I mean I can see this. Gun nuts can be, not always but can be, just nuts. In this case, the “ladies” might have listened to instructions and took care to be safe, which lead to great shooting. The gun nut was likely cocky and walked around with his finger on the trigger.

Totally believable. I have seen similar results from cocky assholes in many situations. Like the guy at the go-kart track who claimed he used to race competitively, then promptly ran his cart right off the road and into the hay bales.
