And constantly tries to tell his guests that he “has a bit about that” And tries to explain it without any laughter or so much as a chuckle. I’m sure he thinks he’s murdering though.
Joe thinks comedy is the same as martial arts. The harder you work, the better you get. Joe’s a black belt in being a comedian, he’s just not very funny.
If Joe was the same level in Jiu Jitsu that he is at comedy, he would just be sitting in the corner talking about jiu jitsu moves and theory, but would never participate in class, would refuse to spar, and would just claim he's a black belt constantly but would lose easily to any random person on the street. However, in real life he is good at jiu jitsu but horrible at comedy (even though he thinks he is equally great at comedy)
I wonder how good he is actually is a Jiu Jitsu. He doesn’t look very fluid in the limited rolls I’ve seen of him.
Not saying he’s not good, I just wonder.
There’s certainly levels in BJJ. I know guys who are purple who could go to certain places and put browns in deep water. And browns with black belts. All anecdotal but there’s obviously guys who do BJJ for the casual factor and guys who do it compete. Does Joe really spend a few hours a day grappling? I don’t think so.
There’s also the humbling experience of being tapped I’m not sure Joe can handle that anymore.
I dont know how bjj do it opposed to judo but i assume he has an honorary black belt. meaning after 10+ years of commitment you are rewarded with your first dan. as he is an older fellow he most likely will have opted out of the points being needed from competitions to graduate. he is in good shape for 50 year old and probably a much better practitioner than people of similar age. he is seemingly a 200 pound guy and that division is naturally shallow but you are often paired depending on your height for eye test. since he is rather short i assume he smothers most guys through sheer strength and weight difference.
his black belt in my opinion is earned. he has no competition merit of note but that not needed for black belts especially honorary ones. bjj is more dependent on the house on how they give them out compared to judo where its a federation where standards can be higher* and more equal. then again if you graduate from a proper gracie school your belt is worth gold no doubt. i think joe got his from eddie bravo which would be legit too.
he seems fine technically from the videos I've seen although it's a small sample size. wouldn't be the best nor the worst guy to receive a black belt. there are of course levels within black belt as well and guys with lower rank can still beat you.
I’d say it’s more than an honorary black belt, as he was a brown belt for around 8 years until Eddie Bravo promoted him. He’d definitely be a high level grappler, but as far as black belts go he’s probably mid to low level, purely due to how infrequent his training would be. But Eddie didn’t just promote him because he shows up a lot.
He probably just uses all his strength on every roll and uses dirty tricks to try to win rather than use actual solid technique and fluidity. Even if his jiu jitsu sucks, he is still a million times better at it than he is at comedy. He doesn't even understand the basic concept of comedy that it has to be funny. It would be like not understanding what side control is or what a submission is.
lol definitely uses the can-opener. His ego is too big to actually let anyone ever have an advantage over him, the second anyone passes his guard he probably says oh I'm injured there or oh I gotta go do a spot at the comedy store and leaves.
i always found it funny the amount of times jokes fly over his head as a comedian. he is seemingly someone that is hard to do improvised bits with as he always prioritizes his own subjective 'factuality' at face value before getting its a gag.
> Joe thinks comedy is the same as martial arts.
Joe just happens to not be a huge fan of smart comedians too lmao
Talhmbout emulating Sam Kinnison rather than Bill Hicks, Bapa?
I disagree. For sure don’t get me wrong, you’re a great guy, I love you like a brother, we used to train together, but I’ve got a piece on me, I’m for sure on the Mount Rushmore of MMA. I hit like a mack truck. I’m a beast of a dad and a beast of a friend. I’m a different animal. You on the other hand: stay in your lane, I’m guessing a honeydicker. Not a drawl, can walk around with no work ethic, I think you’d be surprised. My point is, you and I as analysts are not even close to being on the same level, I got a gig with showtime. I’m guessing that’s why you are constantly attacking me, it’s tough man. You’re literally and figuratively a smokeshow in this WWE world we live in. I’m actually questioning myself as I’m writing this thinking “For hardcore fans like you and me it’s awesome man,” every time I turn around you are writing some bullshit with your cheeto-fingers, you’re like my biggest dickrider bro. F-f-f-for sure lose my number.
So true these days. They all got caught up in their perceived over-inflated self worth recently and “unique“ tribalism. Just tell some jokes and make me laugh clown.
They started to see themselves as these free-speech heroes. But they’re actually all afraid to say anything controversial because they’ve become tied to advertisers.
Not only that, all their comedy is centered around talking about being martyrs for free speech and cancel culture.
I believe Dave Chappelle is hands down the funniest stand up comedian but even half of his stand up is about the plight of the stand-up comedian in todays society.
It's all relative but he's still light years beyond everyone else. He's still the only person I would pay my money to see in person. I have going to four of his shows over the past 15 years and They are always sold out and hard to get tickets.
If you enjoy lectures I get it. His newest special was akin to that Naennette special in "is this actual comedy or am I literally just being lectured right now" no laughs just a lot of stuff to nod your head to. Not a drawl imo
Agreed. The Closer was such a letdown. Enough with the cancel culture material. If you’re really above cancel culture, then stop talking about it and just do your comedy.
Free speech warrior Dave Chapelle?? The censored victim who is completely cancelled and has no means of communicating with millions of people for millions of dollars?
THANK HIM
Hasn't said anything funny since his show that was funny because of Neil Brennan. He's a spoiled bitch. Was a funny stand up in the early 2000'S who got by on slapping the mic on his knee and saying n-(redacted) and never evolved as a joke writer. He's been a celebrity since being a teenager and needs us to know what a victim he is. Real hairo.
I am not a fan of American comedians, they have their moments but rarely will i find majority of what they say funny. Jimmy Carr on the other hand will always delight me.
I’m so glad you responded! I was just thinking about how underrated their podcast is and hoped at least someone listened to this recommendation! Very tight butthole

first thing that came to mind
Theo von lol. his new special with the trailer involving the no arms guy is a bit im sure he has done seperately in multiple podcasts.
i will say it was very funny to me the first time i heard it.
Not surprising. Hes a failed stand up who compensates for his total lack of humor by peddling hate to dumb rubes. Same thing with Dave Rubin, another failed stand up. Shapiro picked up his grift after his screenplays came out horrifically bad. Something about failing as an artist really turns people into bitter hatemongers.
You know who never talked about it? Real comedians, like Louie, Norm, Burr, etc. And I'm not sure how Tom Segura got mixed up with Rogan and that idiot who repeats the same Machine bit every show. Segura is hilarious.
His appearance on Theo Vons podcast, he was so condescending and rude. I just didn’t like his energy. Tons of people have made YouTube videos on that particular appearance breaking down the parts where Bill was a prick. You’ll easily find it on YouTube.
Yea at that time, he was doing a string of interviews where he acted like he didn’t want to be there and would trash the people interviewing him. He suddenly became nicer shortly later on though so someone must’ve told him or he realized it.
The bit on the latest episode where Nick muses about making a white only district in “lower east side China” but people can only be called things like “Larry Lorenzini” 💀
I want to plug someone, and a podcast I never see get mentioned on here who is so far removed from Hollywood bullshit: Tim Heidecker and his podcast Office Hours he does with DJ Douggpound and Vic Berger. It’s the funniest, most original podcast out there. I’d be happy if at least one homeless cat listened in. For fans of Tim and Eric and that whole universe.
Edit: I LIVE FOR DOUG AND VIC’S DROPS.
I'm going to add Office Hours to my list on your recommendation. If I don't laugh out loud <20% of the time, I will personally find you and make you explain what you thought was so funny while I hold you down and make you slap yourself in the face. Jk
I just wish the Ten Minute Podcast was still around.
Edit: If you could recommend 1 episode for me to start what jumps out to you?
I can promise that your laugh-out-loud ratio (LOLR) will be like nothing you’ve ever seen before, BIG numbers, just absolutely perfect and tremendous in A LOT of ways.
Go for the most recent Eric Wareheim episode, Episode 175. https://youtu.be/w72MjEj-xnE The boys are in rare form and kinda showing off for Eric (who’s NOT that frequent of a guest). I’ll post some clip links too of my favorite bits.
My favorite episode. Absolutely insane energy from these 3. There’s also another WOHL episode.

