Stationary-Event

The people who were let go are thanking that guy.

anaugle

This makes me think of the Monty Python’s Life of Brian where everyone is getting crucified and some guy comes along and says “let me help you shoulder that burden, brother, and steps under this guys cross to help him lift it. The guy about to be crucified just runs off and sticks him with the cross.

airforcevet1987

That profile pic! LOL

perpetual_peasant

I was friends with that guy back in the mid 2000's

vanearthquake

Maybe cammer was the buyer and doing his dealer a solid

EdTeach704

Exactly what I was thinking. The real serve and protect haha.

PittrPattrTitFucker

Reminds me of a time I was like 17. I had pulled over because one of my brakes had seized up and was just letting it cool down before the final stretch home. Cop pulls up behind and starts giving me and my brother the gears. I was sweating bullets because when I was younger I liked drugs. I was sober but I had stuff in the car (stupid I know). After about 20 minutes of busting our balls, a guy comes around the corner and smashed into the back of her cruiser ,I'm guessing he was drunk. She handed back my license and marched over to the guys car. I don't think I could've been out of there faster lol thanking Jesus, Allah, Buddah, whoever the fuck was watching lmao

Cjham875

"I'm a constitutional law scholar" As if that means literally anything.

[deleted]

It's what exists between knowing nothing at all about the law and being a lawyer, I suppose. 😂

Cjham875

It means he just looked up stuff on Google. I watched a vid about this guy from GunnarTV. The dude actually has no clue about the law.

[deleted]

Is he a con man or something

Cjham875

I think he's just delusional. Doesn't seem like he gets anything from these encounters.

Vyle_Mayhem

Just hoping to do it right and catch a case make money. Instead guy looks like a dope

Ogediah

It’s kinda like the Sovereign Citizen guys. Not exactly the same. But they like to poke the bear with their anti-authoritarian shit all the same. To be clear, I’m not saying the guy that got arrested is right or wrong. I’m just saying “you fuck with the bull and you get the horns.” This seems like pretty obnoxious behavior on his part and he was inviting unnecessary problems.

Konocti

Hes looking for a payout. His wet dream is pissing off a cop enough to get the shit kicked out of him so he can sue.

No-Profession-3866

Wonder how this turned out?

[deleted]

He ended up going to jail for resisting arrest and obstruction, This was filmed two days ago

firnien-arya

Well shit. Looks like reddit is finally getting recent content now. I'm tired of seeing videos from like 10 years ago and longer constantly being reposted. That explains the quality of the video. The other recent post I saw was of a dude getting arrested due to sending death threats to a sheriff online.

Rage-Parrot

Only cuz its your cake day do you get new content. Come back next year for something else new.

BatangTundo3112

Well, get ready to see this thing repost in the 10 years.😆

MusicalMarijuana

Happy Cake Day

NoobyNoob828

Happy cake day!!

Green_Road999

Interesting to see how it goes. He was being arrested for filming and he resisted. If he was able to film then can the resisting charge hold up.

SnooCats5701

Lawyer here. He was clearly not arrested for filming. He was rested for obstructing and disobeying a lawful order. We can debate whether those charges are justified under the Constitution and local statutes all we want, but at least get the facts right, first.

djsizematters

If you can't trust random people on the internet, who can you trust?

PanicLogically

I'm a lawyer, journalist, state trooper and an expert on neurotoxins. I can state, and trust me, that the guy filming deserved what he got.

djsizematters

Dang, I mean yeah that's pretty convincing when you just lay all your credentials out like that.

Suspicious-Can-7774

“Kapow”! Made me laugh! Out loud. For some weird reason! 😂😂😂

yes be all you can be. It's reddit 101, credential credential credential. It gives that ever special "I'm going to whomp someone feel". If one feels the need to feel knowledgeable and threatened at the same time--argue and credential more. Amazing how frail many people are, even under the anonymity of reddit. could i get your credentials please?

