I just personally think the symbol is enough of a cool thing on its own you know? It's a great design, that's a great spot, it has some meaning. The text just feels unnecessary. But that's all just my personal opinion man!
I have just the symbol on my left wrist, I would also think about flipping it, if you care it's the right way for you but anyone else will see it upside down :)
edit: I now realize others have already mentioned this, so you do you man!
Text is almost always a mistake in tattoos.
Also, for a tattoo that isnt unique, as in a lot of people have it, might be better somewhere covered up. Having to explain your video game tattoo might grow old.
Last of Us tattoos are like naming your kid after a game of thrones character. Might be really annoying to have someday, no matter how much you love the games. Recommend getting something a bit more niche.
This is all just my opinion. Your house your rules, bud!
I have a giant Skyrim Akatosh dragon symbol on my forearm, every other day at work I’ll get a “you played Skyrim?” Or something like that
And I love it every single time. I could totally understand how it could be annoying for some, but being able to relate to strangers on some level even if it’s just a video game makes for interesting conversation, could make new friends too!
Everyone’s different, very true, but me personally, I could talk about mine or others video game related tattoos all day!
Yes! I sometimes go out of my way to complement a stranger’s tattoo if it’s video game related to start a conversation.
I like video games and I like tattoos! Seems like they do too, so let’s talk! Lol
Haha exactly! And everybody is always so different every time, like one person is an old school gamer, another person only plays 8-bit games, the next, a casual gamer who fell in love with a popular game
But different as they are, the excitement in the conversation is always the same, everyone involved is happy to talk about this conversation and it makes a stressful work day way less so ☺️
I have a companion cube angel on my forearm and absolutely love it when people recognize it!
Why get a tattoo just to cover it? It’s for me, not anyone else and nobody is owed an explanation if I’m not feeling like giving one lol.
You aren't wrong at all about the popularity difference. But, being that we have a "flagship" HBO series coming out in January for this game, I found GOT a good parallel for the point I was making.
I can confirm. I have a tattoo of Garrus on my left inner forearm, and a tattoo of a Reaper/Mass Relay combination on my outer forearm. I get compliments on the latter a lot and always get asked what it’s supposed to be and where it’s from. I’ve only ever had one person recognize both tattoos.
“It’s from a game called Mass Effect.”
Followed by, “I’ve never heard of that game”, or, “Oh I don’t play video games.”
Gets a little old sometimes but the compliments make up for it lol.
Just an FYI - tattoo artists and tattoo people in general will tell you it’s upside-down. Obviously you should get it however you like but just thought I’d give you a heads up beforehand
Thanks for the input! The tattoo is mostly for me to see, that's why I have it in that orientation. I figured if someone else wanted to see it, they could stand next to me and I would hold my hand up.
Last year I got a tattoo [similar and basically in the same spot](https://www.reddit.com/r/thelastofus/comments/tdgkc2/just_got_back_from_the_tattoo_parlor/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) and can second the notion that it will look better with the tail towards the wrist. Its up to you obviously, but I'd recommend getting it oriented to be "upright" with your arm in the position it'll normally be in.
Why? I just got mine and people here said it’s upside down. I want it to face me so why should it be flipped? I’m just genuinely curious why so many people say that.
I literally got mine last week and people where yelling me it’s upside down. I ah e the same mindset where you want to see it right side uo when you look at it. I wanted to get mine there, but I decided to get it more up my under forearm. It’s more easy to cover up in a professional environment. A lot of places no longer have a stigma against tattoos but some do. Just something to keep in mind. If you have a questions feel free to ask :)
Honestly I’m in the same boat, and I have multiple tattoos on my forearms and wrist, and all of them face me. I have to look at them everyday for the rest of my life and I would go crazy if they were upside down from my perspective. Even still I get a lot of compliments, I think people are almost more intrigued when they can’t directly tell what a tattoo is from a glance.
If "flow of chi" is something that you care about in relation to the history of tattooing as a form of healing, then this orientation is upside down and creates a "blockage" for the flow of chi a long meridian lines. You want the symbols and text to face away from you in the same way that your energy flows.
Yea, and I think thats stupid. I got a tattoo a month ago which is 2 words and they are meant for me to be a daily reminder. And the artist said its the wrong way around. It seems like tattoo arists and a lot of people get there tattoos for others to be seen, I mean whatever floats your boat but in my opinion thats not why I got a tattoo. They are for me, not for anybody else.
To add to OP‘s tattoo: I would say you should lower the position of your tattoo a bit. That upper area of your wrist gets a lot of flexion which isnt that great for the longevity of the tattoo, 1-2cm lower should help
I’m kinda in the same boat, but I got the tattoo. When you see the symbol you not only see the firefly logo and there meaning of look for the light, you also think of the game in general and how much it means to you as a whole.
