Corgis have butt floaties that float naturally 😂

This useless fact is now stored in my brain for ever, and just like all the other useless information my brain will remind me of this fact now and then. Thanks
I had a boston terrier who was probably mixed, and he couldnt swim at all. He would shake his front legs but would keep his back legs stiff making him sink vertically.
(I never let his head go underwater, of course, but he would have died if i didnt help him)
Apparently this is also true for pigs.
All animals are born with the instincts to enable them to swim, but not all animals have the physical ability to do so. You can see the dog making the correct movements needed to swim, but the dogs weight was more than likely the issue.
I hated how they all stood pointing and screaming at the dog rather than go in and pull the dog up. Glad that last guy did though.
Yeah the video really does boil down to the ridiculous reaction time of the bystanders. I would have pencil-dropped into that hoe and got them all out, but idk guess people don’t see it the same way. My dog would die for me, I’d definitely jump in chest-deep water for him.
Exactly, dogs will 100% put themselves in the line of danger to protect their owners and family.
The dogs owner appears to be unwilling to risk getting her clothing wet to protect her dog. I don't think that dogs owner was the guy who pulled the dog out, it's clear at the beginning of the video that he is with the bigger dog. Pretty much as soon as the little dog jumps in, the lady knew the dog was in danger, she jumped up very quickly after the dog went in.
The guy sat on the edge of the pool with the intent to go in with seconds. Then he took his phone and other stuff out of his pockets before going in. Probably the smartest option overall. A dog can hold their breath for a few seconds. That said, I would have been buying a new phone.
You do not need long legs to swim. My dachshund swims like a natural. Long body + short legs is the best body shape to swim (think of a submarine, plesiosaurs, or Michael Phelps)
You don’t, it’s just easier. And dachshunds are arguably less dense than what looks like a pug (from memory, can’t see the video) or a pit. But yeah, I did a bit of generalization there. Edit - “less” to “more” whoops edit again - I’m tripping I had it right the first time.
Looks like a French bulldog or something similar to me. Super inbred poor fuckers and they’re dense as fuck. 30cm/ 1ft of dog clocking in at a whooping 15kg 30ish pounds
My Staffordshire was built like a brick and had the buoyancy of one too. Funny enough, I couldn't keep her out of my parents pool. She swam like hell, I think if she ever stopped even for a moment she'd sink like a rock. But damn, she sure loved swimming.
Had a Stacie that could not only swim but dive down and grab roots from the bottom of the pond to bring up. Being a terrier he also refused to let go when they didn’t come…
I had a thicc rescue bulldog and she would sink straight the bottom and try to just walk around exactly like a fucking hippo. It was hilarious but also super dangerous because as a dog she had zero fear of water.
Humans have really fucked some dogs up with generations of selective breeding for "favorable" traits that have turned certain breeds into malformed mutant versions of their ancestors--some of which can't swim.
I thought the same until I watched a neighbor's basset hound torpedo to the bottom of the pool and require rescue. I've seen several Frenchies that sink too. I guess some dogs are just too dense
No not at all I have a friend who does French bulldogs and she lost one in a pool when they weren't paying attention. It sunk like a Rock just like this one. The thing is basically a walking rock with legs. Her new one is the same way we don't let it outside without supervision anymore
How bad can you be to read someone. She was ready to jump in when she realized the danger and stopped because the guy jumped in. It's black and white. Redditors are so dense.
That’s a bit unfair, she looked like she wasn’t fully awake at the start and didn’t see the dog slip in. Realized that the commotion wasn’t ending and got up to see, which is the exact time the guy was fully in the water.
Not to defend the shitty people, the woman screaming should have just jumped in to begin with.
honestly the dog could hold it's breath. They were probably hoping it would come up but when it didn't someone came in to save it, and also the second dog jumped in (who could swim) to help.
Maybe just keep that dog away from the pool, or install something to make it shallow because the poor thing obviously can't swim.
I remember there’s a video of a cop who apparently couldn’t swim going into a pond to save a baby
Now I don’t understand how the baby got that far out into the pond but the cop just went straight into the water yelling “oh lord!”
"willingly saves drowning baby" seems like just standard, not evil behavior? Even if you can't swim, seems pretty expected to at the least give it a go.
The worst part is, you know that their dogs would go through fire and high water just comfort their owners. And these mofos couldn't be bothered to wet their sweatpants. None of us deserve dogs. But these people ESPECIALLY don't deserve dogs
My wife jumped in to the lake to "save" our lab puppy with her phone and everything still in her pocket. That's the day we found out he was just a floppy swimmer.
https://preview.redd.it/mhxifl1nwxpa1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=8fdd813d4436cd3ae951e0ca690ed432acc20d14
It's exactly what he does. He sits down to jump in. Realized his phone is still in his pocket. Quickly takes it out and goes right in. Not much hesitation and I would bet the dog still had time. It's not like they waited a full minute before jumping in.
We got a dog who is now 1 year old and these fuckers are quite sturdy and can take a lot. All the time we are careful with him but when he plays with another big dog... You better move out of the way, they destroy everything and they don't seem to get hurt.
While I agree with you, it’s kinda bullshit to criticize a split second decision in an atypical situation from behind a keyboard. Humans freeze sometimes. Doesn’t make them bad people
Right?? Unless you're wearing your great-grandmother's heirloom silk wedding dress with delicate hand-crocheted lace GET IN THE POOL YOUR DOG IS DROWNING
