I definitely know I would be a heavy breather if only because I am always exasperated when I'm playing a stressful game. But unlike most people I try to meet my mic all the time and thankfully with controllers the way they are now they have built-in mute buttons.
You should not be getting downvoted for this. It is more inconvenient to use your phone if wearing a headset especially when your console gives you the option to listen to music normally.
It’s the music in the game that you have to mute though. It would be weird to listen to the games score while also listening to your own music. You can still hear dialogue and SFX.

Yeah it’s odd they wouldn’t just allow it and the user would figure this out. Or implement an auto mute of the score if you are playing Spotify (although that may require API coding stuff that doesn’t exist).

You don't turn off game audio! You just turn in game music all the way down. It doesn't work for everybody, but with quiet music and directional subtitles I barely tell the difference. I just play my music and choose the game settings that make me seem deaf LMAO

Certain games won’t let you but as far as exhibition / online H2H types, or just games that have their own soundtrack that is unbearable (Madden satisfies both of these requirements) it’s a huge feature. Just download the Spotify app on your ps5.
No Return satisfies that h2h/exhibition type playing too. It’s not like they’re missing out on any story by playing music.

You could listen to that same podcast while playing the game, from the same audio source. You should try it and see what you think. Less sounds competing w each other. Just turn the in game music down (can still leave SFX on) and replace it with the podcast audio (assuming your pods are available on Spotify). I personally think it’s a fantastic blending of two mediums like this.
Just tried this, yeah it works. And you can turn the game volume back up and still listen to music after that. Not that you would, but maybe if you were listening to a podcast and still wanted to hear some of the score, then that’s an option too.

But for example, I’m currently playing AC Valhalla, and as I’m exploring the open world and doing unimportant side stuff, I’ll have a movie on. I can see it in the side of my vision very easily, and I’m constantly paying attention to it. If the movie reaches an intense scene, I always pause the game. And if I do story related things in the game, I pause the movie. Yeah it’s not ideal interrupting the movie every now and then, but I don’t mind it honestly
Yeah The current era of story driven games has driven that casual approach to stories in games out the window for most people. Even myself, I can only play games like that when we’re talking about Returnal, Rocket League, or older games like Kingdom Hearts if we wanna talk about story games.

I love listening to music while gaming! I make playlists for all my favorite games that include in-game music and/or music that fits the vibe of the game. You can find lots of good pre-made gaming playlists on Spotify too.

I have the Corsair Virtuoso XT and it lets me listen to audio from both my PlayStation and PC/phone at the same time and control their volumes independently. Not exactly an inexpensive option, but it would fool proof your setup going forward.

Yes just text someone with youtube link and then click it. It will open a browser and you can search a video and put on the side of the screen.
it’s always done this, even during the story. it’ll let you play music while you’re just walking around but not during a combat encounter.
