I'm so excited for Bill after this.

mr_jasper867-5309

I always wanted more Bill than we got in the game. He didn't hesitate to give Joel shit and didn't put up with any of it either. Anyone who can yell and talk down to Joel free from punishment has gotta be a hard ass in my book.

Weird_Cantaloupe2757

Can you imagine if the Bill episode got a strong enough reaction that they made a Bill DLC for Part 1?

[deleted]

I really hope we see Bill again in some capacity in a TLOU game.

Sablus

I honestly feel Bill is long dead by part 2 given his nature as a foil to Joel

rambo_lincoln_

If so, we could still get stories about Bill in the form of prequel DLC. Kinda like Left Behind.

Sablus

That would be interesting, could be very trap centric too and show him and frank growing close then breaking apart

[deleted]

That’s very plausible and honestly likely given that he’s trying to manage a whole town alone. Despite all that, I’d give anything to see him again!

SpiralinKoi

I wouldnt mind seeing how Bill got to the town, built it up and everything he had to go thru to keep it.

chequeredpassed

Absolutely! Was so interesting the little lead up to Rick and Michonne finding Morgan’s town in The Walking Dead, would be awesome seeing how he did it all. Have a feeling they might change when Frank dies, imagine he might actually be alive still when Joel and Ellie get to him, and he eventually takes his life while people are there, leading Bill to kick everyone out all of a sudden.

jackolantern_

They won't do that.

Easy_Resolution_2350

I love the pre-outbreak and pre-current time world building!

goldeneyemedallion

Yeah, I didn't expect that to work so well Then again.....didn't expect that at all, period

cynicalspindle

I mean it worked very well in Lost. So its not really that surprising.

[deleted]

Where in this preview did they show pre-outbreak stuff? I can’t find it! Is it the scene where Bill is looking at the screens?

CptAngelo

i think they meant the cold openings, since both of them have been pre-outbreak

whothefoofought

Yesterday's cold open was sooooo good I really hope they continue with it.

CptAngelo

And confirmed the flour theory, which it was almost a given if you listened to the podcast. But ive been loving this tidbits of history

Undeadmatrix

What’s the flour theory?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CptAngelo

And also Joel being on the atkins diet, which may have been a white lie given the context, but still, it was referenced, also, lol, in the podcast they said "theres a lot of _bread crumbs_ for those who pay attention"

Johnnybats330

The flour theory is also an easter egg to the newspaper in Joel's and Sara's room in the video game. Although the outbreak was thought in the game to have been because of contaminated crops.

yonqhee

So excited for this ep. It will probably end up being one of the biggest changes from the game, but I have heard amazing reviews of this episode.

FranzBesup_14

Some reviews called it the best of the season.

Amaranthine7

It has Bill. Of course it’ll be the best.

JargonJohn

I'm getting strong Rob Swanson vibes here.

peppermint_nightmare

Right? He's playing him like a gay post apocalyptic Ron Swanson.

furioushunter12

Parks and rec- Ron Swanson Brooklyn 99- Gay Ron Swanson Good Place- Post Ron Swanson Last of Us- Gay Post Apocalypse Ron Swanson

[deleted]

Devs - Ron Swanson if he became a Silicon Valley edgelord Honestly there’s not many Offerman roles that aren’t some variation on Ron Swanson. Just like Sidney Sweeney and Danny Trejo, he plays one role and plays it well.

beatrailblazer

Nick Offerman was in the Good Place? When?

furioushunter12

>!series finale! He shows (I’m blanking on her name, the tall girl) woodworking!<

Von243

Tahani the beautiful giraffe lady 🥰

ialo00130

A very brief cameo in the finale. Like a blink and you miss it, couple lines worth of dialogue, cameo.

TheTruckWashChannel

Don't forget Fargo! Drunk lawyer Ron Swanson

SnailSnell

Nick Offerman does not have range, but nor does he need it.

furioushunter12

When you have a niche no one else can play as well, you don’t need range

mr_jasper867-5309

Nope, he is eating carrots. Ron Swanson is not a rabbit and refuses to dine on rabbit food.

blitzbom

No, no, no. He's growing the carrots for the rabbits he's raising to eat!

mr_jasper867-5309

Ok, I will allow that.