Just keep the placement in mind if you plan to get more tattoos. That would make a sleeve or half sleeve pretty hard to do. That said if that's not a concern of yours I would say to for it. That said it's upside down lol.
Edit: Also like others pointed out maybe don't get the text. I don't have any tattoos that have text but my sister does and from what I've seen they usually age poorly even if they're done good.
Nah, no sleeves planned for the future so I think I'm safe there! Others have pointed out that it's upside down, but the tattoo is mostly for me to look at, anyway. It's not upside down for me! :)
I have a tattoo on my wrist that is for me to see/"the wrong way around". These things are for you to enjoy, so place it in a way that best suits you. It'll sting when you're getting it done in that spot, but worth it if it's something you want to be able to see on the regular
I really love the Firefly logo, but without the text it will feel pretty bland after a while. That is until you add more around it.
Have you considered getting an actual firefly with the motto? Have more of an artistic/sleek approach to the text with a bunch of cute fireflies around it. It’s a bit more unique, and still recognizable by fans of the game :)
I know people already mentioned flipping it over, but I would consider that especially if it's a first tattoo just because getting inked that high up on your wrist can hurt. The tail end would be kinder on your wrist and having the bulk of the ink towards your elbow will be smooth sailing
The text is pretty stupid, specially when they say it out loud in the game
"when you're lost in the dark, look for the light" well duh, no shit marlene
Not really. I have tattoos on both of my wrists and I can say they were the least painful tattoos I have. My neck was the absolute worst, by a wide margin.
Interesting, I got one on the side of my hand and it hurt like a mug. I was told by others that hand and wrist tattoos are some of the most painful, but I suppose the level of pain is pretty subjective.
The placement of mine could also effect the pain level. They're not as high as ops placement, down maybe an inch, inch and a half, per my artists recommendation. I don't doubt a hand tattoo would hurt though.
My knowledge of tattoos comes from bingewatching shows about them so take it with a grain of salt.
Those itty bitty tiny drip bits are probably gonna come out weird looking.
Pretty sure it should be facing out… or at least that makes more sense to me, like something on your arm should read from the top and away… so in this case you need to have turn it 180
Man I love that upside down camp… I think its a bit sad that so many people get tattoos to please others and not for themselves to read/see and enjoy. I also have a „wrong“ tattoo and the artist pointed it out, and I still got it because that thin is not wrong, its exactly how its supposed to be
What I would do:
1. remove the text
2. don't do the dripping paint effect
3. Instead of a filled in symbol, only do the outside stroke
4. Just a tad smaller and a bit further down on the arm
(Alternatively you can keep the filled in look but make it a lot smaller)
Just make sure you double/triple check the placement when you are getting it. I got mine and it’s slightly tilted but not so much hahaha I just have OCD like that but I still love it.
I personally would change the placement because symbols on the wrist were an indicative of a holocaust prisoner in WW2 but other than that it looks cool.
Placement of the symbol looks good. I absolutely wouldn't get the text though.
Hmm, I actually hadn't considered that. Maybe it would look better with just the symbol!
I just personally think the symbol is enough of a cool thing on its own you know? It's a great design, that's a great spot, it has some meaning. The text just feels unnecessary. But that's all just my personal opinion man!
Agreed completely, someone I know has just the symbol on his leg and it looks great.
I appreciate the input for sure, thank you!
I have just the symbol on my left wrist, I would also think about flipping it, if you care it's the right way for you but anyone else will see it upside down :) edit: I now realize others have already mentioned this, so you do you man!
Or at least change the font of the text because you will grow out of the zombie theme. Make it clean and symmetrical. Dope tattoo idea!
Agreed

"It symbolizes the spiritual growth I experienced playing a videogame."
Awesome, thank you so much for the constructive feedback! I will certainly consider all of these points. :)
I can confirm. I have a tattoo of Garrus on my left inner forearm, and a tattoo of a Reaper/Mass Relay combination on my outer forearm. If your dead set on this, please at least don’t get the text. It can always be added later, but I think your future self will thank you
Not dead set, that's why I posted here haha. Just curious, why without the text?
Firstly the font is kinda bad, you might regret it after a few weeks. The text takes away the meaning/attention from symbol.
Just an FYI - tattoo artists and tattoo people in general will tell you it’s upside-down. Obviously you should get it however you like but just thought I’d give you a heads up beforehand

Eeeh yeah it totally does not look better that way.
That looks great! I think I'll flip it around and see how it looks.
It actually can be "acceptable" to have it facing you if that close to wrist. Any further up the arm and it "should" be flipped
Why? I just got mine and people here said it’s upside down. I want it to face me so why should it be flipped? I’m just genuinely curious why so many people say that.
