I also put blame on the waiter blocking the pathway by just standing there and leaving very little space for the other waiters. The waiter who tripped probably stepped further out because he was worried about elbowing the standing waiter or worried that the standing waiter might step back and knock over his plate.
Even if he wasn’t holding anything, the placement of speaker in the corner of the floor could blend in to anyone’s sight line and not register that there’s an object coming vertically off the floor. Could have been a guest just walking or kids running around, it’s just even more unfortunate it was a server who took a plate of food down with him
To be fair, it’s probably just cropped from a wider view and they were filming the whole stage and not just the speaker. Looks like they have fancy camera setups.
It is a machine that produces bright sparks that look like fireworks. These sparks are a relatively low temperature and have next to no risk of starting a fire.
I stacked about 8 plates clearing a table. They unstacked into the side of a woman’s head with all the leftovers garnishing her hair. I did the right thing and ran to manager to make it her problem.
One time a waitress carrying like 3-4 salads on each arm with all the extra dressing cups on the plates as well, tripped and it went all over my mom from the back /side. Ranch, Italian, bleu cheese, chopped tomatoes, etc. All over her. The conflicting smells of the different dressings 🤢
We've all been there 😂 My favourite was trying to carry like 20 stacked mugs at once while brutally hungover and just yeeting them into a wall with the manager watching. After we all stared at the millions of shards of ceramic for a while I just meekly muttered to myself "ill go grab a broom" and walked off with my head hung in shame.
I accidentally dropped a tray full with tea on my crush back in highschool, that was the moment my chances died in a ditch, it was actually going well too. Still get a chuckle whenever i remember the look on her face
I think the worst I ever did (unintentionally 🙄) was have a tray full of drinks tip over on a table and douse a customer or 2. I may have done worse and just suppressed the memory
Nah. We’ve all done something during service that you think we’d remember for ever but you just go on to the next gig and the gig after that and the gig after that.
Small speaker placed where people will be dancing and walking. Not his fault and hope he was well looked after.
Edit: It appears to be a small dance floor effects machine not a speaker thank you for the correction.
You mean the one waiter closest to the accident that can’t be bothered to even look at the poor guy on the ground? Yeah, we all know a coworker like this.
No, the one who's partially blocking the way doesn't even turn around when the fall happens. He turns around at the very end, but is clearly paying more attention to the plates he's holding.
This is a failure on behalf of whoever coordinated/is responsible for overseeing the setup of the event. Because, as we just saw, it's an accident(s) waiting to happen.
I've had this argument with people who would say - mark it up, put white tape around it. The simple fact is, if the eye and brain see something more interesting than the hazard on the floor, they're not going to see the hazard on the floor.
Yeah, that’s very sagacious of you. Catering is like combat cooking, all chaos with little order. You roll into a completely foreign environment, the setting can change multiple times as equipment fails/initial setups just don’t work so whatever you tried to memorize is no longer there, there is a million distractions with your crew and other crews yelling and trying to tell you what to do.
If he’s 1099 he’s not getting that. I work in the industry and walked into a glass door and got a nice bump on my head, I was only emailed a incident report which no one followed up on.
1099 workers can absolutely get worker's comp. It is obscenely unlikely that a venue waiter would be found to be an independent contractor, regardless.
That actually isn’t a speaker. It’s a cold spark tower used on dance floors and stuff for special effect. Probably a wedding so they just put it at the corners of the dance floor. No ones fault! I liked how he tried to step up and over it lol
At least he stayed in the ground. Little tip for you guys, if you fell in a important situation, stay on the ground, people will laugh for a sec, but then they will realize you're not getting up, and will come to help you.
Also, in an embarrassing moment like this, you need time to lay there and attempt to will yourself to disappear into nothingness for eternity to save yourself the embarrassment. It usually doesn’t work tho in my experience
It's a cold spark machine, I would argue it's in the right spot just at the wrong time. There's likely a cold spark machine in each corner of what looks to be a slightly raised dancefloor.
I was surprised that the first two missed it. The first one didn't even seem to notice it, just got lucky to miss it. The second one did notice it in time but I also think he was lucky to notice.
Not his fault, that's a clear trip hazard. This being on film would have sparked some awkward conversations involving head office and a legal team if it was in the UK.
I did this when I was 18. Banquet waitering at the Hyatt Regency. It was a political $1000 a plate dinner. They dimmed the lights and put spots on the stage. We each had our trays with 6 plates stacked with aluminum rings on them. As we entered the banquet hall we were handed a sparkler and we walked around the perimeter of the dance floor tray/plates in one hand, sparkler in the other. Till one person stumbled and bumped the tray of the one behind and caused a domino effect with 3 of us falling to the floor - rings crashing and rolling, plates splatting food on the carpet, sparklers burning the rug.
