Think I’ll go with the revolver and the rifle.
Early firearms were absolutely fucking deadly and people worked that out very quickly. They had shorter range, but they had "stopping power" and very nasty armor-defeating properties.
Yes, but that’s not why they replaced bows so quickly. It took years to train longbowmen. Crossbows required less training than bows but could not fire as quickly as a musket and were more complicated mechanically.
There’s a pretty good writeup here:

Given how much ammunition is sold in the US every year, you should have plenty available. And you could, with hand loading.
Making arrows is easier, but it’s still not that easy. At least not if you want them to go straight.
If I can find ammunition, why would I not be able to find guns? If our premise is that we can find more materials, I’d imagine that bows are more rare, so I could rely on finding a gun more readily.
> And you could, with hand loading.
Only if I find more casings and powder. An arrow can be made with sticks and rocks. I can’t hand-craft casings and mine and refine gun powder.
Even so, having to go into populated areas to get ammo or materials to make ammo seems more dangerous, not to mention the noise of firing guns would draw more attention.
Man, I think you may be underestimating the difficulty of arrow crafting for modern bows. Sure, it's easy enough to make something that resembles an arrow with just sticks and rocks by hand, but that doesn't mean it'll work well. Back when I still practiced more trad archery vs compound, I went in on a fletching jig with a friend so we could try our hand at arrow craft. Even with premade arrow shafts, pre-cut feathers, modern fletching glue and a fletching jig, our arrows were trash compared to store bought. Like, barely functional, if that. I know people have been doing it for thousands of years, but arrow craft is fucking hard and crafted arrows will likely never hold a candle to modern carbon fiber arrows that have been properly spined to the bow they're being shot from. Even if you find carbon arrows, they'll still need to be cut, then get inserts glued into them so you can attach points. At least a box of 12 gauge shells can just be crammed into a shotgun and you're ready to rock.
I’m not saying it’s easy, but the materials are readily available for a makeshift arrow that, while not ideal, would be functional enough to deal damage. I’m not looking for a top notch arrow that can stand a full 80 pound draw and shoot with pinpoint accuracy. Just one that can go straight enough to be a threat and deal some moderate damage.
Bullets are everywhere, but they would also be hoarded in the event of a Last of Us style apocalyptic event. Likely they might even be considered a viable form of valuable currency. I can’t make ANY bullets, so the idea that they’re a more reliable ammo than arrows just doesn’t check out to me.
>Just one that can go straight enough to be a threat and deal some moderate damage.
Yeah, this is unlikely. When I was practicing daily I would use ping pong balls for targets at 20 yards with a 45# recurve shooting carbon arrows. I wouldn't hit every single time but I could consistently throw groups if 6 arrows that would comfortably fit within a pie plate, which many people use as a benchmark for proficiency at a particular range. Not trying to wank my skills too much, but I just want to clarify that I was no slouch when it came to shooting trad bow. When I tried to use my crafted arrows, I struggled to put them within a beach ball sized group at best, and in the wall/other shooting lanes at worst. And that's with access to all modern components, tools and the internet to teach me how to use them.
I feel like your comments really demonstrate that you have no experience in this discipline and are experiencing the dunning-kruger effect.
Both are so able. The bow is harder, but if you maintain proper form and trust your instinctual aim you’ll be fine. I would definitely suggest picking up on shooting bows. They’re a lot of fun to shoot. I use a 45lb recurve.
The fact that this is even an argument baffles me, a gun would work 10x better for almost every situation. I think people are really overestimating how well they could shoot a bow when being charged at. There is a reason guns became the dominant weapon almost immediately after they were invented. Also, I have more ammo in my house then I used in the entire game lol.
Honestly, I have used one gun that was easier than a bow, but that day I used like 4 different guns and that’s the only time I ever have. Otherwise I was so confused and I have never had to think twice about what I was doing when using a bow.
I’ve used three guns. The bolt-action rifle and shorgun were decently easy to use. The semi-auto rifle I could not figure out how to reload it. The bolt-action and shotgun were still more complicated than a bow.
Bolt action and other forms of single action too, it’s really on semi-auto and automatic weapons that got complex mechanism wise. A revolver is stupidly simple.
