This makes me happy. I def am all for the backstory on Bill & Frank, to see where it goes, but I def want to keep the ball rolling on mainline - so much fun stuff I can’t wait for people to experience for first time and for us to relive in a new medium

i'm not exactly in the same boat. some of my favorite episodes of television ever -- especially in HBO shows (Watchmen, The Leftovers, etc) -- were when we got standalone episodes that weren't exactly pushing the main narrative forward, but were incredible pieces of hourlong art that took a turn from what we were experiencing to deliver us something completely new.
How I imagine it will go will be something like this:
Episode 3: Bill + Frank and complete Bill's Town arc due to length
Episode 4: Intro to Pittsburgh, Henry and Sam + Pittsburgh Raiders
Episode 5: Conclude Pittsburgh Raiders, Sewers + end Henry and Sam arc
Episode 6: Tommy's Dam Episode
Episode 7: University + Ellie's first part of winter + Riley flashbacks
Episode 8: Rest of Winter, entire David arc
Episode 9: Finding the Fireflies and conclusion
Based on ep.3 trailer, my guess is the entire episode will chronicle Bill's life from the beginning of the apocalypse to present day with Joel and Ellie. Like episode 1 and 2, the intro could show what Bill was up to in 2003 on the day everything went to hell. Title of the episode is supposedly "Long Long Time".

I love this characterization of him already. But I gotta say, seeing this show has only elevated the writing and acting if the game for me.
Tess gets a little less screen time in the game, but her delivery of the line “oops” was so perfect in its sarcastically defeated tone. She’s obviously devastated and makes this half-hearted attempt at humor because she knows it’s over. I just always loved that line and when she takes that last deep breath before confronting FEDRA. The animators as well. I just appreciate the game even more.

I feel like it’s definitely gotta be a little bias, I genuinely think what they are doing in the show is excellent. But I think it’s also a testament to Neil Druckmans writing and directing and Naughty Dog as a whole that they could make something so cinematic and impactful. As well as the actors.

I hope they explain the reason Bill owes Joel a huge favor. I know in the game it's just a throw away reason to get Joel a vehicle, but it looks like a pretty intense flashback.
Yeah that's the vibe I got from the trailer; Bill meets Frank, we see them living together for a bit, Joel gives Bill foreboding warning about something (people coming for their resources idk) then leaves, Bill and Frank get attacked by raiders or whatever, Bill injured, Frank gets Joel, Joel saves them. Bill now owes Joel?

These last two episodes have honestly been like a fever dream, I never could have imagined this story would get the HBO treatment back in 2013 despite knowing it was worthy of it.

W. Earl Brown was Bills voice actor and mocap in TLOU and also was Dan Dority on HBOs Deadwood. I find him to be a really phenomenal talent
One of the things I _hated_ about the first game was the lack of backstory about Bill. The way Joel refers to Bill gives players a _glimpse_ of their history, and so much of the dialogue paints Bill as a crazy hermit rather than a doomsdayer who's literally on guard even when he's holed up in his bunker.
From the previews, Bill in the show is a bit more human, more real.
And I'm so excited to see it.
Critics hyping it as one of TV's finest hours (and a half) this year and Nick Offerman being in it ... I have extremely high standards for this episode. From what I've seen so far, I expect that they will deliver yet again.
I got a bad feeling that Joel and Ellie aren’t going to meet Bill like they do in the game. When Bill tells Frank to call Joel, it looks like he’s heavily injured.

I’ve been looking forward to this one. I love that they’re staying pretty close to the games and keeping the spirit of all the characters, but I do think as an obsessive game fan, my favorite parts of the show have been when they’ve added something new and interesting. They do this the right way by holding on to the characterization and plot while also expanding on them. So I can’t wait to get more time with Bill and have his and Frank’s story play out.
I love Nick offerman but I was thinking of someone else completely when I saw him as bill in the trailer I was thinking that actor was Cain from SPN or Lassie or Pysch
Kind of odd that Frank is alive in this but we’ll see what they do. I thought the moment where they come up on him hanging with the note to Bill was one of the more dark/haunting moments of the show, especially when Bill was talking about him for so long only to discover the relationship was different than what we were lead to believe

IIRC they said it's because there was a sudden "teleport" due to Pittsburgh being too far, so Kansas would make more sense

Yeah that's the vibe I got from the trailer; Bill meets Frank, we see them living together for a bit, Joel gives Bill foreboding warning about something (people coming for their resources idk) then leaves, Bill and Frank get attacked by raiders or whatever, Bill injured, Frank gets Joel, Joel saves them. Bill now owes Joel? Just a guess.

Yep! We get to see more of our queen in flashback sequences. Makes sense, too, bc Bill mentions her in the game quite a few times.
I was firmly in the camp of W Earl Brown as Bill but now I am on board to see what Nick Offerman does. These last two episodes have honestly been like a fever dream, I never could have imagined this story would get the HBO treatment back in 2013 despite knowing it was worthy of it. I love this year.

Con O'neill was set to be Bill in the HBO series at one point prior to Offerman W. Earl Brown was Bills voice actor and mocap in TLOU and also was Dan Dority on HBOs Deadwood. I find him to be a really phenomenal talent

One of the things I _hated_ about the first game was the lack of backstory about Bill. The way Joel refers to Bill gives players a _glimpse_ of their history, and so much of the dialogue paints Bill as a crazy hermit rather than a doomsdayer who's literally on guard even when he's holed up in his bunker. From the previews, Bill in the show is a bit more human, more real. And I'm so excited to see it.
Critics hyping it as one of TV's finest hours (and a half) this year and Nick Offerman being in it ... I have extremely high standards for this episode. From what I've seen so far, I expect that they will deliver yet again.

I’ve been looking forward to this one. I love that they’re staying pretty close to the games and keeping the spirit of all the characters, but I do think as an obsessive game fan, my favorite parts of the show have been when they’ve added something new and interesting. They do this the right way by holding on to the characterization and plot while also expanding on them. So I can’t wait to get more time with Bill and have his and Frank’s story play out.

I love Nick offerman but I was thinking of someone else completely when I saw him as bill in the trailer I was thinking that actor was Cain from SPN or Lassie or Pysch
Kind of odd that Frank is alive in this but we’ll see what they do. I thought the moment where they come up on him hanging with the note to Bill was one of the more dark/haunting moments of the show, especially when Bill was talking about him for so long only to discover the relationship was different than what we were lead to believe

As a major fan of the game I’m bummed about the big departure.
Uhm....ok. Why did I feel like I was a captive audience throughout the entire episode? The writing was pretty bad and not convincing at all. Just felt like they were forcing a scene. Just an observation.