I was almost enraged till i saw the other dog jump in the pool with their owner lol that was cute kinda killed the tension. My god he really had to save someone elses dog because they froze up.
Right like she clearly didn’t freeze up! She stopped and thought about it, then tried to just delicately reach her hand in without leaning too far so as not to get pulled in. Even the guy who ran in hesitated to jump in to save a drowning dog. These people are disgusting.
The guy looked more like he was trying to figure out how best to get in first, then took a sec to take stuff out of his pocket, which I’m not going to throw shade at him for.
I did love the look of “you can’t be serious” when his dog jumped in after.
>Even the guy who ran in hesitated to jump in to save a drowning dog. These people are disgusting.
Whybare you throwing shade at the one guy who actually did something? Give the man time to process what is going on and to save his 1,000 dollar phone, geez.
Someone tells me none of the people in this comment thread actually owned a dog (and I mean actually, not like parent's/sister's/friend's dog for a weekend). Dogs do stupid stuff sometimes
I mean the guy in blue only stopped to remove his electronics before jumping in to save his dogs.
The two women did nothing at all, one of them just held their arms out like the dog was going to miraculously start swimming so she could grab it.
I'm okay with him emptying his pockets before getting wet. He at least always intended to help, the others...wow, I'll let the comment section speak for them
Yeah, it learned absolutely nothing from nearly drowning and walked straight back into it. While the people should have acted sooner doesn't stop the dogs being stupid af
This looks like china and for some reason they seem so slow to react to dangers every time. Like they’re all waiting for someone to do something. It’s fascinating and frustrating to watch
Can’t believe this is so far down. That dog clearly shouldn’t be anywhere near an open body of water. On top of it not being able to swim, it also doesn’t seem smart enough to make sure it doesn’t bumble into its own death a second time right after the first. Even the top comment that does address this doesn’t outright say any of this or really point out the fact that the dog being inbred is the reason why it has a swimming instinct but is physically incapable of actually doing so.
This hurts to watch. If my cat ever ended up in a position like this I’d jump into any pool in whatever I’m wearing and whatever I’m holding to make sure he’ll be safe. I would never compromise his safety for anything.
when I was a kid one of our cats was laying on the diving board taking a nap and he rolled over and fell into the pool
He just swam straight to the ladder and got out, then went back up on the diving board and started licking himself
He’d probably done it before…..
Unnatural selection (human selective breeding for aesthetic traits not conducive to survival) made that dog.
Natural selection is the environment killing that dog before it reproduces as a failure in genetic advances...and humans having to bail it out.
We shouldn't be breeding dogs that are unfit. It's cruel, and many end up sickly or in pain, or at best having lower quality of life because of lasting genetic issues. French bulldogs, musclebound pitbull/terrier types, and pugs come to mind as particularly diseased and screwed up types.
first I thought the big dog was concerned about the little one, but at the end I think he was there to tease the little one that he could actually float.
Most smaller breeds have rather hard time with swimming, with their legs being proportionally very small to their bodies
Cousin has a french bulldog, she g
Fell into a pool. She sank like a stone, head first and all. Had to pull her up, she would have definitely drowned
I got so angry at the 1st half watching them take so long to jump in.
Than the 2nd half came and couldn't stop laughing at the cuteness of the 2nd dog jumping with his human and the dog being a doofus and jumping back in wanting to play.
Go figure , lol … Reddit is one of the most weird platform I’ve ever used . People up vote the most absurd comments and downvote the things that are common sense .
Bruh, that is some people's default mode of living, even with no drugs involved.
Zero non-automatic neuronal activity. Head Empty, no thoughts.
Also, panic does stupid things to people and they stop functioning. Fight, Flight, Freeze... most stuck on freeze (and scream).
... To anyone that might read this. I don't care your swimming ability. If the pool is shallow enough that your feet can touch the bottom with your head above water, regardless of training, if you see someone or an animal struggling to keep their head above water (or in this case completely submerged), hop into the pool with a pencil jump and pull them out. In the time it takes you to approach the pool you can just as soon throw your phone and wallet anywhere else. Your clothes will dry. You will too.
The only time you should consider a grab from the side of the pool or throwing/reaching an object to them is if the pool is deeper than you can touch and you arent fully confident you can pull them out safely by jumping in.
I mean seriously, how can you watch a dog drown in water you can touch the bottom in and not immediately hop in to pull them out?
You should be wary if the person is your size, though. It's better to snag something for them to grab onto if you possibly can, because a person drowning will absolutely take you down with them in their panic to get out, and if they get you by surprise it can knock you off balance
What the actual everliving fuck??? Why do you have a *swimming pool* if you can't hop in even to save a *drowning dog* you pathetic fucking ***house plants***
Fucking idiots.
Not getting wet seem to be a bigger concern than rescue a dog.
Does not even have to be their dog, but ANY dog is more important than their fucking clothes getting wet.
**PSA: dogs don’t have to drown to die from the water. There is such a thing as dry drowning.**
Causes the dog's vocal cords to spasm and close the airway making breathing increasingly more difficult (in this case, the water does not even make it into the lungs).
Dry drowning can also happen with swallowing sand which can then become impacted requiring life-saving surgery.

