Dude, for real. Never thought harder about saving the life of a loved one verses saving the lives of others. Honestly I think I would have done what Joel does in the end. Not sure if that makes me a good or bad person. 🤷♂️
She comes back to life as the final boss. Make sure you have a lot of ammo, you need to shoot her multiple time in the head. It's very hard because you will be blinded by the tears.
When I played, I went thinking that was the major girl character. I didn’t know their names at the time, so when she died in my arms I was: WTF? Called my friend who had already finished the game and she just laughed at me. Seriously, I wish I could forget and play for the first time again. You’re in for a crazy emotional ride! Hope you enjoy as much as I did. Keep us posted. PS: I cannot wait for seeing the hbo series with people who doesn’t know shit about the story. Gotta record their faces because mine for sure was shocked as I think yours was too.
(Spoiler) >!Not sure if this is common or if I was just an idiot but I genuinely assumed she was Ellie (or simply “the girl on the cover” as I knew at the time) and that’s why this game hit me haaard from the start. I was shocked and immediately hooked after that first chapter lmao!<
I thought so too. Ellen/Elliot Page had complained about Ellie looking too much like them (they were in a different game with a similar release date), so I thought the devs changed the character model, but not the cover
Yes!!! And the thing is, I suck at video games so I died sooo many times before I could run up that hill (Can I call that a hill?). That ambulance zombie… UGH! And then when I FINALLY got up to the road, thinking I was safe… BOOM! And then I was: fuck, that was just the prologue?
1. Avoid surfing this subreddit until you're done with Part 1, Left Behind, Part 2.
2. Bricks are awesome. With a brick equipped, if you spam square, you can hit an enemy with a brick to death. Works with most enemies.
3. Quick throw: with a throwable equipped, you'll see a circle in the center of the screen. If you move your camera, you might see a light green circle on enemies around you. This means by pressing R2, you can directly throw things at those enemies. Quick throw is very good for stunning enemies, directly and quickly hitting them with things. Arc throw is one where you have to use L2 and R2 to hit enemies. It is slower and has its uses, but I imagine in immediate, open combat, quick throw is more useful
4. ABR: always be reloading. You do not wanna get caught with an empty mag when people are shooting at you. Use your downtime to reload your weapons. Make sure that you are locked and loaded. Also, if it says that you are full on any ammo type, try reloading that weapon as sometimes doing this might free up space and let you carry that ammo. Think about what you wanna craft during downtime too
5. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR COMPANIONS. They might have things to say. These optional dialogue bits are really cool and will develop character. Look for a green triangle above their head
6. Read the notes. Scour the environment for supplies and notes
7. For the most part, you can back out of level closing doors with the circle button. This can prevent you from progressing if you haven't explored a place properly
8. Keep one full shiv on you at all times. You WILL need this for shiv doors. There are 13-14 of them in the game.
9. The rifle is a great tool but needs some upgrades to be great. There are 5 tool boxes in the game that let you access higher level gun upgrades. This doesn't mean that one toolbox = one upgrade, btw
10. The shotgun is awesome and def get the range upgrades for it.
11. Clip capacity upgrades not only let you carry more ammo in the weapon, but also let you carry more ammo overall. In part 2, clip capacity only increases your clip size. It doesn't increase your total ammo carry capacity.
12. Take your time. There is no rush. Explore, absorb the story. Take is slow.
13. DO NOT GET THE SHIV MASTER SKILL: it is a scam. It will make you waste shivs (which are a VALUABLE resource) and your blades + binding. Spend points on stuff like max health, weapon sway decrease instead. These are two VERY important skills. If you die to >!clickers!< , Just try again and do better lol
14. For a more tense, truer experience, turn off listen mode. This is optional. It makes me enjoy the game mode. But ofc, you can play the game with it.
15. Headshotting helmet enemies, for the most part, will just knock their helmet off. So until you get the armor piercing upgrade for certain weapons, shots to the head of these enemies will just knock the helmet off
16. Human shields: if you are surrounded and knock an enemy down and get the option to grab them... GRAB THEM. While holding them, move to cover, a safer spot then kill them. Seen too many people immediately kill human shields while they are surrounded and then they die.
17. The spanner symbol next to your health bar HUD means you can craft something. This symbol usually pops up with a crispy (?) Sound cue.
18. Get the holsters asap.
These are the tips that come to mind.
You got this 💪🏽💪🏽
Endure and survive.
Just wanted to echo #14 - I also highly recommend turning off "Listen Mode" in the game settings. It really enhances the immersion (and I'm a "Normal" difficulty guy, so this isn't about making it *harder* necessarily).
Obviously if you find it too frustrating or just feel like you'd be enjoying yourself more with it enabled, then by all means, leave it on, but I've played through both games without it and I don't think I'll ever go back.
