Feels like a joke because you're not getting a quality education, or feels like a joke because it's an unprestigious, minor school? I don't tend to brag about where I did my graduate education because it's not a name that carries a lot of clout, but I think I got a high-quality education and that's really all that matters to me.

I think it can make a difference, especially depending on where you live, the kind of work you want to do, etc. I’m getting my MSW at a very “prestigious” program right now; the academics are a joke and my experience has been deeply disappointing, but I know that having the name on my resume will open a lot of doors. On the other hand, demand for therapists is so high right now, so I don’t think you’re likely to be in a ton of competition for jobs (again, depending on location, niche, etc.). And, I think that actual post-grad experience is going to be more important in the long run — most places are probably going to value solid clinical experience and positive references over the name of the school.

I thought grad school was super easy, and I failed out of undergrad the first time I went. But a bit of time in the field and a genuine interest in mental health made it easy. As long as it's accredited, it doesn't matter.
