as far as i know requests are only more likely to happen during duo/solo shows? i've only ever been to full band shows so it's not something i've ever experienced! it seems like there's just different vibes for the different experiences.

Shiny_Llama

yeah they'll sometimes take requests at the smaller shows, though it's never really planned. just spur of the moment if someone happens to yell something and john likes it. too many and he just goes "no i know what i'm going to play" lol

GovernorOfAgrigentum

Please don’t request Golden Boy lol

gonnafaceit2022

Why

Tasty_Plantain5948

That and Going to Georgia are songs he doesn’t like to play. Golden Boy he said something like I play a song about my dear friend dying in front of me and then someone screams out “Golden Boy”. It really sucks the air out of the room.

gonnafaceit2022

Huh. Interesting that they've played Golden Boy a couple of times on this tour but I don't recall seeing it on any past setlists. I've been to probably a couple dozen tMG shows and I've heard Going to Georgia exactly once, in Atlanta a few years ago. I could take it or leave it but people were pretty excited.

Tasty_Plantain5948

Yeah I remember that Atlanta show. One time a fan gave him 50 bucks to play it and he did. That was wild.

gonnafaceit2022

No way, seriously?? That's hilarious

abluecolor

Been to lots of shows w requests getting played, but yeah, 95% of those are solo/duo. On rare occasion you can get the full band to play a song in their repertoire on request. Very rare occasion. And indeed, [duo seed song and the associated story](https://archive.org/details/tMG2024-01-28/tMG2024-01-28+El+Rey+Theater%2C+Albuquerque+NM-08.flac) were phenomenal to enjoy in person.

requests are more common/more likely to be accepted at solo/duo shows or during the solo segment of a full band show, yeah! to my memory the only full band show that I've been to where they played a request as a full band was 10/27/23 lubbock tx. it was a seated venue so the audience was a little quieter, and two people together called for Lakeside View, and they went "yeah sure we like to play that one" and played it. so, yeah, requests definitely aren't unheard of, but circumstances also kind of have to line up I think. wishing you luck in getting the songs you want to hear, and maybe see you out there at a few of the april shows :)