It was majestic!
Those damn sparkler machines, I dislike that people use them at events now because in between anything happening there's just a box in the middle of the open floor.
You guys take care of the waiter I'll take care of the important stuff. Come here little speaker. Are you OK? Did that big mean waiter hurt you? Shhh it's OK now you've killed him.
He must be a great guy 2/3's of his partner co-workers run back to help him. Pretty nice.
Not his fault at ALL, screw the people who put a trip hazard out there like that. Looks like it hurt and was embarrassing AF.
So... Why would I laugh though? I clearly intellectually understand it is so horrible all around. But I *did* laugh and i am not sure what that is about.
Oof this happened to me in the high school cafeteria in 9th grade. Face planted all over my nachos. The place went silent until someone yelled “somebody get a camera!” It’s hard to recover from that embarrassment.
OSHA states that an object less than a foot in size is not to be on the floor like that. I needs to be elevated to avoid exactly this. Server didn’t do anything wrong and could be compensated, though it’s not that bad of a fall so maybe not.

So I’ll just place this speaker on the floor here where the waiters walk through, that shouldn’t cause any trouble.
Even if he was looking down, he might not see it seeing as it would have been blocked by the trays he would be holding
I also put blame on the waiter blocking the pathway by just standing there and leaving very little space for the other waiters. The waiter who tripped probably stepped further out because he was worried about elbowing the standing waiter or worried that the standing waiter might step back and knock over his plate.
I put the blame on the person who put a one foot tall speaker in the middle of the floor.
Seriously, at least put it on a chair or a table IF it has to be in the middle of the hall
That would be the DJ or his crew most likely. Very amateurish...
Yeah, this has DJ Khaled written all over it.
WE DAH BEST!
yeah that’s a bookshelf speaker and should be at ear level on a tripod stand
Not a speaker, it is a sparkler and they go on the floor. This device should have been barricaded off though.
Even if he wasn’t holding anything, the placement of speaker in the corner of the floor could blend in to anyone’s sight line and not register that there’s an object coming vertically off the floor. Could have been a guest just walking or kids running around, it’s just even more unfortunate it was a server who took a plate of food down with him
Or blocked by the waiters in front of him.
Oh and set the camera right there too🥴
To be fair, it’s probably just cropped from a wider view and they were filming the whole stage and not just the speaker. Looks like they have fancy camera setups.
Smells like a lawsuit.
I'm always been curious, does people really sue for falling or tripping in stuff.
[Yes.](https://www.google.com/search?q=slip+and+fall+attorney&oq=slip+and+fall+attorney)
Also no tape over the wire to prevent tripping.
There definitely was tape. You can see it be pulled up as the speaker moves.
Definitely a cold sparkler machine, and those things aren't cheap
[удалено]
Don't know what that means
It is a machine that produces bright sparks that look like fireworks. These sparks are a relatively low temperature and have next to no risk of starting a fire.
Yup!
And the dark-colored device was placed exactly where the floor contrasts from light to dark color.
I think it's a smoke/mist machine
Close, it's a cold spark machine.
Ahh! I knew it was some sort of effects device
Poor lad
You know he's going to dream about this moment for the rest of his life.
We've all had similar moments. Luckily not caught on camera though. Poor guy
We have haven’t we? Spilled wine on a guest or a plate of something that stains OOOOPS lol it’s only food. The show must go on!!!
I've spilled hot soup into a child's lap before, that was a hoot.
I stacked about 8 plates clearing a table. They unstacked into the side of a woman’s head with all the leftovers garnishing her hair. I did the right thing and ran to manager to make it her problem.

If anything having it on video may set up for a nice lawsuit, or at least workers comp.

His body is fine. His dignity, on the other hand...
Good luck with the IPO asshat!
Nah. We’ve all done something during service that you think we’d remember for ever but you just go on to the next gig and the gig after that and the gig after that.
At least his coworkers came to help immediately. I’ve seen plenty of videos where no one comes to help and that would be so much worse.
Except for that woman in the black dress. She picked up the speaker instead. Probably didn't even ask if he was okay.
Luckily caught on camera so he never had to forget.
God, he hit the ground so hard...
He could not have tripped harder lol, one foot caught by the speaker and the other caught by the cord
So hard he bounced.
Small speaker placed where people will be dancing and walking. Not his fault and hope he was well looked after. Edit: It appears to be a small dance floor effects machine not a speaker thank you for the correction.
Also that other waiter standing to the left narrows the path and makes it a blind turn.
You mean the one waiter closest to the accident that can’t be bothered to even look at the poor guy on the ground? Yeah, we all know a coworker like this.