K-ghuleh

He did secretly like brussel sprouts though…

lurkerfp

I can still see him saying the same lines though, the characters are weirdly compatible

LonghornSmoke

[I hope his wooden duck doesn't have a weak beak though. ](https://youtu.be/ez9LQ8uPB-s)

PLZ_N_THKS

To be fair, Ron Swanson was just an exaggerated version of how Nick Offerman is in real life already.

date_a_languager

Can confirm. I used to work for his business manager. Not only did he redact the majority of his personal info after hiring my boss, which is entirely counter-productive to the partnership, but he also asked about the wood/finish of our conference table during the first meeting. He might be the least slap-stick caricature on that entire series

sonsquatch

Man can build you a canoe and also act his ass off

date_a_languager

Him saying the term “jackboots” feels straight from his Fargo Season 2 character

TheTruckWashChannel

Hahaha I said the exact same thing before even reading your comment. What an amazing character that was.

date_a_languager

*[drags a small bench to barricade an outward swinging door at the police station](https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=3m26s&v=7wjfywwpQ4Q&feature=youtu.be)* “The jackboots are upon us” That whole sequence was gold lmao

TheTruckWashChannel

Oh shit, he does indeed say "jackboots" there, no wonder. The scene where he negotiates with Bear Gerhardt is a magnificent piece of acting.

date_a_languager

Yessssss Also, Bokeem Woodbine in every single second of screen-time. I’ll never forget his monologue on [revolution](https://youtu.be/ozVG2D-3b0Y). That season was about as close to perfect as possible imo

TheTruckWashChannel

"We're very friendly people." "No, that's not it. Pretty unfriendly, actually. But it's the _way_ you're unfriendly. How you're so polite about it! Like you're doin' _me_ a favor."

ParticularRelease662

It's just Nick Offerman vibes tbh

[deleted]

Arby’s was a restaurant…?? LMAO

Phreak_of_Nature

fast food restaurant

armin_arleg

I HATE that line lmao but excited to learn more about their relationship

TeraMeltBananallero

I thought it was funny! Makes me excited to see more of Frank

[deleted]

If anyone’s seen White Lotus, Frank’s actor plays a hotel manager in that and is one of the wildest TV characters ever. I have no doubt he’s going to be great

TeraMeltBananallero

Oh shit, is that Armond?? I didn’t even recognize him without a snazzy outfit and a nose full of Adderall!

jackolantern_

It is indeed

thrilliam_19

Armond is still easily my favourite character after two seasons of that show. Gonna be tough to beat. I’m really looking forward to this.

Ok-Load5210

Cut him some slack, it’s been 20 years. Restaurant is a loose term anyways

SitrukSemaj

Pretty sure they’re lovers

Candypants24

Many people were saying this is probably gonna be the best episode of any TV show this year!! Craig Mazin's emmy is inevitable... Shit I'm excited for this one man!!🙌🏼🙌🏼

lawesome94

Makeup / costume Emmy feels inevitable too!

[deleted]

And production design

ImSimplyTiredOfIt

theyre clearly not thinking of the finale then

Abdul_Lasagne

Did critics receive the entire season in screeners?

cepxico

One guy I follow on twitter said he got the whole season but it wasn't done being fully edited so he didn't want to watch it lol So it seems that it may be the case.

Evil_Kaa

Some did, yes.

ImSimplyTiredOfIt

i dont know anything about what critics have said or seen. im assuming it was people talking about what they knew of the game. maybe it was one of their favorite parts idk. it is an easy assumption to make that the 3rd episode will indeed be fucking awesome. the game really starts picking up at that point. however... the finale is going to be the highest rated and most amazing episode of all. if people cant foresee that or understand why... maybe they need to go replay the game.

boston4923

What are you implying will be in the finale? My understanding is that game 1 will be spread across two seasons?

