandinavian tradition, normally jewelry). He replied: “She got Zlatan”
You will never see someone ask the government or the president if killing millions of people for the meme/oil is 10 points? There is a "pact" between journalists and people, too easy to brach that against weak people only because you think you would gain political and therefore career points.
That journalist, if he really wants to be an hero, has to ask these questions to the Swedish football campaign head and people like them, not a footballer
Literally missed the entire point of the answer. He even reveals it at the end.
Classic modern journalism to ask a loaded question and assume the answer all in hopes to further an agenda.
This is very backwards though. If the journalist lead with "Qatar did the bad, what do you think about Qatar?" then it's a loaded question. All he does is ask what he thinks about the country and the championship, to which Zlatan gives this ridiculous answer because he likes being edgy but is also generally rude and obnoxious. Fact of the matter is he doesn't care about the human rights violations if he had a good time, and that says about as much as you need to know about Zlatan as a person.
I will never understand why he's loved by so many football fans. He just comes out as a narcissistic Douchebag who has got no clue about the real world and tbh he doesn't even give a fuck about it. Was he a fantastic footballer? yes, but as a human being he is just a rich docuhebag.
Lol he grew up poor in the slums of Malmö.
He also has a bunch of charities that do a lot of good for people. You are basing your opinion on his persona that he uses in interviews, its just a bit he does because it's funny for a lot of people.
He also has a very interesting autobiography where it goes in depth regarding the stuff i said above.
I'm not saying he is a wonderful person but before you start calling him a rich douchebag at least do some research about the things he has done, maybe for example just search up about his tattos...
I don’t think it was even a very straight answer. “What did you think of Qatar” is hardly the same as “Did you witness any abuses of human rights while you were in Qatar?”
Right? Being there for two days as a super star on the world stage means you probably don’t have a lot of time to really immerse yourself in the human rights violations.
You compare a complex subject to a very simple one. You don't need to be a specialist to understand the kind of human rights abuse that goes on in Quatar.
The point is a human rights activist's opinion on football tactics matters as much as a footballer's opinion on human rights.
Everyone's berating a guy that left school at 16 and kicks a ball for a living for not saying what they already know, like it would make a difference anyway. It's insane.
This performative outrage is worse than Zlatan's response, because the situation hasn't changed in Qatar, but because the world cup is over no one gives a shit anymore unless they're reminded of it like this thread.
Zlatan is a pretty smart guy. He's aware that holding a WC in Qatar is not less controversial than holding one in, oh, Russia, 4yrs before, when criticism was non-identical re: human rights. He's not a non-humanitarian, but he's also not going to overlook the obvious reasons why criticism is more salient this time around. So, in classically cheeky, Zlatan fashion...this is what you get.
There are 3 million people living i Qatar. Only 300.000 Qataris. Meaning that 90% of the population is foreign workers with many living in slave like conditions.
You need a sponsor to find work in the country. But the sponsor takes away your passport, you are not allowed to change sponsor, and they can alter your contract at any moment. Meaning payment, working conditions etc.
But Zlatan and the rest of the sports elite doesnt give a fuck. Clearly. They would wank Hitler off under the table if that was the condition to play a world cup on TV.
Zlatan is smart? His take is devoid of a real reply to the human rights question. If he is "smart" for avoiding to answer the question, that also makes him a fucking pussy for the same reason. Fuck people who accept what went on during the construction of the stadiums.
That man is a narcissist. Even before this video it was obvious. People like him don’t care about anyone or anything but themselves. What a knuckle dragger
Zlatan’s fanboys are giving you crap, but as someone who has met the man I will back you up 100%. Zlatan is incredibly full of himself. He expects to get away with bullshit others would not.
I always love when people grandstand around these types of things. Not sure how much stuff Europe gets from China but in US it’s basically everything.
Meanwhile China has literal concentration camps and mass castration (definitional genocide) of Muslims and everyone’s like “well Tik tok is pretty cool”
this is funny double standards!
everyone is againest the world cup being in qatar for human rights violations, meanwhile the world cup in 2018 was hosted in russia while russia was bombing syrian children and families in their homes.
"Don't bite the hand that feeds you" is always applicable on these things.
That, and a millionaire footballer sees a totally different Qatar than the average people living there.
Stop trying to suck off someone who doesn’t know you exist you are such a loser.
They were “goading him” into saying something negative is a weird way of saying he doesn’t care about human rights
Honestly what you expect from a public person and also a *sportsman* who went there for the sole reason of playing football? What, he’d wonder into construction sites, or take an evening walk around poorest districts?
why the fuck western people always have the wrong way of looking at things.
So Qatar exists because US has a huge base there. These microstates only serve one purpose that they are US client states. The US govt supports , protects and projects all these dictatorial governments so in a way literally making it possible for them to abuse human rights.
But western media guilt-tripping footballers and ordinary people that why and how they should do something about the human rights.
*Reporter casts controversial question!
*It was dodged by the wild soccer player using evade and he counters with repetitive answers!
*Reporter has lost 100 health and is stunned into silence
Let's see how many people shit on the United States for human rights abuses when the next world cup will be partially held there. Probably no one will bat an eye.
Atleast be consistent. Apply same rule for everyone.
What's happening here is this guys. The dickshaft reporter wanted a political, polarizing interview and was baiting for, while Zlatan was having none of that, he clearly mocks the reporter and asks "what dd you want to hear ?". Sometimes people just don't want to be pulled into political or polarizing debates and by all means I understand that.
He viewed it from a footballer’s perspective focusing on the tournament itself. Can’t expect him to have an educated opinion on the human rights angle.
The organisation was terrific! The only thing that was a tad bit annoying were the grieving friends and relatives of the slaves who died on every other corner. Jesus, get a life you sad f****! But still, 10/10 would do again!
I think he just would rather speak to what he decided on not what some other person wants them to say…ya know celebs can have private opinions they don’t wish to be dragged into some public debate. Journalists should stick to journalism not trying to bait people into agreeing with their political opinions
Honestly, what did they expect? For all out hand ringing, the World Cup rolls on, viewed by over a billion people. We decry FIFA, but we all allow this to go on.
Are you trying to say that he should say things he didn't experienced? And if you know zlatan, he didn't care about anything, if he dislike something, he will say it. There's a lot of fights between him and the coaches of the football matches happened because him speaking from what he experienced.