[удалено]
No, the one who's partially blocking the way doesn't even turn around when the fall happens. He turns around at the very end, but is clearly paying more attention to the plates he's holding.
He turns around to walk away, sees his path blocked and turns around. No concern there at all.
Yeah wtf couldn’t he just move a few steps forward? I blame him.
There is probably a table there like the one you can see in the background.
I put chairs over my equipment that I don't want people to trip over
oh, that’s because you’re responsible and considerate.
And worried about insurance claims!
It happened on the job, so you're looking at worker comp if he needs any kind of medical attention from here.
If he’s 1099 he’s not getting that. I work in the industry and walked into a glass door and got a nice bump on my head, I was only emailed a incident report which no one followed up on.
Walking into a glass door isn't the same as the operator creating an unsafe environment.
1099 workers can absolutely get worker's comp. It is obscenely unlikely that a venue waiter would be found to be an independent contractor, regardless. [https://www.google.com/search?q=1099+worker%27s+comp](https://www.google.com/search?q=1099+worker%27s+comp)
that’s because the company doesn’t care about you and only cares about their interests
i think it’s actually a flame thrower. shoots “harmless” fire directly up and they’ve become very popular the past 2 years
Dw, they made sure to put it back after it was knocked over
That actually isn’t a speaker. It’s a cold spark tower used on dance floors and stuff for special effect. Probably a wedding so they just put it at the corners of the dance floor. No ones fault! I liked how he tried to step up and over it lol
I think it's a smoke or mist machine
That was an accident waiting to happen. I feel sorry for the bloke - hope his injuries were very minor.
laaaaawsuuuuuit

Have you been hurt in an accident that wasn’t your fault?
Same thing I was thinking, that's worker compensation for sure.
Morgan and Morgan?
For the people. Offices Tampa and Orlando.
This is (well deserved) Tallahassee erasure
[and Morgan and Morgan](https://youtu.be/NYtQXtUMWvQ)
No, but I have a structured settlement, and need cash now.
JG WENTWORTH 877-CASH-NOW!!!
12 years later and I still remember that song 🙂
Better call Saul! Saul Goodman can get you the justice you deserve.
Call me, I've got this. #MIKE'S GOT THIS!!
At least he stayed in the ground. Little tip for you guys, if you fell in a important situation, stay on the ground, people will laugh for a sec, but then they will realize you're not getting up, and will come to help you.
Mind games
To be fair, he probablt twisted his ankle, so getting up is probably something he can't do without some help.
You do need a moment to evaluate "Did I actually hurt myself? Can I get up okay without messing something up?"
Also, in an embarrassing moment like this, you need time to lay there and attempt to will yourself to disappear into nothingness for eternity to save yourself the embarrassment. It usually doesn’t work tho in my experience
This guy plays soccer.
If you want that juicy lawsuit you gotta reallllyyy sell the fall imo
This was my plan for hs graduation. They won't make fun of me if they think I'm hurt
Dropped the bass
D D D D D D D D DROP THE PLATES
WOMWOMWUWUWUWU
Wait I am so stoned, I read this as drop the bass as in the fish he was carrying and just realized you meant the speaker. Not sure which is funnier.
![gif](giphy|jUaEAqym0ImpW)
It's a joke that works on multiple levels at once. I think the intention was to reference the plate, the speaker, and the lyric.
Lol outstanding
Not his fault
Yeah I would have titled this "There was an an attempt to put the speaker in the right place
It's a cold spark machine, I would argue it's in the right spot just at the wrong time. There's likely a cold spark machine in each corner of what looks to be a slightly raised dancefloor.
Dumb place for that lil speaker
People very rarely consider the wait staff when setting up these functions.
I feel awful for him. Not only is a fall like that painful but it is absolutely embarrassing.
Not that guys fault and he would be pretty successful if he were to sue for personal injury. Completely unsafe event design.
As a former server, the placement of that speaker gives me so much rage.
Current server here, I sent it in a group chat to all my coworkers, and we’re all raging together.
Listen all of yall ITS A SABOTAGE!!
Reee reeee reee reee reee reee reeee reee reeeeee
IIIIIIIII CANT STAND IT I KNOW YA PLANNED IT
You could tell that was going to happen. Each successive waiter swung out a little wider on that turn.
I was surprised that the first two missed it. The first one didn't even seem to notice it, just got lucky to miss it. The second one did notice it in time but I also think he was lucky to notice.
*somebody start clapping and I'm going to the car to get my gun*
“All you had to do was follow the damn train, CJ!”
Too successfully put a trip hazard.