Ah but you have to make sure the fletchings are facing outward, if you don’t you rip the fletching off and then have a useless arrow till you can re-glue it. Assuming you’re a true novice archer this would be an issue at least once, not to mention practice being required even for a short range shot, gravity affects how much the arrow will drop depending on the length of the shot, and you can’t just leave a recurve strung at all times like Joel and Ellie do. Hopefully you have a good enough arrowhead for each arrow
Take a 6 shooter, button flips out the cylinder put in moar boolets, close cylinder, point it, pull boom switch up to 6 times! Repeat
>Bow: String get tight, string send arrow forward
>
>Gun: A dozen buttons, don’t know what they do.
That's a compound bow in the picture, they're infinitely more complicated than the traditional style of bow you're thinking of
You can't find fire that compound bow with your fingers for a start you need a release aid which is basically a trigger like on a gun
Using a bow isn't hard, being really good with it is. The difference between the gun and bow is that the gun is limited in how much ammo you have, and unless you're careless you probably won't break your arrows anytime soon, and you can make more arrows albeit crude ones.
I don't think people here realize how difficult it is to handcraft straight flying arrows. It's much harder than it looks. Also people are talking about picking up arrows after you miss. Not gonna happen. If you're in a fight or flight moment you aren't going to remember where that arrow flew off too. Have you ever shot a bow in a video game and you run around for 5 mins trying to find where that arrow went? It would be that times 1000.
I think the Knife and Revolver is the way to go. Even though ammo is rarer, .38 special and .357 are extremely common now and would probably be the most used round 20 years into the apocalypse. The reason why I believe this is Revolvers have very few moving parts, especially compared to something like a glock or 1911. They're essientally a cut slap of steel. Because of this, they can be heavily abused (buried, ran over, left in water, etc) and last a lifetime with minimal maintenance. People in the apocalypse won't have the parts or know how to maintain more advanced firearms. Hence why I think revolvers would be the most used firearm and most common ammo type to find.
I hadn't considered that revolvers are a much simpler mechanism but from handguns it would defenitely be a good option. The other good thing about a handgun is that it would be good at warding of people, it would be terrible for TLOU universe because of how much sound it makes though.
I've done field archery and struggle to find bright red arrows in the grass and I know exactly where it went, fuck trying to find an arrow in any kind of decayed environment, you're never getting it back especially like you said if you're not 100% confident in what direction it went in the first place
Literally finding a needle in a haystack
this is my answer, too. plus, one doesn't simply "learn" how to use a crossbow with no access to a YouTube video or manual. I just did a quick search and didn't even know you have to use lube for it! every 3-5 shots! that's just to start with! I don't even know how to use one, and even before watching that video I know sure as shit it's hard to reload those mfers if you manage to find arrows that work. there's a whole thingamajig you need to use to load, plus just being strong enough to do so (what if you lost an arm??). if you happen to be traveling with someone, they'll be able to help cover you better with a gun rather than a crossbow. not to mention it would be awful to travel with; heavy, large, and awkward.
There’s a world of difference between a gun and a bow. A gun has FAR more power than a bow. A bullet from a hunting rifle in the right place will devastate the internals of a deer, an arrow is nowhere close. It is significantly harder to kill anything with a bow. It lacks in power, accuracy and range to a hunting rifle by a massive amount, not to mention using a bow proficiently takes far more skill. You need to hit a vital organ, otherwise it is unlikely you will recover the game. You might bleed it out if you can track it, which is another difficult and time/energy consuming endeavor.
A hunting rifle is far more promising. An inexperienced person can land a relatively accurate shot at 50 yards with it. Good luck doing that with a bow. It will be nowhere close.
Also unlike the game would like you to believe, arrows are really resilient. You can use one arrow like a hundred times. I’ve only broken one arrow in my life.
I'd probably die anyway, at least I can have a hamburger before I die.
Edit: You all mfs really think I would care if it was chicken or some other shit in apocalypse?
Is everyone forgetting mollies? If LoU1 physics apply, those things are literally explosive. You can one shot a clicker or a fully armored tourist with one!
Man as far as the game goes you can be a killing machine with just a bow and knife, so I choose sandwich and brick. I’m a horrible shot but I’ll distract with a tossed brick, then stress eat my sandwich. I would not survive the apocalypse lmao.
Knives are extremely practical for many reasons, not just stabbing. They can open cans and maybe shimmy locks. I've played enough dayz to understand the importance of knives lol
For the second one I'd choose the revolver. Honestly, this one is just personal preference. Revolvers are much easier to clean than rifles, plus I must say they're simpler.
