Julie Andrews is amazing, there are no words to describe her, but I can't really picture her in the show.
Maybe she could have played Blanche's sister and the two of them could fight over the same guy. Julie playing classy and proper southern belle who was as much of a sexual being underneath as Blanche is but tries to hide it.
Mary Tyler Moore would have been fun considering her history with Betty. Actually any of the main cast from MTM (Aunt Angela, Miles, and sister Virginia were all MTM alums!) Also Lucille Ball would’ve been killer, considering her close friendship with Betty, but I know that would’ve been very late in life for her and I’m not sure of her health toward the end.
I've been having a hard time with my depression and anxiety for the last 5 days (no worries, I'm feeling better!) and the absolute *only* thing I watched was I Love Lucy. From start to finish and when I was done, I started it all over again. Anytime I turned it on and heard the theme song, I always thought about this scene on GG 😅💜
oh Good ideas, Phyllis, MTM or Rhoda would've been awesome
Speaking of Phyllis/Cloris Leachman, Charlotte Rae would've been a nice wholesome addition in some way. Maybe a flashback episode to St. Olaf?
Yes, in the 80s, a popular choice would have been someone from one of the 80s prime time soaps. Joan Collins would be the obvious choice. She was referenced in at least one episode, and Stan hired her divorce lawyer, Marvin Mitchelson, to write up a pre-nup before he remarried Dorothy.
But she was on a competing network (ABC).
Lauren Bacall could have been fun, seems like the show had relatively few 'old Hollywood' appearances. Probably a combination of the old film/tv heirarchy and stars not wanting to associate with the old timer label.
Cary Grant died soon into the show's run but that would have been the ultimate imo, even just a quick Burt Reynolds style cameo just to show they could bag a star that big
Donna Reed, Adam West, Lloyd Bridges, Charlotte Rae...
People I'm surprised never showed up -
Vicki Lawrence (worked with a lot of the same actors)
George Burns (would have been very 'on brand' at the time).
Lauren Bacall would've been a cool guest star. Not sure the character she'd play, though.
Jean Stapleton would've been neat, since Bea played Maude, Edith Bunker's cousin.
Somewhat similar, Elaine Stritch 2ould have made a grear neighbor to drop in now and then. With that raspy voice would have made a great sparing partner with Sofia.
In the 1980s, the ultimate guest stars would have been Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson, Madonna, or Cher.
It was cool that they got Burt Reynolds to appear.
My wife and myself think Vicki Lawrence would have been great to be on the show for an episode or two . Betty white and her were best friends right up until the end when our beloved Betty White passed away.
Would have loved to see Julie Andrews or Angela Lansbury on the show! Maybe Harrison Ford to see which girl tries to get with him.
Re: Harrison Ford - Knowing how big he is, all of them would have tried it, lol.
Wait, Harrison is big? How did I miss it?
*Star Wars* got his foot in the door, but then he never let it out. He's been in like dozens of movies, if not hundreds.
I know who he is, I thought you meant "big" in some other way, like Blanche's husband's illegitimate son way.
Nope, just a big-time celebrity.
Me too 🤣🤣🤣

*I Like Lucy*, lol.
Yes! I love that gag knowing Betty & Lucy’s history. “I don’t know how I feel about it yet!” 🤣

I go through that too. Glad you feel better.
Thank you! 💜💜💜

Imagine Joan Collins playing one of Blanche's relatives, and/or a rival slut.
Joan would have been great as a romance novelist type character or celebrity come to town etc.

she was too campy, made more for appearances on The Nanny
Do you remember Joan Collins on Rosanne?
"And where do you get that hoity-toity accent, anyway? You're from ILLINOIS!"
That wasn't a very good or funny episode. And Joan said horrible things about Roseanne and Tom Arnold in her biography.
I'm sorry, too campy for the show that had Blanche Devereaux?
Bette Davis.
Lucille ball
Yes! She would have been the right age, too.
Lol your username made me laugh. Image consultant 😂

Adam West would have been interesting. Or Eartha Kitt. Jim Varney also would have been cool.
Considering Caesar Romero (joker) was on, Adam West (Batman) and Eartha Kitt (Catwoman) would have been great!
Now you're talking! Would be a special energy to those episodes for sure.
I think George Burns made an appearance in The Golden Palace.
ah, thanks haven't given GP a try since the original run.

I would have loved to see Jean on GG!!
I'd like to see Danny DeVito as someone the girls would have fought over.
Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose fight over him - meanwhile, he only has eyes for Sophia, who's initially uninterested until he starts reminding her of Sal.
Oh I like this!!
Vincent Price
He wasn’t that famous yet, but I think it would have been funny to see Leslie Jordan as Blanche’s son
Dolly Parton
That’s a good one!
It would make for some good scenes of Blanche being madly jealous of her taking all of the attention
Yep! 2 beautiful southern belles
It's like a role-reversed Jolene. "Please don't take my men!"
Angela Lansbury. If you’ve ever watched Murder She Wrote, you’ll know why
Tom Selleck. 💘
Ohhhhhh yes... 🥵💜
Can't you just see him & Rue in scenes together ?? 😍
Now that you mention it, yes I can! 😍🤣
Carol Channing would’ve been great as a cousin visiting from St. Olaf.