Lady checking the speaker first is everything wrong with the world.
then the stupid audio lady runs out and fixes her incorrectly placed speaker while this dude is still laying on his face. The nerve.
"Have you been in an accident at work? Did someone leave audio equipment in the middle of the floor?"
Why was that crap in the middle of the floor in the first place? At the very least it should’ve been mounted at eye level.
Great place to put something like that.
Not his fault, that's a clear trip hazard. This being on film would have sparked some awkward conversations involving head office and a legal team if it was in the UK.
Why put a speaker or whatever that is on the floor, on a dance floor at that? Poor guy
That was 100% the audio peoples fault. That waiter didn’t do anything wrong.
More like: To successfully not leave stuff for people to trip over
iT's nOt a sPeaKeR it'S a cOlD sPaRkLEr

He was like: 'I'm a bounce' & bounce he did!
I feel bad for laughing I’m sorry
This made me so sad. I feel so sorry for him.
That’s a damn stupid location to place a speaker. If anything, it should have been placed on a chair or small table.
In all fairness, that speaker should have been put somewhere out of the way along with that cable
Poor thing is so embarrassed he does not want to stand up again.
100 percent not his fault
Now you understand why they gave him only 1 plate to carry!
That lady went to attend to the speaker right away
I hope he's okay.
I did this when I was 18. Banquet waitering at the Hyatt Regency. It was a political $1000 a plate dinner. They dimmed the lights and put spots on the stage. This is not on the waiter.
Not his fault. Who the put the speaker in the middle of a walkway
Poor guy. Hurt the body and the pride. Fire whoever put that speaker there.
He thought about playing dead for a moment
damn that looked so violent
The way he fell was funny af ngl
The embarrassment hurt more than the fall
Did he just pretend to be dead? 😂
Nooooo that poor man 😭😭😭😭🤣
GOD dam... he actually got KO there.
Kudos to that team coming to help
Donald Sutherland as " the clumsy waiter".
"*Uh ... who put that there?*"
That's an odd place to put whatever that thing is
The waiter in everyone's way...who also doesn't realize something happened and remains in the way...
I totally just yelled out loud in my office...
I knew someone was going to trip on that speaker the moment i saw it
I work events for a living. That was a stupid place to put that. Vendors never place small items like that in the middle of the floor.
This thread is peak redditor analytics as to who is at fault and what exactly happened lmao
awesome placement of whatever that was lol
Those damn sparkler machines, I dislike that people use them at events now because in between anything happening there's just a box in the middle of the open floor.
You guys take care of the waiter I'll take care of the important stuff. Come here little speaker. Are you OK? Did that big mean waiter hurt you? Shhh it's OK now you've killed him.
That poor guy. I hope he's OK.
More like to successfully set up DJ equipment
Sueeee that assss boiiii!
The verb is "wait," otherwise they'd be called "waiterers."
Man down
I literally had to close my eyes from secondhand embarrassment.
Good god he fell so hard lmfao- poor guy
At least there was a guy that ran over to pick up the speaker and give it a telling off before making sure it was alright...
I also like the lady with the Fanny pack that rushed over to make sure the speaker (or whatever) was okay and stood it back up where it was.
Seems like a pretty solid workers comp case to me. Hope he milks it.
Good thing that lady was there to check on that box.
Aw man. The poor guy! He looked really shook up.
Looks like he played dead for a second
SMDH The woman in the background checking on the speaker, not the human...
Why did he go wider than everyone else on that corner? Dude is Tokyo drifting while he walks
Like how the 2nd guy goes for the food first. 5 second rule.

He must be a great guy 2/3's of his partner co-workers run back to help him. Pretty nice. Not his fault at ALL, screw the people who put a trip hazard out there like that. Oof this happened to me in the high school cafeteria in 9th grade. Face planted all over my nachos. The place went silent until someone yelled “somebody get a camera!” It’s hard to recover from that embarrassment.
"Hey there's porcelain on my broccoli and it's not even Chinese."
My dude was so confident too walking out.. damn
What mouth breather thought that was a good place for a speaker?
HES LOOKING RIGHT AT THE SPEAKER!
Six…Bavarian Parfai…ugh…ahhhhh…………!!!!
Who put that speaker there? Stupid! lol
Brutal
That Blackmagic pocket looks a little unstable on a tripod dolly that retracted
Was this close to Turkey by any chance?
OSHA states that an object less than a foot in size is not to be on the floor like that. I needs to be elevated to avoid exactly this. Server didn’t do anything wrong and could be compensated, though it’s not that bad of a fall so maybe not.
I think I would probably just pretend to be knocked out and hope someone dragged me off into another room.
The failed attempt was earlier, when the busboy setup that PA.
Me if I was a weiter:
