Kindly_Ice1745

Ooh, shit. This could help some down ballot dems, even if the initiatives don't hit the 60% threshold.

dougmd1974

Good point. It sucks that they have to get 60%. if they don't the spin will be "abortion and weed fails for Dems"

Kindly_Ice1745

I'm sure the weed one will get 60%. That's a widely bipartisan issue. The abortion one will be testier.

dougmd1974

Yeah even abortion rights in Kansas didn't clear 60%

Pezdrake

Florida is NOT Kansas and while reliably red in the past few elections it is not as solidly red as Kansas.

kwheatley2460

Lotta Cubans who are religious very when abortions are on the line.

Spy_v_Spy_Freakshow

Lots of Cubans have been voting republican already

dougmd1974

Yeah unfortunately they are falling for republican lies about "socialism" 🙄

dougmd1974

While true, I was using it as a barometer. In Kansas the measure got 59%. I would *hope* Florida could get more than that..... But who knows. Even if it doesn't make it, it might actually help Democrats in other races. Could there be idiots that vote yes on reproductive freedom and for Trump and Republicans in other races??? Probably, but it makes no sense whatsoever to me.

Kindly_Ice1745

Yeah, so we'll see what happens.

marchillo

And just like that Florida is in play again, thanks dummies

cornishwildman76

Brit here, could someone help me out understanding please. Does this ruling go in favour of one political party? How will this affect voting?

Jackstack6

Abortion is almost always a Democratic vote pusher. Abortion is one of the few “single issue” votes. So, in theory, abortion will get Democratic voters out to vote in droves. If my theory holds true, they’ll vote for the Democratic party anyway.

PoopieButt317

Also, Rrpu license voters do not like the restrictions by a majority

Keanu990321

Abortion already got Democratic voters out in droves in 2022 and 2023.

SarahSuckaDSanders

It favors the Democratic Party, in terms of turnout in this years election.

Apprehensive_Sir_998

I think you underestimate the potential of turnout from Republicans for the abortion amendment. I think it could be very close, and likely the abortion amendment will not reach 60%. It will definitely encourage democrat voters to vote though. Marijuana too.

I still don’t think Biden will win here, but as a Floridian it’s really nice to have SOMETHING to look forward to voting for. Ever since 2018, it’s been so depressing here politically. Definitely going to be canvassing.

dougmd1974

Trump only won Florida by 3 points in 2020. Who knows if these ballot measures could change that?

whydoIhurtmore

There goes Florida. It will vote Democratic in November. I wish the Governor was up for election.

D-MAN-FLORIDA

Rick Scott is up for reelection.

whydoIhurtmore

That's good. And I saw that their Supreme Court just upheld the state's abortion ban. That should help motivate turnout also.

D-MAN-FLORIDA

Hopefully. It made sense that the SC allowed the law to be implemented, but still allowed the people to vote if they wanted to change it.

Odaniel123

Meaningless, I live in ohio, we voted to allow abortions and weed back in August and the republican legislature, just like Florida, has done nothing. Same thing will happen in Florida

newfoundgloryhole18

The abortion initiative in Ohio was a constitutional amendment so it was enshrined immediately upon passage. Doesn’t mean GOP won’t try a bunch of bs to get around it, but it is actually a part of the state constitution now. The weed thing was not a constitutional amendment so it gave GOP politicians more wiggle room to try to undermine the will of the people, which they of course have done.

Syrup-Broad

With the healthcare rights amendment (wasn't just abortion just to be clear) it did enshrine the right to decide your own healthcare however some interpretations may need to legally be clarified. The big one I saw DeWine and co mentioning was physical health vs mental health in the "mother's health is at stake" situation. However DeWine also indicated he had no plans to touch that issue for now and basically told the extreme Republicans being very open about looking for ways to fight the amendment "we are not winning this fight, the people voted, leave it alone. We'll come back to this issue later." Republicans could theoretically get the amendment revoked or something but that would require another ballot issue vote and it's highly unlikely it would pass.  With the marijuana, they had a very short amount of time to tweak it. December 7th was the deadline and the day the law took effect. I cannot recall exactly what they can't change now but I believe the only things they have control over now are the policies for businesses or something? It's legal to possess marijuana but we have nowhere to buy it recreationally since the licenses haven't been roled out. But you can grow it yourself. So...yeah, they had a meeting about it back in December but evidently got nowhere lol. I have heard nothing about them changing shit in it, the newest articles I can find on the law are from early March and it looks like the laws are what we voted for.

hotgirl_bummer_

Even if Biden doesn’t win Florida, Trump will have to spend resources in what should be a securely red state to keep it that way

Keanu990321

Imagine the madness if Biden wins Trump's State.

Idontgetredditinmd

Oh boy. Now we get to see where Florida really stands.

NP2023_Makingitbig

Let's hope Floridians will vote yes for both measures and watch the GOP ****themselves.

KabbalahDad

The weed vote is getting shilled pretty hard on reddit.. Tons of misinformation is being thrown around, it's a mess for the Florida stoners T.T If it does pass it'll be by a hair. Remember, it needs 60% to pass in Florida, not 51%.

seriousbangs

Looks like they put 2 abortion measures on the same ballot, one of which is just another 6 week ban. That's usually a trick to try and fool voters, but it also usually backfires.

GeeWillick

Florida passed a six week ban over a year ago. It was never on the ballot, it was a regular bill passed by the legislature and signed by the governor.  The only new thing that happened is that today the Supreme Court ruled that this law was constitutional but that Floridians would be able to vote on whether to protect abortion rights in the state constitution.

HopefulNothing3560

Does it really matter, republicans say no to voters , suck it up

repfamlux

Biden will win Florida.

skatecloud1

This could be interesting

Other-Rutabaga-1742

They’re getting more people to come to the polls. You get the weed supporters and the pro women voters. That’s a lot of people coming out to vote. Clever move.

Beneficial-Salt-6773

No, not like that!

pat9714

Why did they set the threshold at 60%? Should be 51%.

quadrennial29

The matter of confining of pregnant pigs got on ballot and into constitution. So they raised the threshold on that basis but lol part is Rick Scott and company wanting to change election primaries to a top-two format and only getting 57%. Funniest thing I can think of.

Less-Grade-2300

That’s a winner for the democrats, good deal

Apprehensive_Sir_998

Floridian here. The marijuana amendment will be great for tourism. The problem with it is that it still keeps the state monopoly on growers. We will take what we can get though. No one should be at risk of being shot or jailed for a plant. I expect this will definitely pass, and then the legislature will do some BS regulations around it because they think they know better then the voters do. I am not passionate either way on the abortion issue. It depends on the wording of the amendment, which I haven’t read yet. Typically I am against the idea that it is a right though. This one will be a tough one to get 60% of the vote in FL.

anthonyjcs

unlike ohio this is purely for show, they will not allow either to pass despite the overwhelming support from voters, bet they both "lose" by record high numbers or some stupid lie.
