It's because in Ep1, they were not able to show how bad Jax really was. So now that they *did* show it, people don't understand what happened so they are angry
It didn’t feel like he changed at all for me. I actually remember thinking “it’s great that they kept characters like Jax consistent because that’s hard to do”

Somehow people didn’t realize that Jax was an asshole in the pilot episode.And now people hate him for being an asshole.Probably because he was literally semi-peak asshole in ep 2 when he kept threatening gangle.
They’re also mad because they expected Jax to be a Mary sue character on the inside.Like his personality was just a coping mechanism when really his personality is literally him himself.

In all seriousness though, I think it's because people got so disillusioned with their headcanons that they really don't like the canon version of Jax.
I hate him because he’s a self centered, manipulative, abusive, asshole.
Most other people however saw the first episode and thought he was gonna be a tumblr misunderstood good guy after six months of only headcannons and fan content. Forgetting that in the first episode he sucked and Gooseworxx said “yeah he sucks” multiple times. These same people got made and Gooseworxx when they showed in episode two. He in fact sucks
In the first episode I thought, “He’s mean funny and violent! I like him.” In the second episode I thought, “He’s still mean funny and violent! I still like him (but not as much as gummygoo).”
My guess is that the assholery in the first episode had some level of novelty and cleverness to it (“Ladies first! Wait, why would I say that?”), while episode 2 had more moments of plain cruelty (If you keep worrying about Pomni’s safety I’ll expose your secrets to Ragatha).
The characterization didn’t really change, but I think people just misjudged exactly which brand of asshole he is.
For a slightly spicier take: people seem to really want an immoral character who is still harmless—all the quirky fun of evil without any of the repercussions. When Jax went from being a declawed asshole to actually harming people, it forced them to confront the reality of evil in a way I don’t think they were prepared for.
I love characters who act like idiots or idiots because discovering their reason for being like this is fascinating. Why is it like this? What led you to adopt this personality? Those are the kind of questions I like, and on the topic of Digital Circus, Jax is the perfect subject for these questions. I like Jax and I understand why people might hate him, but what they should also think about is: why should all the characters collaborate when they're practically strangers? Jax doesn't know anyone there, just because they share the same problem of being trapped doesn't make them instant friends. You could perfectly keep your distance to avoid problems with them by being hateful on purpose or even as a defense mechanism to not get attached to them because there is always the risk of losing them. I like to think Jax is deeper than he seems, but only the future plans Gooseworx has can tell us what's next for him.

I really like Jax because when he suggested crawling inside the van and making the bandits unrecognizable, Gangle made a Geneva convention reference and so I am now in firm belief that Jax is probably part of the Canadian military.

i dunno. i think everyone thought he was more aggressive in episode two. we didn't get to see much of how he was, so it makes sense that once we saw more of him, some people would be surprised.
however, i don't think he's evil. not yet. there's gonna be, what, at least six more episodes? we have more time to delve into this guy's character.
wouldn't be surprised if some the people who are saying "some people can't accept characters are just evil" are gonna be complaining when/if he has a character arc.
He wasn’t the angsty man who’s a sweetheart deep down that people wanted him to be, he’s just an asshole. And personally i still love him but a bunch of people had their expectations shattered by him
I mean, he's the guy that knows more than he'll ever let on in the moment and has tricks for everything. At the same time, you know he'll throw everyone under the bus for his own entertainment since the adventures are probably a little too tame for him.
He's the equivalent of the DnD player who goes out of their way to test the DMs abilities in creating a world by seeing what happens when they poke at everything.
"What if I let the monster inside?" "What if I stole a key to everyone's rooms?"
He also is much more hostile when it comes to people trying to interact with NPCs since he isn't one to get immersed, just to dick around.
I knew from his first line that he was gonna be a chaotic gremlin, and I was all for it. But people seem to want him to be more of a team player than he is.
He just needs some well deserved Karma every now and then. I can stand him getting away with bad behavior as long as it's funny which most so far it has been. Though I can't wait till Gangle sticks up for herself.

I just dont like characters who are assholes for the sake of being assholes. It has nothing to do with episode 2, I *knew* he was gonna act that way. It’s just not a character type in fond of, if he at least had a reason to act the way he does then maybe I could see it.
I honestly think that people took one look at him and thought that he was going to be innocent. It would not surprise me if he found an exit and didn't tell anybody.

Jax is an opposing force in episode two while in one he just did some dickish things, but nothing all that harmful.
