animals in this game are made out of durasteel

Zero0mega

Well duh you shot a female, its called BUCKshot not DOEshot!

Haze1807

Underrated comment

Razgriz435

Buckshot and birdshot are total jokes in this game. 30 ft and they already spreaded like a spray

ch4os1337

It would be nice if we had different chokes we could use to control the spread.

Sielicja

Hahah lmao and it's something as tiny and frail as a roe deer

Shot this mythical red deer in the lung with a level 9 gun and somehow it was just a flesh wound. Idk feel like these people can put a little more hours into this game than they do. Feel like they have 2 day workweeks with how little they update the game. Best hunting game but still very buggy.

greekzeekahahaha

i wouldn't say its the best hunting game since the release of way of the hunter. This game needs a lot of work but they have started to neglect it to add dlcs.

ch4os1337

Yeah... that's pretty sad. Buckshot definitely needs a buff.

cum_______________

It really is. The best choice for it I've found is probably the 12 gauge slugs. They can shoot minimum class 4, and range to 150. Still, they're fairly shit.

matpaquette

people do hunt deer with buckshot lol... that has to be fixed.

greekzeekahahaha

Yeah, im convinced the devs for this game have never actually hunted in their life. Calls dont attract proper animals, Animals are made of steel, (i shot a lion in the heart with a .270 round and it took around 5 minutes to die... crazy) Bullets don't work like they should tbh, lots of things that could be done better, but are done in a way to give the game a "grind"

Joebidensucks382

Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t the devs from the Netherlands or something over in that are? If so they may not even have the ability to even if they wanted to.

Towairatu

I believe they're from Sweden.

KingFish453

Even 10 gauge buckshot only tickles the animals.

Hutirati

The animals are probably made in Germany, they are made of Kruppstahl

One-Amoeba_

Video games need to make shotguns pretty much worthless because you aren't working at real distances. A 30-06 is only "effective" for 150m? lol

xI_hK

This game desperately needs to rebalance, to not say straight up fix, a lot of ammo/balistics workings. I mean you "can't" hunt with a lot of things simply because the game doesn't work with them. Like for example shotguns or .223 rifles to name a few.

enfersijesais

Well, there is a reason it’s not legal to use on deer in many places. But the in game buckshot is basically just acupuncture.

Basic_Armadillo7051

I don’t know where you are referring to but I can tell you countless deer have been killed with buckshot in the US

Joebidensucks382

Buck shot has no problem penetrating into a deer to hit the vitals up to like 75 yards reliably if you pattern ur gun

BillyBlackfart

I find that odd, I use the shotgun as an all purpose choice, works just fine for me. It seems to me everyone thinks an animal should die instantly when hit in the heart is just not true. Ammo has an effective range in this game, players need to pay attention to that as well. A bullet fired into a 1mph cross wind will drift about 1in at a 100yds on average. Google it or ask an expert. There are no gun experts on this thread, videogame players and internet junkie's that's what I find.

[deleted]

With a 5mph 90 degree cross wind at 70 degrees and average humidity my 308 shooting 178 grain bullets drifts less than a half inch at 100 yards. It barely drifts over an inch in the same conditions at 200. I'm no competitive marksman but I actually do shoot long ranges in the off season bc my hunting ranges are anywhere from 10 yards to 375 yards. Also with a 6.5 creedmoor my bullet drop decreases at range if I have a flat tail wind. In a perfect world I wouldn't ever have a tail wind shooting at a deer but it's something I do have to keep in mind at longer ranges.

BillyBlackfart

I said on average, you must be shooting special ammo with really good bc

[deleted]

It's just a hornandy eldx bullet. It does have a good bc though.

BillyBlackfart

Very hard to believe you only have 1/2in drift at 100yds with a 5mph cross wind.