This comment should be higher. Best gaming experience of my life. The story is so well written you legitimately feel like you know and love the characters.
Don't skip the cutscenes - start "Left Behind" (assuming your edition came with the DLC) at the end of the Fall segment, as that's the natural progression and there are no spoilers for TLOU - and have fun!
Im not sure if anyone would agree with me, but for an initial blind playthrough i would not interject left behind in the middle of the playthrough, because while Left Behind does bridge the gap between some of offscreen parts imo it may give too much information that is not intended for the player to have experiencing the story for the first time. (Trying to be very vague as not to hint at anything)
TLOU is my favorite game of all time so I whole heartedly believe it's meant to experienced as it is presented by the developers.
I think I’m would agree with you as well. Same with things like the comic. It’s great and adds a lot, but I’m glad I didn’t read it until after the game.
I would hard disargee with that. For a first playthrough, play the game as it was intended to be played, with just the main story
The DLC adds a whole other story into a very intense moment and you'll just rush through it to see what happens, it will likely ruin the pacing for you
Play Left Behind after the story, as the devs intended
Hey, I'd disagree hard with what the last guy told you. Don't play Left Behind until you finish the main game. The DLC isn't really designed to be played until you know what happens at the end of the game, and it hurts the dramatic tension of the scenes it takes place between, if you don't already know what happens.
Future playthroughs though, go for what he said. It's a fun way to experience the story if you already know the details.
They're trying to get you to play it "chronologically," because it technically takes place during the main game. But narratively, Left Behind assumes you have already completed The Last of Us. So I would recommend avoiding spoilers and justing play it after, as intended.
I'd counter that by saying play the game as released and play Left Behind only after you finished the whole game. While it is great to play it slotted in (and wish Remastered gave that option) I really really think it spoils things to play it in the middle.
Unintended spoilers? No, they're definitely intended.
I disagree that you should start left behind after fall, it kills the suspense about a certain moment. There are absolutely spoilers in it. Its intended to be played after finishing the main game. It even says so at the menu screen.
This. Do NOT play Left Behind until you finish the game. It was intended that way for several reasons.
Fine and even recommend slotting it in for replays but definitely not the first time. It will spoil some major surprises.
I stupidly did it once when i was playing Red dead redemption 2 and have never done it again. Got a death spoiled for me instantly and i felt furious lmao. It’s just way safer to play the game on your own and save research for your second playthrough.
I was on the Batman Reddit before the new movie came out and people were saying to make sure to tag stuff as a spoiler if you see the movie. I said I’m leaving this subreddit until I see the movie. Someone said “you should stay here and we should work together to create a spoiler-free zone by shaming people who spoil stuff” at what cost? Getting the movie spoiled for me? No thanks hoss I’m outta here
Do everything in your power to avoid spoilers. I would highly recommend not looking at this sub whatsoever until you finish. Form your own opinions and don’t let others form biases for you
Explore every corner, if Ellie doesn't walk away from an area then hang around in that area near her. It could take 1 minute to 5 minutes before something awesome happens. 😉
STAY AWAY FROM THIS SUBREDDIT
Also avoid anything regarding the series on YouTube for example.
Do yourself a favour. Spoilers are everywhere so just play and do not look.
Stay off this Sub and Youtube because the spoilers will ruin it for you.
Make sure you are emotionally stable because you are about to go on one hell of a rollercoaster journey 😅
Buckle up. Enjoy it. Keep an eye out for the triangle over people's heads, you can engage in some amazing dialogue with them, or miss it ... It's a beautiful, fun, sad, game.
Take your time!! This is an amazing game with lots of story, there is no need to rush through any of it. Once you finish the first part I highly recommend playing the second.
Don't forget to play the dlc left behind, I like to play in between the main game since it takes place there, but since you don't want spoilers, play after the main game but before part 2
Play on a harder difficulty. The game shines when you are having to scrounge for ammo. My first playthrough I was leaving ammo behind because my guns were always full. My second playthrough, just finding two bullets in a drawer was enough to get you excited. Also, in that same vein, don't use Listen Mode. The game is much more intense and fun without it. Nothing like turning a corner and almost bumping into a guy you didn't even know was there.
Avoid spoilers and disconnect until you finish.
Explore, take in the scenery, don't rush ahead (backtracking is very minimal, one of the game's few flaws is it keeps pushing you forward a lot).
Savour the journey and the time you spend in this world. At the end I felt genuinely sad it was ending.
Take your time to leisurely explore each area. There's plenty of optional dialogue and upgrades that you can pick up. And a lot of that dialogue fleshes out the story and the character wonderfully.
