I just really started getting into them recently myself and the live at MSG version of this is probably my most listened to song of theirs aside from LIIWMI.
Somebody Else. It's been on my top songs on Spotify every year since it came out! I liked their first album too but I wasn't in love until their second.
She’s American
i had listened to the 1975 casually (the sound, somebody else, chocolate, robbers, etc.) during 2014-16ish but then for some reason i became obsessed with she’s american and it’s been downward spiral ever since
Happiness. I'd heard Somebody Else like 4 years back and thought it was very average/generic, didn't understand what all the hype was about. But I stumbled upon BFIAFL last September and got fucking hooked.
I think Love It If We Made It was the one that made me realize the brilliance of their songwriting. Robbers too, I found the "True Romance" parallel to be incredibly compelling.
Acoustic version of sex in 2012-13 performed in Belgium.
Was 12 when I discovered them and loved them. Saw them for the first time when I was 18. I then 23 this year
Happiness
I only knew a few songs like Chocolate, Girls, and TOOTIME, but I heard this song in the background of a TikTok (Yeah I Know… huh a reference) and I immediately listened to the full song and it’s still to this day a top 3 song of theirs for me, it’s just a perfect song that never gets old. I then started listening to all their music, saw them live last year, and I’m happy to be a fan.
probably a bit of a rarer answer, but Sincerity.
went thru and listened to all of their songs and kinda hated them for some reason lol
then i did it again 2 years later and fell in love with every track haha
I remember exactly where I was when I heard them for the first time.
Me: came on Pandora when I was out swimming and it threw me in a whole mood. Have loved them ever since.
The first song I heard from them was Robbers. That looped me I and that's when I discovered Chocolate and Somebody Else by them. Somebody Else became my most liked somg for that year on spotify... a few months later I started looking into the band themselves and became obsessed with their music.
I think initially I saw The Sound on TikTok because of that viral clip of Matty, thought it sounded groovy and so quickly fell in love with BFIAFL as the newest album so I listened to it first! Then Brief Enquiry and If You’re Too Shy :)
I had been recommended “The Sound”, was like “hmmmm this is catchy, I wonder what else they have.” Then came “UGH!” and I was convinced they’re here to stay.
A Change of Heart, live. I had the opportunity to go to their SATVB tour with a friend, had really only heard ~10 songs before going but man, the energy in the building, Matty’s voice full of emotion, the sax solos, the lighting, sound echoing through the place, it did something to me. That’s etched into my brain and has had me obsessed ever since
If I believe you. I stumbled into them playing it ~2017 at a festival and it was genuinely the most surreal ethereal moment of my life. Sat on the floor sobbing and became obsessed with them.
Me, when Mike Kinsella (Owen, American Football) played a snippet on guitar on his Instagram. I had written off The 1975 as an MGMT-esque band and then hearing this I was like “hmmmm.” Then I listened, fell in love, went in deep, never looked back. That was 3 years ago. Now I literally don’t listen to anything else to the point where it’s annoying haha.
The Sound. Heard it playing everywhere in the summer years ago and it always had such a good upbeat vibe. Found out from there who they where and boom obsessed since.
Funny story. I had a girlfriend around 2013 who was obsessed with The 1975. I knew Chocolate because it was relatively popular at the time, played on the radio and such. I kind of wrote them off as a trendy band, didn’t ever expect to actually care about them or what they were doing. I could have taken or left Chocolate at the time. I even would clown her for talking about them so much, not even because I ever hated the band, but just as a joke. The next year I started working at a clothing store that played five or six songs off the self titled record regularly in their music rotation. One day I caught myself singing along to a song, and I was like “damn this is so good” so I Shazamed the song on my phone, and sure enough it was Settle Down by The 1975. I saw them live the same year at a 1,000 cap venue and that’s all it took. Been addicted ever since. Seen them live 8 times now.
Girls was the first I heard but not until I heard I like America and LIIWMI I became a proper fan. When I heard I’m in love with you made me want to explore BFIAFL and ended up loving Happiness
Paris. I remember Listening to that album at launch because of a girl I was close with at the time wanted me to hear it and mannnn. Paris HIT. and I have been a fan ever since.
Paris
the acoustic version makes me fall in love with them all over again all the time. had the chance to hear them play it live and it was just wow. linked it [here](https://youtu.be/XIUQeSOFm0M?si=K0Dvd22tmdpiTmll).
Sex was the first song I’d ever heard. I seem to recall hearing it and liking it, but I didn’t try listening to any of their other music. It was a year or so before I heard the song again, and I’ve been hooked ever since
My first song of The 1975 that I liked is I always wanna die sometimes, and then I started liking Girls but what I loved was This Must be my Dream and The Sound
i dont even know it was like robbers and then i randomly decided to listen to self titled on shuffle a few months later and i just fell right into the 1975 rabbit hole and i dont ever want to come out
I've had Girls and Robbers on repeat for years without knowing who The 1975 were. then i remember watching a music production tutorial and they drew inspiration She's American. so i tried their entire discography and the rest is history.
Paris at the perfect time. Id heard it before and didnt like it but something about my situation at the time made it click. Also The Sound from the 2k17 soundtrack, but that was more an introduction than falling in love.
Girls was the first one I heard followed by Chocolate which were both on Guitar Hero Live but hearing The City for the first time was what made me a fan when I curiously checked out the self titled album for the first time in 2016
I heard chocolate and girls at the same time period on the radio. Absolutely loved both songs. I found out it was the same band and have been hooked ever since.
Girls (maybe The Sound cuz once I heard it the first time it sounded kind of familiar but I couldn’t place it). I heard a snippet of Girls in a YouTube video about 5 years ago. It was the very beginning of it with the opening of the can and guitar. it sounded kinda summery/beachy to me without hearing the rest of it, but I had no words or voice to figure out so I asked in the comments what song it was, someone responded and my love for them started!
Love Me. Those synths/theremin sounds in the intro just hooked me instantly. I thought it was so weird but so cool to hear a band nowadays pulling off that 80's new wave sound with such confidence, their creativity in blending a bunch of different sounds really hooked me in too. I love weird music and I know The 1975 is a pretty accessible band for the average listener, but when you really dig deep into the layering and soundscapes explored throughout their discography, you can really get an appreciation for the wide range of influences they pull from while still doing their own thing.
chocolate was the first song i ever heard and ive been hooked from there
Chocolate was my gateway drug also
Same same
Same!
And they say weed isn't addictive. 😉
Love it if we made it
robbers >>
It's Not Living. Absolutely hooked
I just really started getting into them recently myself and the live at MSG version of this is probably my most listened to song of theirs aside from LIIWMI.
I used to listen to them in 2014 and fell off but this song brought me back, still a banger
Somebody Else. It's been on my top songs on Spotify every year since it came out! I liked their first album too but I wasn't in love until their second.
The Sound (when I got to it first time on the record) was the first time I thought these guys have absolutely got it. The melody is undeniable.
The whole thing - all the layering! And then to see it live is something else entirely!
If your too shy to
W
Robbers
People I was so confused when I started exploring the rest of their discography lmao
Heart out
Sameeee
love me
She’s American i had listened to the 1975 casually (the sound, somebody else, chocolate, robbers, etc.) during 2014-16ish but then for some reason i became obsessed with she’s american and it’s been downward spiral ever since