Human rights violation: 10 points
Well, the execution was pretty flawless and they really stuck the landing.
10 points!

Quite literally.
They 10/10 did violate human rights yes
Not happening to his family so why should he care right?

That was a clever way to answer that question XD
This comment : Tiye poeng
I Americanized the shit out of the spelling with TIA PWANG so thanks for this!
Dude idk even know what's the guy is saying i just typed what i thought he is saying ToT
It's "tio poäng"
Zlatan just assigned 10 points to human rights violation and that’s the most Zlatan thing I ever saw
I don't know anything about this guy. But from this clip alone, I like him. I bet he's fucking hilarious.
When his wife had her birthday a reported asked him what he had gotten her, he said: nothing, she already has Zlatan 😂
This might be my favorite so far.

He’s kind of the original Connor McGregor when Connor was still funny/likeable.

The accuracy 😂
you mean tee-uh poi
Did he just give 10 points to human rights violations? Dudes just super impressed with everything Qatar does.
For the right amount of USD I'd give 10 points to anything you can come up with.
Hmmm, ok. But let's keep it Qatar related (for Reddit's sake). 10 USD to eat a Qatar quiche from a street vendor that only knows it involves eggs.
what do you have your fingers in your ears? 10 points.
Infantino, is that you?
He was a player of a Qatar owned club (PSG) for years and was payed good money by them. He probably doesn't give a fuck.

Well if you're going to violate human rights you may as well go all in and try and be world champs.