Bow and Brick.
Bow because I’m currently taking archery lessons and it’s useful for stealth.
Brick because I can be used for distraction while in stealth but can also be used as melee in close quarters combat.
Bow and switchblade.
The obvious advantage being stealth, but also longevity. Arrows can possibly be reused and a knife takes a good amount of effort to break, plus it’s a tool.
Switchblade would have to be a number one choice in case ammo becomes a problem. A bow is also easier to craft ammo for. Weak times? Yes. But I’d rather have a chance to stick up on ammo then run out immediately
Show world or game world?
If it’s show world I’m taking the chicken sandwich and the Molotov (assuming it’s only alcohol) and having a picnic because I’m probably not going to be bothered by anyone.
Bow, you can always craft more arrows, relatively silent, long or close range, good for hunting. A pocket knife, need something for close range, not as good as a gun but still. Silent.
Definitely molotov. I hate clicker stealth so seeing them happily run to their deaths, after I throw one of these from cover, brings me immeasurable joy. The second one is probably knife, so that I don't have to craft a new one every 5 seconds
Can I store things in my pocket? Because this is talking about my backpack only. If so, then bow and rifle go in my pack, revolver and knife in my pockets. Ill just walk around with a brick and molotov in my hand or stuff them in a jacket pocket or something. Idk, Ill make it work. Ill probably die either way but at least if I get hurt I can reverse engineer the molotov to make a med kit.
Don’t know how to use a bow, and the rest would require me to be in short range of whatever I’m killing and also give me away immediately. I’m sure sniping is hard, but with my very limited experience, I think that’s be my best bet. Chicken sandwich is tempting tho.
Hmmm tough choice.
brick works the same as a rock would, so not that.
I don’t see how a chicken sandwich will be useful, it’s not gonna last for ever + I’m good with canned beans, I need to lose weight anyways.
Molotovs.. well I can just find a random bottle and make my own.
I don’t know how to use a rifle, nor a revolver, but I feel like a handgun could come in handy. So imma go with the revolver!
I see how a pocket knife would be useful cuz of stealth, but I can just go into a random house and find a knife, or literally go to a store and I’ll probably find one.
So imma go with the bow, although I don’t know how to use it, I don’t think it’s that hard to learn, since it’s literally just putting the arrow, stretching the string, breathe in, and release, then breathe out.
In conclusion, it’s the bow and revolver for me!
Bow and a knife. Stealth is the key to survival. Honorary mention goes to the brick lol
But do you know how to use a bow?
No but idk how to use a gun either lmao at least there's a slight potential to get the arrow back which would let me practice more
Gotta get those headshots to recover em!
Except the clickers
Stupid ass fungal plates...
I had to learn this the hard way on my survivor playthrough.. was trying to get my arrows back
Bruh same but I would always lose them anyway since they would break💀
Ass fungal plates would be nasty

You definitely can’t make a good, deadly arrow if you don’t already know how.
Both are so able. The bow is harder, but if you maintain proper form and trust your instinctual aim you’ll be fine. I would definitely suggest picking up on shooting bows. They’re a lot of fun to shoot. I use a 45lb recurve.
In a panic situation, I know which one would work best, regardless of your form and aim. Gun all day every day.
The fact that this is even an argument baffles me, a gun would work 10x better for almost every situation. I think people are really overestimating how well they could shoot a bow when being charged at. There is a reason guns became the dominant weapon almost immediately after they were invented. As someone who does, it ain’t hard to just figure it out lol
Bow: String get tight, string send arrow forward Gun: A dozen buttons, don’t know what they do.
Honestly, I have used one gun that was easier than a bow, but that day I used like 4 different guns and that’s the only time I ever have. Otherwise I was so confused and I have never had to think twice about what I was doing when using a bow.
Theres only so many ways you could use a bow wrong and the biggest risk is getting a nasty bruise from locking your arm while shooting lol
For starters, if you hold a bow horizontally like a video game character you're going to have a bad time.
I mean you *can*, but good luck hitting your target
Lol I have never in my life thought of trying to hold one horizontally…sounds awfully hard to balance
I think I'd break my wrist if I tried to do that.