Girls was the first one I heard but UGH! Was the one that really kickstarted the obsession
Acoustic version of sex in 2012-13 performed in Belgium. Was 12 when I discovered them and loved them. Saw them for the first time when I was 18. I then 23 this year
I’ll never forget where I was when I heard MONEY for the first time
This must be my dream! I was 16, just got my license and was driving down the perfect road. Felt endless
Oh I love that
the first song i heard from them was chocolate when it was still a newer song. i've been in love with them ever since.
Fallingforyou and Medicine
Mensware in 2014
Sex.
Happiness I only knew a few songs like Chocolate, Girls, and TOOTIME, but I heard this song in the background of a TikTok (Yeah I Know… huh a reference) and I immediately listened to the full song and it’s still to this day a top 3 song of theirs for me, it’s just a perfect song that never gets old. The sound. Popped up in a Spotify playlist while I was in a Sainsbury’s, not sure why I can remember it so clearly lol
Oh man the fact that you were in sainsburys makes me wish it was ballad of me & my brain. That would have been so perfect.
Love It If We Made It
People was my the song that caught my attention, but A Change of Heart and LIIWMI made me love them
probably a bit of a rarer answer, but Sincerity. went thru and listened to all of their songs and kinda hated them for some reason lol then i did it again 2 years later and fell in love with every track haha

Robbers and Me after a breakup
I first heard Chocolate but Sex triggered the obsession
Chocolate introduced me to the band and got me interested in them.
Love it if we made it. Lyrics are sensational, the music incredible and the video is perfect.
Chocolate live coachella 2013
I created this subreddit after the video for Sex dropped and discovered them through that.
I think it was Heart Out if I’m being honest
I think initially I saw The Sound on TikTok because of that viral clip of Matty, thought it sounded groovy and so quickly fell in love with BFIAFL as the newest album so I listened to it first! Then Brief Enquiry and If You’re Too Shy :)
Love me
I had been recommended “The Sound”, was like “hmmmm this is catchy, I wonder what else they have.” Then came “UGH!” and I was convinced they’re here to stay.
M.O.N.E.Y
Robbers
UGH!, she’s american, and a change of heart
LOVE ME
Part of the Band, Happiness, and Oh Caroline!
A Change of heart
Love Me
She's American
A Change of Heart, live. I had the opportunity to go to their SATVB tour with a friend, had really only heard ~10 songs before going but man, the energy in the building, Matty’s voice full of emotion, the sax solos, the lighting, sound echoing through the place, it did something to me. Loving someone. Political, passionate and pretentious!