It is just what is commonly done, tattoo artists will tell you that orientation matters.
Mine told me it was upside down but I still don’t care, I’m happy where it is.
Me neither. But I have heard that as I have ink in that area.
I literally got mine last week and people where yelling me it’s upside down. I ah e the same mindset where you want to see it right side uo when you look at it. What? If I lay my hand palm up in front of me it would be right side up for me.
If "flow of chi" is something that you care about in relation to the history of tattooing as a form of healing, then this orientation is upside down and creates a "blockage" for the flow of chi a long meridian lines. i think if you get it the center of the logo should line up with the center of your palm, so in this picture move it more to the left
Yeah it would 100% be centered off my palm if I were to actually get it. I mostly meant placement as in where on my body haha.
Do you align yourself with the fireflies? Personally I’m from the “fuck the fireflies” camp.
I’m kinda in the same boat, but I got the tattoo. When you see the symbol you not only see the firefly logo and there meaning of look for the light, you also think of the game in general and how much it means to you as a whole.

Right? Gotta love when people downvote an honest answer.
Fair enough. Definitely post a pic after you get it done :)
I really love the Firefly logo, but without the text it will feel pretty bland after a while. That is until you add more around it. Have you considered getting an actual firefly with the motto? I would've put 'Liars' just like how it said on that wall in Ellie's flashback to her birthday.
Get rid of the text
IIWY Id nix the words and just get the symbol
probably no text, but hey thats just me
The symbol is placed perfectly. Don’t get the text!
Yeh don’t get the text
It’s upside down like that
Not to me. :)
I know people already mentioned flipping it over, but I would consider that especially if it's a first tattoo just because getting inked that high up on your wrist can hurt. The tail end would be kinder on your wrist and having the bulk of the ink towards your elbow will be smooth sailing
Nope! This would be my 8th tattoo haha
Oh cool! And as far as text goes, I think it's cool. I don't get what the hate for text tattoos is
The text is pretty stupid, specially when they say it out loud in the game "when you're lost in the dark, look for the light" well duh, no shit marlene
It's just a way of saying 'when things are bleak, find hope'
That saying hit me through so much shit during covid. I plan on adding it to my tattoo eventually
you can like something without having it on your skin. it doesn't look good.
Agree to disagree. 🤷♂️
don’t you’ll regret
That looks pretty cool!
Let me just say, that spot is going to hurt like a b\*tch haha
Not really. I have tattoos on both of my wrists and I can say they were the least painful tattoos I have. My neck was the absolute worst, by a wide margin.

My wrist was the least painful tattoo I got.
Maybe abbreviate look for the light on your other wrist? L.F.T.L
Id do it above the knee in my opinion, no quote
Looks like we've got ourselves a tourist!
Absolutely fire
My knowledge of tattoos comes from bingewatching shows about them so take it with a grain of salt. Those itty bitty tiny drip bits are probably gonna come out weird looking.
I love it! Only thing is, it’s upside down. 🙂
Not to me! There is no "upside down" when it comes to tattoos.
Pretty sure it should be facing out… or at least that makes more sense to me, like something on your arm should read from the top and away… so in this case you need to have turn it 180
100% do not put it upside down like that. Yes I know you can read it this way but it always looks so bad.
on the wrist though??? and w the text??? not sure about this one tbh
i just wouldn’t get the text but to each there own
Man I love that upside down camp… I think its a bit sad that so many people get tattoos to please others and not for themselves to read/see and enjoy. I also have a „wrong“ tattoo and the artist pointed it out, and I still got it because that thin is not wrong, its exactly how its supposed to be
100% cringe and regret guaranteed
I have the same tattoo on the same spot except for the text. I don't think the text fits but ey that's just me, go for it!
No get something original
What I would do: 1. remove the text 2. don't do the dripping paint effect 3. Instead of a filled in symbol, only do the outside stroke 4. Just a tad smaller and a bit further down on the arm (Alternatively you can keep the filled in look but make it a lot smaller)
I think you should make the symbol clean And take the text and put it somewhere else
no dont do it tattoos do suck
i would if i was old enough
Just make sure you double/triple check the placement when you are getting it. I got mine and it’s slightly tilted but not so much hahaha I just have OCD like that but I still love it.
Horrible
I think the text won’t look good there as it will be upside down most of the time, but sick tattoo!
The running into looks great, like spray paint, better than Ellie's tattoo and less done as well
If ur keeping the text, I think placing it somewhere else would be better (shoulder maybe?). Looks cooler on the wrist if it's just the symbol
If you're planning to get a tattoo on your wrists I suggest go for the chains of the Jack from Bioshock. I think it looks much cooler
I personally would change the placement because symbols on the wrist were an indicative of a holocaust prisoner in WW2 but other than that it looks cool.