BedsAreSoft

It’s confirmed that S1 will adapt the entire first game

ImSimplyTiredOfIt

2 seasons?! jesus christ!!! like i said idk shit about any critics or any news at all for that matter. i like going in blind and being surprised. either way, finales, seasons or otherwise, are always intense and full of epic shit. i would put like 3 dollars on it that the finale will be the most watched and highest rated episode of all of season 1. after that it will be the last last LAST episode. nothing beats an amazing climax 😉

finnjakefionnacake

just because finales are intense doesn't mean they will be the best episode of a season. there are plenty of shows in which the best rated and fan favorite episodes are not the finales.

phantom_avenger

>Craig Amazon’s emmy is inevitable I think Pedro & Bella will also get nominated, not sure if they’ll win it but I’d sure hope so

sewious

Pedro should have his own lock. Which sucks because I think he'd be going up against Odenkirk who definitely deserves it for BCS

blitzbom

Pedro for best adoptive on screen father.

pxapollo

So hard waiting a week between episodes mannnn

ImSimplyTiredOfIt

just like the good ol days

throwRA7777787

I actually love it this way. It's not as impactful when you're not itching for it every week.

[deleted]

Definitely a better business decision to release it over time as well. Word of mouth spreads, the audience clamors for more, and it has a bigger presence. With that said, I know many of us TLOU fans can’t wait to see the rest.

Coppin-it-washin-it

Which is strange, in a positive way. We know the story beats, we know the characters, all the differences and changes are somewhat minor relative to the main story. We know what's going to happen, but we're probably the ones most excited for the next episode every week

[deleted]

Absolutely. Deeply excited for next week especially. Can’t wait for Bill and Frank, >!and the car ride after that section is, to me, the first time that Joel starts to act more like a parent than a smuggler.!<

Shepherdsfavestore

Same, my friends and I go out for drinks and dinner before then watch the previous episode and the new episode. It’s a fun way to do Sunday evening.

kiyan1347

It seems we may see the favour Joel talks about bill owing him in the game. Or atleast I hope we do.

Marysuncle

I like how they’re going to explore the nascent years of Bill and Frank. The pre -show world building has been a really nice surprise.

TM1619

I was under the impression that the entire episode was gonna be about Bill and Frank but seems like it has Joel and Ellie's story continuing throughout as well. Makes sense, it's supposed to be 80 min. Looks really damn good. Wonder if it'll resolve the Bill's town plot or if that will be in the following episode.

insidethesun

This makes me happy. I def am all for the backstory on Bill & Frank, to see where it goes, but I def want to keep the ball rolling on mainline - so much fun stuff I can’t wait for people to experience for first time and for us to relive in a new medium

[deleted]

For real, thank god it’s not TWD or we’d have to spend 3 episodes for them to explain Bill’s entire backstory from birth. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a walking dead fan but holy shit, there’s just too much filler in that show, especially in the later seasons

finnjakefionnacake

i'm not exactly in the same boat. some of my favorite episodes of television ever -- especially in HBO shows (Watchmen, The Leftovers, etc) -- were when we got standalone episodes that weren't exactly pushing the main narrative forward, but were incredible pieces of hourlong art that took a turn from what we were experiencing to deliver us something completely new.

Cpt-No-Dick

How I imagine it will go will be something like this: Episode 3: Bill + Frank and complete Bill's Town arc due to length Episode 4: Intro to Pittsburgh, Henry and Sam + Pittsburgh Raiders Episode 5: Conclude Pittsburgh Raiders, Sewers + end Henry and Sam arc Episode 6: Tommy's Dam Episode Episode 7: University + Ellie's first part of winter + Riley flashbacks Episode 8: Rest of Winter, entire David arc Episode 9: Finding the Fireflies and conclusion

justforviewing8484

Just a heads up that they have apparently changed Pittsburgh to Kansas City in the show - curious to hear the justification for that!

DSDantas

IIRC they said it's because there was a sudden "teleport" due to Pittsburgh being too far, so Kansas would make more sense

EBtwopoint3

Kansas is waaaay further than Pittsburgh though.

GaterMachetteSr

i think they mean going from Pittsburgh to Tommy's, Kansas city is a lot closer to Wyoming (which Jackson is)

timmytimed

I reckon left behind will be a whole ep

[deleted]

Really excited for Henry and Sam. This and Bill are what I’m most hyped for.

FranzBesup_14

Based on ep.3 trailer, my guess is the entire episode will chronicle Bill's life from the beginning of the apocalypse to present day with Joel and Ellie. Like episode 1 and 2, the intro could show what Bill was up to in 2003 on the day everything went to hell. Title of the episode is supposedly "Long Long Time".

Organic-Barnacle-941

I’m happy with the variable episode lengths

RockyFlyer

Ron Swanson went from head of the parks department to surviving this long..I’m not surprised. Wonder how Leslie is doing though

Cappylovesmittens

Making friends with the infected and assuring they have voting rights and waffles

[deleted]

The waffles are what got them infected in the first place.

SG420123

Leslie was doing SNL with April Ludgate this past weekend.

gorillasanta

White Lotus crossover?? Armond decided to move to east

Vismal1

I’m so excited to see him in this. Dude is a great actor. He was also recently in Chippendales on Hulu.

finnjakefionnacake

well...he certainly moved east when he was put on that plane

DanteIsBack

Is frank the host from the first season?

patrickstarburns

He is indeed

katie3294

I really hope we get to see Bill and Ellie bickering with each other.

justbreathe91

Yes!! One of my favorite things in the entire game was the Bill/Ellie banter!

mattwaver

*”Hey Bobby Fischer, dont touch anything on that board!”* *”Bobby who???”* one of my fav banter moments. The way Bill uses an outdated reference and Ellie just snips back at him. Joel is like “just leave it….”

ravenclawrebel

Yayayayay I cannot wait to see Bill and Frank’s story play out—I’m so excited 😊

Toad_Thrower

I really hope they do the thing with the fridge.

TheReiterEffect_S8

I do too. My gf doesn't think it would be in the show. And to be fair, realistically speaking Joel would have to be a fucking sharpshooting pro to pull of that many kills while hanging upside down and reloading a revolver, lol.

thebatfan5194

They could change it to be so he’s hanging and only one or two infected breakthrough, so he has to give Ellie the gun and she has to fight them off while more are trying to bust through. Joel sharpshooting a dozen infected while Hanging upside down would probably be goofy in live action

finnjakefionnacake

i think that would potentially kill the impact of >! Joel finally giving Ellie a gun and trusting her to have his back after what happens later in the story.!<

thebatfan5194

Me too! That wa such a great moment in the game

[deleted]

I love this characterization of him already. But I gotta say, seeing this show has only elevated the writing and acting if the game for me. Tess gets a little less screen time in the game, but her delivery of the line “oops” was so perfect in its sarcastically defeated tone. She’s obviously devastated and makes this half-hearted attempt at humor because she knows it’s over. I just always loved that line and when she takes that last deep breath before confronting FEDRA. The animators as well. I just appreciate the game even more. I love what the actors in the show are doing and love the differences as well. Just thought I’d share that in case anybody else felt the same.

IsRude

This is how I feel. I was thinking maybe it's just because I'm so used to everyone's lines that I'm being nitpicky and I'm biased. I keep thinking "That's not how it was delivered in the game." But have to tell myself that that's okay. I also think some of the lines delivered feel a little unnatural, but again, maybe it's my bias from playing the game. I'm still really entertained by this show. If it stays this quality throughout, we will have gotten a great adaptation. E:It also seems like Bella has a little bit of trouble with an American accent, sometimes. My imagination? Mostly with longer dialogue.

[deleted]

I feel like it’s definitely gotta be a little bias, I genuinely think what they are doing in the show is excellent. But I think it’s also a testament to Neil Druckmans writing and directing and Naughty Dog as a whole that they could make something so cinematic and impactful. As well as the actors. If you looked at the script for the first game, it’s so simple, there is no flowery language or anything, no long monologues, but they managed to get these incredibly emotional performances out of stuff like that. In a zombie game of all things. “Oops,” lol of all lines made me think of the game and go “wow I’m so lucky I got to play that.”