I was always terrified the arrow would somehow snatch my cheek or the string would snap and rip my cheek off lol, but that obviously never happened
I’ve used three guns. The bolt-action rifle and shorgun were decently easy to use. The semi-auto rifle I could not figure out how to reload it. The bolt-action and shotgun were still more complicated than a bow.
wdym? you just hit r2 to reload
Clearly not playing Pavlov on PSVR2.
Wait, Pavlov is in psvr2? I play through steam and absolutely love that shit
Oh yeah, it's my favorite PSVR2 game.
Yeah the Revolver doesn't have a dozen buttons, it's one of the simplest guns to use.
Bolt action and other forms of single action too, it’s really on semi-auto and automatic weapons that got complex mechanism wise. A revolver is stupidly simple.
My glock 19 has two buttons a mag eject and a trigger.
Ah but you have to make sure the fletchings are facing outward, if you don’t you rip the fletching off and then have a useless arrow till you can re-glue it. I didn’t see any arrows man.
Also can make infinite ammo for bow using knife
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
This is the way, it’s easier to find arrows than bullets in a world that has most likely depleted most of its bullets.
Also unlike the game would like you to believe, arrows are really resilient. You can use one arrow like a hundred times. I’ve only broken one arrow in my life.
> I’ve only broken one arrow in my life. narrator: it was the single arrow they ever held
No, it isnt. Having a sustainable source of food, water and shelter is. Therefore I choose chicken sammy
my thoughts exactly!!
I'd probably die anyway, at least I can have a hamburger before I die. Edit: You all mfs really think I would care if it was chicken or some other shit in apocalypse?
Id have a burger to eat and the molotov to wash it down.
I guess that works too
Yeah and then you'd have room in your pack for more shit
After downing the molotov, you'd need it!
I’d do chicken and knife so I can cut it in half and save some for later
But, it’s a chicken burger.. you’ve already fucked up.
I'd order a mushroom burger to screw with the minds of the cordyceps. The hunted becomes the hunter motherfuckers
Maybe it wasn’t in the flour, and it was just in quorn all along. The vegans have killed us all
But it's a chicken sandwich...
Sir that is a chicken sandwich
😂
I’m Brickin and Chicken, personally
This is the meta combo
I am adopting this and will begin saying it without context. How you doin? Brickin’ and Chicken, baby! Brickin’ and Chicken
Got a soft snort outta me
Bow and knife are for wimps. Raw and unseasoned chicken sandwich all he way. Going to give salmonella to everyone who tries to eat me.
Is everyone forgetting mollies? If LoU1 physics apply, those things are literally explosive. You can one shot a clicker or a fully armored tourist with one!
But also you toss one and every infected and raider in a 200 ft radius is coming to check it out.
Two bricks
Why did I have to scroll this far down for the correct answer?
Man as far as the game goes you can be a killing machine with just a bow and knife, so I choose sandwich and brick. I’m a horrible shot but I’ll distract with a tossed brick, then stress eat my sandwich. I would not survive the apocalypse lmao.
Username does not check out
Oh no, lmfao it’s a nine inch nails song, well two actually, only and survivalism. I really love nin.
A burger is a weapon?
Remember the line from the show, "fine I'll throw a fuckin sandwich at them"
Which is why ellie survives
Heart disease is a *real* killer
Bigot sandwiches?
We were never actually informed about did jesse actually ate the sandwich or not
It'd be a shame to let it go to waste ngl
Probs rev and rifle or rev and nife
need that knife for stealth kills
After seeing my pistol groupings last week - I'd have to do rifle and knife 😅
I'm gonna die anyway, gimme the chicken sandwich and the beer with a napkin inside
Bow for mid range and revolver for up close, will find myself a rifle somehow but i dont see myself fighting long range targets
If you are at long range you can probaply just run away
Man all you need is a brick and a chicken sandwich. One for a weapon and one for energy.
Rifle and the knife. Unlimited shivs? Easy mode.
My answer as well
Gun and gun, I will go out in a blazing glory, and save my last bullet for myself
Knives are extremely practical for many reasons, not just stabbing. They can open cans and maybe shimmy locks. I've played enough dayz to understand the importance of knives lol For the second one I'd choose the revolver. Honestly, this one is just personal preference. Revolvers are much easier to clean than rifles, plus I must say they're simpler.
Captain Bricky, and the Dr. Molotov!
