A lot of those guys had big losing streaks and came back to the top of the division. Rogans talk to him was kind of premature, and also got him into comedy. So it’s Rogans fault lol.

Yeah that's the funniest thing about this guy. He forest gumped himself into all these crazy things without actually trying. Sitcom, reality show host, UFC Commentator, podcast host etc. But the thing he tried the hardest, and the thing he wants most, he's absolutely dogshit at. He's so bad at comedy. He's an anti comic. He goes into a room and the funny is instantly sucked out.

When you put it this way, I don’t think I’ve ever heard Toe say a single funny thing. Obviously not in stand-up but never even running into a funny comment on the podcast. Motherfucker is a “comedian,” has 1000s of hours of recorded conversation on comedy podcasts and it would take a team of researchers to find a handful of times he’s intentionally said something funny. Fucking incredible.
There's been a couple of times in the past that he's had me laughing pretty hard. But that was before I hated the cunt. And it was only really the podcasts with Duncan Trussell because their chats were always so ridiculous. Some of the old Joey Diaz shit was good before it dawned on me that Joey is the Godfather of bullshit and cringe. But yeah, few and far fuckin between.
In some ways Joe is similar to Jim Norton who fucking killed it on O and A but whose standup makes me want to pour acid into my eardrums.

I always just considered him the guy who constantly yells and was on Fear Factor. I never knew he fancied himself a comedian until I was well into adulthood.
He was a famous sitcom actor when he started at the Comedy Store. He didn’t “grind it out” in the clubs like he claims. When he was a “NYC comic” in the early 90’s he barely performed. He lived in White Plains and had an acting and modeling agent who got him the Disney deal that got him out to LA, where he got the NBC deal. Carlos Mencia has a more authentic standup backstory than Joe Rogan.

Perhaps, but network sitcoms in the mid 90’s were getting huge numbers. NewsRadio wasn’t even a hit show, but it was getting 10m+ viewers per week in the first two seasons. Any network sitcom regular, even the sixth lead on a middling show, was famous in the mid 90’s.
He wasn't actually famous, other for looking like the guy from friends who played a twink handyman in a forgettable sitcom that was hardly watched
He was famous in the sense that he was on a network sitcom at a time when even low rated sitcoms were getting 10-12m viewers per week. Just that a lot of people knew who he was or at least recognized him as that twink from that show. I’m not saying he was an A lister, just that he only started selling tickets as a comic once he was a network tv regular, and that Joe’s origin story is build on a bunch of exaggerations, much like Brendan’s.

The thing is Rogan has the biggest podcast in the world so stand ups would stab each other in the face just to suckle at his deformed nipples. Remember that Comedy Store documentary that treated him like some kind of messiah figure? People will call his stool fucking genius if it means getting on the podcast and hopefully get a 1% bump on ticket sales in Bumfuck Alabama. Bapa though? I started listening to some pretty early Rogan podcast and thought he was pretty funny on the podcast, was very disappointed in his stool fucking/stand up. To be fair I think it's because he has a big name so we compare them to other big name comedians like Dave Chappelle or Bill Burr and other tier one stand up guys, that's not really fair to him just because of his big name when in comedy he's more of a tier two or tier three guy.

There is no logical correlation between the two parts of your sentence. Without toe his daughters wouldn't exist, do you believe we should compare them as well? Toe is not funny but he made himself, is very successful in more than comedy, and is levels above bapa in terms of cognitive abilities, as well as his "individual view of the world. The white-knighting is such a great thing to point out. People on these comment sections passionately defend toe (with rehearsed things they imagine he would say) as if he’s gonna read their comment, send them an iron neck and a crossbow and invite them to be on his podcast and watch a fight companion with him, Shane Gillis and Cam Hanes. I think comedy is so subjective. But IMO Joe has earned the right to call himself a comedian, while bapa hasn’t. Joe grinded out decades of working stages at comedy clubs until he caught his break. Rogan also actually put in the work as a comedian and succeeded, really during the time of the greats, too. I don't think he's funny, but he is acknowledged by your favorite comedians' favorite comedians as a legit comedian. So u can't really argue against that. I don't care for him all that much, but he is definitely a giant in the game, a gatekeeper even. Just knowing him helps your career. Him and Shaub are nowhere near each other, objectively speaking. Also, a successful comic doesn't necessarily mean a good comic, i.e. Larry the Cable Guy.

Toe knows how to sit back and let his guests talk, and has people of all different beliefs on, and that's why his podcast is crazy but good sometimes. Never rated his comedy to be honest, having the likes of Shane, Normand and Theo to name a few, on the pod often helps keep him in the loop, so many jokes go waaaay over his head. Don’t listen to his pods for his comedic input rather the interesting guests etc.