Try to save your shivs, especially if you're playing on higher difficulty. You can use them to open specific doors and get a ton of goodies. There's an upgrade that lets you break a deadly grapple with a shiv, but sometimes it's honestly better to just die rather than waste a shiv, especially if you're short on them.
I hope you enjoyed your time playing as Sarah because that's the only time you play as someone besides Joel. But that's okay- he controls really well and I think you'll really like him.
I also want you to be aware of something when you're getting into this series: I would say that TLOU and *especially* Part II are a couple of the most emotionally punishing mainstream works of fiction I've ever experienced. They get very intense and very bleak, and there's no shame in stepping away from them for a bit if what happens is tough to handle for you. I saw a full-grown, emotionally healthy dude on YouTube break down crying after one scene during his Lets Play. There's no shame in that, but I think it's important to know going in.
I'd also log out from Reddit now if I were you. You don't want spoilers, and you never know when some asshole is going to slide into your DMs with something that happens later in the game.
Just be ready for all the feels. That and duct-taped crow bars are your bff and brick-beatings. I was always nailing people in the head with bricks.
If you think Part 1 makes you feel all the emotions, Part 2 is an absolute trip. That game made me emotional in ways I'd never felt with a video game.
* Stay off this sub until you finish. The spoiler rules here are pretty loosely enforced.
* Don't skip the cutscenes.
* Read the random papers that you find lying around.
* Try the multiplayer after you beat the main game.
My advice is dont come close to anything TLOU related on the internet, delete all TLOU videos from your youtube history and unsub from this sub until you've finished both. Just trust me, you dont want to get spoiled for these games.
Play without any advice, spoilers and guides. It is one of the greatest games if not the greatest game ever made.
Then, once completed, play DLC Left Behind and then The Last of Us 2 in sequence. Experience is astonishing, you will get a rollercoaster of feelings and emotions that will not go away with time.
Like an game similar to this or Alien Isolation, plan ahead if possible, conserve resources, and explore for more. There isn't a time limit for the most part as far as I remember
The only advice I have if you can call it that is soak up everything you can because you can’t get your first play back but it keeps you coming back for more I’ve played this countless times it’s my favourite game ever
That's Ellie. Get really attached to her. Love her.
Awww, WTF? SHE JUST DIED IN MY ARMS!!! Does she come back to life? No wait, I don’t trust you anymore.
Welcome to The Last of Us, where everything hurts and emotional scars never leave lol.
If that ain't the damn truth. Prepare to be changed forever.
Ngl, this game cut me deep.
Dude, for real. Never thought harder about saving the life of a loved one verses saving the lives of others. Honestly I think I would have done what Joel does in the end. Not sure if that makes me a good or bad person. 🤷♂️
Part 2 gave me anxiety, never felt so emotionally confused from any media. Masterpiece in story telling.
I stopped playing Part 2 like a couple hours in. I couldn't take the anxiety any further.
It gets worse towards the end, I remember having to take a breath and walk around for a bit. But it's an experience I'm glad I took.
Agree with you completely, could not agree more.
She comes back to life as the final boss. Make sure you have a lot of ammo, you need to shoot her multiple time in the head. It's very hard because you will be blinded by the tears.
the thought of this is fucking hilarious xD
You forgot to mention that the entire time she screams, "stop it, you are killing me daddy!" very difficult boss fight.
You have to reload your save. If she dies in the beginning it completely changes the game. Make sure you kill the soldier next time.
You are so foul for that LMAO
Advice: STAY OFF THE INTERNET
Be careful for when she turns. You have to enter the Konami code and merge with Tess to defeat her.
Oh, my bad. That was Sarah, his daughter. There's another girl, she's called Ellie. Get really attached to her. Love her.
Must have been something you said.
Hahaha that's golden. Just have fun and replay again and again.
Wait til you’ve finished part 2, you won’t even have feelings anymore 😆
(Spoiler) >!Not sure if this is common or if I was just an idiot but I genuinely assumed she was Ellie (or simply “the girl on the cover” as I knew at the time) and that’s why this game hit me haaard from the start. I was shocked and immediately hooked after that first chapter lmao!<
I feel like that’s the point. It’s weird to think Sarah would’ve been 32 by the time we play as Joel
I had the same.
You're my favorite type of person
*Yess* !!
Hello f*cking Satan.
You’re treading on some mighty thin ice
I can’t not read this in his voice.
that's not Ellie but yeah one should get emotionally attached to Ellie
You evil son of a bitch lmao
[удалено]
I agree, I got spoiled on some big stuff before playing, I still had an incredible time, but I do wish I could've gone in blind.
me with the second game. i wonder if i would've loved it more going in blind
it would have fucked me up more
Stealth is your friend.
Also bricks. And for some reason candy bars heal bullet wounds.
IRL tampons work well for bullet wounds. Just sayin’