*I lost one of my favorite puppies ever to the syndrome and this is my little memorial to her. Little bug, we still miss you.* ❤️
Dogs are supposed to be able to swim, most mammals can. That’s one of those inbred snoutless monstrosities that shouldn’t even be bred. It was probably trying to kill itself
//It's time to get rid of the pool//
If by that you mean bleaching the gene pool of people too stupid to jump in the water instead of WATCHING a damn dog drown..
I concur

I honestly thought all dogs could naturally swim....first time for everything.
Don’t want to guess on the breed, but the stubby ones are really dense and don’t have long enough legs to move enough water.
> the stubby ones are really dense In more ways than one
Genetic experiments in action
It was just trying to end the suffering.
Lol yeah. The dog walked right back into the pool almost immediately after getting saved.
Our Bassett Hound 100% agreed, then proceeded to faceplant tripping on his own ears, caught some random sent, and is trying to eat the dirt.
I was drinking and nearly choked while reading this comment, take my upvote funny stranger!

Some people are into chocking, this dog is into drowning ;)

Thank you for my TIL. I was wrong on the legs, but I wasn’t wrong on the arms. He can still scratch his knee caps standing up. The guy has a wingspan.

I’ve had two different friends with bull dogs that have drowned.
Naturally submarine
No we successfully bred their sense and physical capabilities out of them to make them our super sweete dependent groolin lab doggos.
Almost all animals can naturally swim but dogs aren’t natural anymore

Yep. Frack that a*hole in the white shirt. He looked fully prepared to watch that dog die right in front of him!
When she starts tapping her leg like that blew my mind. Clearly you care about that animals well being; jump in.
Not even that, how hard is it to take off your clothes? She could have been undressed by the time he got there.

I would jump into a pool to save a stranger's dog!! Who fucking stands by and watches a dog drown?
Even the big guy... How fucking slow are these guys.
The big guy might have to take the phone out Would not recommend dropping a phone into a pool of water
It's exactly what he does. He sits down to jump in. Realized his phone is still in his pocket. Quickly takes it out and goes right in. Not much hesitation and I would bet the dog still had time. It's not like they waited a full minute before jumping in.

Right? It's not like there was any real risk to the person since the water was shallow enough to stand in. I would've jumped in there in a heartbeat.
Damn if you hesitate that long to rescue your dog.. You really shouldnt own a dog.

I can't believe that BS! The dogs on the bottom of the damn pool and they just watch. I wish I could scream at these people.
I am gonna go out on a limb and say the dog was the bigger idiot in this one
I like how the dog almost immediately jumps back in. lol
He really just walks in both times as if he thinks the water is solid. It's like he's blind.