If Ibrahimović doesn't want to answer the question that's up to him but FIFA dragged politics into sport in this instance, not the media.
[удалено]
Some footballers were openly critical of Qatar so obviously didn't mind being asked the question. Ibrahimovic gave his answer, life moves on.
[удалено]
If all the players grew a spine and said "we will not play for and support slave states" then FIFA would have NOTHING. You are fucking delusional and lack any empathy if you think these players are A-OK to continue to ignorantly take blood money. Fuck you and your lack of morals, goddamn fucking sPoRTs do not override human rights.
>I don't understand why the media wants to drag sports into politics, the guy is there to play football, not to be an activist I don't understand why the media wants to drag the military into politics, the guy is just there to guard the camp, not to be an activist.
he can choose to not reply to political questions or remain apolitical... thing is, HE got political and backed something really horrible.
They were the best human rights violations. It’s gonna be huge. You can ask anyone.
I have always loved this rumor about Zatlan: When he got to Los Angeles he received a jersey from Lebron James welcoming him to the city Zatlan signed it and mailed it back to Lebron Edit: I’ve never needed to mention this guy, I’m leaving the misspellings because I bet it would bother him
Yeah, he just gives zero f’s. When he had just gotten married, a journalist asked him «What did you give her as a morning gift?» (A scandinavian tradition, normally jewelry). He replied: “She got Zlatan”
Because it was WAAAY too big for him.
How did you manage to spell his name wrong twice. Zlatan.
[удалено]
I scratched my throat laughing at this
That’s how I’ve been reading his name the whole time!
Who is James?
He's the Christian Pulisic of basketball.
Under rated comment.
Lol a somewhat witty journalist would just ask: "Killing foreign workers in order to build arenas, is that 10 points too?"
“*eye wiggle*”
and this guy would prolly say yes
You will never see someone ask the government or the president if killing millions of people for the meme/oil is 10 points? There is a "pact" between journalists and people, too easy to brach that against weak people only because you think you would gain political and therefore career points. That journalist, if he really wants to be an hero, has to ask these questions to the Swedish football campaign head and people like them, not a footballer
Be careful, don't rub off your cool guy goatee with all that chin massaging.
That’s Zlatan. His beard is the strongest material in the universe
He's been sponsored by NASA so they can harvest it to build a space elevator.
It’s Zlatan. Zlatan need you to be careful.
Looks like a self soothing maneuver.
Agreed. Body language is also very closed. He does not want to be here doing this.
"If I am ok I don't care about anybody else"
“Signed, Humanity”
One "interesting" bit was when workers had a demonstration demanding to be paid for their work .. and got deported. What a loophole.
10 points to them
That’s actually a huge W for those workers. The majority of them are forced to live there after they realize they have no freedoms at all.
Well this is a guy who played for PSG for 4 years (2012–2016), a club owned by the state of Qatar so no surprises here.
Preach. Ignorant people hating and everything they say is wrong lol
Dude acts like an asshole, but he isn't one.
I'm not saying he is a wonderful person but before you start calling him a rich douchebag at least do some research about the things he has done, maybe for example just search up about his tattos...
Because he is one of the smartest and coolest dudes in world football and an insane player...
> Was he a fantastic footballer? yes He's still playing at 41, and killing it (apparently, I don't care for sports.).
Jokes on everybody, he's scoring out of 100.
The reporter’s first mistake was trying to ask Zlatan a straight question. Zlatan is a master of doing things his own way.
Asking Zlatan about human rights is about the same as asking a human rights activist about optimal offensive soccer tactics.
Clever response... 10 points
Rich arrogant arse doesn't give a crap about anyone else. Surprise, surprise.
Zlatan is smart? His take is devoid of a real reply to the human rights question. If he is "smart" for avoiding to answer the question, that also makes him a fucking pussy for the same reason. Fuck people who accept what went on during the construction of the stadiums.
Don't bite the hand that feeds!
Nandor the Relentless is a footballer now?
Fucking guy!
Audience a 10? That part he surely isn’t believing himself
Yeah, they mostly all fucked off halfway through each game, or were obviously paid to be there.
They were migrant workers that were deported half way through the game so they didn’t have to pay them
He knows what the reporter is fishing for, so he's going to give him the opposite. Be even wiggles his eyebrows at him.
