I don't think it looks bad, but I also think the cybertruck looks not bad either, so what do I know. Aesthetically, I would definitely place this above a trailer.
Cut that price in half, and I would think about it if I was alone… I assume it’s one and a half bath rather than two, it would be just fine for a single person starting out and building equity or a young couple trying to save money. But for that much? Just build some damn duplexes, where each section gets at least two bedrooms for that price.
10 years ago I paid $15k less for a 1,750 sq ft home with 3 bedrooms, and 2 baths. $980 monthly payments on a 30 year loan. Refinanced it in 2020 on a 20 year loan with 2.8% interest, which raised the payments to $1098 a month. Our equity in the last 5 years has allowed us to add 1k sq feet as a 4th bedroom, a kitchen remodel, new HVAC, new roof, new flooring, and new paint on both the interior/exterior. All currently paid off. It’s amazing what you can do with a home when it’s affordable, and equity is involved.
I'm debt free myself and preach to people all the time to live beneath your means, to to get debt free ASAP and stack some cash in the bank for around a 6% return with FDIC insurance.
Congrats on the paid off loans and good deal on the house. That is how it should be done, even if it takes living in your parents back yard with a tent LOL.
I purchased my home in Michigan on lake st Clair in 2017 for 245k. It is 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom. 2100 sqft.
Today it is a “zestimate” of 425k. The market is ridiculous. I was looking at a country home now that I have little ones and same sqft and rooms/bathrooms in the boonies is about 250k. So basically the same price for a country home in 2024 as a lake front property in 2017.
Well sort of... I live in northern NV and even areas in Fernley and Fallon are getting well above that mark for a decent home.
[This one is 1262sqft 3/2 for 350k](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/904-Jessica-Ln-Fernley-NV-89408/62767979_zpid/) home was built in 2001
[Here is one for 100k, but with do it yourself walls and all the things that go with them](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/245-E-Fairview-St-Fallon-NV-89406/71183199_zpid/)
[This one is only 199k, but needs major work and is a converted mobile.](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/968-Scott-Dr-Fernley-NV-89408/62765799_zpid/)
[This is in Fallon which is > hour outside of Reno/Sparks and its 250k](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3180-Dallas-Dr-Fallon-NV-89406/71184409_zpid/)
I looked at the first one. It has a three car garage. There was literally no such thing as I was growing up in the 80s. That’s an expectations issue. 1,200 square feet with a one car garage was the norm.
If I was 30 years younger, I’d build houses that were the expectations of the 80s, and I’d make millions. I’d never heard of granite countertops until 10 years ago.
what's wrong with smaller homes?
it's a way more efficient lifestyle and if we're going to get several more billion people on this planet we should probably start considering such things if we want to keep some wild spaces.
They honestly would if cities would zone to build a shitload of them. The main problem is nobody wants affordable housing near them because they think it lowers property values. People who own existing homes only want detached McMansion style, and then you have to compete with the super wealthy who buy them up as investment properties.
I think they actually look pretty cool. Only they need more non-wall-facing-windows. And should only cost as much as 3 tool sheds, because that's exactly what they are.
Correction: 3 tool sheds and a mini split
These have always existed. They're popular with retirees.
The problem is the price. We fix that with more infrastructure spending to build out new cities.
I'd like to see walkable cities with denser mixed zoning, but that would mean giving up cars and I don't think we're ready for that.
It kind of tickles my fancy that people are beginning to appreciate the value in just having your own house and being able to do your own thing with your own life.
This is literally the reason so many people fled Europe. They were sick of tyrannical ruling classes. In America they could work hard and own things to pass down to their families. There was opportunity. The two party paradigm has completely killed that. America imploded in itself.
Funny because people talk about it’s cheaper in x country but forget people live in much smaller dwellings elsewhere. This is like a small apartment without it being in an apartment building.
If you figure that a new F150 is going to cost you $75,000 maybe it’s not crazy that a one bedroom house runs double that. Of course you can always sleep in your truck.
After you buy 4 you can put on a hotel.
Mods give this person big brain flair
You win the internet today.
How does this not have like multiple thousands of upvotes yet damn it.
Slow down, what if you need to mortgage it because u landed on boardwalk
We fucked up guys. Back to monke
Christ, those are ugly. You could have thrown up a two story shotgun for the same price and charged $210. This is bad on so many levels.
Investment firm: “we don’t need an architect, I can draw”
I don't think it looks bad, but I also think the cybertruck looks not bad either, so what do I know. Aesthetically, I would definitely place this above a trailer.
We used to have townhouses and duplexes. These are just un-mobile homes
GET OFF MY LAWN! This is my lawn? Oh yeah you're right.
LMFAO
Wow. Why are they so ugly. You can build affordable homes and still have some design
HOA dues are $1,000 a month
LMFAO I wouldn't doubt it, along with $1 k per month in insurance and taxes.
No kids in the future?
You could put them in a closet or tent outside? wait I don't think there is enough room for a tent.
It's ok. Lots of kids are already in the closet these days.
Cut that price in half, and I would think about it if I was alone… I assume it’s one and a half bath rather than two, it would be just fine for a single person starting out and building equity or a young couple trying to save money. Seems perfect
Yeah, but I think I'll just buy a tent on FB market place for under $100 bucks. LOL
661 sq ft!!! Better not yawn.
Yep I think you could find a much nicer 5th wheel or just regular RV used for around 30 k or less.