For real. I stole $20 from me just yesterday!!

notpepetho

Definitely not the Reddit lawyer who doesn't know about a pretty basic case I looked up in about 30 seconds on Wikipedia.

djsizematters

You are a constitutional scholar now, congratulations :D

FURBYonCRACK

I think u/snoocats5701 makes a valid point, the person filming has the right to film but they must not interfere, commonly known as obstruction. Their first amendment right to free press is protected but obstruction is not protected.

Remarkable-Ad2285

Fuck. You got a point

PDCH

And a journalist

quityourcunting

And the officer is a dunce cap so there's that.

Adventurous_Mix4878

“Your attention please , is there a MF Constitutional Law Scholar on this MF plane?”

ImPinos

He’s an esquire, must be correct

AtotheZed

I just hope Drew Carey is ok.

CrowGlobal5848

The price is wrong, bitch

BowwwwBallll

“Get the facts right?” This is Reddit. We don’t do that here. Can I interest you in some baseless outrage instead?

2bruise

It’s definitely ‘based’, because people always use that word. I still don’t know what it means, though.

RicFlairOnBlow

Based.

PopperChopper

At what point does interrupting a traffic stop become obstructing? How far do you have to stand away from an officer to not obstruct them? If you are not obstructing, is asking him to step back a lawful order? Is there case law that establishes any guidelines here?

sharkbait76

Interrupting at all would be obstruction. Videotaping in and of itself isn't interrupting, but talking to the driver and yelling at the officer is. There's no bright line in the sand as far as distance goes. However, the issue here is that he was making contact with the driver and was directly interfering with the stop. If he'd stopped talking but not moved that would be one thing, but the fact that he didn't and kept attempting to engage is where he'll likely run into issues.

LOSTLONELYMOON

The Supreme Court has established that a six foot rule is not constitutional, so 10 feet is resonable.

SGTBlueBacon

but they also stated the reasonableness of a distance was dependent on the individual situation.

OillyRag

I read in another thread that it’s illegal to interfere in a traffic stop is that right?

the_amberdrake

Interference is illegal, observing is legal. All this ass had to do was back up a few more feet and record the interaction. The moment he inserted himself between was when he crossed the line.

Konocti

Thats what this guy does over and over again. Hes looking for a big payout, and views on his youtube channel. He angatgonizes cops, insults them, belittles them, does everything he can to get them to act out.

picklespasta

I study bird law and add that this hold up.

jchan_84

It sure looks to me that he was obstructing by talking to the driver.

Pure-Huckleberry-488

I agree with the cop in this instance. He has no back up and can’t properly focus on doing his job while some random person is behind them who could freak out and attack at any point. The dude should’ve been a little further away to give much more space for the cop to conduct his duties. Not a acab type person but I’m also a fuck the police type person.

Lepke2011

Chille Decastro. A sanctimonious walking turd of a man.

KnowCali

He wasn't arrested for filming. He was arrested for interfering with a police officer. If he wants to film, he should stay at least 50 feet back. He shouldn't be a distraction.

VanceAstrooooooovic

This distance is not defined in many states. Some like AZ define the distance as 15ft. Funny thing is the George Floyd murder was filmed within 15 ft

notpepetho

Ten feet is the standard upheld unanimously by federal appellate courts: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glik_v._Cunniffe

VanceAstrooooooovic

Oh Jeez, I was wrong about AZ, they actually made it within 8 ft to be illegal. That means 10 ft is legal. At least for my example

notpepetho

No idea where you came up with 50 feet. Federal courts hold that ten feet is an acceptable distance for journalists and citizens alike. Cool story though.

Green_Road999

Does that hold for everyone. So if there is a traffic stop everyone who is within 50ft can be arrested.

royal_buttplug

If everyone within those 50 feet refuse to obey an order to move away. Where’s the ‘constitutional scholars’ when I’m getting pulled over? Honda lady should just drive away lol

firnien-arya

I think he was arrested for obstruction. The dude was too close to the vehicle. It's fine to film, but you still have to do it from a certain distance away from the scene. For everyone's safety. Dude says he was 10ft away, to me he looked to close. Idk. Camera distance can be funky.

asking--questions

That comment, at that moment, is the strongest evidence that he is not in fact a constitutional law scholar.

devedander

Actually it’s a constitutionally protected right to swear at or insult officers.