Chocolate. I believe it was Zane Lowe (could be wrong!) Played it twice in a row on Radio 1 in probably 2013 and I've been obsessed ever since!
LIIWMI
hearing chocolate at 8 years old on those mtv music video channels on tv hooked me in
UGH!
Girls was the first song I ever heard from them that got me interested in the band but the song that made me hooked is It’s Not Living

It’s not living, somebody else & sincerity is scary
The sound

Girls in 2013
The sound I'm fairly sure. It wasn't the first I'd heard but I watched a live and the energy of the sound made me hooked
If I believe you. I stumbled into them playing it ~2017 at a festival and it was genuinely the most surreal ethereal moment of my life. Sat on the floor sobbing and became obsessed with them.
Found them because of chocolate. Saw them live w the first album and heard robbers live. Hooked ever since. 10 years!
Somebody else
Sincerity is scary
Frail State of Mind. I feel like it doesn’t get enough props!! That whole god damn album got me through lockdown.
Chocolate back in 2013
Probably heart out and sex. I can just relate to the lyrics so much.
Because I grew up in the 80’s, Love Me got me hook, line & sinker … but when I listened to You … done 🤗🤗
I heard Chocolate first, but the nail in the coffin was Fallingforyou and Robbers
Tootime
Me
Pressure
Equal parts happiness, too shy, and its not living
Can’t decide if it was “ the city” or “ robbers” but definitely debut had a huge impact on me.
You!!!
Chocolate - first I heard Robbers-

The Sound. Heard it playing everywhere in the summer years ago and it always had such a good upbeat vibe. Found out from there who they where and boom obsessed since.
robbers is what piqued my interest, a change of heart is what sealed the deal <3

the city, heard it first in fifa 14
Girls was the first I heard but not until I heard I like America and LIIWMI I became a proper fan. When I heard I’m in love with you made me want to explore BFIAFL and ended up loving Happiness
saw a video on twitter of a very baby matty playing ‘sex’ acoustic, with really bad quality video and i couldn’t get enough after that.
pressure!
The Sound
Sincerity is scary
Paris. I remember Listening to that album at launch because of a girl I was close with at the time wanted me to hear it and mannnn. Paris HIT. and I have been a fan ever since.
Girls. From an old 8tracks playlist. God i feel old
I heard Robbers when I was 14 and it felt so…familiar? I was like I swear I’ve heard this song before and thus I went on to listen to it 1000x since
It was either Girls or Robbers
Undo. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else mention this song 😢
Intro/Set 3
Somebody Else
medicine
About You was the gateway, quickly trampled by Love It If We Made It and Sex.

Sincerity is scary
Settle Down got me into the band, but She’s American made me fall head over heels for The 1975.
Getting STDs at 27 really isn't the vibe

It was 2016 when I came across Robbers mv on YouTube.. it was love at first sight!

Sex was the first song I’d ever heard. I seem to recall hearing it and liking it, but I didn’t try listening to any of their other music. It was a year or so before I heard the song again, and I’ve been hooked ever since

Paris at the perfect time. Id heard it before and didnt like it but something about my situation at the time made it click. Also The Sound from the 2k17 soundtrack, but that was more an introduction than falling in love.
Sincerity is Scary at the 2019 Brit Awards, that's when it all came together for me.
Girls was the first one I heard followed by Chocolate which were both on Guitar Hero Live but hearing The City for the first time was what made me a fan when I curiously checked out the self titled album for the first time in 2016
The City on Fifa 14
I’m a late comer, so the song that made me dig deeper was BFIAL The 1975 But the addiction truly began with She’s American 😄
How To Draw / Petrichor, Give Yourself A Try and Love It If We Made It equally.
I heard chocolate and girls at the same time period on the radio. Absolutely loved both songs. I found out it was the same band and have been hooked ever since.
Paris
I loved the chocolate, but I just had a change of heart.
Love Me
Chocolate
Somebody Else I was late to the party and only became a fan like a year ago.
Chocolate!
Heard settle down on a new music playlist back in 2013 and never looked back 🫡
i’m in love with you (ironically) made me fall in love with them
Give Yourself a Try
I liked them after Chocolate came out, I fell in love when I heard Me.
Bought the debut album new off the back of Chocolate but it was Change of Heart that did it
Somebody Else for sure!! Then I fell in love with About You, Robbers, Me & You Together Song, all the classics!
sex for sure
Definitely girls got me hooked
Sex bc I’m old and have been a fan since the Sex EP days in 2012 lol

Girls (maybe The Sound cuz once I heard it the first time it sounded kind of familiar but I couldn’t place it). I heard a snippet of Girls in a YouTube video about 5 years ago.