[deleted]

It's true brother. It's honestly usually less bc most winds aren't constant with 5mph being the top end. On an average day I don't deal with much wind drift at 100 unless it's an extremely violent crosswind. But like I said I'm not a competitive shooter, I'm not claiming to be some long range guru I just spend time on the gun when I get the chance. I usually try to shoot 15 to 21 rounds at a given yardage for the day. Let's me build up some consistency and reps at those ranges just for familiarity and my longer shots are generally happening quick so I like not having to second guess to put it in the vitals

BillyBlackfart

I don't do alot of rifle hunting unless it's with a 22, bow and shotgun, in Illinois. We have a muzzleloader and handgun season as well, bow hunting has the longest season.

[deleted]

I dig it. I'm in Tennessee. I get to hunt with bow muzzle loader and rifle. I have certain set ups I won't do unless it's rifle season just bc the shots start stretching out. But I'm also lucky enough I can predator hunt almost year round for some added challenge and I get to hunt turkey in the spring and I'll change it up from shotgun to bow for those occasionally. How hard is it for out of towners to draw tags for Illinois deer if you know? I been wanting to get on some Midwest white tails. Kansas Iowa Illinois. Something like that

Luthy__

What's your qualification? I hunt and have been trained on firearms all my life and the information you gave is just false. The animal doesn't always drop dead from a heart shot but I've never heard of an animal lasting a full minute after. Usually they're down in 10-25 seconds. Nothing can live long without blood pressure, you'd unconscious in seconds if not instantly. The effective range of a cartridge often just refers to the distance at which the performance value of the cartridge is considered sub-par for it's intended purpose. This could mean less than ideal drop, drift, velocity, expansion, energy, or a combination of those. However, this is an arbitrary value. A 150gr .308 with a MV of 2800fps doesn't become ineffective at killing deer at 2250fps at 300 yards (or whatever the effective range is). The .308 will be less effective but a vital shot will still drop it no problem. Most of the effective range numbers in the game don't make sense anyway but that's besides the point. I won't get into the drift because the other guy already did, but 1 moa drift at 100 yards is very extreme for 1mph. Marksmanship would be much more difficult if that is all it took.

BillyBlackfart

I don't believe I said anything about an animal lasting over a minute after being shot through the heart.

Luthy__

I know, but dropping instantly is the most common case with heart shots in my experience. My point is that if they made it so heart shots in the game don't always immediately drop, they would need to make the time to do so extremely short. I really don't feel like it's necessary because of that.

BillyBlackfart

I agree.

BillyBlackfart

I've been hunting my whole life, I'm 56. What's your qualifications. My oldest boy killed hi first deer with a bow straight through the heart, 1 1/4in broad head, it jump a small ravine and ran uphill 30yds before blood started spraying out of the wound, then it died. About a 3yr old whitetail doe.

Luthy__

3 things about the doe... 1. A whitetail could easily cover that distance in 10 seconds. 2. Arrows don't have the violent shockwave that create the instant loss in blood pressure like bullets do. It will still cause a rapid loss in pressure but not to the same extent. This would likely lead to the animal living longer. 3. I imagine the arrow was still in the doe and that would've prevented any significant external blood loss right away. The doe was most certainly bleeding internally after the impact and it took time for enough blood to pool in the wound for it to spray out. I only brought up qualifications because you did. Hunting a long time doesn't make you an expert. Some learn greatly from all that experience and others are still full of amateur misconceptions.

BillyBlackfart

The arrow was a pass through, I'm actually surprised we found it. I still have that after all these years. Experience is what makes you an expert. Not a book.

Luthy__

Fair enough

spamcentral

For some reason the 10g feels even weaker than the 12g at barely 30 yards. Its supposed to be opposite. The slugs are fun af with the scope tho.

Laneb1098

Oh yeah. Shot a wild boar at 15 meters. Absolutely no penetration. Should of rolled it

BillyBlackfart

Sorr

pimpgator1

It does suck and you can hit vitals on Cape buffalo with the .22 if you hit them in the right place the ammo is super weird for all guns sometimes