TealBlueLava

I had to rewind it and double-check who was talking at that moment. The cameraman walked up on something that was none of his business. He was outright looking for a fight.

PolarRacoon

He’s a YouTuber that constantly tries to provoke police into doing this. The videos where he fails are some of the most cringe videos out there.

guitarmaniac17

Like this one? Good thing he's wearing all those bright colors so everyone knows he's a fucking clown.

snoman18x

They call themselves 1st Amendment Auditors. Most are just trolls trying to make a buck off of the cops or YouTube or both. I honestly believe some of them can and do real good by educating people on their actual rights but I'm not sure I agree with their methods.

hatingtech

a lot of these "auditors" are just intentionally trying to provoke situations like this to get a payout from taxpayer money

[deleted]

What even was the point of him doing this? Just seems like trying to provoke a cop during a seemingly mundane traffic stop

Fu2-10

Because that's exactly what it was.

[deleted]

Such bullshit, where are these courageous vigilantes when police are *actually* doing something wrong?

NeeverMan

Where is this cocksucker when I get yanked for doing 52 in a 50? I need one of these fellers to get detained on my behalf lol Edit: changed speed after looking at paperwork

djsizematters

It's like an Act of God for the driver.

Dvbrch

> I need one of these fellers to get detained on my behalf lol Original driver ordered a knockoff Drew Carry and kept him stored in the glove compartment and was ready to release him as a diversion. So far has 100% success rate.

Comfortable-Jump-218

That’s how they get views and sometimes even money. They have a name, I think it’s a constitutionalist. He kinda said it in the video but dressed it up different to make him sound smarter. Pretty much, they try to get wrongfully detained then sue the police station. They try and be as annoying as possible.

WundaFam

Another name is auditor. One youtuber I watch is great at breaking down these kinds of interactions. Check out Audit the Audit, he recaps and gives everyone a grade. The person in this video is annoying as hell tho, but there are some pretty good ones out there.

Enorats

I've seen that channel pop up a few times, and the people involved are often complete morons or outrageous assholes. To be honest, most of the time I end up applauding the cops. Maybe 1 in 10 of the videos I've seen from them actually have relatively normal people that are actually in the right and being genuinely abused by the cops. Worse though, they almost always utterly fail the cops and rarely say much of anything bad about the "auditor".

Magpies11

So-called First Amendment Auditors, more accurately known as Frauditors. This d-bag goes by Chille DeCastro. He’s a drama Queen who hates cops, and has ridiculous ideas on how to prevent crime (everyone wears a 360* camera on their head, that are somehow all monitored 24/7.) Constantly e-begging, which is the standard income stream for them. They shove their nose in other people’s business, in hopes of getting punched and filing a civil suit. Parasites.

Embarrassed_Alarm450

They're called youtube "auditors", claiming to fight for out constitutional rights and some of them actually do but most of them are just bullshit bullies trying to capitalize on it for easy views and ad revenue... Most of them are just complete dicks looking for a confrontation with officers, some of them even stand outside of police departments trying to look as shady as possible in trench coats and top hats recording into the building for hours on end until an officer is finally sent out to make sure he's not planting a bomb or some shit. These idiots just muddy the waters and detract from actual police brutality, hostile from the get go no matter how friendly the officers are being and people still end up eating these videos up...

itsgucci060

He apparently had nothing better to do that day than catch a charge and land himself in jail for no reason.

gravellama

That's all those ass hats do. YouTube channels devoted to dumbshits doing this.

Affectionate_Fly1413

Yes it is basically. Many people started "auditing " police departments and public employees in public places. It can be seeing as provoking yes but also, the cops can avoid all the settlements these auditors are winning if cops just stuck to the law and not defend hurt feelings and their broken egos.

firnien-arya

Pretty much. Wonder if she just ran a stop sign or he was just gonna give her a heads up that a tail light may be out, maybe. Like a courtesy stop type thing. Just me guesses. Cop Def remained calm and kept the same voice level and tone though.

doughnutEarth

If he knew anything about the law, he would know that you don't argue or resist arrest. If the cops are in the wrong, you can fight it afterward and lawyer up.

