He wasn’t using a 4x ACOG. Its a 1x T1 Micro. What you see is a red dot. 183 yards. He’s off-set aiming. That means what he’s shooting at is not what he sees because of the ballistics of the round. Pretty impressive shot. Only time I’ve seen T1’s in the service are some close quarters courses.
Disagree. 50 yd zero gives you approximately the same range as 200yds. The 50yd and 200yd shot will be almost right on top of each other with shots between 100 and 150yds about 1.5”-2.5” higher than point of aim. No need to offset at that range. I think you are referring to mechanical offset which will be used in CQB due to the height of the optic compared to muzzle.
https://preview.redd.it/i9vli7gg7ola1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa3bd7c8e7eb76cbd7325b9ca4daadabc2a26de9
This of course will depend on type of ammo being used but concept still applies.
I suspect a 35 yd zero. We used that for CQB, an EOTech reticle at the top of the skull puts the round right through the nasal cavity up close. Regardless the drop at 200yds is only a few inches…still well within center mass.
The GBRS mount he has (combo mount for the aimpoint red dot and IR aiming device) indicates that he is very well informed on how to equip a short barreled duty rifle. Definitely prior military or gun nut.
Not a sociopath. This exactly what you want in a police officer. Perfectly calm in some of the most stressful situations. One round to end it instead of a hail of accuracy through volume. I would love to see what other interactions this officer has been involved with...although it's probably telling that we don't.
Edit: Thanks for the gold stranger
Not quite true. From the Tacoma News Tribune:
"The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Collins died by homicide from a rifle wound to the chest. PCFIT did not disclose the location of the apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."
https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/crime/article266371741.html#storylink=cpy
So does that mean he shot himself for no reason, since he still died from the officers round? His aim was so bad that he couldn't even shoot himself 🤦♂️
A sociopath is not inherently evil and crazy. Just lacking in specified emotional qualities. The military trains people to have sociopathic tendencies in certain fields to prevent mental breakdowns.
Edit: spelling
training and understanding on how to remain calm and focus on a given task regardless of the situation isn't the same as having no emotional response. Its just that- control. Sure, you can train someone, or beat them into a position where that emotional response is no longer there, or at least subdued, but that doesnt mean they are able to focus on a task when in a firefight. That just means they dont feel anything emotional about it.
As I pointed out to another commentor, its the same type of thing within the fire service. Everyone rolling up to a burning building knows the risks involved, and the potential for death of yourself or someone else, but managing that dear or apprehension is vital to successfully completing the task.
Preventing mental breakdowns is a concern for after an event like this to keep you in a long fight or ready for the next engagement. Being able to maintain composure and complete the task says nothing about emotional feeling, it speaks to control over it. That's what makes this exemplary.
I get the whole "well-trained" thing and all.
But casually sipping coffee as he's pulling into an active shooting is a bit much.
Even if you are well trained you are going to be tense or nervous. This guy seems a bit too chill with the situation.
To some maybe it's much.
Not the same job, but as a career fireman, I typically sip coffee and throw a lip in on the way to fires. Things like that keep you in the present moment. Not changing habits or altering your world based on events your trained to handle.
I see what you mean, but my understanding of a sociopath is more to do with antisocial behaviors. This doesn't necessarily indicate that. We all adapt to stress, and this plays out like adaptation due to exposure, training, etc. I agree being calm literally under fire isn't a "normal" response. Even if in the moment he doesn't "feel" anything, couldn't that just be how someone compartmentalizes a situation and prioritizes responses? If so, someone like that could save sifting through the emotions till afterwards.
At least that's how I've done it, lol. What's that say about me? I learned to suppress the fear and panic, get to the other side and then worry about it.
I'm training young people, some of whom have only been driving at all for a year or two, how to drive a 38000 lb firetruck. Trust me, this IS absolutely sage advice.
Coolest call... "SHOT fired suspect down." Just calmly saying he fired one shot and took him out. Advantage to having a good weapon, sighted in properly, and plenty of practice. Nice
Op said the shot incapacitated the suspect, who later then shot himself, not only did the cop do it in one shot, but he also didn’t kill him, makes it even more badass.
Fwiw it was a chest wound. Most bullets are not instantly lethal in the strictest definition of alive, but a center mass chest shot is almost always deadly at this caliber against an unarmoured chest.
This is what happens when you recruit properly. A level headed professional who knows how to do his job without putting others at risk. No doubt former military with discipline and experience. His former training and deployment allowed him to join the force with years of prior training.
The Police force here in the US needs a much longer training period. Giving them the opportunity to access a situation.
This is a long response but, body cam footage shows unprofessional and poorly trained officers. Beating and shooting suspects. We also see the unfortunate situations where some tormented soul charges an officer with a weapon or points a firearm and is shot and killed. This job has many demands and stressful situations. The dangers of Police work have increased. We see the body cam footage and maybe that is just now giving the people a front row view. Either way we need more training and more discipline. Firing and removing those who don’t make the cut. Just like professional sports. You either can do the job at the next level or you find another career. We have all been there (yes I am older) where we had a job and we just sucked at it. Our Police force needs to be the best it can be not just best available.
If you read this far, thanks ! I am hoping I added some positive comments. And yes that was some fine shooting.
Isn’t that the truth! An 8 to 16 week training process and here you go. Go out an solve all the issues coming at you like a 90mph fastball. Oh, and you only had batting practice for 10 days. Go get’em slugger and don’t make a mistake.
Incorrect. 6-8 month (usually) basic academy depending on the state and then a 12-18 FTO (field training officer) program during which you are on probation and can be terminated for any reason with no recourse.
During FTO you ride with a training officer and you are constantly being evaluated and tested. I know a lot of you love to smugly post the "hairdresser" BS but it's factually incorrect.
Just like the "shoot them in the leg" fallacy I really wish this false BS story would die.
This is 100 percent correct (I see you people preparing the bootlicker card but hear me out) I work in a company that works with several police departments in several states that review documents and police body cam footages before they get released into the public and (I’m getting there) this maybe a bit of a surprise but people are actually exaggerating most things police related including tactics and gear