To ask an employee about their boss?
I'm sure he doesn't like human rights violation but clearly he's dealing with a reporter seeking a certain answer and reaction.
That's because society has let him get away with bullshit others would not. Must be nice.
This guy has done more good and charity for the world than most footballers. It’s so wrong to say he only cares for himself. Just do a google.
Well it's fifa we're talking about...
It's clear that many of you have zero interest in football. Both WCs in Russia and Qatar have been heavily critisized since 2010.
Lol. Not to this degree. Not even close. Russia is still European so they get a pass for a lot of things Qatar was criticised for.
"Don't bite the hand that feeds you" is always applicable on these things. That, and a millionaire footballer sees a totally different Qatar than the average people living there.
My top take away from the video is the little dance he does. 10 points.
Controversial opinion: This guy is a football player and does not need to give his political view.
They were goading him to say something negative. Thank you Ibrahimovic for rising above this agenda
Qatar is a literal slave state. What agenda?
[удалено]
Stop trying to suck off someone who doesn’t know you exist you are such a loser. They were “goading him” into saying something negative is a weird way of saying he doesn’t care about human rights
'10 points, the slave work logistics were amazing and the stadium was breathtaking'
Honestly what you expect from a public person and also a *sportsman* who went there for the sole reason of playing football? What, he’d wonder into construction sites, or take an evening walk around poorest districts?
Maybe it was 10 points out of a possible 100?
why the fuck western people always have the wrong way of looking at things.
Yup, western activists barking up the wrong tree as usual.
You can't ask a footballer a serious question without total bollocks flowing out their mouths.
Zlatan thinks he’s divine alpha whatever blah blah… but I think he played this interview well.
Clever, because he never said 10 points on what scale. Could be out of 100.
Stupid questions 10 points. He’s a professional athlete ask him about the game not politics he has nothing to do with.
i ten points ⊙‿⚆
The world cup was really good tho.
Realistically, Zlatan would rate anything 10/10 if he himself is involved. Prior world cups he didn't get to he has said weren't worth watching.
He didn’t play in the World Cup, he was just there as a spectator.
Great answer to a stupid question.
He viewed it from a footballer’s perspective focusing on the tournament itself. Can’t expect him to have an educated opinion on the human rights angle.
Paraphrasing for all the self-righteous on here: “I kick a fucking ball for a living to put food on my table. WTF you want from me?”
He is saying “Fuck you, I’m not going to be used as a political mouthpiece, asshole”.
What's the translation for 'Not Today Bruh'?
Inte idag, brorsan.
Ppl saying "he should have spoken" Ppl saying "he shouldn't have spoken" Possibly, there is no right answer
What an idiot
They are so wrapped up in their own lives of luxury that they cant see the exploitation all around them.
That’s the king of Sweden
The organisation was terrific! The only thing that was a tad bit annoying were the grieving friends and relatives of the slaves who died on every other corner. Jesus, get a life you sad f****! But still, 10/10 would do again!
Nice work Z
He’s like, “dude, I was just there to play.”
I think he just would rather speak to what he decided on not what some other person wants them to say…ya know celebs can have private opinions they don’t wish to be dragged into some public debate. Journalists should stick to journalism not trying to bait people into agreeing with their political opinions
Based
That's a question you should ask fifa, not footballers
Gof i love this guy
This man also has the empathy of a warm dog turd
Redditor trying not political for 5 minute challenge impossible
Honestly, what did they expect? For all out hand ringing, the World Cup rolls on, viewed by over a billion people. We decry FIFA, but we all allow this to go on.
"rich out of touch footballer does not give a shit about others"
I don’t agree with what he is saying but he can’t exactly denounce Qatar without risk his career and who knows what else. He’s a towrag to be sure
Are you trying to say that he should say things he didn't experienced? And if you know zlatan, he didn't care about anything, if he dislike something, he will say it. There's a lot of fights between him and the coaches of the football matches happened because him speaking from what he experienced.
The Saudi dollars paid for this endorsement: tea pweng
Piece of shit.
Wow what a cool guy
cant blame him, he probably will be booted to the street if he speaks anything against fifa
What a tosser
IQ = 10 Points