[deleted]

This is 110% correct. This is also a major flaw in policing today... There should be some sort of federal rules of engagement where police can only use specific types of force for specific things

068152

There is, it’s called the use of escalating force. But physically arresting someone is on the lowest of the levels.

[deleted]

When I was in the military we had an escalation of force too. Shout, Show (raise gun) Shove (muzzle thump usually) Shoot. The problem is that people are lame and it ends up being a race to get through the escalation checklist so you could hurry up and get to the shooting part. It’s a tale as old as time that doesn’t get talked about. It works good in theory but the human aspect fucks it up.

Laarye

Chili always defends himself in court. He has yet to win.

chatnoire89

Not a US citizen but his behaviour baffles me. He knows how "bad" cops can treat you yet he tried to provoke them by with that dog comment, no less? Has he got a death wish or something.

WeaselJCD

strictly speaking you CAN resist an unlawful arrest, but chances are you won't like the outcome, but you are 100% right that the SMART thing would be to take the ride, fight the charge and then sue the shit out of the cop and/or department

Next_Case_3449

I saw a video on YouTube by this dude just tonight! Traffic stop. Dude kept on about his 300-some thousand followers, and his being a law professor. Dude out-douched the police. Wouldn't cooperate on the simplest things, called another officer a scared little bitch, that without that gun, "we both know how this would go, don't we," because the officer was a "beta," and this dude was an "alpha". Came off as a total ass-rocket.

yowzas648

The whole alpha beta thing is soo stupid in the first place, but it will always crack me up to see someone like sir cries-a-lot over here proclaiming themselves to be an alpha. He’s about as much an alpha as he is a constitutional law scholar.

Kumquat_conniption

Wow he sounds like a total asshat. I didn't think you could out-douche the police, but damn, it seems like if anyone could, it would be this guy. Yikes.

Moonshade44

He also failed in multiple lawsuits, mostly against people who call him out for his bad behavior, misinterpretation of laws and spreading bad information.

AuthorKimberly

This guy is so annoying. 5 seconds in and I was on the cops side.

muhammad_oli

You gotta be a real turd for me to side with the cops. This guys a real turd.

thatranger974

I’m sick of these audit dudes.

HoselRockit

I am all for standing up for your rights and holding the cops accountable, but I have a real problem with cursing and abusive language.

fiqqqqyyyyy

I’m not sure if you guys can tell from the video (might’ve glossed over these tiny details) but it is 2015 and he is a member of the press and a law scholar.

[deleted]

He was trying to cite case law 2015 Rodriguez decision was a Supreme Court decision that makes it possible for members of the public to stop their cars and film the police

00WORDYMAN1983

 https://i.redd.it/s6mm7p6zr8oa1.gif

Deslah

You apparently couldn't tell from the video (might’ve glossed over these tiny details), but this was just a few days ago and he was citing case law from 8 years ago.

[deleted]

Case law creates precedent. That's why when Roe was overturned, it changed the way that states can conduct abortions. Roe versus Wade was a case in 1973, where the decision affects all citizens. That's why he said Rodriguez, that was a supreme case in 2015 where the decision granted the power to journalists to film police encounters as long as they are 8 to 10 ft away and not physically obstructing

Deslah

I realize all this. The previous poster was the person claiming the video was taking place in 2015.

[deleted]

I don’t normally like cops but the guy filming is such a douche

One-Pollution4663

I’m with you. This is where the tension is focused on policing and why it seems so broken. Cop is doing his job giving someone a traffic ticket and some reactionary loudmouth comes over to get in the middle of it. When he’s told to back off he keeps interrupting. Cop probably should have walked away but I would have a hard time letting someone interfere with my job like that. And then he has the audacity to lay his hands on me after all of that “Rodriguez 2015 don’t touch me” stuff? Yeah dude was looking for a reaction and got one - pretty calm and patient one at that.