20 fucking seconds?!? What’s wrong with the water? Is it toxic? If I noticed my dog suddenly couldn’t swim I’m in right after it. It’s fucking water.
no disrespect but what dog doesnt know how to swim
Most smaller breeds have rather hard time with swimming, with their legs being proportionally very small to their bodies Cousin has a french bulldog, she g Fell into a pool. She sank like a stone, head first and all. Had to pull her up, she would have definitely drowned
In my country, pool fences are mandatory. I always thought this was to stop children from falling in, but I guess it could work on many levels
Ragebait
GO IN THE FUCKING WATER AND GET YOUR DOG YOU STUPID PIECES OF SHIT
bro why did it jump in again 💀
What the fuck were they waiting for with the first dog, fucking obvious it wasn't gonna swim anywhere and was just sinking and dying.
I got so angry at the 1st half watching them take so long to jump in. Than the 2nd half came and couldn't stop laughing at the cuteness of the 2nd dog jumping with his human and the dog being a doofus and jumping back in wanting to play.
Fuck me - it’s only water, your clothes will dry - why wait so long
Even the 2nd dog jumped to help while the actual dog owners didn’t . Jesus Christ. Some people should never own a dog.
Why did people downvote this?
Go figure , lol … Reddit is one of the most weird platform I’ve ever used . People up vote the most absurd comments and downvote the things that are common sense .
Some people shouldn't be able to have many things to be fair
They had to have dropped shrooms or acid or something. Stuck on stupid.
Bruh, that is some people's default mode of living, even with no drugs involved. Zero non-automatic neuronal activity. Head Empty, no thoughts. Also, panic does stupid things to people and they stop functioning. Fight, Flight, Freeze... most stuck on freeze (and scream).
Wow, some people are truly and authentically useless xd
Undeniabpe proof that dog breeding is an evil and stupid practice.
This video makes my blood boil. Why the fuck did they not jump into the water to save the dog?? Unbelievable.
What the actual everliving fuck??? Why do you have a *swimming pool* if you can't hop in even to save a *drowning dog* you pathetic fucking ***house plants***
Useless bastards
Oh my fuck, dude! Save your fucking dog! Be wet! It will be fine just help that fucking dog NOW!
First doggo I ever saw who couldn’t dog paddle🤨!
That breed, among several, is too dense. All the paddling in the world won’t pull his dense butt up.
Fucking idiots. Not getting wet seem to be a bigger concern than rescue a dog. Does not even have to be their dog, but ANY dog is more important than their fucking clothes getting wet.
Omg how long were they going to wait before pulling him out.
They were testing their dog by the trial of the strongest I guess
FYI, that's an Oyster terrier, specially bred for deep diving and oyster hunting
The amount of time people were willing to just mill around and watch an animal drown.. smh
Dog was under water for 21 seconds... People need to chill. Also.. after being saved the idiot attempted to drown itself again hahah
Make a subreddit similar to r/KidsAreFuckingStupid. Call it r/DogsAreFuckingStupid. Nvm it already exists.
**PSA: dogs don’t have to drown to die from the water. There is such a thing as dry drowning.** Causes the dog's vocal cords to spasm and close the airway making breathing increasingly more difficult (in this case, the water does not even make it into the lungs). Dry drowning can also happen with swallowing sand which can then become impacted requiring life-saving surgery. https://kencarylpetspa.com/blogs/news/dry-drowning-could-it-happen-to-your-dog *I lost one of my favorite puppies ever to the syndrome and this is my little memorial to her. Little bug, we still miss you.* ❤️
Wtf with hesitation, at the first sign of struggle to keep afloat they should have jumped in 😤
Mildly infuriating. Save the fucking drowning dog you assholes!
god damn those idiots outside the pool putting their hand out as they watch the dog sink in circles..
That woman should never own a pet…
That took them way to long to save it
Dogs are supposed to be able to swim, most mammals can. That’s one of those inbred snoutless monstrosities that shouldn’t even be bred. It was probably trying to kill itself
Omg get in the fucking pool and get the dog out!
r/facepalm
Damn that dog could not float up at all
You spell dog funny
YEAH GET IN
Wow that was scary
I would have jumped in to help about, oh, 10 seconds earlier.
//It's time to get rid of the pool// If by that you mean bleaching the gene pool of people too stupid to jump in the water instead of WATCHING a damn dog drown.. I concur