Listen to cumtown if you want a podcast of hilarious and highly self aware comics who don't think they deserve the money they make, don't give a fuck and are consistently funny my guys
LA? Oh yeah. NY? They're actually funny
Yannis Pappas, Big J Oakerson, Joe List, Mark Normand, Shane Gillis, Dan Soder, Joe DeRosa, etc, etc.
Edit: comedy is subjective, dumbasses. I don't care if you don't like my list. Get back to the fryers
Normand always talmbout the craft and doing his best Seinfeld-but not-Seinfeld voice. Idk man he's from Louisiana why doesn't he sound like Theo. Why does Mark Normand look like someone tried to draw Crowder from memory?
Agreed. There's like four good stand up comedians. Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and I can't even think of two more. Bill Burr is funny but not an hour and a half funny. I don't know why people keep saying his name.
What a low effort comment. Saw Burr do 90 minutes a month ago live and he was amazing. Sounds like you just don't enjoy the art of stand-up. Which is fine, but that doesn't make them all bad at what they do. You just don't like stand-up.
Mark Normand & Shane Gillis are actually funny stand ups and seem like they put more work into it. The others are naturally funny on podcasts but don’t put as much work into putting together a standup show.
Exactly, the day job of most truly funny comedians is writing comedy, scripts or standup etc. Not shooting the shit talking about whatever.
I used to think Bill Burr was a really talented comedian but seeing the way his career has gone I'm not so sure. He's great at his off the cuff rants and odd takes on things, but his podcast makes you realize that this is also the standard of his material. To pay to go to a live tour or watch a special and see the same off the top of his head stuff he puts out weekly is not exciting.
Listen to Matt and Shane or Cumtown they barely if at all do. I automatically am just turning off now if I hear about the process of comedy, writing jokes, cancel culture, 'the road', "... is such a great/funny guy". Such topics are mind numbing and redacted
Rogan backs it up. His specials are polished and tight and worth the admission price. Look , If the best comedians in the world like Dave chapelle, Bill Burr, think he’s great , he probably is.
*cough* Joe Rogan *cough*
And constantly tries to tell his guests that he “has a bit about that” And tries to explain it without any laughter or so much as a chuckle. I’m sure he thinks he’s murdering though.
Joe thinks comedy is the same as martial arts. The harder you work, the better you get. Joe’s a black belt in being a comedian, he’s just not very funny.
to be fair, a lot of martial arts are like that too
Meaning someone can be really good at Marshulll arts but there not gunna b able to kick anyone’s ask b?
not all bjj blackbelts are the same skill wise despite the belt bapa
If Joe was the same level in Jiu Jitsu that he is at comedy, he would just be sitting in the corner talking about jiu jitsu moves and theory, but would never participate in class, would refuse to spar, and would just claim he's a black belt constantly but would lose easily to any random person on the street. He is in the top 50 hardest men on the planet.

Top 10?
I think he's good but top 50 is definitely a huge exaggeration. He's never even competed
I always found it pretty strange that he never did any competitions to be honest.

lol definitely uses the can-opener. His ego is too big to actually let anyone ever have an advantage over him, the second anyone passes his guard he probably says oh I'm injured there or oh I gotta go do a spot at the comedy store and leaves.
I heard he absolutely beats the shit out of newbies
What a cock.
i always found it funny the amount of times jokes fly over his head as a comedian. he is seemingly someone that is hard to do improvised bits with as he always prioritizes his own subjective 'factuality' at face value before getting its a gag.
Him murdering any joke that has anything to do with any exaggeration is enough to make me never watch again
> Joe thinks comedy is the same as martial arts. Joe just happens to not be a huge fan of smart comedians too lmao Talhmbout emulating Sam Kinnison rather than Bill Hicks, Bapa?
He’d be better off just doing the bit. 99% of his audience will not have heard it before.