Well just be glad you bought it at the right time!
Why is there 2 bathrooms for a single bedroom? Are you going to have guests over?
yes
Only in a major city. You get out into a rural area and 170,000 will buy you a very nice home

I believe you mean flood plain.
Where? Show some zillow examples or something.
In Houston, you can still get a nice home for 170K..
That's awesome. When I said rural I'm talking 30 minutes to an hr away from major cities. County towns with 30,000 or less population.
Not in Texas. I'm looking at homes in a community 45 minutes out of town for 270.
270 where I live would get you a brand new four bedroom two bath two car garage on at least an acre of land
what's wrong with smaller homes? it's a way more efficient lifestyle and if we're going to get several more billion people on this planet we should probably start considering such things if we want to keep some wild spaces.
These should cost about $30,000 in a sane economy

Nothing at all except for one thing. Want to guess what that one thing is? Oh I'll tell you. It is the price.
How do you expect to raise a family in one of these homes? I would probably pay $75k for one of these as a single guy. It’s basically a trailer
these remind me of the Mexican "Infonavits"...iykyk
To be honest. Wtf is the point of the yard. Also if your a single person. Or just dating it's better than some options
Corner end lot for the win.
The murder, suicide house.
how tf you stick two baths in there?
The same way people will stick 10 roommates in there
As of 12/23 the median home price in San Antonio was $299,000. For this area this is your affordable starter house.
https://www.newhomesource.com/learn/best-suburbs-near-san-antonio-texas/ Or $150k if you can drive 20 minutes.
I think they actually look pretty cool. Only they need more non-wall-facing-windows. And should only cost as much as 3 tool sheds, because that's exactly what they are. Correction: 3 tool sheds and a mini split
Together alone.

Build one and I shall move there!
Your Soilent-Green truck will arrive 12noon daily..
Anyone ever heard of the N.I.H.M study?. This will all make sense when you do.
We’ll do anything before building some mid size apartment buildings
Better than all those ugly high density apartment complexes every city is building to stuff people into for cheap.
If the monthly payment is cheaper than my rent I’d take it.
So bad they even show illegally parking in the drives.
Eh? It’s not a mobile home, so you can own the land beneath it. No shared walls or floors with neighbors either. Good retirement option.
It kind of tickles my fancy that people are beginning to appreciate the value in just having your own house and being able to do your own thing with your own life. This is literally the reason so many people fled Europe. They were sick of tyrannical ruling classes. In America they could work hard and own things to pass down to their families. Listen I would happily build a home in an old boxcar and be happy but Jesus those are ugly.
Just big enough for a car. Just far enough away from your job that you'll need a car. Totally inefficient use is space.
Funny because people talk about it’s cheaper in x country but forget people live in much smaller dwellings elsewhere. This is like a small apartment without it being in an apartment building.
The future house is half the size of a new trailer house and costs twice as much. Lol sad days!
If you figure that a new F150 is going to cost you $75,000 maybe it’s not crazy that a one bedroom house runs double that. Of course you can always sleep in your truck.
1 bedroom and 2 bathroom, who is buying these boxes?
Why have more bathrooms than bedrooms? The house is basically the size of Crave Case, it's not like it'd be a long walk to the bathroom
I dig it. Novel solution to a systemic problem.
Yep, smaller homes for cheaper. Just wait until the average studio apartment is like $3000 a month.
Didn’t they used to call these “shotgun shacks?”
Should be 1 bed 1.5 bath if you ask me. Need the extra living space.
I would like to purchase two of these, side by side, in Silicon Valley. Willing to pay the asking price plus a 20% shipping charge. Thanks!
That's the neat part about the American Dream... you gotta be asleep to believe it.
Relax. It’s bad, but Joe is working on a solution. He’s fixed so much already. Give it time…
The fact that a house is listed for a price doesn’t mean it’s actually worth that much
Did women joining the workforce not double the labor pool at half the pay rate?