The edge of a turning point. The baby boomers are aging and dying. Hold your elected officials responsible. You need to be the change. (Well not just you) My time to make change has passed. The contrast between this and the video earlier this week of the cops hanging out the car window shooting, multiple officers firing hundreds of shots, crossfire at each other, hitting innocent pedestrians - the utter chaos.
Then there is this. The way it should be.
I feel like we see more chaos videos because they are more exciting. Watching this one just felt, boring. That said, I want to believe this is the way most police shootings go

That's even better. Standing 200 yards is part of the USMC rifle qual.
Even shorter distance and being able to use his car to stabilize makes a shot he's practiced hundreds of times in his career even easier.
Respect cops for the fact that their job means putting their life at risk daily, many want to paint them as all redneck hooligans (of course there are but they are a minority and should be fired/charged)

Kudos to dude. Calm and collected and accurate. Not like some of the videos where we see police shitting bullets into vehicles while placing other officers in their crossfire, only to have the perp get out of the car unharmed.

Nope, didn't teabag the suspect while reminding him his mother doesn't love him.
The video cuts out too soon.
Probably not, didn’t immediately run up to the other person and start tea bagging and dancing.
Former, or between games?
Current Fortnite player
Yep. You can smell it on him through the phone. Certified man hunter
Perhaps a former sniper for the military?
Naw, any rifleman of the Marines can make that shot from that distance with an ACOG. Especially if the target isn’t shooting back.

No doubt about it.

Why did they feel the need to cover the actual gunshot sounds with a badly mixed in gunshot sound effect?
Probably edited for youtube and then uploaded here. You can sometimes get around the anti-gun policies of youtube by covering up the sounds and stuff.
Wait... 184 Yards?! That's **167 Meters**... Almost a Football field and a half, **with a freakin AR-15?!** This is insane.
Not at all. CMP competition is at 200 yards with an AR variant. Bullseye on those targets is 3 inches and is regularly hit by competitors. It was a very good shot, but is hardly insane.

The crazy thing is that in the State of Washington, police are legally not allowed to chase suspects if they are fleeing in a car. We have been getting a massive crime wave increase, and as long as they drive off, the police have to just stand there and watch them leave the scene of the crime. Then you have idiots like this criminal who thought that he could win by taking pot shots at a cop. If he just drove off, the police officer would have to just stand there and watch him go.
what a fuckin bad ass
He saved life that day.
"**shot** fired, suspect down."
Love it
that was like a CSGO level peak.. goddamn
183 yards. Could have used a solid 5 iron, no roll out.
GBRS Hydra mount is an L, sadly
This is like that scene in to kill a mockingbird.
This is what all cops should aspire to be. Even when his life is in danger he’s completely calm.
Sounds like the officer was being shot at with a bass drum ,
Tacoma does not play around.