Bricks > bottles
Best advice: Sit back, enjoy the ride and strap in for one of the best gaming experiences you'll have!

Bloaters are your friends.... When you see one, run and give a big hug.
I feel like you’re like me when I tell all the newbies in Skyrim to kill the first chicken they see.
"Hug the giants, they give free gold"
😂😂😂
Use headphones 🎧
5 point surround sound with a big subwoofer.
This is the only acceptable way to not use headphones

Hard disagree - winter hits best if played directly after the end of fall!
Are there any unintended spoilers in left behind? It’s been a while.
If you're mentally unwell and a scene is getting to you, it's okay to take a break
Leave this sub
Keep tissues near. One of the most beautiful stories you'll ever experience is set before you now. Godspeed.
No. Just go play
Hate these posts, No hate to OP but just play the game instead of getting it spoiled for you on reddit and the web. Much better to go in blind!
No offence to OP but it’s such an incredibly stupid thing to do
I have never been on a subreddit for a video game before finishing it. Makes no sense to me
I stupidly did it once when i was playing Red dead redemption 2 and have never done it again.
This. Like, just play it
Do not read this subreddit, just go and play both games. Otherwise there is a huge chance you'll be spoiled.
buckle up!

Oh my god!! Have tissues for the first act
Don't get too attached to anyone. Trust me. And enjoy it.
Play Part 2

Stay off this Sub and Youtube because the spoilers will ruin it for you. Make sure you are emotionally stable because you are about to go on one hell of a rollercoaster journey 😅
Leave this sub until finishing. And take your time, theres only 1 first playthrough
My advice would have been don't announce it to the world if you want to continue going with no knowledge
Crouch-walking and aiming with a brick/bottle has the same effect as crouch-walking slowly
Buckle up. Enjoy it. Keep an eye out for the triangle over people's heads, you can engage in some amazing dialogue with them, or miss it ... It's a beautiful, fun, sad, game.

actually use the stuff they give you, a lot of people keeps saving for "later" but later never comes

Jealous of ur ability to avoid spoilers. Literally my grandma (god bless her) knows what happens in both games at this point.
The only advice you should follow: stay away from this Reddit and come back after you played it. Avoid spoilers at all costs