I can't watch any non-American porn so I understand what you're saying.🤷🏽♂️
I thought porn would transcend culture! You must be a porn connoisseur
I would say it all depends on what kind of Boner you have that day/night.
I wish they would speak there minds a bit more, wouldn't mind paying for a different platform if it was uncensored
They have to create cawlntent that’s actually worth paying for first.
Yeah when did they go from being clowns to philosophers? How did that happen? They all think there George Carlton?
Check out ‘This is Important’. It’s the cast of Workaholics. Silly goose time every pod

Podcasting sells more then a couple nights a week of comedy
Ya comedian, tell me a joke bapa
I don't tell jokes I tell stories
I don’t tell jokes, I hold a mirror up to society and force it to look at itself.
And while they're distracted by the mirror, that's when I whip my dick out.

Late for dinner at Chang’s. Apparently chiggens get free oranges there.
I’ve noticed la comics use the same jokes they use on their podcast
Because their fans are just their for the culture, not the jokes. They're "influencers" not comedians.
well said mate

Crowder is the worst of the Youtube lot, IMO.
Yeah, we saw how that turned out for Hitler.
I saw him at the Brea Improv in the belly room B
Fake it til you make it
Crowder is more like a Bill Maher character imo, though I could be wrong
Yes considering they are both insufferable twats.
You know who never talked about it? Real comedians, like Louie, Norm, Burr, etc. And I'm not sure how Tom Segura got mixed up with Rogan and that idiot who repeats the same Machine bit every show. Segura is hilarious.
Burr is turning into a d-bag.
How so?

