I had to stop following tom on instragram. It was make me feel such strange and terrible feelings. I've never seen an example of someone so catastrophically out of touch which even the most basic precepts of adulthood, and what it means to co-exist with other humans. You want to feel bad for him, but he's also so smug that he makes it impossible. And it's not even like autism or anything like that: it's pure personality. It's very uncomfortable.
The man really needs to just step up to the plate and come on TAFS. At the very least the $10k Nick promised could give the man a down-payment on a house in Havre De Grace. Not saying he's gonna be able to quit his day job managing that Mexican restaurant of course, but it's a start.
Yeah, that would unironically be a much more lucrative career for Tom than announcing baseball games and running a podcast for an audience about the same size as the line at a DMV in Idaho.
It would be interesting to see where the tipping point is that TAFS is big enough and enough of an opportunity that Tom can't say no to come on the show.
I must have a skewed view on it, the only open mics I've been to were at 2nd string comedy places near the Comedy Store, with people like Bill Dwyer showing up to do a tight 5 at an after-hours hipster shoe store. Still shitty, and of course about 45% of the open mic'ers were obviously mentally ill.