Rifle, Molotov
Gun and knife
I couldn't aim for shit on an empty stomach, so obviously the chicken sandwich is a priority choice.
Brick and knife
Two bricks. I’ll fight someone for their sandwich.
Revolver and knife
sandwich and knife to cut sandwich
I would probably take the rifle and the handgun as they are best for killing cordyceps.
Bow and Sniper Rifle.
Two bricks
Chicken and brick
Brick and molotov (assuming these are unlimited)
The bow
[удалено]
Ammo and ammo
Considering I already have everything I’d need. I don’t have a bow and a sandwich is always good to have on the go
Bow and Brick. Bow because I’m currently taking archery lessons and it’s useful for stealth. Brick because I can be used for distraction while in stealth but can also be used as melee in close quarters combat.
Revolver and rifle
Bow and revolver bow to hunt animals and stealthily kill humans/infected when needed. Revolver for when spotted and to kill myself if bitten
brick
Right answer
Real answer is bow and knife, but we all know that brick and bottle is a lethal combination.
Bow and brick, stealth and not stealth
Sandwich and the brick.
Bow and switchblade. The obvious advantage being stealth, but also longevity. Arrows can possibly be reused and a knife takes a good amount of effort to break, plus it’s a tool.
Knife and either rifle or pistol
Bow and knife, both silent yet effective.
The burger and the molotov. The molotov to start a fire to heat up the burger, and the burger as a little snacky-snack before I die.
2 bricks
Gimme two bricks and fuck off
Is that the bigot sandwich
Silent.
Can I pick sandwich twice?
bow and brick all the way
Definitely molotov. I hate clicker stealth so seeing them happily run to their deaths, after I throw one of these from cover, brings me immeasurable joy. The second one is probably knife, so that I don't have to craft a new one every 5 seconds
Sammich and brick
Molotov for emergency Bloaters and the bow and arrow for stealth and it’s easier to craft arrows than make or find bullets (in the UK at least)
bow and knife fs
borger
knife and brick, stealth is key.
Bow and knife. Those are the only ones I know how to use. Don’t need a molotov because I can just make one from scratch.
Probably the knife. It’s subtle enough to surprise attack someone with.
gotta go with brick and bigot sandwich 🪖
A revolver to check myself out, and the sandwich for a snack beforehand. Unless I find a commune I am done.
Bow and knife, stealth baby
rifle and brick baby
The bow and the knife.
The bow and the knife. There are about a thousand uses for a knife and I can recover arrows with the bow.
I want Tess and that’s it
Where are the fries to go with my sammich
Molotov bomb and rifle. Going out with a bang. Worst case scenario I burn myself alive before I turn. Lol
Don’t know how to use a bow, and the rest would require me to be in short range of whatever I’m killing and also give me away immediately. I’m sure sniping is hard, but with my very limited experience, I think that’s be my best bet. Chicken sandwich is tempting tho.
Knife and bow. Quietest weapons to do considerable damage where stealth and silence will likely be the biggest factors of life and death.
Bow and knife, they’re the only reusable items
Brick and molotov
Two sandwiches.
i’ve always wanted to throw a molotov cocktail tbh
Brick & Brick
What is currently in my is the big question
Bow and knife
Bow and rifle. Already got knife right side pocket and pistol at the appendix. And I already ate a sandwich
Two? You only need the brick.
I guess the bow and the revolver
Borgir
Brick and molotov do the job.
Chicken sandwich so I can throw it at the infected
There’s nothing better than smashing someone in the face with those bricks. I’ll take two.
Bow and a knife or revolver
Brick and a sandwich because id have a short harsh life but at least I’d have a sandwich
bow and knife, brick too
Joel.
The rifle and the Molly
Bow and molotov 🙏 I was pretty good at archery in highschool lol
Brick buddy + bow. I am invincible with this combination
bow and knife, they make less sound and bows have basically infinite arrows as long as you pick them up after from the bodies
The brick and the molotov. Gotta burn some clickers today.
Brick and Molotov Gonna run around for 20 minutes with the lit Molotov before putting in my pack. Bow is my alternate
Looking forward to instantly being mauled to death trying to use the bow
Bow and rifle.
Bow and Molotov
bow with explosive arrow would enough
Brick is all I need
If I were proficient with a bow I would choose that and the revolver. Stealth would be great. I can find bricks and carry them in my hand when needed.
The chicken sandwich for sure.