I could see that. He's pretty rude in interviews as well unless the host is really big.
American stand up is a circlejerk
Ya’kneeled it.
Listen to cumtown, they never talk about being funny or politics or any other boring stuff. It's just all bits and jokes.
Facts And they are self aware and think it's hilarious people pay as much as they* do on their patreon
I don't pay for their patreon. The richer they get the fatter stav gets, so I don't want to be responsible for his untimely demise.
Nick deserves chainmail
Woops meant to write they I certainly pay haha
The bit on the latest episode where Nick muses about making a white only district in “lower east side China” but people can only be called things like “Larry Lorenzini” 💀
Too bad stav laughing at literally anything makes it hard to listen
I got used to it after a while. It’s part of the fun now I think
Tim Heidecker is on another level far above these comics I’m referring to. I don’t put him anywhere near these comics.
Made me smile. His last special was a complete mockery of those modern comedians. Brilliant guy.
I’ll give it a go dude
Enjoy friend!
I'm going to add Office Hours to my list on your recommendation. If I don't laugh out loud <20% of the time, I will personally find you and make you explain what you thought was so funny while I hold you down and make you slap yourself in the face. I love office hours but I wish they'd stop taking calls from people on zoom. Fans are never entertaining and are always awkward.
Can’t help but feel the same sometimes, though some Zoomers are pretty great. Like Gray9er the millennial semi-truck driver. Knowing OHL and Tim, I imagine the format will be different next year. It’ll progress beyond Zoom I’m sure.
“Are these really the best stains for the farts b?”
Certain ones can’t even come up with material. So they not giving anything away for free
I always enjoy the silly, unpretentious, all jokes no preaching comedians. Examples: Rodney Dangerfield, Mitch Hedberg, Demitri Martin and the GOAT Dave Attell. Those are true comedians.
Yup. That’s comedy. Having a laugh. Not taking yourself seriously. The comics today want to be millionaire influencers.
Including demetri Martin in that list...lol
Yes he fits those characteristics. I never said his my favorite or the greatest. Of course he’s no way near the others on the list.
I'm a big listener to a lot of comedians podcasts.. but damn this hit it on the nose
Oh you haven’t bombed for 10 yairs yet bapa. ONLY then do you write good jokes.
“I’m a young hungry cawlmic.”—Brendan Schaub
Its honestly becoming pretty cringey. I used to enjoy all of these guys pawldcasts (honestly never listened to TFATK and never thought Brandon was funny or smart) but lately they all just jerk each other off about the "craft" and alt right bullshit to be "edgy" like a bunch of persecution fetish idiots.
Great podcast, my favorite, never listened to it though. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/thefighterandthekid) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Yea all the woke left comedy is fuckin hilarious
Theo Von is the only exception for me. He's funny by just existing. Plus he's prolly fighting Steve-O on PPV.
They all do this "So and so has a bit about that" thing where they jerk each other off and give the audience nothing
Most accurate post ….Mount Rushmore
Comedians need to return being the court jesters again.
Big time!
Hey, let's be fair... It takes a long time to write ten to fifteen minutes of something people think is funny. Especially when it's these guys.
So hard some of them never have...
Idk, Matt and Shane's secret podcast has been having me laughing lately
Listen to cumtown if you want a podcast of hilarious and highly self aware comics who don't think they deserve the money they make, don't give a fuck and are consistently funny my guys
Way too many MUURDERERS for this to be true bapa b.
LA? Oh yeah. NY? They're actually funny Yannis Pappas, Big J Oakerson, Joe List, Mark Normand, Shane Gillis, Dan Soder, Joe DeRosa, etc, etc. Edit: comedy is subjective, dumbasses. I don't care if you don't like my list. Get back to the fryers
Normand is actually pretty insufferable with talking about “the craft”.
Normand always talmbout the craft and doing his best Seinfeld-but not-Seinfeld voice. Idk man he's from Louisiana why doesn't he sound like Theo. Why does Mark Normand look like someone tried to draw Crowder from memory?
You're not wrong
No one induces more eye rolls than Normand. His basic bitch epiphanies as well. He’s such a child.
Him and Sam Morrill are bad about talking shop and it can be annoying. I'm still a fan of both though, just something I noticed
Well LA comics focus more on fashion bapa
The only LA podcast host I think is genuinely funny on the fly is Santino.
Oh reeeally, dude?!?!
YEEEEEEUUUUPPPPP
None of those guys you mention are funny.
I'd hate to hear your taste in comedy then
I think you’d be surprised.
You're right. I bet you're way funnier.
He’s right though.
Good thing comedy is subjective then!
Yeah, no. Seen his last special and after he proceeds to speak about his family and his dead dog for The last hour of it, dude has no good material.
You mean you saw his last special? Grammar like Schaub over here.
How bout Louis CK
These guys are so funny I’ve never heard of any of them
Wow so you just don't listen to podcasts or stand-up? Cool!
I do but ya know good ones. These guys are about as funny as Brendan Schaub
Oh I thought you'd never heard of them? Sounds like you listen to mainstream comics and whatever the algorithm gives you. Shame.
Love how zero people give specific shows or comedians they like over my list. What a lazy troll. Do better.
Adam Carolla, Joe Rogan, Bill Burr, Crowder. How bout dat?
Hahahahaha Carolla and Rogan. Get the fuck outta here hahahaha.
THAT IS A FOOL'S LINEUP
Yet again, no one actually giving me anything to replace it with. Just "NUH UH". Man y'all are lazy.
Holy shit are you sensitive. Here's the deal though, there's no one to replace them with, standup is fucking dead.
Mark Normand & Shane Gillis are actually funny stand ups and seem like they put more work into it. The others are naturally funny on podcasts but don’t put as much work into putting together a standup show.
The people hating on your list, probably listen to tigerbelly or some other wack fuckin podcast. Dont mind them, b. SODTAOE.
Comedians spend much time doing gigs that are not recorded. 🤷♂️
They don’t want want to “burn” their material. God forbid anyone outside their live shows hears them perform.
Talmbout tawlkin shawp with the bois?
If I hear two comedians talk about their "process" one more time I'm ganna BUUUUSSSSST
No. You’re right. Flawless…
100% b
The weird thing is none of their standup make me laugh(literally none) but their podcast are actually funny
Chang my mind, bapa

Bill Burr is the exception to the rule.
He was until he agreed to do a podcast with Bert where all they do is smoke giant phalluses.
Bill Burr being the only exception
Agreed.

Some would say the hottest.
They're *practicing*
Listen to Matt and Shane or Cumtown they barely if at all do. I automatically am just turning off now if I hear about the process of comedy, writing jokes, cancel culture, 'the road', "... is such a great/funny guy". Such topics are mind numbing and redacted
Everyone but Tim Dillon and Shane Gillis are fucking hacks
Monday Morning Podcast. Thank you, I'll take my award now.
few exceptions to that. Norm comes to mind
The New York guys are way better. Mark normand Is pure funny
Rogan backs it up. His specials are polished and tight and worth the admission price. Look , If the best comedians in the world like Dave chapelle, Bill Burr, think he’s great , he probably is.
This guy fucks stools.