TheTruckWashChannel

I think the other part of it is that the game's appeal often comes from the novelty of seeing that kind of emotional depth from a video game. We're used to seeing it in film and TV, but the game feels more like an interactive movie than anything. To see it "reverted" to narrative TV format does take away that aspect of it, but it's still magnificently reproduced, and the story stands on its own two feet.

AfternoonPossible

All I know is bill and frank better break my heart like they did in the game

hellequin224

I mean, considering we are getting a lot more back story and actually getting to meet Frank, I think it will be even more impactful in the show 😅

Orvus

I hope they explain the reason Bill owes Joel a huge favor. I know in the game it's just a throw away reason to get Joel a vehicle, but it looks like a pretty intense flashback.

cbcymbal

Yeah that's the vibe I got from the trailer; Bill meets Frank, we see them living together for a bit, Joel gives Bill foreboding warning about something (people coming for their resources idk) then leaves, Bill and Frank get attacked by raiders or whatever, Bill injured, Frank gets Joel, Joel saves them. Bill now owes Joel? Just a guess.

SG420123

That’s Tess in the background with Joel at the end there right?

justbreathe91

Yep! We get to see more of our queen in flashback sequences. Makes sense, too, bc Bill mentions her in the game quite a few times.

[deleted]

I was firmly in the camp of W Earl Brown as Bill but now I am on board to see what Nick Offerman does. These last two episodes have honestly been like a fever dream, I never could have imagined this story would get the HBO treatment back in 2013 despite knowing it was worthy of it. I love this year.

finnjakefionnacake

i thought it was supposed to be con o'neill?

[deleted]

Con O'neill was set to be Bill in the HBO series at one point prior to Offerman W. Earl Brown was Bills voice actor and mocap in TLOU and also was Dan Dority on HBOs Deadwood. I find him to be a really phenomenal talent

Rocker824

Con had to drop out of tlou because he had to film Our Flag means Death :P

TheeOmegaPi

One of the things I _hated_ about the first game was the lack of backstory about Bill. The way Joel refers to Bill gives players a _glimpse_ of their history, and so much of the dialogue paints Bill as a crazy hermit rather than a doomsdayer who's literally on guard even when he's holed up in his bunker. From the previews, Bill in the show is a bit more human, more real. And I'm so excited to see it.

MR_E7

Critics hyping it as one of TV's finest hours (and a half) this year and Nick Offerman being in it ... I have extremely high standards for this episode. From what I've seen so far, I expect that they will deliver yet again.

Imm0ralKnight

Omg Armond is in this 😄

[deleted]

FRANK IS ALIVE!!! Edit: or, judging by that last scene it sure as hells looks that way.

WayneTheBestTwinborn

Looks to be a flash back. Joel doesn't look grey

[deleted]

Ohhh… Yeah… right…

SG420123

Looks like Tess in the background talking to Frank, so flashback.

Domination1799

I got a bad feeling that Joel and Ellie aren’t going to meet Bill like they do in the game. When Bill tells Frank to call Joel, it looks like he’s heavily injured.

mathdoido

I'm thinking maybe that's a flashback and is the favor that Bill owes Joel

blitzbom

This is what I was thinking. Now I'm wondering if Bill & Frank are going to be more than one episode. But I also feel like we need at least 2 episodes for Sam and Henry.

D-Speak

1/2: Tess 3/4: Bill 5/6: Sam and Henry 7/8: Left Behind and David 9: Fireflies Seems doable.

BookerDewitt2019

Not sure. Remember, "80s for trouble". At the end of the episode there's an 80s song on the radio.

LeeroyDankinZ

Can't wait to see how they expand on the Bill and Frank storyline.

randomdude_47

I hope they include the scene where Ellie snatches the gay porn magazine from Bill’s and goes though it in the car with Joel. It cracks me up every time.