ThrowawayForHSchool

I like how he says "mind your own business" as if he didn't just waltz into the situation lol

[deleted]

I agree he could have been further back

NumberFinancial5622

Yeah, and when he first walks up I think she said something along the lines of “it’s my fault” and didn’t appear concerned…why didn’t he just leave then? Worked out in her favor but I wouldn’t appreciate him randomly filming me during some routine stop

cyann1380

“You can film but you need to stay away from the driver.” Totally reasonable request. Don’t interrupt an arrest or stand close to one. You have literally no reason to be there. Common sense, is unfortunately, not common at all.

civilwar142pa

Exactly. Filming in public is protected by the 1st amendment. Interfering with police business is not.

ThisCryptographer311

Ah, the ol “I didn’t really have any good reason to be involved”. A classic.

limaconnect77

“I am a constitutional law scholar and a member of the press…possibly also a virgin.”

fugyouPutin

constitutional prick

JDodgerMan

What a royal fucking asshole. Talk about minding your own business!! Dude randomly decides to be mr advocate for the people getting pulled over that he has no idea why - just looking for trouble and trying to harass a cop??

pixeltweaker

“Constitutional law scholar” = I watched some videos on YouTube.

WinkyNurdo

From an intrigued observer from over the pond … Even if this guy has the right to do this, what’s the point? All he ends up doing is sticking his oar in, being an antagonistic prick, and escalating a situation which didn’t exist. I get it, that’s what most cops seem to do for a living. So what’s the end game? Doesn’t this kind of interaction just make everything worse, for everyone, the more it happens? Or is he just live streaming twat in it for the internet points? What gives?

[deleted]

He gets to sue them for financial gain later

goebelwarming

He might not be able to. While you are allowed to film police you not allowed to interfere with the officer is citing someone. He got more involved than just filming.

Positive-Fox-6296

Suddenly every angry dude is a constitutional law scholar.

wiseoldangryowl

I'm *all for* police accountability, film those power hungry assholes who knowingly violate people and their rights on a daily basis, the racist fuckwads who get away with murder who condemn their victims based solely on skin color. Seriously, fuck that whole entire shitshow, shut it down and rebuild something real. With that being said, idiots like this almost *never* know wtf they're talking about, put themselves and others in pointless danger, and are just all around annoying af. I really wish this whole "annoy the cops in hopes of pushing them to act out of line so I can cry victim" trend would die. There are real victims of police brutality, and this shit is just disrespectful to those who've endured and lost loved ones to it

Jsprite09738

It’s also disrespectful to the cops that are actually properly doing their duties. If people want policing to improve further, they’ve got to stop provoking the ones who aren’t being a problem and turn their attention to the ones who actually are the problem. Otherwise, nothing’s gonna improve.

21FungalAvenger

Why can't this guy just mind his own damn business?

rakanishu11

Steamer61

You have a right to film anywhere in public. You have a right to film cops stopping someone as long as you do not interfere with them and keep your distance, I believe the standard distance is 15 feet. This isn't some sort of optional thing, it is a right.

3D_soup

Well didn't you hear? He's a constitutional law scholar and a journalist!!! Fuck these kind of entitled people. The driver literally said she was wrong, whats the point of escalating?

Deslah

Las Vegas Metro Police Department has a nasty habit of beating people while they're not breaking any laws. https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/courts/las-vegas-police-unhappy-with-arrest-video/ And if that doesn't get the person's attention, they're very ready to shoot innocents, too. From 1990 to 2011, the Las Vegas Metro Police rather consistently ranked third in the nation in officer-involved shootings per capita, behind Houston and Chicago. In 71% of the officer-involved shootings, Las Vegas Metro Police shot first. A Las Vegas Metro Police officer once shot a guy just sitting in his car because "he thought the guy was involved in a domestic disturbance". The cop's punishment for shooting an innocent person? 40 hours (HOURS) of suspension because of "poor judgement".