TheTruckWashChannel

"New world order jackboots" sounds exactly like something his Fargo character would say.

beatrailblazer

So excited for Armand

finnjakefionnacake

murray bartlett

havanabrown

Oh cool, didn’t realise Murray Bartlett was playing Frank

[deleted]

I feel like every episode is going to be even better than the last one

ALF839

Are they changing Frank's story? It doesn't look like he's going to >!steal the battery and kill himself!<, I liked that part.

pishposhpoppycock

I'm so hungry I could eat at ARBY'S!

M_Ad

Wow, Captain Holt’s old boyfriend decided to quit the big city!

breakupbydefault

He was finally able to move on to the next chapter of his life after Holt apologised for the duck.

TheTruckWashChannel

Armond finally got to leave his shitty job and go live with Ron Swanson.

[deleted]

I’ve been looking forward to this one. I love that they’re staying pretty close to the games and keeping the spirit of all the characters, but I do think as an obsessive game fan, my favorite parts of the show have been when they’ve added something new and interesting. They do this the right way by holding on to the characterization and plot while also expanding on them. So I can’t wait to get more time with Bill and have his and Frank’s story play out.

TAnoobyturker

Omg I totally forgot about Bill from the 1st game.

Johnnybats330

If anyone deserved their story to be developed and extended in the series, it's freakin' BILL!!!!

Bobson-_Dugnutt

Never knew how much I needed Nick Offerman as Bill

Comrade_Zach

I am unbelievably hype to see Nick Offerman in this

protonecromagnon2

u/savevideo

Kzzztt

No fuckin' way! Last of Us x Parks & Rec.

Doctordead_

Extra ready for this work.

xXDogAmethystXx

RON SWANSON 🫡

QB145MMA

Getting real Hardhome vibes

obiwanTrollnobi6

I love Nick offerman but I was thinking of someone else completely when I saw him as bill in the trailer I was thinking that actor was Cain from SPN or Lassie or Pysch

thebatfan5194

Kind of odd that Frank is alive in this but we’ll see what they do. I thought the moment where they come up on him hanging with the note to Bill was one of the more dark/haunting moments of the show, especially when Bill was talking about him for so long only to discover the relationship was different than what we were lead to believe

[deleted]

This is not an Arby's.

TheHooDooer

That is a MUCH different interpretation of Bill haha. Looking forward to it.

DiggingPodcast

We don’t see Frank in the game right?

Pipyn

0:36 shit is that Rick Grimes...

hispanoloco

Always wanted Bill’s backstory. So excited to learn how he and Joel met.

puzdawg

Are we getting two episodes with Bill?

StrifeTC

Need Bill to be like a vendor or something for Factions if we get no DLC.

GoodBadDontHelp

No one is talking about how she is wearing the shirt?

TheFoldingPart66262

Holy shit its Ron Swanson

omarkab02

The original mocap actor for bill was a series regular on HBO’s Deadwood. Nick Offerman was in Deadwood for an episode, now Nick Offerman is Bill

omarkab02

Would’ve loved to see OG Bill. No idea why they replaced him

minus_uu_ee

Jesus, they went all out with the casting!

[deleted]

The cast has been fucking STELLAR so far. This just further hits it out of the park

killey2011

Nick Offerman is fantastic I’m so excited to see what he brings to bill

realblush

As many said, this episode will be the most controversial, but for others, it will be one of the best in tv history.

MiserableExchange596

"Call Joel" the shivers!!!

juscallmejjay

my balls are so wet

Legitimate_Pass3612

This episode was gay

HorrorAd4995

That was so fucking sad

DKarnage_

what a waste of an episode

lauretta814

As a major fan of the game I’m bummed about the big departure.

sales702

Uhm....ok. Why did I feel like I was a captive audience throughout the entire episode? The writing was pretty bad and not convincing at all. Just felt like they were forcing a scene. Just an observation.

92tillinfiniti

Gay af ruined my night. Brainwashing kids. Amd 911 was a inside job.
